00:00No opinion poll shows that Poles blame Ukraine for the drone incursion.
00:08Claims are circulating online that the Polish population mainly considers Ukraine responsible for this month's drone incursion,
00:16which Warsaw has described as intentional Russian provocation.
00:20On the night of September 9, Polish and NATO fighter jets scrambled to down as many as 20 drones which had entered Polish skies.
00:30In the two weeks since, there have been multiple reports of other European airspace violations linked to Moscow.
00:36These have triggered a wave of unfounded speculation and misinformation online,
00:41including claims that Ukraine has been staging false flag attacks.
00:46This graph has emerged, claiming to show that as many as 38% of Poles believe Ukraine is to blame for the 9th of September drone incursion,
00:55while 34% polled Russia responsible.
00:58We detected the claims circulating in several languages on Facebook, Telegram, Instagram and X, garnering millions of views.
01:06But the graph in fact comes from a report by the Polish NGO Bres Futura.
01:10Their analysts examined as many as 179,000 Polish posts and comments on social media in the aftermath of the incursion,
01:19and found that 38% of those mentions blamed Ukraine.
01:23The analysts attribute this to an organized information psychological campaign,
01:28explaining that many of the posts are repetitive in narrative and aggressive in rhetoric,
01:33typical of pro-Russian disinformation.
01:36This analysis has, however, been misrepresented as opinion polling, both in social media posts and news articles.
01:43It does not in any way indicate that the Polish population holds Ukraine responsible for the incursion,
01:49but rather that this was the most predominant narrative circulating on social media, peddled by disinformation actors.
