00:00Well, I'm sorry, I can't be as positive about it because when you put it that way and you're talking about the fundamentals, this is the one thing that Vrabel was supposed to be really good with, right?
00:12You know, it's the chess metaphor of, like, you know, perfect strategy does nothing for you unless you have good tactics, right?
00:21And tactics are the fundamentals.
00:23So you can have a good game plan.
00:25You can have Josh McDaniels in there as your offensive coordinator.
00:28The pieces are the pieces, and they're not great.
00:31So what do you need above all else if you're the New England Patriots right now?
00:36Good fundamentals, good tactics, right?
00:39We'll start there, and we'll see if these pieces that we have are able to implement the strategy if they're good enough to do it.
00:46The tactics are crap right now.
00:49The fundamentals aren't there.
00:51Turning the ball over that much is going to undo good teams.
00:55And this isn't a good team personnel-wise, so what's Vrabel doing?
00:59If he's not taking this team from the bare bones and helping his coaches coach the basics, the fundamentals, then maybe things aren't so rosy.
01:10Sorry, Fred.
01:11And I know you're kind of playing angels advocate here and being positive with some of it, but I know you also feel that way.
01:18I can't feel that way with a head coach that's supposed to be just a good, sound, fundamental football guy if the fundamentals are this bad.
01:25I agree.
01:26That's why I say you can be happy about all the statistical things and the efficiencies and the things you did right.
01:32But if you screw up the most basic things, none of that matters.
01:35It's like the Celtics being like, oh, well, we beat the Knicks because we got better shots than they did.
01:40Well, who's winning the basket?
01:42And I put it this way in the simplest possible terms on my podcast last night.
01:46You guys remember Liar Liar, of course?
01:49Yeah.
01:50Oscar winner.
01:51Midway through the movie, Jim Carrey comes back in the office, and he's flustered and disappointed.
01:55Very reserved Jim Carrey in that film.
01:56Yes.
01:57Every film, I find.
01:58Understated performance.
01:59Yes.
02:01His secretary goes, hey, I got a call.
02:03This guy's knocking over ATMs, and he can't stop himself.
02:06He needs, quote, legal advice.
02:07So Jim Carrey walks over, picks up the phone, holds it out in front of his case, and goes, stop breaking the law, a-hole.
02:14And I look at the Patriots and go, stop breaking the law.
02:18Stop committing penalties.
02:20Stop having turnovers.
02:21Stop missing, on average, 12 tackles a game.
02:24That's how simple this is.
02:25If you're screwing up the simple stuff, all the cool, complex schemes and efficiencies and blah, blah, blah don't matter.
