00:00Well, there's the man that makes the difference so often in so many games.
00:04The club and the country, of course.
00:06He's got a five-goal haul in a recent international break.
00:10Well, they've faced each other before, and in fact, Conte leads 4-3 in terms of wins to Guardiola.
00:17We'd love to make that 5-3 in the next couple of hours.
00:26Well, let's give you the team news.
00:28In the Manchester City European debut for last season's Champions League winning goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, recruited, of course, from PSG.
00:37It is, in fact, a line-up unchanged.
00:41That's rare for Pep Guardiola, but he wants some consistency from it.
00:44Erling Haaland tonight needs just one goal to reach 50 in the Champions League, and if he does it, he'll be the quickest ever to reach that landmark.
00:53The officials are from Germany.
01:06Felix Zvaia is the man in charge.
01:10And the captain's Bernardo Silva of City and Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
01:20Of course, played many an international, including a triumphant Euro-winning title with Donnarumma.
01:26And he's playing it right back.
01:28He's got a chance of at least challenging him tonight.
01:31Well, Napoli are also unchanged from their 3-1 win away to Fiorentina, including their new goalkeeper, Vanyan Milenkovic-Savic,
01:38whose career would have started here in Manchester with United, but he couldn't get a work permit as a youngster.
01:44Midfielder Scott McTominay was signed from United just over a year ago and has done brilliantly.
01:49And Rasmus Hoyland recently joined on loan from the same club, but none with quite the connections of the returning Kevin De Bruyne.
01:57This match was brought to you by Heineken, UEFA Champions League official sponsor.
02:10So, City will always be his club.
02:13And he's sending out to try and beat them tonight.
02:17And he will remember that Manchester City started this first new structure a year ago.
02:24Stewart with a 0-0 draw against Italian opposition in Inter.
02:28An Inter side that went on to the final.
02:32Didn't play particularly well in the final, of course, but put in a very good display here.
02:36Not just defensively, but caught Man City out on several occasions on the counter-attack.
02:41Can Napoli do the same?
02:43Certainly got some players to do it.
02:47So, we're underway.
02:49A lot of sky-blue light poo around the stadium, of course.
02:52That's Napoli's first-choice strip as well, but an alternative tonight.
03:00Not necessary for the fans.
03:05Guardiola, Doku with the flick.
03:09The number 99 there is John Gieser, who's also played in English football before.
03:16Had a spell with Fulham.
03:16Lutano outside him on the left-hand side.
03:20Is it 4-1, 4-1 against the same formations, Jim?
03:24I think Kevin De Bruyne will play a little bit more advanced than the other three midfield players.
03:29And I'm not sure McTominay would enjoy going too wide out on this left-hand side.
03:34He likes to make runs through the central area when he can.
03:37See how narrow he is at the moment.
03:39And then he's come into Broner in that slightly more advanced position.
03:42He'll join Hoyland as much as he can.
03:45Support clearance by Ruben Diaz.
03:46Now, Politano got in the way of.
03:51And that's probably where the whip will come from.
03:53Politano out on the right-hand side.
03:55Very much a left-footed player.
03:58He likes to get it on his left foot and bend balls into the box.
04:02He's got a bit of pace as well, a bit of trickery.
04:06Monopoli have started well in the defence of their title.
04:09They didn't when they won it in a couple of years.
04:11He's about to finish 10th in the season between the two titles
04:14and didn't even qualify for Europe.
04:17So, it's a return for them.
04:23City pretty indestructible in the Champions League group.
04:30Stage and league matches at home.
04:33In 21, 8 wins, 18 wins and 3 draws.
04:37They're often big scorers.
04:40Donnarumma.
04:41He's taken on the mantle of Edison.
04:45He's moved on.
04:46He's made a wonderful part in the City's successes.
04:53Donnarumma knows what it's like to be at the top of the tree.
04:59But it's a new start for him.
05:02Nicely worked wide by Phil Foden.
05:07And he did Clarion.
05:08A slowish start here.
05:15The feeling out going on.
05:18Not just for the match, but for the competition.
05:20What lies ahead?
05:21It's still eight games in this league phase.
05:26I'm sure you have learnt that by now.
05:30Rodri.
05:31Rodri.
05:31Rodri.
05:32Rodri.
