00:01We did go through quite a few dogs.
00:04We found you a match.
00:07She certainly ticks the fun box.
00:10It isn't just one chihuahua.
00:12It's a trio.
00:14Oh my God!
00:16She's five months old.
00:19It's a Jack Russell.
00:20His name is Mushy.
00:25In a quiet corner of the English countryside,
00:28there's a place for those looking for love.
00:31There is only one chance at life.
00:34And I'm missing the dog.
00:35Good girl.
00:36Here, a dedicated team match abandoned dogs.
00:39You've been through a rough time, haven't you?
00:41It's okay, buddy.
00:43With hopeful new owners.
00:45We can trot together. Let's trot!
00:47A lot of people come to us when they're at a crossroads.
00:51I lost five years of my memory
00:53and I don't think they will ever come back.
00:56and they're putting their trust in us.
01:01Last spring, we installed fixed rig cameras,
01:05additional support staff.
01:07Do you have any golden retrievers?
01:09We have 20.
01:10And a secluded meeting pen.
01:12Oh, nice.
01:13It's locked in here.
01:14To see how lives could be changed forever
01:17with the perfect match.
01:19Oh, my God!
01:20Oh!
01:21Oh!
01:22You've given him the zoomies.
01:23Some connections happen in a heartbeat.
01:26Hello, we're here.
01:29Are you trying to walk?
01:30Yeah.
01:31Are you trying to walk?
01:32But for some, it can take time.
01:37When people connect with a dog.
01:39You're very sexy.
01:40It's not through looks or a type.
01:42It's through a feeling.
01:46That first time the tip of the tail wags,
01:48you just get a little flutter of hope.
01:51I love them.
01:52You know they're a keeper.
01:59Look at Blue Boy's tongue.
02:02He's like that.
02:03Aww.
02:07I can find you a dog that fits the right size.
02:10Mm-hmm.
02:11You know like you have a flock of sheep?
02:12Yeah.
02:13What would a group of chihuahuas be called?
02:15I can tell you that it's a chihuahua.
02:18A chatter of chihuahuas.
02:19A chatter of chihuahuas.
02:21Only it isn't just one chihuahua.
02:24I mean you don't need much space for three chihuahuas, do you?
02:26No.
02:27Three?
02:29Three is a lot.
02:30Three is a lot.
02:31There must be someone out there who, like,
02:33three chihuahuas would be their dream.
02:39I like the name Dougie, maybe.
02:41Yeah, and me.
02:42Dougie.
02:43Pablo.
02:44Pablo.
02:45Yeah.
02:46You love that name.
02:47Hoping to add a new member to their family.
02:49As you say.
02:50Definitely.
02:51It's a girl though.
02:52A West Midlands couple, Simone and Drew.
02:55So we are here to look for a little doggy.
03:00Can't wait to take them on little walks and be able to get out in the canal by ours.
03:05Imagine just holding a little doggy.
03:08As long as he doesn't jump in the canal.
03:10More so, for me, I'm convincing Drew.
03:14As you do with everything.
03:16Yeah.
03:17Waited a long time for this, haven't we babe?
03:19Yeah.
03:20The next step.
03:21You know, you give him a little nudge and then hopefully we can get a dog.
03:26Hello.
03:27Hello.
03:28Hiya.
03:29Hello.
03:30Welcome to Woodgreed.
03:31Hello.
03:32How are you doing?
03:33Just excited.
03:34I can't wait.
03:35We moved in our house a year ago and I was like, as soon as you moved in, you want a dog.
03:37I can't just give in now.
03:38That's what it is.
03:39I'm mad enough.
03:40Yeah.
03:41I've been trying to convince Drew to have a dog and we've been looking, well I say we.
03:47You.
03:48I've been looking all the time.
03:50We've broken a dog.
03:51Yep.
03:52I love that.
03:53I'm the boss, that's why.
03:54I've actually tried to convince him that much that I've said we either have a baby or a
03:58dog and then that's it.
03:59I thought we'd go down the dog root first.
04:02Where do you want to go?
04:03I'll go here.
04:04Oh, I love your wheelchair.
04:06Pink.
04:07I've gone.
04:08You've gone all pink.
04:09I really love that.
04:10It's cool, innit?
04:11Nope.
04:12Dog.
04:13Dog.
04:14Dog.
04:15Doggies.
04:16Hello.
04:17Hi.
04:18Oh.
04:19Guess what?
04:20What?
04:21It's a no.
04:22Oh.
04:23Hello, my name's Nikki.
04:24I understand that you've got two dogs that you're looking to re-ho.
04:27Hello, my name's Nikki.
04:29I understand that you've got two dogs that you're looking to re-ho.
04:32I'm going to go.
04:33I'm going to go.
04:34I know I'm making the right decision.
04:35As hard as it is.
04:36I'm just not there for them now and it's not fair to them.
04:39Following a divorce, an upset owner has made the tough choice to bring in her dogs.
04:56Come on, Daisy.
04:57OK, I don't mean to...
04:58Hello.
04:59Is this Daisy?
05:00That's Daisy, yeah.
05:01Oh, hello.
05:02And George.
05:03They're both very beautiful though.
05:05So what age are they?
05:06Five.
05:07They were locked down puppies.
05:08Do you think they'll be kept together or do you think they'll go separate?
05:13They look quite bonded so we'll definitely keep them together initially.
