00:00You know, I think coffee tastes like shit.
00:02Hey, why don't you try a five-hour energy shot instead, dude?
00:05Same caffeine as coffee, zero sugar, and 17 flavors.
00:09Hey, thanks!
00:10Now what?
00:11I had some garlic bread last night.
00:13You better leave me alone with this mug.
00:22A 70-year-old woman in Arizona is battling cancer,
00:26but she got to see her all-time favorite band last week.
00:32She's 70.
00:33Okay.
00:34Her all-time favorite band.
00:35What is it?
00:3621 Pilots.
00:37Nine Inch Nails.
00:38Whoa!
00:39Good for her.
00:40Is that crazy?
00:41I want to F you like an animal.
00:45I want to feel you from the inside.
00:51I want to F you like an animal.
00:56My whole existence is flawed.
01:01You bring me closer to God.
01:06I love it!
01:07I would pay to see an old lady sing Nine Inch Nails.
01:11Oh, my God.
01:12Oh, we have to see this lady.
01:13It's pretty awesome.
01:14Here's her story.
01:16Take a listen to this report here.
01:19Terrible lie!
01:22Here we go.
01:23Hold on.
01:24Terrible lie!
01:26I just want to hear her.
01:27Anyway.
01:28Just because you got grim news from the doctor
01:30or you listen to really dark, loud music,
01:33that doesn't mean you can't spread kindness.
01:35And that's the case for Carla,
01:36who rocked a wish of a lifetime.
01:40There's no telling what Carla Wells might
01:42could be listening to in those headphones.
01:44This is stuff I partied to back in the 70s.
01:48She's got our headphones.
01:48She explained her life is a never-ending versatile playlist.
01:52Ranging from Jefferson Airplane, Jethro Tell,
01:55and Yes when she was growing up.
01:56Pala cello is my favorite instrument.
01:59To the mood-setting Motown or classical quartets on Sundays.
02:03But a closer look at her 70-year-old musical catalog,
02:07and there's one genre that's louder than the rest.
02:10Korn is probably my second favorite band.
02:13She's a rocker through and through.
02:16Too much acid.
02:18She loves cool, a perfect circle, Lincoln Park.
02:20But this 70-year-old's all-time favorite artist is Nine Inch Nails.
02:25He does write a lot of things about death.
02:28Those songs about death hit a little differently these days,
02:32as this Mesa Senior Living facility is part of her hospice care.
02:36Carla's been battling a spreading form of breast cancer,
02:39and this comes a few years after cancer took her husband.
02:42But grim news from the doctor or dark music didn't hurt Carla's kindness.
02:48I believe the more that you give, the more you get back.
02:52You know, always.
02:54And I love giving things away.
02:57When her neighbors needed walkers and wheelchairs,
02:59Carla didn't hesitate to offer up extras at her home.
03:03That led to a caretaker to nominate her for AARP's wish of a lifetime,
03:08reconnecting seniors with their passions.
03:11That wish was granted in the form of floor seats.
03:15So here she is in the middle of the mosh pit at PHX Arena,
03:19walking out but feet from frontman Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails.
03:27Carla is at peace for when her playlist does come to an end,
03:31and says the best way to live life is when the kindness is turned all the way up.
03:37The two words, be kind.
03:39What you say might cheer them up in ways that you have no idea does.
03:45Jordan Bonnke, ABC 15, Arizona.
03:48It's tough for me to sing like her now.
03:50No, you can't after that.
03:51No, she's awesome.
03:52She would love for you to sing like her.
03:54You make it all go away.
03:58You make it all go away.
04:03I just want something.
04:07But what's wild, so she...
04:08I just want something I can never have.
04:13She is ahead of her time because I feel like when our generation is that age,
04:24then that will be the music that we grew up with, that we love, for a lot of us anyway.
04:30Right?
04:31But she's older than that.
04:34She got into them older in life.
04:36Right, so I can remember when, before Korn was a big band,
04:44my sister got into Korn when nobody knew who Korn was.
04:50Okay.
04:50Like, she's playing this stuff.
04:53I'm like, damn, what in the heck are you listening to?
04:56And so during that time, she would have been like my mom.
05:04Right.
05:04You know what I mean?
05:05Like your mom getting into Korn.
05:06Yeah, my mom gets into it because, like, Kate's playing it.
05:09Yeah.
05:09And she's like, oh, yeah, I like it.
05:11You know, and then you just get older with them.
05:15It's unusual.
05:16It doesn't happen.
05:17It doesn't happen much.
05:18Yeah.
05:19I'd love to hear her do that.
05:21Boo, ba, ba, do, ba, ba, do, ba, do, ba, do, ba, do, ba, do, ba, do, ba, do, ba,
05:22I'd love for her to do the Korn Scott.
05:26I'm not giving myself a migraine headache today.
05:30Yeah, I think...
05:30I think you got it.
05:33Yeah.
05:33I think you nailed it.
05:35I'd love to see it live.
05:39Yeah.
05:40Glad.
05:40So glad she got to see that show.
05:42Sounds like an amazing woman, too.
05:43Like, she does a lot of good for people, so.
05:45Glad they did something nice.
05:46Very cool attitude about it all.
05:47I don't know if I'd be like, yeah, bring the news in and get my blanket.
05:51Yeah, no, you wouldn't.
05:53I know you wouldn't.
05:54Everyone's different.
05:54I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
05:55I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
05:56I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
05:57I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
05:58I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
05:59I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
06:00I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
06:01I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
06:02I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
06:03I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
06:04I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
06:05I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
06:06I don't know if I'd be like, yeah.
06:07I don't know if I'd be like.
