The Grand Fishing Adventure S03E04 (06 May 2025)
Transcript
00:00This is the most epic underwater footage I've ever watched unfold in front of me.
00:05Prepare to immerse yourself into the underwater unknowns
00:09that obsess anglers across the globe.
00:11Ready?
00:12I'm fishing maniac Ali Hamidi.
00:15And we're off the underwater mark.
00:16And alongside our underwater experts.
00:19This is amazing.
00:22And my angling buddies.
00:23Unbelievable. Feels like a very, very good fish.
00:26We'll expose underwater myths and truths.
00:30What is the answer?
00:31Want to see what baits carp love most?
00:34Now we're talking attraction.
00:36Experience tackle and tech in different scenarios.
00:41It's on fire.
00:42And witness the fine lines between success
00:47and failure.
00:48No, no, no.
00:50All is unearthed in the underwater grand fishing adventure.
00:54Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:57We've got ourselves a piggy underwater.
01:11Our trip continues at Ictus, Southern France.
01:14Zamora.
01:15I just do the tapping.
01:16Luke the diver.
01:17Interesting things.
01:18And myself.
01:19Come on.
01:20The team's quest was to catch a colourful Koi Yeech.
01:23A 50 pound plus carp.
01:25With all the bites on an underwater camera.
01:28We'd seen lots of action.
01:30Had come close.
01:31Aargh.
01:33But no conversions.
01:36Bobby had had the only daytime bite.
01:38But he'd gone long into deeper murky water.
01:41With no underwater camera for the bite.
01:43It resulted in a 30 pound common.
01:46But also a yellow carp for straying from the underwater mission in hand.
01:51So three targets still to hit with time running out fast.
01:55It was a cool April dawn and three full fishing days later ahead of us.
02:04The carp were already active and showing but way out beyond our swim boundary over the deepest part of the lake.
02:10Luke had just placed my first rig into position in front of my live cam up the right hand margin.
02:16A tiger nut and half an almond pop up on a locked spinner rig.
02:20This area had seen plenty of carp already.
02:23But mainly limited to the last hour of daylight each day.
02:26Luke worked like a machine in the early morning cold temperatures.
02:30Which was more than can be said about Zamo.
02:33Morning.
02:35Very cold.
02:37Oh, I'm very stiff.
02:39Unlike the carp.
02:42The next mission was the open water rod starting with Bob's live cam.
02:46It needed repositioning.
02:48Luke moved it to as far as the cable allowed.
02:50So it was a bit closer to the showing carp.
02:54We're going into deep water.
02:57Seeing if we can push the boundaries of clarity.
03:00Bait.
03:00Luke.
03:02A deeper spot even further down the plateau in the sand.
03:06On the edge of the mud.
03:07Bob was using the same rig as on my margin spot.
03:10Sitting prominent on the light sandy lake bed.
03:13Is this ability good?
03:15Is this ability decent?
03:16Rigs in position.
03:18Just a little bit of bait down there.
03:20Oh, you've got to take the bait yet.
03:22You haven't done it yet.
03:22No, no, no.
03:23All right.
03:23Get down there, boy.
03:27Once a bit of free bait was scattered around Bob's hook bait, it was onto my open water spot.
03:32This was the same rig but with a different hook bait.
03:37Half a boilie soaked in pineapple goo, a fake snail plus a fake blood worm topper.
03:43This went in front of my open water spy cam which was also pushed a little further out near to Bob's live cam.
03:49Would the moves into deeper water pay off or would the clarity get too smoked up?
03:56Only time would tell.
03:57Great to see that Zamo was paying full attention and not just surfing the interweb in the spring sunshine.
04:05Five rigs went out in total.
04:07Two on live cameras that could be viewed as it happens in the control tent and also three spy cams.
04:13These could only be viewed retrospectively after they've been retrieved.
04:17What we like to call carp VAR.
04:20We were locked and loaded and a waiting game began once more.
04:24A few hours later the first fish appeared on the live cams.
04:28Initially a quick drive-by on Bob's open water spot.
04:32Then a carp moved in at the back of my margin area.
04:35This instantly buoyed the mood in the control tent.
04:39Oh Bobby Zamora, oh Bobby Zamora, he's on a yella, he's on a yella, he's on a yella.
04:54Tandem appearances.
05:01I'm pretty sure you've not been watching this camera for the last two hours.
05:05I mean, I go...
05:05Oh, it's up the back of there again, ghosty.
05:08No, don't do that.
05:09No, get us a ghosty.
05:10Get us a ghosty, Bob.
05:12Catch us a ghosty.
05:14That's eating up the back of the spot.
05:16Bobby Zamora, we have the earliest feeding.
05:19We have gone deeper with the live cam.
05:22We've made some good decisions this morning.
05:24They're getting confident.
05:26Then they see the big bright red one.
05:28They come in for the big bright red one.
05:30Then they end up here next to me and you on this bank for a cheesy selfie.
05:35Oh, there's fish coming in regular, Bob.
05:37Holy moly, it's turned on a sixpence.
05:41Moving the camera to deeper water definitely worked well.
05:44The carp were coming in and checking out the new spot.
05:46The clarity wasn't great, but we could definitely still see them.
05:51We just wanted to get that first bite on camera.
05:54Bob's open water spot was building up nicely
05:56with carp frequency increasing minute by minute.
06:00Oh, they've come up.
06:01Thank God we've moved that live cam.
06:04We have interest in the middle of the day.
06:08Oh, Bobby is coming down.
06:10Oh, my God.
06:14You're about to get a bite, Bob.
06:16You're about to get a bite.
06:17You're about to get...
06:18Oh, I spooked.
06:19I just spooked away.
06:22It felt like feeding time at the zoo was starting.
06:25Even I had to get involved.
06:32Koi as well.