05:14When you have more than one dog come into a green, the pool of re-homers becomes much smaller.
05:28Not many people are willing to take on more than one dog.
05:31Be good.
05:41Thank you for bringing them in.
05:42I know it's not easy for you.
05:44Have a safe journey home.
05:46Take care.
05:47I know it's a bit confusing, isn't it, guys?
05:51Well, I think Daisy's going to find us the hardest buddy.
05:54Come on in.
05:55Go go in here.
05:57This is your home.
05:59This way.
06:00Oh, it's OK.
06:01You're all right.
06:03To give a dog the best chance of being re-homed, we have to consider whether or not to split
06:10them.
06:11It's OK.
06:12At least you've got each other.
06:15We'll assess them, but at the moment they do seem quite bonded.
06:22Daisy keeps leaning on George.
06:29For me, it's more of a cuddly sort of companion.
06:34That's what we said, isn't it?
06:35So when you're having a loader, then you've got something there to focus on, isn't it?
06:38That's what we said.
06:39I wouldn't be doing the walking.
06:40Yeah, that's my job.
06:41We used to love walking.
06:42We walked miles, didn't we?
06:44Yeah, you used to go rambling, didn't we?
06:45Yeah.
06:46OK.
06:47So, I mean, Drew would push me and we'd buy a canal and it's flat, so that would be ideal,
06:50wouldn't it?
06:51We'd like to be able to walk the dog with me in the chair.
06:53Like, yeah, so it's something new, you know, because with my condition and stuff.
06:58OK.
06:59OK.
07:00No, that's good to know.
07:01And your condition, is it something that you're able just to talk about?
07:04Or I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable.
07:05Yeah, no, no, of course.
07:06Just so you understand.
07:07Yeah.
07:08And so it's called functional neurological disorder.
07:12So, limited movement.
07:14It's a software problem with the brain, so think of it like a computer.
07:18The hardware is absolutely fine, but the software is not firing properly to tell my body to move in the correct way.
07:24Slurred speech, I have a stammer.
07:26Ticks, like on your computer, it's glitching.
07:29I'm constantly glitching.
07:31I've only had it for four years, but I've been in the wheelchair for three years.
07:35Yeah, so it's just progressed over, over time, yeah.
07:39It sounds like life has changed a lot for you both in recent years.
07:42Yeah, it has, hasn't it?
07:43Yeah, massively.
07:44I'll never forget when Simone first started getting ill.
08:04I was thinking, like, a few days ago we was going on walks and everything seemed normal,
08:09and now you literally can't walk five, ten yards without your whole body,
08:14like, breaking down and shaking.
08:16And I couldn't believe, like, you're seeing a, like, kind of deteriorate like that.
08:20So, as you can see, I have seizures and a shake.
08:24And sometimes I worry about a dog if they might find that a little bit confusing.
08:29So, maybe a confident dog in that regard.
08:32OK, has it got to be good with other dogs or...?
08:35Well, obviously you've got your sister's two dogs, haven't you?
08:38Right.
08:39And then my Nan's dog.
08:40Yeah.
08:41Age range?
08:42Any age range.
08:43OK.
08:44What kind of size?
08:45Small to medium, I think.
08:46Yeah, mainly small for Simone.
08:47Yeah, that's it, really, like, yeah.
08:49OK.
08:54Hello, you two!
08:55Hello!
08:56Excited!
08:57Shall we get you out, see how you get on?
09:00Terriers George and Daisy have never been apart,
09:03so the staff at Wood Green want to test whether they can cope with being separated.
09:08What do I think?
09:09Come on then, guys.
09:10Let's see what's going on.
09:12Just like people, dogs can absolutely be best friends.
09:15They're just the cutest pair.
09:17Yeah.
09:18They're just precious, aren't they?
09:19They are.
09:20It's just so lovely to see.
09:22Shall we have a little walk, a bit separate, see how they feel about that?
09:26Splitting a pair of dogs with a really, really strong bond would be awful for them.
09:35OK, so George is off having a good explore.
09:40Good girl.
09:41Daisy is certainly looking for George.
09:43It's OK.
09:45He's a little bit more confident without her.
09:48But rehoming one dog is a lot easier than rehoming two.
09:53It's OK, we'll go find her.
09:55As we've got further away, he's yawned a few times and he's panting quite a bit now,
10:00which, for dogs, are signs of stress.
10:02It's just not the normal sort of peppy George he is.
10:05He normally strolls along quite happy, quite confident.
10:09And so we have to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages
10:12and do what's best for the dogs.
10:15Shall we go and see?
10:16Go and see what George has been up to?
10:17Where is she?
10:18There she is!
10:19There she is!
10:20Woo!
10:21There we go!
10:22Did you miss her?
10:25But this just is how they are all the time.
10:26They're just the best friends.
10:28We're back!
10:36OK, so...
10:38We've found a little boy.
10:40His name is Johnny.
10:43Oh, that's my uncle's name.
10:44That's so cute!
10:45Yeah!
10:46He's three years of age.
10:48He's good around dogs.
10:50However, he's come from an incredibly busy household.
10:54And because of that, he's been spending 21 hours a day in a cage.
11:00Yeah.
11:01Restricted from doing all the things that he wants to do.
11:04But he's playful.
11:05He's cheeky.
11:06And we just feel he's going to be a good little fit.
11:09So, would you like to meet Johnny?
11:11Yeah, definitely.
11:12Absolutely.
