KANGAROO is a heart-warming family comedy about ex TV personality, Chris Masterman, who becomes stranded in an Outback town outside Alice Springs. There, he teams up with 12-year-old Indigenous girl Charlie. The pair form an unlikely friendship and work together to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned joeys in the remote but stunning Outback community - an endeavor that proves to be life-changing for them both. KANGAROO is inspired by the life of Chris 'Brolga' Barns, founder of The Kangaroo Sanctuary, Alice Springs.

00:00I mean, whenever you're ready.
00:04The biggest challenge I had in this film was knowing when to say cut on the joeys.
00:09All the joeys were absolutely real, there was no visual effects, there was no trickery there, and I think it feels natural.
00:16He loves his bottle of milk. His bottle of milk's his favourite.
00:19The film is loosely inspired by the story of Chris Broga, who runs the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs and has done for quite some time.
00:27Broga, he's my best friend now.
00:30So what makes you think you're the right person for the job?
00:36I have no life and I'm completely broke.
00:38Welcome aboard.
00:40Ryan calls a good match because he's in his mid-30s.
00:42That was the age when I started rescuing kangaroos in the outback.
00:47But I must admit, he's probably a bit better looking than me.
00:50Can you take us for a cruise?
00:51Cruise? No. Can you not touch it, please? Over there, over there.
00:54For me, it's always been about a man whose identity is wrapped up in commercialism and materialism.
01:02He sort of has this accidental meeting with this young Aboriginal girl and then becomes a part of her family and her community.
01:12You'd never know. This is Lily's first film, Who Plays Charlie?
01:15And I'm just being stunned at the emotional range and the level of performance that she's delivered.
01:21You can't send them away. You save them. That's what you do. You save animals.
01:27When we come out to the centre, I wanted to really open things up.
01:30Just really go, okay, here Chris is, by himself. It's him and his own thoughts, really.
01:35The landscape here plays such an important part of this film.
01:40Not just visually, but also what it does to its characters and what's formed this community and why it's that way.
01:46I think a lot of these wonderful, colourful characters that we have in all this, who've become Chris's mob,
01:51I think that's what helps him find himself.