05:33Rodri.
05:34Rodri.
05:35Rodri.
05:35back for the tricks and pass as well
05:43Ruben Diaz very low block from Antonio Conte's team
05:53it's a low block at the moment they actually tried to press them all much
05:56higher up the field they got played around and then they've retreated
06:01there's always his circle of animation the away technical area
06:09I've worked it to give and the old loves coming forward
06:13and here's Niko O'Reilly go through
06:20Harland of course waiting in the middle
06:25well it's worth an attempt to leave the piece and Ruben Diaz but not one of his
06:29better efforts
06:35it's always going to be a tactical battle between these two coaches
06:38Pep Guardiola has to mix things up at times not today in terms of the personnel
06:43but I'm sure now for a couple of different
06:46tactics up his sleeve and Antonio Conte ever since I saw him
06:49take on Juventus many many years ago and make them into a
06:52title winning side on several occasions he's always been an inspiration
06:57so watch as a coach did say that winning the league with Napoli
07:01earlier this year was the most unexpected triumph
07:04and his many successes in domestic football but as a champions league coach
07:09he's still got a lot to do really to establish a reputation
07:11and never been past the quarter-final
07:15and even with that really top-class Juventus side he had
07:21did win it as a player with Juve
07:24so enough with the throat
07:32it's a nice turn by Doku can stretch into space here and he's still going
07:37trying to slide it in for Harland it breaks for Foden
07:40but the whistle is gone
07:46coming together on the edge of the area
07:52Tijani Rinders having his say
07:53Stewart yeah Doku coming in field from that left-hand side
07:57doesn't quite pick the right pass to Harland here
07:59Di Lorenzo slips over
08:03Doku just about catches him
08:04he's on his way down wasn't it from the slip
08:11and the free kick given
08:13and the German referee
08:20you know it's been billed as Kevin De Bruyne's day
08:25often it does happen when a player
08:28moves on a legendary player and suddenly there's a reason to come back and you
08:32really bigger than the match itself but not
08:35once the match has started
08:38result
08:44walk the bounce for Harland
08:49when we talk about Harland being a great goal scorer
08:52he's slightly critical of him over the last couple of years for his actual general play when the ball's played up to his feet
08:59as he worked hard enough to keep hold of it to link up the play did well at the weekend
09:03he's got to do the same tonight
09:06he's on kick set
09:07and he's on the second season
09:14and he's on the second season
09:19and his defensive partner
09:23Berkema who's a Dutchman
09:24He's only just joined he made his debut the weekend and scored against Fiorentina
09:29In from a set piece
09:32Bernardo Silva says this is his last season with Manchester City
09:42A long goodbye in the summer
09:54No, John stones for Manchester City though. He has been training
10:03Early possession for the home team
10:08Fodin the Bernardo quite on the same page there
10:14I'm Jono
10:16Linkovic savage who has a famous brother as well
10:20In Italy for a long time now in Saudi Arabia
10:24Vardy on
10:32You mentioned right at the start Stuart about the strategic history between these two coaches and it's settling into
10:40That kind of battle
10:42I think you're at the same game as I was a few years ago in the European Championship
10:502016 when Antonio Conte with a very poor Italian side
10:56Outplayed the Spanish team. It was the best tactical display of football I've seen
11:02Moved on to Chelsea and did exactly the same there for a season
11:06Broke back
11:12Wider area from the stretch
11:14Back line
11:16It's a decent strike from Reinders
11:18Pretty routine save for Linkovic savage is a big man
11:22Two huge goalkeepers here
11:24Two huge goalkeepers here
11:26Good strike
11:27Hit with power
11:28Bit too straight
11:32He's trying to whip up the crowd
11:34Pep Guardiola
11:36I'm waiting
11:38Rodri's in there a tall man Foden takes the corner
11:50Hillkeeper stays on his line
11:51Doku can get it down
11:52Actually the touch just got
11:54A bit of bounce on it
11:56Away from him