11:13Yay!
11:14Oh, I'm excited!
11:16Whoa!
11:17Johnny!
11:18Hello, Trouble.
11:19This is Johnny.
11:21He is a terrier cross and he's three years old.
11:24Johnny and a cheeky monkey!
11:26A cheeky monkey!
11:28Aren't you?
11:29Johnny, let's go!
11:31Johnny!
11:32Even though he comes across as quite confident,
11:34Johnny hasn't seen a lot in his life.
11:37He was kept in a crate for a lot of the day,
11:40so he wasn't able to do the normal playing
11:44and exploring that puppies would normally do.
11:48Let's go!
11:49Let's go!
11:50Johnny!
11:51Come on, buddy!
11:52What's he selling?
11:53Johnny!
11:54Yeah!
11:55Johnny needs someone who's going to look past where he's at now
11:58and see the kind of dog that he can be in the future.
12:02Yeah!
12:03Yeah!
12:04Yeah!
12:05Good boy!
12:06Because if you have that bond,
12:08I think Johnny will be a great companion.
12:13I just hope he's not too nervous.
12:15Yeah.
12:16Because of my tremors or...
12:18Oh, we'll see how we get on.
12:19Yeah.
12:20Yeah.
12:21I like being locked away.
12:23Literally, it's like me.
12:24My life story.
12:25Yeah.
12:30Looking back at how I was and how I looked,
12:33it does upset me, in a way,
12:36because of how my body's changed, how I am,
12:38but not being able to work has been really hard.
12:41I just worry that I can't interact with him.
12:44What do you mean?
12:45Put it in my chair.
12:46So, this is me when I was a personal trainer
12:49at my peak fitness.
12:52And I got my first T-shirt with personal trainer on it,
12:55and I was really happy and excited for that.
12:59I don't think I've felt this nervous
13:01without any of my jobs or anything.
13:03Really?
13:04Yeah.
13:05He's right.
13:06Well done, Johnny.
13:07Let's just hope he likes us.
13:10I need that purpose,
13:13and to focus on something other than myself.
13:17You're raring to go.
13:19Raring.
13:20So, that's why I want a little dog.
13:23Go on then, love you.
13:26Oh, yeah.
13:27Oh, my gosh.
13:28Oh, my gosh.
13:29Oh, my gosh.
13:30Oh, God.
13:33Oh, my gosh.
13:34Hello.
13:35Oh, look at him.
13:37Hello.
13:38Hello.
13:39Nice to meet you.
13:40I'm Katie.
13:41Hi, Katie.
13:42This lovely little man is Johnny.
13:43Oh, my gosh.
13:45Enjoy.
13:46Thank you so much.
13:47See you, Katie.
13:50He's classy, no?
13:51Yeah, he's beautiful.
13:54Hello, pal.
13:56Hello, mate.
13:58Oh!
14:00He loves you.
14:02I think Johnny loves Drew a bit too much.
14:05Yeah.
14:06He's trying to hump you.
14:07You're trying to hump me, Johnny.
14:08That is a hump.
14:12What are you trying to do, little man?
14:14He's playful, isn't he?
14:19Sit down.
14:21How's he then?
14:22He's a little bit of pink.
14:23Down, Johnny.
14:25He really loves you.
14:27Who don't?
14:28Nice and tall.
14:39Keen to make a good impression on her first dog, 12-year-old Jenna.
14:44Hello.
14:45Hello, hello.
14:46Hiya, how are you?
14:47Hi.
14:48Hello, hello.
14:49Nice to meet you.
14:50Nice to meet you too.
14:51I'm Helen.
14:52I'm Angel.
14:53Hi.
14:54And I'm Jenna.
14:55Jenna!
14:56Jenna!
14:57You look very excited, Jenna.
14:58I am.
15:00Can you tell?
15:01So excited that I even wore my dog socks.
15:03Oh!
15:04They're amazing.
15:05And they're blue.
15:06I need some of those in my life.
15:07Are you a bit dog crazy?
15:08Yes.
15:09In what way?
15:10The first time I went to the library in London, I brought maybe five books home.
15:14Every single one was about dogs.
15:16Wow.
15:17Dog diary.
15:18So, right at the front here, it says King Charles Cavalier.
15:23You wanted a King Charles Spaniel when you were five.
15:26It teaches you how to look after dogs as well.
15:29There's a lot of things that I've learnt from reading my dog books.
15:33Dogs can only see certain colours.
15:36Dogs can only really see the colours blue and yellow, and they can't see red and green at all.
15:41Is that why?
15:42Because I noticed you had a yellow T-shirt on.
15:43Yes.
15:44That's why I'm there.
15:45You've got a carefully selected outfit.
15:47Yes.
15:48You really are dog obsessed, aren't you?
15:50You really are.
15:51That's amazing.
15:53And are you happy if the dog needed a bit of training?
15:56Yes.
15:57Yeah, I think so.
15:58I've got a book about that.
15:59Have you?
16:00Strangely.
16:01Of course you do.
16:02I think the most important thing for us is that it's active.
16:05We've got a big old moat that we can run around in and play in.
16:09There's a lot of...
16:10Plenty of exercise areas.
16:11Lots of ground.
16:12I was going to ask about the garden.
16:13So if we are lucky enough to get a doggy, it's going to come and live in the Royal Palace with us as well.
16:18We'd say something like about 18 acres.
16:21And it's fenced.
