CGTN Europe spoke to Wang Huiyao, Founder & President, Center for China & Globalization.
Transcript
00:00Let's talk now to Wang Huyao, who's the president of the Center for China and Globalization.
00:06Welcome. Good to see you. Thanks for joining us.
00:08Leaders of SCO member countries have issued the Tianjin Declaration outlining the future direction and objectives.
00:16What should we make of what's been set out so far?
00:21Well, I think this is a very significant summit.
00:24Basically, the largest ever of SCO for more than 25 years history, probably.
00:31And also, we have the first time we have the Indian Prime Minister Moody attending SCO summit.
00:37Also, we have many newly added partner countries and international organizations to join that.
00:43But I think the significance is more than just security.
00:47But also, this time, it's furthered on the global cooperation, on the development, on the economic also benefit, but also on a lot of business initiative.
01:00So, you know, particularly in this time of turbulence and, you know, also a lot of uncertainty, SCO has provided very stabilizing factors.
01:11Particularly, I'm impressed with this Chinese global governance initiative that proposed that SCO summit, which actually said we need to, you know, still stick to the UN principles,
01:23but also we need to really be solvent and respect countries, trust building, and, of course, share the, you know, development together.
01:32So that's really a very key message that proposed to the member countries.
01:38But also, further, I think China is also taking actions, you know, like real deeds for that.
01:43For example, it's proposed to help SCO countries for energy and green power, but also digital transformation and science, technology, education, and vocational training.
01:56So there's not a practical economic benefit associated with SCO members.
02:01So I think this is really great to generate a new model of development in this multipolar world.
02:07How the countries should work together, despite their different system, different culture, different heritage, but inclusive, work together.
02:16And also for further promoting economic cooperation in this context of protectionism, trade wars, and sanctions.
02:25So I think this is actually breaking the new ground for global governance in terms of collective efforts.
02:32Let's talk about, let's talk, sorry to interrupt you, let's talk about old ground.
02:36I mean, realistically, what sway does the group have over issues like bringing peace to Gaza, Iran's nuclear program, or even rebuilding Afghanistan?
02:45Well, there's a lot of things that can be done.
02:49I think that, for example, on the Ukraine-Russian conflict, you know, we have U.S. President Donald Trump said they don't want to put a U.S. troop there.
02:59They need European troops and non-European troops.
03:02So I think we can go back to U.S. Security Council and, you know, have a new revolution passed, agreed by Russia, U.S., and everybody, security member countries.
03:15Let's send a U.N. peacekeeping force.
03:17You know, China is the largest peace-sending force from P5 members.
03:22So we have India and other, you know, SO countries, and even BRICS countries, Brazil, South Africa, and many more.
03:29So I think SO and BRICS countries does provide more support for peacemaking.
03:36You know, the platform of the SO is peacemaking itself.
03:39You know, we had at the same time Indian Prime Minister and Pakistan Prime Minister at the same table.
03:45And we have Armenia and Azerbaijan heads of state at the same table.
03:49So China and India used to be at odds.
03:52Now they are sitting at the same table.
03:54So I think SO can provide a good example of how we can really reconcile the differences and let's forward for peacemaking.
04:03Iran and Saudi, you know, China, you know, made the deal of that peace deal.
04:07But continuously, we can do more for Russia, Ukraine, for Middle East, and for other countries.
04:13So I think SO is a new added faucet for peacemaking in this world.
04:20Wang Huyao, thank you very much indeed for talking to us, Wang Huyao, the president of the Center for China and Globalization.
