Draw against Aston Villa was “deserved” says Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka

00:00Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka believes that his side were deserving of the point that

00:05they earned against Aston Villa at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon.

00:10Yeah, I think from the first minute we knew that the game would be very emotional. Always

00:17here at home with the fans, with the support we have. I had the feeling that we were good

00:22in the game. Of course, the red card changed all the plan we create during the week, but

00:29in the end, I believe that the one point is much more than deserved. What a mentality

00:34from the team. Team spirit shown one more time that it's very difficult to play against

00:38us and I'm very happy that in the end we got what we deserve.

00:43When you first joined the club, that's exactly what you talked about, embodying that mentality

00:47and that spirit. And even in the early signs of this season, we're showing that in abundance.

00:52Yeah, it's not always easy to come to a team who came up. We knew the history of the club

00:59but as well, there's so many new faces in the team with the players that are here and to

01:05get connected as quick as possible. And of course, we had a good start, but it's not

01:09a consequence of luck. It's how we work.

01:12And Middlesbrough claim their fifth win of the championship season so far with six games

01:17played as they defeated West Bromwich Albion at the Riverside by two goals to one on Friday.

01:22Pretty good start. West Brom, I thought, came into it fairly even. We got the first goal,

01:29which was key. But they're a good team. We had to adjust once or twice. We showed resilience

01:35tonight. I like that. I like that about us a lot because if we're a resilient team, we're

01:39fighting for each other because we've got quality, we'll be all right. And I like that about us.

01:43George going off. What a warrior. But that egg on his head was massive and he couldn't see

01:48out of one eye. So he looked like Rocky at the end of one of his fights. So we had to do

01:55the change. So we end up really, really with one sort of out and out, centre-back on the

01:59pitch. So to play the way we did against a really good team then was great. Sammy came

02:06on, fantastic. You know, Cali getting the winner when he came on, really good. Really pleased

02:11with the lads and all of the impact from everybody tonight.