16:22Well, it's walled.
16:23What do you do?
16:24What are your jobs?
16:25What do you do?
16:26So we're the guardians at the Tower of London.
16:27I'm a beef eater.
16:28Oh, wow.
16:29And we live in the Tower as well.
16:31So that's our state ceremonials that we wear.
16:34So the first time that I actually wore my ceremonials was on the coronation of King Charles III.
16:40So a very special day for me.
16:42The little bit that sticks out there, that's our kitchen.
16:44I mean, that's amazing.
16:46I'm gobsmacked.
16:48About 100 people live in the Tower.
16:50There's about 20 dogs.
16:52So you want a dog.
16:53It's going to be good with other dogs.
16:54OK.
16:55It's going to be good with Zenna.
16:56That's the most important thing for us, I think, on the dog.
17:00Oh, do you want to...?
17:01Hello.
17:02Do you want to see if it comes to you?
17:03Yeah.
17:04It's just...
17:05It probably might be the chair, hadn't it?
17:07A bit like...
17:08You think?
17:09Yeah.
17:10What's this?
17:11What's this?
17:12Not me, little man.
17:13Hello.
17:14What's this?
17:17Johnny!
17:18Simone seems to understand why he isn't interacting with them so much now,
17:23but I think it is really hard for Simone to not take it personally.
17:29Johnny!
17:32I was such a free person.
17:34I would travel all the time.
17:36And at the moment, I don't really get out of the house.
17:42Johnny!
17:43Hopefully he'll come.
17:45Do you want to try and wheel him to it?
17:47Er...
17:48I don't know.
17:49Going from being really fit, like, ultra-fit and healthy,
17:53to now, it's...
17:55It's just hard to see people you love look at you differently.
17:59He's a little bit scared of the chair.
18:01Oh, he is as well.
18:03Oh, he's in there.
18:04It's OK, mate.
18:06You go first.
18:07Oh!
18:08Oh!
18:09Yes!
18:10I thought as much.
18:11Oh!
18:12Hello!
18:13Johnny!
18:14Oh, he's scared, isn't he?
18:16Johnny!
18:19It's OK, come here!
18:21Hello!
18:25It does make you question, like, one, why me, or those big feelings,
18:28but I think it makes you realise that, actually,
18:31there's things that I thought was important.
18:33They're really not.
18:34They don't matter.
18:36Come here!
18:37Hello, mate!
18:39Hi, darling!
18:40It's OK, this is just a wheelchair.
18:43Hi, Ben!
18:45Oh!
18:46This is nice.
18:47Hi, baby!
18:49Hello, old man!
18:50Oh!
18:51He's coming to me!
18:52He just needed a bit of gentle encouragement.
18:57There we go.
19:01Oh!
19:02I know!
19:03He turned into his little tail wagging.
19:05Oh, good God, he's beautiful.
19:07I just want to make it dance.
19:14His head's nodding.
19:15Chihuahua!
19:16Chihuahua!
19:17Chihuahua!
19:18I don't think they appreciate our singing.
19:23Sorry, guys.
19:24Is it a no?
19:26We've got Simon, Louie and Sharon.
19:30Oh, my gosh.
19:34Just relax.
19:35Just relax.
19:37I'm very hyper.
19:38I don't know what you like.
19:40I think the most important thing for them
19:42is to find a dog that gets on with other dogs
19:44because there's 20 other dogs
19:46within the Tower of London community.
19:48What about a royal dog?
19:50What about a bulldog?
19:51Oh, we've got Queen.
19:59Queen would fit in very well there.
20:01And she's really nice with other dogs.
20:02She is good with other dogs.
20:03She's really friendly with people.
20:04Yeah.
20:05She's a good all-rounder, isn't she?
20:06She is.
20:09But I think they really want something that's quite, like,
20:11spunky and active and playful.
20:13OK.
20:14And Queen, although she loves her walks,
20:16she's a bit of a couch potato, isn't she?
20:17Yeah.
20:18Oh, bless her.
20:19Do you think they might take on two dogs?
20:20Maybe, if they were the right pair.
20:29They've got enough love for two dogs, haven't they?
20:32Mm-hm.
20:33They've got enough land.
20:34Especially Jenna.
20:35They've got enough land for two dogs.
20:36I'm just thinking about Daisy and George, because they're a cute pair, aren't they?
20:41They really are.
20:46But just personality-wise, George is the sort of confident, good all-rounder.
20:51Daisy, very active as well, but needs some confidence building.
20:58OK.
20:59OK.
21:00OK.
21:01Good girl.
21:02Good girl.
21:03But she's been doing some training on-site and been doing really well.
21:07Daisy!
21:08And if Jenna is interested, like you say, in training,
21:12and we've put the groundwork in, all she's got to do is continue it.
21:16OK, look.
21:19You what?
21:20I can hear them.
21:22I think they're a lovely match for them.
21:24I'm just a bit nervous as to what they'll think of a pair of dogs.
21:29Surprise!
21:30Do you need to meditate, Jenna?
21:33I don't need to meditate, I need to talk.
21:41Hello.
21:42Hello.
21:43Hello.
21:44How are you?
21:45How are you doing?
21:46All good.
21:47Still excited, Jenna?
21:49How do you feel...
21:51You're looking at me.
21:54If we had...
21:56two dogs.
22:01A boy and a girl.
22:04They came in as a pair and we'd really like to see them leave as a pair.