11:57Otherwise he would have had the sort of time you don't expect
12:00To convert at the far post
12:02I wonder if he's in two minds whether to go and head it
12:04And then just at the last minute decided to control it with his chest
12:11And for Rasmus Hoylem
12:12He marked his debut
12:14For Napoli
12:16In not happy circumstances
12:18With the goal after 14 minutes
12:20Eating a former Manchester United goalkeeper in David De Gea
12:26He's a player that just lost his confidence in the end
12:29At Manchester United
12:31Team was struggling
12:32He was struggling to convince everybody what a good player he was
12:36A very good speller Atalanta
12:38That's what got him the move
12:40To Manchester United
12:42Manchester United
12:43Manchester United
12:52By Politano
12:58Manchester City of course were
13:00In the club world cup
13:02In the United States
13:04In June
13:07Rather surprisingly
13:08Knocked out by
13:10Al-Hilal
13:12Saudi Arabia
13:13But
13:14On the night
13:15It shouldn't have been a surprise
13:17The
13:18And Preserve City played very well
13:23That's what I was talking about
13:24Ball played forward
13:25It was 1v1
13:26Haaland
13:27Against
13:28Bokamak
13:29Haaland didn't really back into him enough
13:31There's
13:32There's
13:33Stan
13:37Labotka
13:38And
13:39He plays that holding role
13:40So successfully
13:43He's back in international
13:45Been around a long time
13:48This has De Bruyne
13:50And
13:51He springs it out
13:52Spinach solo
13:53Is a very attacking left back
13:54And
13:56He's
13:58Nearly provided a
14:00A telling cross there
14:01And he's still on the ball
14:02And he spells danger
14:04And he does
14:05Hang it up towards
14:06Anguissa
14:07Trying to guide it down
14:09With a supporting cast
14:14A little bit of space now
14:15For Manchester City
14:16To counter-attack into
14:17But
14:18Napoli
14:19Getting
14:20Very quickly
14:21Back
14:22With their recovery runs
14:24Spinach solo
14:25Might remember from the
14:26Euro 2020
14:27Which was played in
14:282021
14:29It was in the Italian team
14:30Did very well
14:31And then
14:32Damaged his Achilles tendon
14:33And was out for a while
14:34And not just the tournament
14:35One time afterwards
14:36Very very
14:37Eye-catching player
14:39From
14:40Left back
14:45Offensive side of his game
14:48Being challenged by
14:49Bernardo Silva
14:50And then Foden
14:54Up until that injury
14:55He was the best player
14:56In the tournament
14:57I think he got in the team
14:58At the tournament
14:59Even though he didn't play
15:00The whole tournament
15:01And should have done anyway
15:03Doku
15:05Went to O'Reilly
15:07And Guardiola
15:10And even Diaz
15:15Silver
15:17Nominated
15:18The new captain
15:19The
15:20City
15:21Policy
15:22Was to let the players
15:23Choose the captain
15:24In the past
15:25But this time
15:26Pep Guardiola came out
15:27And said
15:28No, I've made up my mind
15:29It's Bernardo's armband
15:30As reviewed
15:31I think
15:32Still
15:33Didn't
15:37Get
15:42Not
15:43In cima
15:45With
15:48Only
15:49Not
15:51Not
15:52Not
15:53Not
15:55Not
15:56Not
15:57Not
15:58Not
15:58Not
15:59Not
16:00Not
16:00shot already, he's lining up to take pot shots from distance but
16:11a good sign for Antonio Conte, I haven't really played through his Napoli
16:18backline as yet.
16:21It's interesting watching Haaland off the ball, it's not my job to do that Stuart but he seems
16:41to be quite happy to wait for the right ball to come in and get his goals rather than
16:45joining in the build-up play, just a little jog into the penalty area here, tour against
16:51Manchester United, his latest firepower, he'll be setting up for a corner here, Odin appreciating
17:02Doku's start to the game.
17:03He's just got that pace off the mark isn't he here, Doku tries to go down the outside of
17:08Coletano, who does well enough, the right winger.
17:20Guardiola's a threat, the ball's coming to the box, home to Diaz.
17:27He can't quite turn the threat into a goal, such a live wire, when they scored a winner
17:45against Cagliari I think it was in the injury time to win 1-0 in their second game in Serie A
17:50very eye on the fence of their title and actually running out the steps of the staff.
17:56I think that hides, sometimes masks, what a great coach he's been.
18:00There's such an impact on the clubs he takes over.
