Tony Hawk's 1999 X-Games board fetches $1.15M at auction

Tony Hawk's skateboard from his landmark 1999 '900' trick sells for about $1.15 million, Julien's Auctions said on Sept. 24, 2025, setting a record for a piece of skateboarding memorabilia and more than doubling its pre-sale estimate. Julien's said the auction at the Loews Hollywood Hotel and online on Sept. 23, set multiple benchmarks for items tied to the 57-year-old American who became the first skater to land the two-and-a-half-revolution aerial during the 1999 X Games in San Francisco.

00:00800, are we there?
00:02We got a bid at 800,000!
00:07And we have a bid at 900,000.
00:15Tony, it would be great if I could get you to come up here and close this out.
00:19If we sell it at 900,000.
00:25Now before we bring that hammer down,
00:27Tony, we just got to make sure that there's no more bids.
00:30One million dollars going twice.
00:34His gavel's high in the air. Look at that.
00:36It's like a vert gavel asking for a million dollars.
00:41We're going to go ahead and bring it down at a million bid now.
00:45Forever hold your peace. Tony, it's on you, sir.
00:47Whenever you're ready.
00:49Hey, I appreciate this so much.
00:52Julian's Auctions.
00:54Jason Vasquez is the reason that board got back to me from the X Games.
00:57So I want to give a shout out to him.
00:58He's a retired Air Force veteran.
01:00And this is incredible.
01:02Thank you all.
01:04900,000.
01:07Sold at $900,000!
01:11I've never been really sentimental about my gear.
01:18And I basically threw away all my trophies through the years.
01:21And so to have this remain was actually a surprise.
01:26But yeah, I mean, it represents that era of skating to me.
01:31Obviously that event, 99X Games.
01:33So I'm hugely proud of it.
01:35But I feel like it was time to let it go.
01:38So I had to scramble and set this board up quickly before the event.
01:43Which is like, I remember it all so vividly.
01:45So I'm scrambling to get the trucks and wheels back on.
01:48And then I use this board for the best trick.
01:51And I didn't even plan to do a 900 that night.
01:54Like my plan was to do a very old 720, which is at the time my best trick.
02:00And I made that trick early on in the event.
02:03So it was more like, what do I do now?
02:05I have 10 minutes left of this event.
02:07And I thought, well, I'll try a trick that I've never actually made.
02:11I put the grip tape on the wrong way.
02:13So this gap right here was supposed to be here originally.
02:16So you can see that I like scrambled to fill in the gap.
02:20So sloppy.
02:21But yeah, and also the sponsors at the time, Audio Footwear, Fury Trucks.
02:26Both companies are gone now.
02:27And then my sort of non-endemic sponsors, Club Med, 55 DSL, Diesel Clothing, Hot Wheels.
02:34This is the only sponsor that I still have out of all of this, 26 years later, is Hot Wheels.
02:40Honestly, I hope whoever buys it, I hope it means something to them and it's not just a flex that they have more money than the next guy.
02:48You know, I hope skateboarding somehow resonated in their life and that this means something to them in that respect.
02:55And maybe that they're able to display it somewhere.
02:57I don't know.
02:58I just hope that they enjoy it.
03:10Mmmmm.
03:12Okay.
03:13Yeah!
03:14I then click the link out there.
03:15Okay.
03:16I am so glad to see you soon.
03:17Let's see you.
