00:00I was definitely a loud mouth, and I would say things about Aja that maybe I should have cut to myself, but...
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at the most notable drag families that were rocked by major drama and fractured.
00:13Some briefly, and others for good.
00:15But we're not like in a drag family. I do not have a drag family. Maybe I hardly have drag friends.
00:21The House of Edwards.
00:23What does it take to be a member of the House of Edwards?
00:28How long do we got?
00:29Global All-Stars winner Alyssa Edwards has given the Drag Race fandom plenty to remember,
00:33but her most enduring legacy may be the queens she put in drag, who are now part of the House of Edwards.
00:39This includes Laganja Estranja, Plastique Tiara, Vivian Penae, and even Shangela, who has recently been mired in controversy.
00:47I would not be here today if it wasn't for the House of Edwards.
00:50Before Hey Queen, there was House of Edwards.
00:52They were the first people to truly change my narrative in the drag community.
00:57However, it hasn't been all rosy in the House of Edwards.
01:01After her run on Drag Race, Laganja had a falling out with Alyssa and chose to leave the family.
01:07The exact cause isn't quite clear, but many believe it had something to do with Gia Gunn.
01:11While Gia didn't begin her career under Alyssa, she was later adopted into the House,
01:16and her polarizing reputation is rumored to have caused a rift between Alyssa and Laganja.
01:21I will tell you, Gia, the House of Edwards were always open, you know, to expanding the empire.
01:27Yeah.
01:27Okay, you've kind of been like a long-lost cousin.
01:31Despite stepping away, Laganja emphasized that there was no animosity and expressed hope for a future reunion.
01:37That moment seemed to arrive in 2022 when she and Alyssa reunited briefly on Dancing with the Stars.
01:43She said, do I look like Sandra, do you? I said, you look like Randy, do you? Yeah.
01:49Well, she's trying to read her mother in the elevator, bitch.
01:52And we haven't even got to the game.
01:53In 2025, Laganja established her own drag family, the House of Walrus, with three drag daughters from Thailand,
02:01Sharon Needles and Aquaria.
02:03Sharon Needles may not have been the first to put Aquaria in drag,
02:06but over the years, Aquaria often credited Sharon as both her drag mentor and mother.
02:11Their biggest advice to me was expect the unexpected.
02:15My drag mom of sorts, Sharon Needles, always has her two cents to add to pretty much anything that I'm doing.
02:23Sharon has reportedly even said that she mailed Aquaria her first pair of heels
02:27and helped sneak her into clubs and bars back when she was still young.
02:31This would make Sharon and Aquaria the first mother-daughter duo to win their respective seasons of Drag Race.
02:36Is there anything you'd like to say?
02:39Sometimes in life, you're not always given a second chance,
02:42but if you do, take advantage of it and go out with a bang.
02:46However, their relationship soured in 2020 after a fan accused Sharon of physically assaulting them
02:52while they were underage and encouraging self-harm.
02:55In the wake of these allegations, Aquaria apparently faced intense scrutiny over her ties to Sharon.
03:00I have never claimed to, like, be a part of her drag house or anything like that.
03:04And particularly if we're talking about, like, the Drag Race canon,
03:08that has, like, never been uttered on the show at all, ever.
03:12She eventually responded with a series of tweets denouncing Sharon's alleged actions
03:17while voicing support for the victims.
03:19Since then, Aquaria has distanced herself from Sharon,
03:22later tweeting in 2022 that she never had a drag family
03:26and that Sharon was nothing more than a friend.
03:28You know, she got to see me succeed on Drag Race, which was really cool.
03:32Um, and, you know, we got to do some shows over the years.
03:38The House of Aja.
03:39This famous drag family has seen its fair share of drama splits and reunions.
03:44I'm from the House of Aja, who you might know from Season 9 and All Stars.
03:48The House of Aja is definitely known for drama.
03:50All we do is talk shit about everyone.
03:54Consisting of Drag Race star Aja and her drag daughters Candy Muse,
03:59Dahlia Sin, Janelle No. 5, and Momo Shade,
04:02The House of Aja was one of New York's most talked-about drag families
04:05until they dissolved in 2018.
04:07This stemmed from Aja's decision to step away from drag
04:10in order to focus on her career as a rapper and queer artist.
04:13I was having a lot of trouble sort of navigating, wanting to transition,
04:17and I wanted to see what was performance and what was me.
04:22The split was anything but friendly.
04:25Aja and especially Candy Muse clashed publicly,
04:28which further fueled Candy's determination to secure a spot on Drag Race
04:32and prove herself as an entertainer in her own right.
04:34I'm here to prove that I am more than just Candy Muse from the House of Aja.
04:40I can stand as an entertainer by my damn self.
04:43In the aftermath, Candy, Dahlia, and Janelle No. 5
04:45went on to form their own collective, The Dollhouse,
04:48and began performing together.
04:50However, after Aja decided to return to drag in 2021,
04:54she slowly began mending fences with her drag daughters.
04:57In 2024, they announced a reunion of The House of Aja
05:01and embarked on a successful global tour the following year.
05:04Let's talk about what we did wrong as children.
05:07We just all sat and apologized.
05:09No.
05:10You know, everyone was just woohooing.
05:11But it was nice, and it was healing.