22:14How are you feeling so far?
22:17Right.
22:18Jenna still feels a bit, you know?
22:20Like, two for the price of one.
22:21Woo-hoo!
22:23How are you feeling about two dogs, Karen?
22:27Yeah.
22:28OK.
22:29So, one of the dogs, George.
22:31King George.
22:32George.
22:33Good, royal name.
22:34Good name.
22:35Yeah, definitely.
22:36What's George?
22:37George is like a Westy cross.
22:39Looks like a little teddy bear.
22:40He looks like a little teddy bear.
22:41He...
22:42You could put him in any situation and he would just be like,
22:44yeah, sure.
22:45Yeah.
22:46Daisy, um, she's down as a Jack Russell cross with a poodle.
22:50Um...
22:52She is also really, really sweet, but she's just a little bit more timid.
22:56So, she will need a bit of training and socialisation.
22:59Her friend George obviously helps her a lot.
23:02So, would you like to meet George?
23:04Yes.
23:05All right, come on then.
23:07Ooh, the future awaits you.
23:08Let's do it.
23:09Oh, my gosh.
23:10Yeah.
23:11Fingers crossed.
23:12Good luck.
23:13Hey, come on.
23:20Oh, look at the trees.
23:23Nature lover Ruth is looking for a furry friend to share in her wild adventures.
23:29Bonjour, hello.
23:31Hello.
23:32How are we doing?
23:33Oh, we're all right.
23:34We're very excited.
23:35So, come single lady, have we?
23:37Yes.
23:38Strong, independent.
23:39Yes.
23:40Like me own company.
23:41Do you?
23:42Yeah.
23:43Like living on me own now.
23:44I swim by myself.
23:45I go sea swimming every morning.
23:48In me cosy or not.
23:50Are you winding me up?
23:51No.
23:52No.
23:53This is a photo of me skinny dipping.
23:55And there's always that danger of somebody driving down.
24:00You go skinny dipping in winter when it's colder?
24:02Oh, definitely.
24:03Oh, definitely.
24:04Oh, definitely.
24:05Yeah.
24:06We know all the gentleman dog walkers.
24:07And in fact, last week, one of them shouted from round the corner,
24:10Are you all decent?
24:12But it's just amazing to swim naked.
24:16Especially when he's 65.
24:19Good girl.
24:20Good boy.
24:21Here we go.
24:23Straight back.
24:25Oh, hello, Jen.
24:27Here we go, darling.
24:28Oh, look at you.
24:29Hello.
24:30Hello.
24:31Hello.
24:32Oh, they're so cute.
24:33Hello.
24:34Hello.
24:35Oh, they're so cute.
24:36Hello.
24:37Okay, this is George and Daisy.
24:39Look at George.
24:40He's just desperate to go over.
24:43They absolutely love affection and cuddles.
24:46Hello.
24:47Hi.
24:48Oh, look, she's gone up.
24:49Oh!
24:50I'll leave you guys to it.
24:53How are you, mate?
24:54How are you?
24:55How are you?
24:56Well done, Daisy.
24:57You coming up?
24:58I want to get her to come up.
24:59Hi.
25:00Can you come up?
25:01Here you go.
25:02She can.
25:03Hello.
25:04Hello, mate.
25:05Wow.
25:06Yeah.
25:07Oh, this went a lot better than I thought it was going to go.
25:10I thought Daisy would sit back and not go anywhere near them
25:12for the first few minutes.
25:13It wasn't too much problem there getting them to come and say hi,
25:16gents, was it?
25:17No.
25:18Hey, George.
25:19How are you?
25:22You're getting kisses.
25:26Are they fighting over you?
25:27Daisy's like, no, hang on a minute.
25:28She's with me.
25:31Oh.
25:32Oh.
25:33What was that?
25:37Well, the honeymoon's over.
25:38And they need to see this side in their dogs.
25:40They do.
25:41They do.
25:42Tenacious Terriers.
25:47Although we can't have this when the king's walking around.
25:49Woo-hoo-hoo!
25:50Hey!
25:59This is the thing with a pair of dogs as well.
26:00If one does kick off at something or reacts to something,
26:04the other one will generally join in.
26:06Yeah.
26:07Yeah.
26:08And then you've got two doing that.
26:09Yeah.
26:10Yeah.
26:15I wonder if the reality of two will be sinking in.
26:20Yes.
26:21We've only got one food bowl.
26:25Double the food, double the vet costs, double the insurance.
26:29You know, if you're really thinking about it with your head and not your heart,
26:32it is more expensive and it is double the commitment.
26:36Hi.
26:37You're very affectionate.
26:39Right.
26:40On your mouth.
26:41What do you think Nev's thinking?
26:44I think he's flitting between this is great and, oh, God, it's two.
26:51Yeah.
26:52Shall we go play?
26:54Let's go play.
26:55Let's go play.
27:00Obviously, Jenna's really happy.
27:01She's a kid in the sweet shop.
27:03It's hard to read, Mum.
27:05Hello, hello.
27:07How are you?
27:08How are you, mate?
27:10Hey, Daisy.
27:12She has withdrawn a bit, hasn't she?
27:15Hmm.
27:16Aww.
27:17Dad.
27:20Love it.
27:22Hello.
27:23Hiya.
27:24Hi.
27:25Who's that?
27:26Daisy, who's that?
27:27Hi.
27:28Who's that?
27:29Hi.
27:30How's it going?
