00:00But the win for Georgia came down right down to the wire in overtime.
00:04It wasn't easy.
00:05We had talked about Georgia's dominance over Tennessee in recent years,
00:10entering that game on Saturday afternoon.
00:13The Bulldogs had won eight straight in the series.
00:16They've won the last four by an average margin of victory of 20 points per game
00:21over the last four meetings.
00:23In the second quarter, Coach, they were hit with a few haymakers
00:27by Joey Aguilar and the Tennessee Volunteers.
00:30But credit Kirby Smart, credit Gunnar Stockton.
00:34They made plays, made adjustments in the second half,
00:38and they pulled it out 44-41 in OT.
00:42Well, I tell you, we found two things out.
00:44Both quarterbacks can play.
00:46There was no problem with either quarterback.
00:48And I was impressed with both.
00:50Joey Aguilar, to me, added the one thing that Tennessee has lacked
00:54the last three years.
00:55He hit the deep ball.
00:56You know, he hit two deep balls, and you know he didn't overthrow them.
01:00I love the Bobby Bowdenism that there's only – there's two absolutes in sports
01:03that are never changed.
01:05Short putts never go in, and overthrown footballs never get caught.
01:08He threw two deep balls that were short a little bit.
01:11His guys went up, caught them, scored.
01:14But that was one of the things that they needed.
01:16But this was definitely a situation where both quarterbacks threw the ball.
01:20It was more passing for Georgia than you could imagine.
01:23But you know what?
01:23When it came down to the very end, besides the field goal that was missed,
01:28and special teams were a factor in every major game this year, including Georgia Tech,
01:33including Texas A&M, and including this game, a made-or-missed field goal or something else
01:38is a factor.
01:39Georgia still rushed for more yardage.
01:42They had 82 plays compared to 70, and they had about eight more minutes in time of possession,
01:47which kept Tennessee off the field because they would have scored even more.
01:51When it boiled down to it, Georgia still was able to do what they have to do,
01:55run the football better than the other team, get the first downs, be on the field.
02:00And that's kind of what they did to beat a Tennessee team that, man,
02:04I think they're back as well with that offense that they showed.
02:07I agree with that, and I think Joey Aguilar is a complete upgrade from where they were
02:12with Nico last year.
02:14We talk about the tempo, the ability to run plays quickly and potentially wear down the
02:19Georgia front seven.
02:20They had a 21-7 first-half lead.
02:23The rushing attack opened up.
02:25All of a sudden, you saw Joey Aguilar attack that secondary over the top.
02:29He throws for 371 yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions.
02:33And all of a sudden, as the game played out, it was like, is Tennessee going to put up a 50 spot
02:38on that Georgia defense?
02:40But credit Kirby smart.
02:42They made in-game adjustments.
02:44All of a sudden, they started to get some stops.
02:46And I think the biggest thing is Georgia in the fourth quarter trails by eight points.
02:51Gunnar Stockton throws a dime.
02:53Coach, he throws for 304 yards, two toddies.
02:57The touchdown pass in the fourth quarter was an absolute dime.
03:01Perfect ball placement.
03:04They go for two.
03:05They convert.
03:06And all of a sudden, Georgia was playing with house money and the momentum, which allowed
03:11them to pull it out.
03:12And I think that game is a great example of what we analysts have to be careful of when
03:18we say, boy, that team can't play offense.
03:20That team is too conservative.
03:23Great coaches, when they're up against a team and the other team is hot like Georgia, the
03:28play calling that Bobo had, it was different.
03:30We're not going to win this game by just sitting on the ball.
03:34We got to go after them.
03:35And I think that's what you might see at LSU down the road.
03:38A lot of these coaches, when they're defensive minded, when they're winning by 14 points or
03:42a few points, they'll play conservative because that's the way they win ballgames.
03:47But when you know you're in a slugfest, when you know you're in a scoring contest like
03:51Georgia was, they put the pedal to the metal and they went after it.
03:55And I think that's what Georgia showed they were able to do.
03:58They couldn't do that last year.
04:00They couldn't do it.
04:01They didn't run the ball well enough.
04:02And the quarterback had to do too much.
04:05But they've showed they can mix up that offense off of good against a very good Tennessee team
04:09that's been very good on defense.