18:04Some might say Spurs he didn't quite deliver what he was hoping for, but at Juventus and
18:12Inter, Chelsea, with a very poor Italian side he did great jobs.
18:19A little bit of midfield involvement.
18:22Antele Vodka getting on the ball here from McTominay.
18:26With a naked eye it looks something, the figures we've seen on the screen.
18:34But Cagliari wins a corner, O'Reilly seems to be settled in as a left-back.
18:40He certainly came through the youth academies, the central midfield player.
18:47Angiano, the biggest of the centre-backs.
18:55Tominay's good in the air as well.
18:58He's very good in the air.
18:59He's proved that on numerous occasions over the last couple of seasons.
19:04You mentioned Politano's left-footedness.
19:07From the right, you see that in the corner.
19:11It's about to come in when the referee's ready.
19:13He's a wonderful goalkeeper Donnarumma, but we've all seen games where set-pieces when balls
19:22come into the box, he doesn't quite punch his height.
19:25Distracted a bit by Rasmus Hoyland here.
19:30He doesn't come for this one.
19:32He has to keep it out.
19:34And is that point proved or he's a fine goalkeeper on his life?
19:40Well, maybe he thought he couldn't come for that one.
19:42He might have been blocked, but what he does do is make a great save at the end of it.
19:46Here's the delivery.
19:48There's the header.
19:49And he gets down very quickly.
19:51Yes, it's Verkima's header.
19:56He scored in his debut game at the weekend.
20:02And Rumor kept the clean sheet in his debut game.
20:07Here's another example of a defender more worried about the player
20:13rather than trying to attack the ball.
20:15That was a good stop, as you say.
20:20And he's outstanding at that.
20:23He's got such a wonderful reach.
20:25He seems to have been around forever, but he's only 26.
20:30And then Pep Guardiola found he was on the market, I think.
20:35That's, as they say, a no-brainer.
20:38The ball was played, says the referee, who was arriving on the scene, but perhaps not with the best angle.
20:53There's all sorts of elements in this.
20:56And Di Lorenzo is the player that's getting back.
20:59Napoli won the first ball played forward.
21:02Bochema heads it down.
21:04And suddenly the ball gets played into the space, and Di Lorenzo lets it run beyond him.
21:09And then desperate to make the challenge slides in.
21:11There's the first one.
21:12He wins that.
21:13Now the next ball wasn't a good one.
21:15Di Lorenzo should deal with it.
21:16Doesn't.
21:17Does he get the ball?
21:18Let's see from this angle.
21:21No, he doesn't.
21:23He definitely doesn't.
21:24It's daylight between his boot and the ball all the time.
21:29It's close.
21:30But no wonder Erling Haaland was saying, that's outside the penalty area.
21:35Red card.
21:36So the VAR could look, given penalties, he could also look at a VAR.
21:41They're checking for potential red card.
21:44Yeah, red card, should I say.
21:46And I think the Napoli captain will be holding his breath here.
21:59He pulled his hamstring at the same time by the looks of it.
22:05And I think he knows he's in trouble.
22:11Yeah.
22:12And when we get the review by the screen, it's usually ominous.
22:19In terms of altering the on-field decision.
22:24Though this is, of course, on-field as well.
22:30That's the gap, isn't it?
22:31Does it ever get closer than that?
22:33I think it did get a bit closer.
22:35That's...
22:36Maybe a little.
22:37I just don't think he got a touch on the ball.
22:40Doesn't change direction, does it?
22:44There's no covering defender, so it's going to be a red card.
22:49Yeah.
22:50In normal speed, it did look like that, Stuart, didn't it?
22:55And the referee has a different angle, of course.
22:57I mean, we're up high looking down.
22:59But the armband has to go elsewhere.
23:02And Giovanni Di Lorenzo, 32 years old, the captain, 50 caps for Italy, Euro 2020 winner.
23:14And he made two mistakes.
23:15The first one being, he let the ball run inside of him when he could have stuck his foot out and stopped it.
23:20And then desperate to make the challenge.
23:23And he dives in.
23:25Doesn't make contact with the ball.
23:27Makes enough contact with Haaland.
23:29And when the referee goes to look at the monitor, he had no choice other than to send him off.
23:36That's where he should have intercepted it.
23:38Now he's desperate.