27:31Let's get your leads on, then.
27:32Come on in.
27:33Go and put your leads on.
27:34Let's go, let's go.
27:35Put your leads on.
27:36One.
27:37Maybe she keeps her cards very close to her chest.
27:39Mmm.
27:40And when there's children involved, you perhaps don't want to give a definite answer, so...
27:45Mmm.
27:46They still have to have that conversation, don't they?
27:48The parents have got to, away from her almost, just say, right, is this really what we want?
27:54Yeah.
27:55Down the steps, then.
27:56Down the steps.
27:57Down the steps.
27:58Here you go, mate.
27:59Hey.
28:00Hey, Daisy.
28:01Let's go.
28:02Hello.
28:03Hello.
28:04Hello.
28:05Hello.
28:06Hello.
28:07Nice to see you.
28:08Nice to see you.
28:09I'm Lizzie.
28:10I'm Lenny.
28:11Hiya, Lenny.
28:12I'm Ruth.
28:13Ruth.
28:14Yes.
28:15Wood Green.
28:16Why are you a rescue dog?
28:17Because I just think there's so many dogs.
28:20I don't want to go out and buy a puppy.
28:23And I just think there is a dog somewhere, hopefully a Wood Green, that needs a new life,
28:32needs another chance at life.
28:34So let's talk about the dog, then.
28:36Has to be cat friendly.
28:38I've got three cats.
28:39I've got Babushka, Sylvia and Penelope.
28:41Yeah.
28:42So that's been my only worry.
28:44OK.
28:45Hopefully a swimming dog as well.
28:47Oh.
28:48I see swim every morning.
28:49Good for you.
28:50Yeah.
28:51If it didn't like swimming but it could sit on the beach and watch you, would that be OK?
28:55That's fair enough.
28:56Yeah.
28:57Would you mind if a dog was a little bit nervous or had sort of training needs at all?
29:00Don't care how many legs it's got, really.
29:02OK.
29:03Anything.
29:04Yeah.
29:05Anything.
29:06Whether it's old, whether it's new, whether it's got, I don't know, a lint, whatever.
29:15Is it just you in the home?
29:17Just a little old me, live alone.
29:18Yeah.
29:19I moved to Anglesey two years ago.
29:20Anglesey?
29:21Yes.
29:22Beautiful part of the country.
29:24I moved there to live the dream, really.
29:26Changed my life, lived the dream.
29:28Always went there as kids.
29:31Because we all went when we were younger, I think it was just our safe.
29:35Beautiful place.
29:36And it's the best move I ever made.
29:38I've gone from, from Lancashire where I got up.
29:42I went to work.
29:43I went home.
29:44I drank.
29:45Yeah.
29:46Yeah.
29:47Oh, right.
29:48OK.
29:49Yeah.
29:50No more.
29:51Something clicked.
29:52And yeah, here I am.
29:54Never looked back.
29:55So living, and I wouldn't be in Anglesey if I still drank.
29:58And I want to give a dog the same kind of second chance at a new life that I've been,
30:07you know, brave enough to do.
30:09Aw.
30:10Are you OK?
30:11Yeah.
30:12Yeah.
30:13It's your smile for me.
30:14Hopeful.
30:15They're good at what they do.
30:16So.
30:17Yeah.
30:18Fingers crossed.
30:19Yeah.
30:20No.
30:21She's quite open-minded, really.
30:22But the sticking point is going to be cats.
30:24Three cats.
30:25And swim.
30:26Swim.
30:27She does sea swimming.
30:28And three cats as well.
30:30You just think, am I too demanding?
30:31No.
30:32No.
30:33Listen, it's got to be right.
30:34It has got to be right.
30:35End of the day, I like it.
30:36Yeah.
30:37I don't want to disappoint a dog.
30:38So we might need to look at small dogs that aren't terrier types.
30:42Oh, no.
30:43I don't want to disappoint a dog.
30:45I don't want to disappoint a dog.
30:47So we might need to look at small dogs that aren't terrier types.
30:54Oh, no.
30:56In which case, we have that little Bailey.
30:59Bailey.
31:00He's only just over a year.
31:01And Bailey has actually lived with cats before.
31:04Amazing.
31:05Yeah.
31:06And he's had no issues.
31:07He is a bit of a nervous chap, though.
31:10As long as it gets on with the cats, she's pretty open to taking on something that he's
31:15training or is a little bit nervous.
31:17Can he swim?
31:18Is he a swimmer?
31:19I don't think he's probably ever seen water.
31:21I'm about to contact HR for this.
31:24This is inappropriate.
31:25Good boy, Bailey.
31:26This way.
31:27Bailey is a very sweet boy, but he's lived quite a sheltered life.
31:34That's it, Bailey.
31:35Good shake.
31:36Good job.
31:37He was brought in to us due to the ill health of his owner.
31:44He was born and raised pretty much in that house.
31:48Good boy.
31:49The only outdoor experience he's had is in his garden.
31:53And the only experience he's had with people is his owners.
31:56That's it.
31:57Come on, buddy.
31:58When Bailey first come on site, he just looked really, really scared, because everything
32:07was a brand new experience for him.
32:09If someone is willing to put in the time with Bailey and give him the chance, they will
32:17be rewarded with such a wonderful, loving companion.
32:24I really hope that he will find someone who will teach him that there's more to life than fear.
32:32Bailey needs a new start.
32:35He really does.
