00:00Wendy's new Big Bacon Cheddar is here, because to make new flavors, you have to go above
00:04and beyond.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best fast food burgers
00:09that are no longer on menus, but are still in our hearts.
00:18Number 10.
00:19Chop House Cheddar Burger – Whataburger Whataburger is a beloved fast food restaurant
00:23in the South, especially in Texas.
00:25In 2009, they introduced the Chop House Cheddar Burger.
00:31This thing was a beast, with not one, but two beef patties, grilled onions, shredded
00:36cheddar cheese, two slices of bacon, and steak sauce, all on a 5-inch bun.
00:40The burger dropped in early August, and by September, it was gone.
00:44Although that wasn't because people didn't like it, it was always meant to be a limited
00:47time run, and even returned for a short time in 2010.
00:53In fact, the company called the burger a hit.
00:56Okay, Whataburger, so bring it back already!
00:59Number 9.
01:00Mini Sirloin Burgers – Jack in the Box Small hamburgers and sliders were all the
01:04rage back in the late 2000s.
01:06Jack in the Box dipped their toes into that yummy water with their Mini Sirloin Burgers.
01:14These sliders were straightforward burgers with American cheese, grilled onions, and
01:18ketchup, and you got three of them per order.
01:20In 2009, along with the new burgers, Jack in the Box did what they do best, made a really
01:25funny commercial.
01:30The little eats got a fair amount of hype, and seemed to be a hit with customers, but
01:33when the company did a menu board revamp in 2011, the Mini Sirloin Burgers didn't make
01:37the cut.
01:38Number 8.
01:39Bacon and Blue Burger – Wendy's Maybe you thought putting blue cheese on your
01:43hamburger was something they only did at fancy restaurants, well, do you consider
01:51Wendy's fancy?
01:52Because back in 2010, the company introduced its customers to the Bacon and Blue Burger,
01:56which had bacon, sautéed onions, steak sauce, and yep, crumbled blue cheese.
02:01And don't forget the brioche bun as well.
02:11That attracted a loyal following of Blue Elephant Diners, however, it was also a little
02:15complicated to prepare and very messy to eat, which isn't ideal for those of us who like
02:19to eat our fast food burgers in the car.
02:21Perhaps that's what led to its demise.
02:28Number 7.
02:29McDLT – McDonald's Speaking of fancy, what can be more fancy
02:33than a hamburger served in a two-part container with the warm ingredients on one side and
02:37the cool ingredients on the other?
02:48Sure there was a little assembly required, but it was worth it to keep the hot and cold
02:52separate until the last possible moment prior to consumption.
03:01Or at least, that was the theory.
03:03Did it really make for a better burger experience?
03:06Maybe?
03:07Was it worth all the extra styrofoam needed to produce the containers?
03:10Nope.
03:11And when McDonald's switched to a more eco-friendly packaging, that was it for the
03:14McDLT.
03:20Number 6.
03:21Beyond Famous Star With Cheese – Carl's Jr.
03:24In 2019, Carl's Jr. was one of the very first fast food chains to dive into the plant-based
03:29meat market and seemed like a good move at the time.
03:35The plant-based meat craze was hitting its stride, and soon many other restaurants and
03:39fast food outlets would get in on the game as well.
03:45We assume sales of the Beyond Famous Star With Cheese were decent, given that it lasted
03:50for a solid four years on the menu.
03:51However, as of April 2024, the plant-based burger had been taken off menus at most Carl's
03:56Jr. locations.
04:03Number 5.
04:04Bell Beefer – Taco Bell Taco Bell has made it their mission to think
04:07outside the bun for decades, but back in the early 1960s, when entrepreneur Glen Bell began
04:15his Taco Bell adventures, he thought right inside the bun for one of the restaurant's
04:19menu items – a chili burger.
04:21More akin to a Sloppy Joe than a standard burger, it was ground beef between two buns
04:25topped with lettuce and onions, and, if you upgraded, cheese and tomatoes.
04:29It went by many names, but will always be remembered by fans as the Bell Beefer.
04:33The beefer stuck around for decades, but by the middle of the 90s, it was no more.
04:42Number 4.
04:43Wagyu Deluxe Steakhouse Burger – Arby's While Arby's has always had the meat, one
04:47thing they never had – until 2022 – was a hamburger.
04:53But when they finally got into the burger game, they didn't mess around with sliders
05:01or wimpy patties.
05:03They went with Wagyu beef – well, 52% Wagyu beef – and a burger cooked sous vide style
05:08that, they claimed, was 50% larger than a quarter pounder from McDonald's.
05:12We checked out some reviews from the time, and people seemed to really enjoy it.
05:15Its popularity was also seen in the fact that the chain sold out of the item faster than
05:20expected.
05:25They did bring it back soon after, but it appears that the burger was always meant as
05:28a limited time offer, and not a permanent menu item.
05:31Number 3.
05:32Loaded Steakhouse – Burger King In press releases back in 2008, Burger King
05:36touted Steakhouse Burgers as offering the indulgence of an entire steak dinner at a
05:40fraction of the cost.
05:45Listen to this.
05:46An Angus patty, topped with mashed potatoes, crispy fried onions, and A1 steak sauce.
05:51Boom.
05:52We don't know why it only lasted about a year, but now we kinda wish we had a time
05:56machine to go back to 2008 and try it.
06:02Burger King does have a Steakhouse Burger on some locations' menus today, but without
06:06the mashed potatoes, it sounds like an unloaded disappointment.
06:09And while we're talking BK, let us also mention the discontinued Crown Jewels line
06:13of chicken-based and beef-based sandwiches, which were launched at New Zealand locations
06:17in 2005.
06:30Number 2.
06:31Big Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger – Wendy's Few fast food chains have made bacon a priority
06:36like Wendy's.
06:37We're looking at you, Baconator.
06:43Never once to rest on their pork laurels, Wendy's introduced the Big Bacon Cheddar
06:47Cheeseburger in 2021, calling it a cheesy, bacon-lover dream come true.
06:52But those dreams turned into nightmares in 2022, when the Big Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger
06:55was discontinued.
07:01Why you ask?
07:02Well, the truth is, as part of the Made to Crave line, it was never meant to be a permanent
07:05menu item, and thus, it was reportedly removed in order to make way for the Pretzel Bacon
07:11Once you lock eyes on the pretzel bun, beer cheese, and applewood smoked bacon, nothing
07:17will distract you.
07:19That's the circle of fast food life, it seems.
07:38Number 1.
07:39Deluxe – McDonald's McDonald's launched the Arch Deluxe in 1996, with an eye toward
07:43a specific target audience.
07:49This was a burger for grown-ups.
07:51Or at least, that is what the most expensive fast food marketing campaign ever at the time
07:55told us.
07:56What made it so adult?
07:58Was it the split-top potato flour sesame seed bun, the circular peppered bacon, or the Dijon
08:02A's?
08:06Whatever it was, it wasn't what grown-ups wanted.
08:08Or at least, not enough grown-ups wanted it to make it a profitable venture for the
08:11company.
08:12And by 2000, the Golden Arches no longer sold the Arch Deluxe.
08:21Do you miss any of these discontinued burgers?
08:23Let us know which ones still make your mouth water in the comments below.