23:39And in trying to get the ball, actually, he couldn't avoid getting Haaland, could he?
23:48What Haaland did very well, Haaland almost stepped across him with one foot.
23:52He got his body there, just unbalanced him.
23:56But not what Antonio Conte and Napoli wanted.
24:0121 minutes into the game.
24:04They're going to have a lot of work to do defensively now.
24:08And, of course, that will mean a suspension kicking in.
24:20Home to Sporting away to PSV.
24:23And in time-track Frankfurt.
24:25The next three games on this league stage.
24:29City go to Monaco and then Villarreal.
24:33And the draft excluder is down behind the Napoli wall.
24:42Of course, they should know they can't even in a meeting.
24:45Now that's about fair enough, I think.
24:47The shot is from Tiami Reinders.
24:50Doesn't do any damage on the scoreline to Napoli.
24:53But the sending off is going to make this a very hard fixture.
24:57Always a tricky one.
25:00The odds are tilted much more into Manchester City's favour as Foden lines up the next corner.
25:09That's good work.
25:14By Lempic Savic.
25:19Interesting to see how Napoli rearrange their system here.
25:24He's going to play that right-back.
25:26And one would expect that an attacker will be sacrificed to get another defender on.
25:34It seems there's signs from the dugout that that's going to happen.
25:37But for Kevin De Bruyne now, obviously looking forward to make an imprint on this night.
25:43He's not going to get as much of the ball, that's for sure.
25:45At the moment, Tonitano is playing right-back.
25:49They don't want that to happen for too much longer, Napoli.
26:00Now Ruben Diaz.
26:15Doku.
26:18Taking on the emergency right-back.
26:19Politano's stuck with him.
26:21Winger to winger.
26:23He's got the armband as well, as you can see.
26:25He's given the ball away to Reinders.
26:27And now Rodri stepping in.
26:32Arms are raised by the Napoli backline thinking that Doku was offside.
26:37And in goes Erling Haaland, but not number 50 yet.
26:44Well, his movement was good here.
26:46Read the trajectory of the cross.
26:48It's across the defender.
26:50She just can't keep it down.
26:52Reinders plays a really good ball into the box.
26:56Very unfortunate.
26:57Really good attack into the ball there.
27:08They've been taking their time.
27:13Preparing the personnel change.
27:18Let's try the coach mad.
27:19Trying to make the substitution.
27:21Hasn't quite got his socks ready.
27:26We've seen players who don't bring their match shirt out to sit on the bench.
27:29Kitman having to scurry down tunnels to help us have to get ready.
27:40Not that you were sub very often, Stuart, but I'm sure when you were, you were ready for action at the moment that the need was there.
27:47Good switch of play towards Politano.
27:54He appreciated it.
27:56Is it going to be Kevin De Bruyne to make way?
27:58It is.
27:59It is.
28:00Well, not of his own doing.
28:05But he will understand it.
28:09And he had a really proper farewell here at the end of last season.
28:15Now, he lives in very different circumstances and very different kit.
28:21And the replacement is Matthias Oliveira, European.
28:28Well, that wasn't in the script, Stuart, was it?
28:36It certainly wasn't.
28:41A big chance for Manchester City to really dominate the game now.
28:44Strong play by Rodri, which is the European Footballer of the Year.
28:59They missed a whole chunk of last season.
29:04They had a terrible record, of course, when he wasn't playing.
29:08He said, look, hang on a minute, I'm not Messi.
29:13Come back and dribbled past five players and hit the top corner.
29:19It's a clever ball and well-read by Lankovic-Savic.
29:27A little push in the box, O'Reilly breaking forward.
29:31Just a chip forward.
29:34O'Reilly from his left-back position, making that forward run.
29:37Just hanging on to the defender.
29:40Both the Milankovic-Savic brothers were born in Spain.
29:43Nadab was a pro, not necessarily quite at this level.
29:47Travelling from the native Serbia.
29:50They play for Serbia, of course.
29:55I just wondered what would have happened to his career
29:57had the British authorities allowed him to play
30:01at his first club, Manchester United.
30:07It's going to be a tough job for Hoyland up front.
30:12He's going to get his body in the way of those balls being played forward
30:15so he can try and allow other players to join him.
30:18Can't allow Diaz and Claudio just to win easy headers.