05:13The Brooks family.
05:15Season 15 of RuPaul's Drag Race birthed another drag family
05:18when mistress Isabel Brooks decided to adopt fellow contestants Sugar and Spice
05:22as her drag daughters.
05:23I'm curious to see what the twins are going to bring
05:25because a lot of people audition year after year after year.
05:28So for y'all to come through, I feel like, bitch, I'd better impress.
05:32The twins had launched their drag careers online,
05:35and by the time they appeared on the show,
05:37had little to no experience performing in clubs or bars.
05:40Mistress made the adoption official with an Instagram post,
05:43where she also stated that Season 15's Miss Congeniality,
05:46Malaysia Baby Doll Fox, would serve as the twins' stepmother.
05:50All four later announced that they would be touring together
05:52and even appeared on Sugar and Spice's podcast, Two Brain Cells Left.
05:56And I think that's, like, how you start to build drag family.
05:59You find somebody that's similar to you,
06:01and you be like, oh, wow, like, that's amazing.
06:03Like, they actually think like me.
06:05They like the things that I like.
06:06However, by April 2024, the familial bonds had begun to fracture.
06:11Mistress announced on Twitter that she was disowning the twins,
06:14calling them, quote, trolls who had stopped speaking to her.
06:17Sugar and Spice, on the other hand,
06:19suggested the fallout had more to do with Mistress's intentions.
06:22It's given foolishness, given shenanigans and chaos.
06:25Which you know a lot about.
06:26Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:27That's why I loved it.
06:28And I was like, okay, they're in on it.
06:30So that's cute.
06:31They reportedly claimed she was less interested in being a drag mom
06:34and more focused on milking their relationship for content and followers.
06:38They then seemed to gravitate towards Malaysia,
06:40whom they considered more genuine.
06:42You gave amazing advice that day.
06:44You were really mother that day.
06:46And you told us just to work in.
06:47Arrietty and Irene the Alien.
06:49When Arrietty appeared on season 17,
06:52she proudly touted her connection to her drag mother, Irene the Alien,
06:56who was then mostly known as the Porkchop Queen from season 15.
06:59My drag mom is Irene the Alien.
07:01Whoa.
07:02Oh, really?
07:04Yes, yes.
07:05Do you plan on outlasting her?
07:08I don't like this game.
07:09However, by the time Irene returned for All-Stars 10,
07:13their relationship had already fallen apart.
07:15At a Roscoe's viewing party,
07:17Irene hinted at the rift when asked if she had helped Arrietty prepare for Drag Race.
07:21And we just had Arrietty on the season.
07:23Were you able to support them in getting ready for it?
07:25And were they able to do the same for you when getting ready for All-Stars?
07:28Oof.
07:28No comment.
07:29Okay, we're not talking about that one.
07:32She later elaborated on an episode of Mistress Isabel Brooks' YouTube show
07:35after she was pressed to give more details.
07:38I will say this.
07:39I never forgive someone who f***s with my money, my character, or my man.
07:46Arrietty's response sent the Drag Race world into a frenzy.
07:50In a series of tweets, she first claimed that their fallout was about money,
07:54but she then alleged that Irene had made racist remarks
07:57and engaged in inappropriate conduct with underage individuals.
08:00Her accusations were met with immediate backlash,
08:03especially since she provided no evidence to back them up.
08:06I am very sad that she chose to use that as her last words.
08:09Arrietty, sorry girl, we got a sashay away.
08:12Eventually, Arrietty deleted the tweets
08:14and released a lengthy statement apologizing for the allegations
08:17and vowing to work on herself.

08:33Maison Coulee
08:36Drag mothers disowning their daughters isn't new,
08:48but this was one of the first times the reverse happened.
08:51On September 4th, 2025,
08:53Kenzie the Dragon, Bambi Banks, and Chloe Park,
08:55the drag daughters of All Stars 5 winner Shea Coulee,
08:58announced on social media that they no longer wish to be part of Maison Coulee.
09:02I'm also pregnant too.
09:05Do you know who the baby daddy is?
09:07Okay, I shouldn't be saying this because I signed an NDA,
09:10but he's also Blac Chyna's baby daddy.
09:13Their posts appeared directed at Shea herself.
09:16Kenzie wrote that she was cleansing her orbit of narcissists and energy leeches,
09:20while Chloe hinted at, quote,
09:22Someone else in this situation who apparently lacked class.
09:25Shea has yet to address the fallout directly,
09:28instead sharing cryptic Instagram stories about cutting off dead weight and protecting her peace.
09:32There was a point where I didn't know if I would get over that hurt.
09:36But I've worked on myself a lot.
09:39Some speculated that the fall of the House of Coulee was a result of Shea never investing in her daughter's growth
09:44and only using them as props.
09:46Others poked fun at the drama, including Monet X Change,
09:49who joked on Twitter that she and her drag daughter, Corey King, were, quote,
09:53living their best lives.
09:54We can't wait to see how this turns out.
09:56I am going to put my most professional panties on right now,
10:00and we're going to get this job done.
10:03And I'll handle our personal stuff after this.
10:05What other chaotic drag family breakups did we miss?
10:08Let us know in the comments below.
10:09And, you know, I have very limited communication with Alyssa,
10:14but the communication we do have is positive.
