00:00Labeled the worst restaurant meal in America, the big catch from Long John Silver's.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 fast food items of the past
00:11that we'd rather not see make a comeback in the future.
00:14So here we are with our Flying Fish Roast Salmon Cream Cheese Pizza.
00:19Number 10, McDLT, McDonald's.
00:22In 1985, McDonald's wanted to revolutionize the way we package fast food items.
00:26The McDLT, also known as the McDeluxe, was a cheeseburger with crisp lettuce and chilled tomato slices.
00:32McDonald's new McDLT. It could be the best-tasting lettuce and tomato hamburger ever.
00:38In order to keep the vegetable toppings cold, McDonald's had the idea to create a container with separate compartments
00:43for the hot and cold elements of the sandwich to preserve flavor integrity.
00:47Just once, you'd like your hamburger hot and your lettuce and tomato cool and crisp all at the same time?
00:52Yeah!
00:52Well, I say, you got it! I'm talking McDonald's new lettuce and tomato hamburger, the McDLT!
00:59Innovative? Perhaps. Gimmicky and wasteful? Most definitely.
01:03Customers found this extra packaging did little to enhance their experience,
01:06and McDonald's was heavily scrutinized by environmental activists for their wasteful styrofoam packaging.
01:11Due to these factors, the McDLT and its over-the-top packaging were both discontinued in 1998.
01:16The burger stays hot on the McGovern side, and the McFrid side keeps the lettuce and tomato cool and crisp.
01:23They're kept apart until I put them together. That's why the McDLT tastes so good and fresh.
01:29Number 9. Seafood Salad, Taco Bell.
01:32Chances are, when you're craving cold, fresh seafood, your first thought isn't going to be fast food.
01:37It almost definitely isn't going to be Taco Bell.
01:40Introducing new seafood salad from Taco Bell.
01:42Fresh vegetables, tender bay shrimp, and a delicious blend of whitefish and snow crab.
01:47A refreshing change from anything on a bun.
01:50For that reason, Taco Bell's seafood salad seemed doomed from the very start.
01:54The salad was introduced in the 1980s, and featured ingredients like shrimp, whitefish, snow crab, and heaps of black olives.
02:01The salad was gunning for the Filet-O-Fish market, which historically has catered to Catholics abstaining from meat during Lent.
02:07We'll give you a delicious seafood salad for just $2.99.
02:10Taco Bell's advertisements for the seafood salad often made jabs at the fried fish sandwich, claiming to be the superior fast food fish option.
02:17McDonald's had no cause for concern. Taco Bell's seafood salad was quickly discontinued due to low sales.
02:23Taco Bell's salad, ooh, what a treat.
02:26Number 8. Halloween Whopper, Burger King.
02:28This seasonal promotion from Burger King met headlines in 2015 for its truly terrifying side effects.
02:34This Halloween, things will get dark.
02:37With A1 flavor baked into the bun, things will get deliciously dark at Burger King.
02:42Advertisements for this Halloween offering caught the attention of consumers due to the burger's striking black bun, colored with the help of plenty of food dye and flavored with A1 barbecue sauce.
02:51While a black bun isn't the most appetizing visual in the world, plenty of people got into the Halloween spirit and tried the burger, only to find out the real scare would come much later.
03:00But this right here is just rocking your boy right now, man.
03:03Post-digestion, many Halloween Whopper consumers reported that the bun's dye caused bright green excrement, an alarming sight that Burger King did not warn customers about.
03:12Understandably, Burger King has not brought this promotional item back in subsequent years.
03:16Try the all-new Halloween Whopper, dripping with A1 sauce, right now for a limited time, only at Burger King.
03:23Number 7, Red Ramen Burger, Red Robin.
03:26The ramen burger was a unique take on two classic food items, from the New York-based chef Keizo Shimamoto.
03:32Shimamoto introduced the burger with ramen noodle patties in place of buns at an outdoor food hall in 2013, making it an instant hit among foodies.
03:41You have fresh ramen noodle buns, with a fresh beef patty.
03:46The Red Ramen Burger is Red Robin's rip-off of Shimamoto's burger from 2016.
03:50When it comes to burgers, it seems a funky bun is a novelty that only really works once.
03:55Crunchy, doesn't taste like ramen.
03:57There should be like stuff that's in a bowl of ramen.
04:00But like, am I just making a bowl of ramen?
04:02Red Robin's take on the ramen burger was moderately well-received, but the noodle-based bun's lack of integrity meant this burger fell apart quickly,
04:10and the lack of originality made this burger really nothing special, despite its unconventional bun.
04:15The noodles are kind of overwhelming, there's a lot of noodles.
04:18Number 6, McLobster, McDonald's.
04:21The McLobster, also known as the Lobster Roll, was a regional McDonald's offering available only in New England and Atlantic Canada
04:28that featured 100% real North Atlantic lobster at an absolute steal of a price.
04:33It's McLobster season, made with celery, creamy dressing, a bakery fresh bun, and lobster caught here in the Maritimes.
04:39Try one today!
04:40In 2016, the final year the Lobster Roll was offered, it was sold for $8.99, less than half the price of a typical lobster roll in the area.
04:48The sandwich was only available during the summer months that provided a more plentiful supply of fresh lobster.
04:54And while the lobster was decent quality, food critics were underwhelmed by McDonald's take on the New England delicacy.
