00:00There will be a risk for Lockheed Martin that this is going to cannibalise their market.
00:04If the US orders F-47s, it will be at the cost of F-35s.
00:08I mean, it's a different aircraft, meant for a different purpose, but still.
00:13Questions have also been raised within the Trump administration
00:15about the F-35s' prospects in the face of unmanned aircraft.
00:20To tackle these concerns, Lockheed Martin is pushing forward with a combat drone system
00:25in which F-35s operate alongside unmanned craft.
00:28And there are European companies also catching up with their next-generation jets.
00:34You have the Tempest, which is a jet that's been developed by the British, the Italians and the Germanese.
00:39All three countries are big buyers of US jets.
00:43And then further down the line, you have something called the F-CAS,
00:45which is the French, the Germans and the Spanish, and potentially more partners within that.
00:51And so all of these jets will sap demand for US aircraft.
00:56The British, for instance, never bought the F-16 because they bought the Eurofighter.
01:03Development of a new jet fighter takes decades, but for the F-35,
01:07the arrival of the latest-generation aircraft means cutthroat competition is not that far away.
01:12The Tempest is supposed to come out in the next 10 years.
01:15It's less time than you'd think.
01:16Because people buy them over decades, it's going to definitely sap demand from at least those countries,
01:22the countries that make it.
01:23But it will also be a competitor out in the market because it will have all the things the F-35 has.