30:23Well, there's a greater weight of expectation, of course, on Manchester City now.
30:3311 against 10.
30:35It's never quite as straightforward as it seems to sound.
30:37There's Bernardo Silva trying to put City up too.
30:51Maybe moving the ball a bit quicker.
30:55Winning is all that matters.
30:56You don't have to win in the first half.
30:57They've been played an ace, really, by the miscalculation.
31:07The stricken Napoli captain,
31:10who got himself sent off in those circumstances.
31:12I think this time from Ruben Diaz after that rather shanked effort early on.
31:22Blocked by McTominay.
31:24So they put in Bernardo Silva in midfield now.
31:27And Kazanov is going to play higher on this right-hand side.
31:31He's a player that I would suggest isn't too expensive with these passing.
31:35Most of these passes have been square and backwards.
31:39Sometimes one touch, two touch.
31:43There is Bernardo Silva.
31:46Fogun.
31:50Yes.
31:52All fired hard and low.
31:55And Giorno, that's the congratulations for reading the play.
32:06To Foden to take the court.
32:09Coming up to the half-hour mark.
32:11And Giorno has just put one header off target.
32:17Giant of a man.
32:20As is the opposing goalkeeper.
32:25That's two brilliant punches already.
32:27By Linkovic-Savic.
32:28And there's Bernardo Silva back to Foden.
32:31Back onside having taken the corner.
32:35It's nicely worked.
32:37It's Kazanov having to cross.
32:39Will be, he's going to have a lot of opportunities to do this.
32:43Foden, left foot.
32:45Good strike.
32:47Good goalkeeping again.
32:49He just found that bit of space, didn't he, Phil Foden, on his left foot.
32:52Nice, soft hands from the goalkeeper.
32:53Doesn't let it get away from him.
32:55He's so dangerous in those sort of positions, Phil Foden.
32:57And the courts were goalkeeping in the Spurs-Virreal game.
32:59One of the craziest own goals that any goalkeeper in the Champions League has ever been responsible for.
33:02And it decided the game.
33:04It was almost impossible to do what he did.
33:05Rodri, Doku.
33:06It's almost impossible to do what he did.
33:07Rodri, Doku.
33:08And the courts were goalkeeping in the Spurs-Virreal game.
33:13One of the craziest own goals that any goalkeeper in the Champions League has ever been responsible for.
33:18And it decided the game.
33:20It was almost impossible to do what he did.
33:30Rodri, Doku.
33:31Doku.
33:36And Bernardo Silva.
33:40Topped by Ruben Diaz.
33:42More time in the Napoli half than in his own.
33:44That's for sure the centre-back.
33:46In these circumstances that will only be likely to continue.
33:50But here's Rinders.
33:52He likes to shoot as we've seen already.
33:54Doku.
33:56Rodri.
33:57Doku.
33:59Bernardo Silva.
34:01Foden was hoping to run that across his body.
34:04To let foot fly with his left foot again, as he did just moments ago.
34:08Onivera has come to the left back, or left wing-back.
34:13He's playing with the back five.
34:14Politano still playing on the right-hand side.
34:16Spinazzola has gone in as the third centre-half.
34:17Blinders.
34:19Which is put on by Hoyland.
34:21It's a holding operation for Napoli.
34:23Still 0-0.
34:25And you'll be happy with that, to see an act of desperation, really.
34:26An act of opportunism.
34:27Pep Guardiola, we've heard down the years, isn't a big fan of shooting from distance.
34:37And there's players shooting from distance.
34:39And the Napoli fans trying to play their part.
34:41And they're in good numbers and in very good voice.
34:42It's the sort of situation where Antonio Conte would love to have Lukaku available to him.
34:51Because he's somebody that can't get his body in the way, hold off defenders.
34:52Another miscalculation, a bit like the Llorento one.
34:53The bull just running free.
34:54Just running free.
34:55All right.
34:56And the Napoli fans trying to play their part.
34:58And they're in good numbers and in very good voice.
35:01It's the sort of situation where Antonio Conte would love to have Lukaku available to him.
35:07Because he's somebody that can't get his body in the way, hold off defenders.
35:12Another miscalculation, a bit like the Llorento one.
35:17He was just running free.
