01:00Over the past 30 years, Kazakhstan's constitution has been amended six times.

01:29The most fundamental change came in 2022,

01:32when President Okayev initiated a nationwide referendum.

01:36Since then, key national decisions have been made directly by the people.

01:40Among those shaping the amendments was Indira Aubakirova,

01:44a member of the Constitutional Reform Working Group.

02:38The Constitution of Kazakhstan, its main strength is its evolutionary character.

02:43I think it's very important that the Constitution includes

02:46a prohibition for relatives of the president

02:49to take high positions in public administration.

02:53In this way, I think the Constitution of Kazakhstan

02:55differs from other constitutions.

02:58Among the notable changes was also the re-establishment

03:01of the constitutional court.

03:03Since 2023, citizens can contest laws

03:06which they believe undermine their rights and freedoms.
