00:00Let's just be clear here. These announcements from the United Kingdom, Australia and other countries don't mean, do they, that a state has somehow been created.
00:10So what does recognising a Palestinian state actually mean?
00:16This means a major symbolic victory for the Palestinian people and the struggle for self-determination.
00:24We have more than two-thirds of the members of the United Nations now recognise Palestine.
00:28And these particular states have a significant amount of symbolic power.
00:34For example, the United Kingdom, given its historical role in the formation of the State of Israel and Belfort Declaration,
00:42and its recognition of Palestine has a lot of historical and symbolic power.
00:47In addition to that, you have these countries are like Canada, UK and Australia are the closest US allies, and they are now recognising the State of Palestine.
00:59In addition to that, you have France and UK, they are permanent members of the UN Security Council.
01:05So for Palestinian people and their long struggle for self-determination, that's an international legitimacy and recognition of the right of self-determination.
01:16For Israel, this is a major defeat for the State of Israel, and in particular for Benjamin Netanyahu government.
01:24Israel today is more isolated than ever.
01:26And that reflects a major defeat and collapse of Israel's diplomacy.
01:31And for the international community, this reflects the frustration of the international community from the ongoing war in Gaza and the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
01:42And this is like a one symbolic act by the international community to reflect the norms and the values and the principles of the international community and the international law.
