Taiwan has decided to walk back its chip export controls on South Africa. Taiwan announced the restrictions on Tuesday in response to South Africa's decision to downgrade and rename Taipei's two representatives offices in the country as it moves closer to China.

00:00Taiwan has decided not to go ahead with chip export controls aimed at South Africa, at least for now.
00:07The government announced Tuesday it would start requiring the approval for exports of 47 items, including chips.
00:14That comes after South Africa downgraded and renamed Taiwan's two representative offices in the country earlier this year, as it moves closer to China.
00:22It has also been pressuring Taipei to move its office from the capital, Pretoria, to Johannesburg.
00:27Taiwan's foreign ministry says South Africa is now willing to talk, so the chip restrictions have been paused.
