00:00Let's bring in Wang Huyao, founder of the think tank, the Center for China and Globalization.
00:06Doctor, thank you so much for your time. What's your sense of Premier Li's speech?
00:12Well, I think this is a great speech actually just made by Premier Li Chang a while ago,
00:17and he actually really took this great opportunity to reiterate China's strong stand for peace,
00:27prosperity, unity, and, of course, development.
00:32And so I think that China is a great peace promoter, and China actually can promote peace and talks,
00:40particularly, you know, Ukraine and also Middle East, and China can play an enormous role in keeping the peace and also maintain the peace.
00:50So, of course, he warned that unilateralism is not going to go anywhere, and then the world is at the crossroads,
00:56and we have to really maintain this multinationalism in our multi-polar world.
01:03So I think giving this big assembly gathering here, you know, in New York, actually,
01:09that Chinese Premier has been speaking about China's role, Chinese determination to maintain its global development,
01:18and also he emphasized China's contribution to the prosperity and stability,
01:23and China's economy is really going to keep going as well. So that's what he basically said.
01:29Yeah, it was interesting how he was, you know, saying that we need to stick to the rules.
01:35We have a rules-based world, and we need to work together. We need to have dialogue.
01:39We shouldn't be polarizing, either in terms of trade and our economies, or indeed around the issues of conflict.
01:47I'm pointing back, of course, to 80 years ago. We ended World War II with a promise, really,
01:53that we would never go into that situation again.
01:56What role do you see for China in an institution such as the UN Security Council?
02:02It's so important. You know, the UN, it's still, it's the backbone of the current global order, basically.
02:11And, of course, it needs to be improved, enhanced, and enlarged, supporting the more rights for the developing countries
02:20and more saying for global south countries in the UN system.
02:24And, of course, also that the UN has an enormous role, an important role to maintain peace.
02:30And also, I remember, particularly Premier Li mentioned about China is the second largest peace building,
02:38peace budget contributor to the UN, and the largest peace-sending country of the P5 member countries.
02:45So that shows how China is really supportive of the peacekeeping mission of the UN,
02:51and also China is the second largest donor to the United Nations as a whole.
02:55So it just shows that China is very, very strongly supporting the UN, multilateralism,
03:01and wants to see this system work.
03:03We talk about rule-based international order.
03:06We really talk about UN rule-based international order, not other G7 or other rules.
03:11So I think it's important that we maintain this global platform and governance that's really good,
03:18not only for developing countries, but for the whole world.
03:20Thank you so much for your views.
03:22Really appreciate it.
03:23That is Dr. Wang Huyao, founder of the think tank, the Center for China and Globalization.