35:21just running free. It's a great touch by Politano. Coilers in the middle, the winger can keep going.
35:29He's got a corner.
35:35Concerned a little bit about O'Reilly.
35:40Accidentally put a foot on him. Yeah, he did, well, put a foot on him. I think he's accidental.
35:47He's hurt, of course.
35:52I said earlier that Politano is quick, he's actually quick over the first two or three yards,
35:57hasn't got pace over 15-20. O'Reilly caught him up there quite easily.
36:10He's been around the national scene, 16 caps.
36:13This is a big man, so he's done a rumour.
36:18Straight down the slot for the new goalkeeper here.
36:22The Champions League winner from 2025. City, of course, winners in 2023.
36:30He played a big part, and here he is.
36:37Mboku, it's nice to get there.
36:43Mboku, it's nice to get there.
36:47Roderick.
36:55Ruben Diaz.
36:58Into Haaland.
37:03Half enough by Oli Pera.
37:11Rogan.
37:13Don't let's throw a blanket over the Napoli players in the middle there,
37:20mustering all that they can.
37:23Trying to dribble through, even for somebody with the elasticity of Doku.
37:27Bernardo Silva switched the play, trying to get across.
37:32Always dropped by Lankovic Savage, first sign of a mistake.
37:35Good work.
37:41Good work.
37:43Nice to have been Atola.
37:45As you say, being moved away from the left-hand side.
37:48Now they're digging into it, aren't they?
37:53Well, they're getting numbers back, they've defended their penalty box quite well so far.
37:56Well, they've been helped by Man City playing quite slowly at times.
38:01Yes, Kazanov again.
38:12I'd imagine that Pep Guardero might be thinking about replacing Kazanov.
38:22He's a very good defensive player, but he's going to be needed as an attacking full-back.
38:27I'm not sure that's where his qualities lie.
38:30There is just square and backwards again.
38:33It's in by Ruben Diaz.
38:35And Haaland can't connect.
38:38Bromatics Munez would be a candidate to play that right back.
38:41Absolutely.
38:42He's a midfield player that likes to attack.
38:44He's got that little bit of extra quality.
38:46This is a decent ball.
38:48Just can't get round the far post.
38:50Erling Haaland, Diaz bending it into a good area.
38:55O'Reilly again making that run into the box.
38:58We've seen O'Reilly score some goals with his head in FA Cup games.
39:07I think he's got five first-team goals now in a relatively short space of time.
39:19You know about Italian defenders when discipline and tenacity is required,
39:25they're usually very well equipped.
39:28And more tonight.
39:31Kazanov.
39:40Rodri.
39:42Voden making a run into the centre.
39:44Switched out to Bernardo Silva.
39:46Haaland going for it.
39:47And the shot was from Rodri.
39:55And the flag was up.
39:58Doku the player that I think was offside when it came back to him here.
40:01Bernardo Silva finding himself back out on this right-hand side.
40:05Clearance is a decent one.
40:06And then you can see as the goalkeeper makes a save, Doku is standing in an offside position.
40:11Good strike from Rodri.
40:14Yeah, if it had gone in, the flag wouldn't have gone up.
40:16But because it flew out to Doku, the side was applied correctly.
40:20We need him to have the game of his life tonight, you feel.
40:35He hasn't done too badly so far, has he?
40:37No, he's keeping out very experienced Alex Meret.
40:41When there's a chance for Anguisa to get McTominay in.
40:47Had Hoyland been in that position, he might have reached it.
40:49That's the qualities of Kuzanov, he's quick.
40:52His recovery run was good.
40:54McTominay had made a good run and Gieser tried to play him in.
40:57And he won the 50-50 challenge.
40:59They're not going to get much of the ball the likes of McTominay and Gieser,
41:04the bot gut, but they're going to have to work really hard both
41:07defensively and to try and find that bit of space to get on the ball at times.
41:10Plenty of long throws, about in all levels of competition these days.
41:25Certainly in these circumstances, in the go.
41:29A nice piece of distribution, the keeper.
41:53Offside would have kicked in, but City got the ball back.
41:59It's been more probing than really quick passing.
42:10As we'd expect, upping the possession stat, but it's still nil-nil on the scoreline.
42:16It's O'Reilly.
42:19Five minutes to go to half-time, Doku.
