00:00world today we are here at the Google offices in the Philippines and we got in
00:07touch with Sir Eves Gonzalez who is the head of government affairs and public
00:12policy hi Eves how are you good good thank you for thank you for having me
00:20thank you for joining us actually you have a lot of knowledge to import on us
00:24today so I'm very very excited earlier I mentioned how AI or artificial
00:30intelligence is a subject of discussion today but before we dive into the
00:35complexity can you first define what AI is you know to put it simply we think
00:41that AI is basically when you know humans try to teach computers how to think or
00:47how to act or how to you know solve problems just like humans can right and
00:51even better one so basically you know you also hear about machine learning so
00:56when we talk about machine learning it's basically the human or the computer can
01:01learn actually from data from information and it becomes better does AI have no
01:06use in the everyday life of an ordinary citizen so the good thing with AI now
01:11it's been democratized right so I guess no unang panahon AI was primarily for
01:16computer scientists but now with all these AI tools even you know a sari-sari store
01:23vendor we had a training with a sari-sari store owner on how to improve the
01:27design of their sari-sari store or even let's say a tricycle driver
01:34na gusto niyang aralin kung paano ba maging paano ba mag-create na magandang resume
01:40diba so things like that so AI now has the opportunity to improve the lives of
01:46everyday Filipinos AI has now especially there's a lot of free tools na so dati
01:50mahal pa yan but ngayon so many free tools are available it's kind of refreshing to
01:55know that even just ordinary Filipinos like you said a sari-sari store owner and a
01:59tricycle driver they are able to use these free tools these days is AI nearing
02:08human intelligence Eve said that although AI has an advantage in certain skills like
02:14processing and understanding millions of images and data AI still lacks the
02:19ability to understand and comprehend human emotions and relationships fully the
02:25collaboration between human and AI that will always be the case diba it's not
02:30about one being better than the other but actually working together
02:33collaborating so that we can solve some of society's tough problems since AI is
02:39relatively new to most people and some of them think it is hard to use and it
02:43requires technical knowledge is this true or false definitely false so we always say
02:48that you know we in Google our goal is to democratize technology including AI so
02:52with Gemini so Gemini is our both our AI model in our large language model we're
02:58able to democratize AI so marunong ka namong mag google search ngayon pwede mo
03:02ipasok yun sa Gemini and basically Gemini will give you an AI generated answer diba
03:07and then there's a lot of AI that's actually happening behind the scenes so marunong ka mag YouTube
03:16videos marunong ka manood ng YouTube videos diba powering that behind the scenes yung mga
03:20recommendation don may AI don diba when you use Google Maps or Waze yun may AI behind the scenes
03:26that's telling you the route to take so actually AI is now at the stage that
03:30anyone can use it I don't think a lot of people realize that so much of AI is
03:35already integrated in our daily lives without us noticing so for example when you do a
03:38Google search tapos nag autocorrect diba mali yung na type mo na word pero tama pa rin yung results
03:43that's AI behind the scenes that's powering that okay so even something as simple as that is already AI
03:49wow so it's definitely very easy to use because I use it in my everyday life
03:53there are also discussions about AI being biased and unfair is that true so definitely depending on
04:15on how the AI is trained diba so one of the challenges of AI is to make sure na yung training niya
04:21um reduces removes the biases and unfairness diba kasi for example kung yung training data mo may bias
04:29then syempre kung hindi mo controlin yun lalabas at lalabas din yung bias doon so it's really incumbent upon
04:35the AI developer uh like Google to make sure na we are conscious of these known and unknown biases so it's
04:43incumbent upon us to really try to counteract those uh and of course you have to be responsible in the
04:49outputs of that not just in the training of the AI but also yung mga output na dine generate ng AI for example you put a
04:55lot of training data of doctors diba and then so for example kung yung training data niya is let's say
05:01poor pictures ng male doctors and then you ask the AI to generate a doctor image ang pag hindi mo
05:07you know pag hindi mo kinorek yung bias ang lalabas doon puro apat na male doctors diba so you all as a
05:13company you have to be conscious of the possible potential biases of the training data such that yung output
05:19i-coconsider mo na tama ba na puro male doctors lang ilalabas diba this is a problem that has
05:25existed and we have to solve for it diba so for example when you use Gemini to generate an image
05:31dun sa image na yun meron syang parang syang fingerprint na huwag namin dun Synth ID na yung fingerprint na yun
05:37basically tells Google Google search and then even the users that this image was AI generated diba so kami we will do our
05:45part to inform people kung merong image generated dun sa image na yun or kung ginamita ng
05:51AI yun diba on YouTube naman for example we incur we require our YouTube creators na kung meron silang
05:59ginamit ng AI sa isang content tapos realistic yung content and then it has a possibility of deceiving
06:06someone we require we put a label na nakalagay dun synthetic or manipulated or basically AI generated diba so again the
06:14being able to tell people whether AI was used especially when there are risks in full it's part of our
06:20responsibility it's part of our AI principles diba so again a lot of these problems are long standing
06:26but now AI adds
06:28Ats