32:36He is your classic rescue.
32:38Yeah.
32:39Very in need of someone to take him under their wing.
32:43Oh, excited.
32:44I'm excited for you.
32:49Not as excited as me.
32:52I've had a good look through quite a number of dogs.
32:55But as you can imagine, the cat situation made it difficult.
33:00Yeah, it's the issue.
33:01So, we have found you a dog.
33:03Oh, we will.
33:05So, he's a little boy.
33:07OK.
33:08His name's Bailey.
33:10Right.
33:11And he's just over a year old.
33:13So, little Bailey is very nervous.
33:18OK.
33:19So, he's never, until he came here, he'd never been out of the house.
33:23Oh.
33:24And his little world has just massively expanded.
33:27Yeah.
33:28Change of life.
33:29Yeah.
33:30He's looking for somebody to take care of him.
33:33Swimming.
33:34Obviously, we don't know.
33:35Yeah.
33:36But that's something you could introduce him to.
33:38Yeah.
33:39He's really good.
33:40But, scared of life.
33:42Yeah.
33:43He needs somebody to...
33:44So was I.
33:45So was I.
33:46For so long.
33:47I'll show him.
33:48Oh, so exciting.
33:49I never thought of myself as an alcoholic.
34:00Oh.
34:01But I was.
34:02It just creeps up on you.
34:16I'd get home from work and I would literally drink the wine, go to bed, get up the next morning, repeat.
34:26I'll be fine.
34:27I'll be fine.
34:28I'll be fine.
34:30I didn't go places.
34:32I missed family gatherings that I should have gone to.
34:39You become aware that you're planning your social life.
34:43Everything is being planned around being alone and having that drink.
34:48Oh, come on, little Bailey.
34:58Whilst it seems scary at first, I promise, if you're brave, things will work out.
35:07Now, from making the decision to stop, I've changed my life round.
35:13You just have to pull up your trousers and be good to go.
35:25I'm now in a position, in a place where I would like to give a dog a second chance.
35:32Hopefully.
35:38Oh, hello.
35:40Hello.
35:41Hi.
35:42Hi.
35:44Hi.
35:45I'm Chloe and this little boy here is Bailey.
35:48Hello, Bailey.
35:49I'll let him off leave.
35:50He might be a little bit apprehensive at first.
35:52He is quite a nervous boy.
35:53It takes him a little bit of time to get used to you.
35:55But once he is, he is super sweet.
35:58He really loves food, so feel free to give him plenty of treats.
36:02I've got treats in my pocket.
36:03He might just come and have a little explore.
36:04Hello, Bailey.
36:05Hello, Bailey.
36:06Shall I come down to you?
36:07That's very brave.
36:08Shall I come down to you?
36:09He's come down to each day.
36:10His daily manifestation, Bailey the Brave.
36:11We're working on it.
36:12Oh, Bailey.
36:13Oh, he's interesting.
36:14Yeah, he's being really brave.
36:15He's interesting.
36:16What's this?
36:17What's this?
36:18Oh, don't leave me.
36:19It's OK.
36:20It's OK.
36:21It's OK.
36:22It's OK.
36:23It's OK.
36:24I love that Ruth's just taken herself down onto the floor at his level.
36:40Are you going to come for a trick?
36:42She'll come back.
36:43Don't worry.
36:44She'll come back, Bailey.
36:45She will come back.
36:46Come back.
36:47Don't worry.
36:48She'll come back, Bailey.
36:49She will come back.
36:52Come on.
36:54He's thinking, where on earth am I?
36:57Oh, OK.
36:58Who is this person?
36:59Oh, his little teeth.
37:01Where's my handler gone?
37:04Come on.
37:06Come on, Sarah.
37:08Come on.
37:10No, she's not.
37:16He's a good boy.
37:17Come on, Bailey.
37:19Are you going to come and see what I've got?
37:22Come and see what I've got?
37:25No.
37:28Come on, Bailey.
37:31Come on.
37:33She looks worried.
37:34Yeah.
37:35Maybe she was expecting a little bit more from him.
37:37from him.
37:39Oh, Bailey.
37:42Oh, Bailey.
37:45Come on, darling.
37:48On the 27th of March 2022, which was Mother's Day,
37:52I came home from a Mother's Day meal at my youngest daughter's.
37:56Do you want a treat, Bailey?
37:59That night, I had a second bottle.
38:02Oh, no.
38:04I missed work the next day.
38:07Come on.
38:09Are you going to come and say hello?
38:12I sat looking in the mirror in the morning.
38:15Oh!
38:17At an over-the-hill woman that wasn't me.
38:21Are you going to come or not?
38:24Bailey!
38:26That was the day that I just thought it was no one ever for me
38:30and I had to stop drinking.
38:34Can I come and say hello to you slowly?
38:36I'll only come slowly.
38:39The first few days are the hardest.
38:41I'll come and sit next to Bailey.
38:45Because that's when it's so easy to think,
38:48I'll start tomorrow.
38:50Are you just happy to sit there?
38:52I'll go and sit over here and see if you come.
38:55Once you've done two or three weekends...
39:01Oh, he's coming.
39:04..you then begin to think, I'm winning.
39:07Tiny steps.
39:22Tiny steps.
39:24You don't need to be frightened of me.
39:28There we go.
39:29OK.
39:30OK.
39:31OK.
39:32I can wait.
39:33I can wait.