42:23O'Reilly.
42:23Not quite sure what Rinders was trying to do there, but it nearly came off for him.
42:30Yeah, this is all the iron in it, I think.
42:35He got it the other side of the first defender, but he just about recovered, didn't he?
42:39Book him up.
42:40No one else.
42:53All the keeper, reaches for it, drops for Rodri but not where he could shoot from.
42:58Zanof
43:01Rinders
43:04Donato Silva floats it in
43:10And it needed saving
43:13O'Reilly again the player in there
43:18He's a danger
43:19He certainly is
43:22Six foot four, six foot five
43:25And a good jumper
43:26It's always going to be a threat
43:28And the same sort of save by the same post
43:33Back by Foden again
43:34Goalkeeper's in trouble this time
43:35Comes out to Bernardo Silva
43:37Shout for handball against Hoyland
43:41And the referee might have to stop it here
43:44And Politano
43:48Some tumbling
43:50Well you said not so long ago
43:52He's got to have the game of his life
43:54Well he is at the moment
43:55There's Verdi Ault
43:57What a good save that was
43:58With his bottom hand
44:00He's made some outstanding saves already
44:05Malinkovic Savage
44:06He's got to see Politano quickly back on his feet
44:13He's a smiley kind of guy
44:15He's a smiley kind of guy
44:15Here we are
44:26half-time closing in and Manchester City closing in but not closing it out so to speak in terms
44:38of the result Audrey lets it run Guardiola has a try again and Lankovic Savic recognised quite
44:49early that it was passing wide and this time his agility wasn't pulled upon he doesn't quite get
44:54the bend he was looking for Guardiola had a little spill last season didn't he when he scored some
45:00goals he hadn't mentioned O'Reilly's five he's got 11 in Manchester City's first team and just under
45:08100 appearances it's a combination of playing as a centre-back or left-back whose goals have come
45:14from some defenders like to score don't they and go forward with purpose doesn't apply to all of
45:21them it certainly applies to Urosko Guardiola
45:26it's amazing sometimes we talk about centre-hal being a threat from set plays and then you look
45:33at their goal scoring record and realise they haven't scored for a couple of seasons
45:38it's fun well to ease it on to Guzanov another silver rapidly on the scene yes and Rodri grinders
45:55Doku no way through that time
45:58it's got a lot of work to do at half-time Antonio Conte's team have done well defensively so far
46:15in that hope of being the first manager to get Napa in a way when in England
46:19in the European competition seemed to have evaporated with the red card shown to Di Loretto on review
46:37again Hoyland's got to make it a little bit more difficult for Man City to get possession when
46:42that ball was played forward just get something in the way chest it back down into your midfield players
46:50get a foul off one of the centre-backs it's not happening for him at the moment
46:59we'd love to get their noses in front before half-time and
47:03clever attack from Reinders lovely run good balls well played by Foden
47:12just gets a fraction too much on it he's trying to play it into the far corner
47:17may have even thought the goalkeeper was starting to come out on him
47:24the jacket might be off at half-time when he
47:28Brian has been a late developer yeah profiling clues
47:33note that at 19 years old he was still working in a supermarket
47:38native netherlands
47:42he's become a super footballer that's for sure
47:52curse of the commentator
47:55here's Zonguisa
47:57his first season in Milan he pulled up too many trees his second season he did
48:03the first of the added four minutes underway
48:15getting some players forward Napoli here
48:17Lutano to keep his arms out of the way
48:23it's been a teller now McTominay by the near post
48:30and I'll tell her again trying to set up the vodka for that
48:33there is some space for city to counter-attack into and I think O'Reilly was aware of that
48:37there weren't any players on the same wavelength
48:42in the uh light blue of the evening
48:45well unfortunately for Napoli they set it up quite nicely down that right hand side and
48:50only Tarno was going to cross the board he realized that McTominay their best header of the ball
48:54coming from slightly deeper was out on the right hand side alongside him
48:58so he turned away from lacrosse
49:01and the move just teetered out
49:06roger
49:07the city is the cry that echoes around the master city stadium here
49:16doku
49:21ruben diaz winding up and faking us all by doing that here's bernardo silva
49:29clever turn he wants to play with his left foot oh and it would have been an own goal was it going in