04:59It's bound to make a splash with everyone!
05:01With an abundance of incredible alternatives around, it made little sense why anyone spending a summer in New England would turn to McDonald's for their lobster fix.
05:09The delicious McLobster. Get one before they're gone.
05:12Number 5, Big Catch Meal, Long John Silver's.
05:16Calling the Big Catch Meal from Long John Silver's one of the worst fast food meals in history isn't a matter of opinion.
05:22It was scientifically proven by the Center for Science and the Public Interest in 2013.
05:26It says the winner is a meal from Long John Silver's.
05:30The meal, which featured fried fish, hush puppies, and onion rings, contained 19 grams of saturated fats, 33 grams of trans fats, and nearly double the recommended daily intake of sodium.
05:41I wouldn't recommend it if you're on a diet. I'm not against it. I think it's good stuff, but you have to, you know, it's your choice.
05:48The CSPI called a wholly battered and fried meal a heart attack on a hook.
05:52The CSPI's report received massive media attention, resulting in Long John Silver's pulling the unhealthy meal due to backlash by the end of 2013.
06:00Like, it makes me feel worse about every other time I've ever been to Long John Silver's.
06:03Number 4, Bell Beefer, Taco Bell.
06:06Taco Bell's one-time slogan, Think Outside the Bun, rings hollow with the memory of this once-popular burger alternative offered by the Mexican-inspired fast food chain.
06:15To get the club with a twist, think outside the bun.
06:18The awkwardly named Bell Beefer was a staple of Taco Bell menus from the 1970s until some point in the mid-90s, when declining sales led to the sandwich being pulled.
06:27Though the Bell Beefer seems burger-like with its traditional bun, on closer inspection, the sandwich appears closer to a sloppy joe, with its taco-seasoned ground beef topped with lettuce and onions.
06:37Uh, we don't know what the actual packaging look like, so this is all artistic speculation.
06:42Although some die-hard Bell Beefer fans successfully campaigned for the sandwich's reintroduction in the early 2010s, it's just not what people seem to want when they go to Taco Bell.
06:51Number 3, Gooey Apple Green Slime Sauce, Burger King.
06:55In the 90s, when Nickelodeon was king and Ghostbusters was the hottest franchise, everyone wanted to get in on the slime trend, including Burger King.
07:03The tasty new Burger King big kid's meal with more fun food, like six-piece chicken tenders with gooey apple green slime dipping sauce.
07:08In 1999, Burger King teamed up with Nickelodeon for their back-to-school promotion, and came up with this fluorescent green jelly-like dipping sauce to include with the meal.
07:16The sauce was candy-sweet, like an apple-flavored jelly rancher, and was paired with chicken nuggets for a salty-sweet combo.
07:23Nowadays, with the rising concerns about fast food companies marketing unhealthy food to children, this kid magnet sauce with no nutritional value definitely seems like a relic from the past.
07:32Hey, we hear ya! That's why the Burger King big kid's meal has more great-tasting food, fun, and of course, a cool toy!
07:37Number 2. Flying Fish Roe Salmon Cream Cheese Pizza
07:40Pizza Hut, the inventor of the stuffed crust, loves to push the boundaries of their humble creation, but this might have been a step too far.
07:48So we should talk about why is this pizza so special. Basically, it's a stuffed crust pizza, and you want to hold that, Sidney?
07:54Yeah.
07:54And the crust is stuffed with salmon roe and cream cheese.
07:59At Hong Kong Pizza Hut locations in 2014, you could get a pizza topped with crayfish, scallops, shrimp, and clams on a crust stuffed with salmon-flavored cream cheese, and fish eggs.
08:09You have to admire their creativity.
08:11Fish eggs are the last thing anyone would expect to find when biting into a slice of pizza.
08:15This offering was only available for a limited time.
08:18Apologies to any mega-seafood fans who may have just been inspired to take a flight to Hong Kong.
08:22But when it comes to stuffed crust, why mess with a classic?
08:25Mixed feelings. It's not great. It's not bad. But it's heavy.

08:45Number 1. Buffalo Latte and Buffalo Crunch Donut.
08:51Tim Hortons.
08:52In 2017, exclusively at Buffalo locations of this Canada-based chain, customers could try a latte infused with the city's most famous food invention, buffalo sauce.
09:02Yes, the bright orange kind that comes on wings.
09:04It is espresso, mocha, steamed milk, hot sauce.
09:09There's whipped cream on top and there's like a buffalo-looking powder on the top of that.
09:15I mean, it smells like a legit chicken wing.
09:17Perhaps as an alternative for those who don't like pumpkin spice, this latte featured espresso, steamed milk, and mocha alongside buffalo sauce flavor.
09:25What's even more bizarre is that this wasn't Tim Hortons' first time trying to break buffalo sauce into the breakfast world.
09:30In 2014, the chain debuted the Buffalo Crunch Donut at the New York State Fair.
09:35The donut was glazed with buffalo sauce and topped with crushed hot chips and a generous helping of buffalo-flavored cream.
09:41An original idea, but we'll stick to chicken for our buffalo sauce vehicle of choice.
09:45It's like if you've ever eaten that chocolate, that chili chocolate with the chilies in it.
09:51That's kind of what it tastes like.
09:52Did you try any of these fast food items?
09:54Would you try them if they came back?
