00:00I read a book called Days of Rage over and over again,
00:04which was about the revolutionaries of the late 60s,
00:07which I think Paul really wanted to base this on,
00:10and that was The Weathermen,
00:11which was, you know, a mixed-race group of people
00:14that at the time were fighting for civil rights,
00:17you know, the war in Vietnam,
00:20the political climate at the time was tumultuous.
00:23And so I think he wanted to do a flash-forward
00:25to a modern-day retelling of that,
00:28but more so what happens to those revolutionaries
00:31when they go too far, you know,
00:33when they push the boundaries,
00:36where they start to dissolve amongst themselves
00:39and then have to disappear into society again.
00:42And here's this ex-revolutionary, my character,
00:45that now has a daughter that he needs to raise,
00:47and he doesn't know how to relate to his daughter.
00:49They're completely disconnected.
00:51She's on her phone all the time.
00:52He's trying to detach from society.
00:55And, you know, the aftermath of that
00:58and what really extremism sort of represents
01:01on both sides, you know, both sides of the spectrum.
01:04It's a political movie that doesn't choose,
01:07doesn't have an agenda, which is what I love.
01:10You know, it sort of,
01:12it analyzes extremism on both ends
01:15and how we're living in a day and age
01:17where there's just so much miscommunication.
01:19So I love the concept,
01:22and I loved him bringing that sort of idea
01:25of the late 60s revolutionaries
01:27to a modern context.
01:31And what I'm doing here
01:32is I'm creating a closed circuit.
01:36Ooh.
01:38Very important to keep your cap shunted like this
01:41so you don't accidentally detonate your charge.
01:46Don't stop.
01:48No one should have created a show.
01:50This is an announcement on a revolution.
01:52Very simple.
01:53It's just holding a mirror up
01:55to where we are as a society, you know.
01:57I think that Paul has said it very well so many times.
02:02You know, when you take your own political beliefs,
02:05and I, you know,
02:06maybe some people know where we stand politically,
02:08and try to impose that onto an audience
02:11and impose your belief system,
02:15you're going to lose them.
02:17It's like taking medicine.
02:18This is a reflection of where we're at,
02:20and it's just,
02:21it's amazing that this movie's coming out right now, today,
02:25because this is something that he's been thinking about
02:27for 10 years,
02:28and I couldn't imagine being a part of a movie
02:30that is sort of representative of the heartbeat
02:34of where America and the rest of the world
02:36sort of feels the unease about the world we live in.
02:41So it's just fantastic that it's coming out right now.