39:34I feel like I've turned my life round with decisions
39:37and the move to Angleset and I just think, I hope that I can give a dog a home and turn its life round as well.
39:58Hiya.
39:59You're doing all the right things.
40:00I know.
40:01You are doing all the right things.
40:02I'm just going to put this on Bob Bob.
40:03I know.
40:04I know.
40:05He's so scared of everything, isn't he?
40:06He's really, really good shape.
40:07Quite a sensitive boy.
40:08But we're wagging.
40:09Yeah.
40:10This is what we get to, yes, this is what we get to, isn't it?
40:13It just takes a little bit of time but then we get to this point.
40:29Oh, it's so nice to see him happy.
40:32This is what she needs to see.
40:34He did have a little sniff of her.
40:37He did.
40:38Let's have a look in here.
40:40Shall we see?
40:41No, I don't want a treat.
40:43I don't want a treat.
40:44I want that lady.
40:46Here we go.
40:47Come on.
40:50Good boy.
40:51Good boy, Bailey.
40:53He just took a treat.
40:55Oh, was that the first treat?
40:57Yeah, yeah, yeah.
40:58Do you want another one?
40:59Yes.
41:01Yummy.
41:03Good boy.
41:05Oh!
41:08You want another one?
41:09Oh, good boy, Bailey.
41:12Good boy.
41:14There's a lot to think about, taking a dog.
41:16There's a lot of responsibility, especially with a dog like Bailey.
41:19That's a good boy.
41:20What's going through your mind right now?
41:22How are you feeling?
41:23I don't know.
41:24It's weird because normally you approach a dog and it's exceedingly happy to see you.
41:32You want to be liked straight away, but it just made it more rewarding when he did come to me.
41:39Well, I'm thinking we're at this stage now where we could maybe try a walk.
41:43A walk, yeah.
41:44Now that he's looking a bit more confident in himself.
41:46He's only one, so he needs his life to begin.
41:49He needs to find out what a dog's life is.
41:53Stop for a walk.
41:54That's it.
41:55Good boy.
41:56Off you go already.
41:57Good boy.
41:58Yay!
42:00Yay!
42:01We'll go up this way.
42:02So yeah, he's got a lot to learn and I've got to go away, think about it and think if we fit.
42:08Well done Bailey.
42:12Dear friends, I've decided that we need a plan B, that we need to reach out.
42:20We have three adorable little chihuahuas that are in need of a retirement home.
42:38When they told us they had two dogs for us, we were a bit surprised.
42:54Because Nev and Jenna had taken a while to convince me to have a dog.
43:01When we were on our way home, I was like, please can we get them?
43:04Please, please, please, please.
43:05There was, you know, lots of things to consider as we said, but in the end, we went for it.
43:13Daisy, George.
43:15Come on then.
43:16Have we come?
43:17Hello you.
43:18Come on then.
43:19Have we come?
43:20Here we go.
43:21And they're just gorgeous together, the two of them.
43:24So it was an easy decision.
43:26Let's go Daisy.
43:27I love looking down into the moat and seeing Nev and Jenna playing there with the dogs.
43:33Having a dog, it's all it's cracked up to be and more. It's the best.
43:40As soon as Johnny came for the door, I was like, we'll have him.
43:50He was a little cheeky chappy, wasn't he? Very playful, bolsterous.
43:55But after meeting Johnny, unfortunately my nan passed away and basically my nan's dog was homeless.
44:02So another dog needed our help and another dog needed our love.
44:07So we have rehomed a dog and her name is...
44:11Nell.
44:12Nell.
44:13Nell.
44:14Nell.
44:15Hello.
44:17Hello.
44:18Yay.
44:19Good girl.
44:20The FND can really affect your mental health.
44:24And now, absolutely, Nell has given me purpose and reason to, like, get out of bed.
44:29Good girl.
44:30We're getting out more than on walks on the canal.
44:33Like you said, you've got something to be focused on instead of just focusing on your illness.
44:38Up.
44:39Good girl.
44:41Even if I'm having a bad day, she'll come to me.
44:43It's what she knows.
44:44We're going to chill out today and I'm going to look after you.
44:47Let's have a nap.
44:48And that's, like, amazing.
44:50I dreamt of having a dog like that.
44:52I thought I'd go into the pen and the door would open and this little dog would come skipping towards me.
45:05But despite my best efforts, he just would not connect at all.
45:11But then, I don't like being defeated.
45:15The more I thought about it, the more I thought.
45:19He is the little dog that I would love to share my life with.
45:24Come on, Barry.
45:26Come on.
45:30I just thought Bailey didn't suit him.
45:32So, yeah, he became Barry White because he's just a Barry.
45:40You can't say that's not joyful.
45:43Say hi, Barry.
45:44I'm sorry.
45:47Took him a few days to settle in and find his place with the cat.
45:51But he's happy and everywhere I go, he goes.
45:55You like coming to the beach.
45:57Wait till you can come in and swim with Mum.
46:02We do little old kisses, don't we?
46:04Ah!
46:17I come to see you for two hours.
46:19Two hours?
46:20Yeah.
46:22Come there.
46:23That's a good doggy, aren't you?
46:25I have to remember all your names, won't I?
46:27Thanks lovely.
46:28Bye-bye.
46:29Bye.
46:30Bye.
46:32Bye.
46:34Bye.
46:51Bye.
46:53Bye.
46:53Bye.
46:55Bye.