06:34Koi as well.
06:35What a lunchtime bit of entertainment.
06:38Oh, ghosty.
06:39Ghosty.
06:39Go on.
06:40Good line.
06:42They're eating.
06:43They're only...
06:43They have...
06:44Oh, and another ghosty behind it.
06:46Two ghosties back to back.
06:48That's a bigger one.
06:50Wowzers.
06:52Wowzers, ladies and gentlemen.
06:54Close.
06:54We are close.
06:54We are close.
06:55We are close.
06:56We are close.
06:56Oh.
06:57Oh.
06:58Good line.
06:59Dip down.
07:00You little monkey.
07:01Ah.
07:03Oh, go on.
07:04Go on.
07:04That's the biggest fish so far.
07:06Oh, my God.
07:08That's the biggest one in the swim.
07:09It's got to be some aura.
07:12That's a monster.
07:13Turn.
07:14Turn.
07:14Come on, man.
07:15Turn.
07:16Oh, my God.
07:19That is a massive fish.
07:21There's a koi.
07:23It has gone radio rental.
07:25There's bait waft in everywhere.
07:26We've lost a bit of viz.
07:28That was so close.
07:29Oh.
07:30Oh.
07:30Oh.
07:31Koi.
07:32Ah, touch your bait.
07:33Two koi in the swim at the same time.
07:35You just missed it.
07:36This is incredible.
07:37Two koi in the swim at the same time.
07:39Oh, don't.
07:41Oh, mate, there's fish soup down here, mate.
07:43This is fish soup.
07:44You're about to get a bite.
07:45This was the best spell we'd witnessed here in France so far.
07:50It was turning into a feeding frenzy, and now Bob was about to get stuck in as well.
07:55Radio rental.
07:57Then through the murk came a ghostly shape.
08:00Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:02Oh, yeah, ghosty.
08:04You've nailed it.
08:06Yeah, yes, ghosty.
08:09It's a ghosty.
08:10Get it in there in the middle of the day, mate.
08:13Yes.
08:16It was all systems going into action mode within seconds.
08:20We got the underwater bite.
08:21Now we just had to get it in.
08:23Bob, Luke, and I got out to the deep and water in double quick time.
08:30We were like the three carpeteers.
08:39You can first play that fish, boy.
08:40Luke now had the carp in his camera sight.
08:48Whilst Bob played the ghosty with precision, I decided to set myself a little netting challenge.
08:54I've never done this before.
08:56I've never netted a fish not looking but using a selfie.
08:59If I screwed this up, I'd never live it down.
09:04Concentrate, Hamidi.
09:06No, look netted.
09:12No, look netted.
09:14No, look netted.
09:16It wasn't really the time for a no-look netting from Ali, but we got the first fish caught on the underwater camera in the bag.
09:34Get it down.
09:36As always, if there's carp on your spot, it's best to retain the carp in a sling if the lake allows it,
09:42which is what the hero Gabriel Stoyan is doing here.
09:45Then get your rod back out in the zone, top up with a little more bait, all before you check out your prize.
09:51Our first proper full daytime bite, and this lovely ghosty has slipped into the net.
10:00Rods are out, and we hope for a few more.
10:03A ghost carp is a hybrid that is a cross between a mirror or common and a koi.
10:08They usually have a distinctive H pattern on their skull, translucent appearance,
10:12and personally, I've always found them to be finicky feeders and trickier to catch.
10:17Spooky.
10:21A couple of hours later, no more bites for Bob, but the action had swapped to my live cam
10:28on my right-hand margin spot.
10:32Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Go on. Go on, Blinia. That's my hook bait.
10:41He's got it. He's taken it. It's in his mouth. He doesn't even know he's got it.
10:48No, he's done me. He's dropped it out of his mouth.
10:51That linear coming in, he sucked, he didn't even spook.
10:54He just had the hookbait in his mouth and it just fell back out of his mouth.
10:57100% it was in his mouth.
10:59100% in his mouth, mate.
11:00Watch this.
11:01Suck, suck, suck.
11:03Look at this hookbait, it goes completely in his mouth.
11:06Look.
11:07Oh, no, it doesn't. It pushes it out of the way.
11:10It's the side of his face.
11:12Yeah.
11:13Alright, I feel better now. Thank you, Bob, for the counselling.
11:16It's so crazy seeing this stuff play out live.
11:19Things that can happen, but often we'd never know about
11:23that wasn't an underwater camera.
11:26That near miss was the closest we got on that day.
11:29Just two more days remained for us to catch a koi each,
11:32a £50 plus cart for either of us,
11:35all caught on underwater cameras.
11:37This was going to be tough.
11:39It was our penultimate day in France.
11:49We woke to a fresh morning with carp topping again in the middle of the lake.
11:54They were also on the deck on Bob's live cam spot in the open water,
11:58hoovering up the free bait we'd just put out late last night once the rods had come in.
12:04The rigs were ready.
12:05Luke, the machine, started by deploying Bob's open water live cam first.
12:10Honestly, he's crazy.
12:12That water is freezing.
12:14Zamora had gone with a tiger nut and yellow pop-up combo and a locked spinner rig.
12:20Luke placed it on the spot, which was now almost cleared out of free bait,
12:24so he gave it a top up.
12:26I switched to a hook bait that I'd caught my biggest ever carp
12:32on a Buttercorn and Wonderberry flavoured white boilie.
12:36We'd now fed a lot of boilie over the week
12:39and the carp now seemed to be really getting on it.
12:41A light coloured boilie looked washed out,
12:43like some of the old loose feed that could still be out there.
12:47We decided to push the boundaries once more
12:50and place the rig and spike amp a little further out into deeper water.
12:54The clarity wasn't brilliant, but we'd give it a go.
12:59We also put out three more rigs.
13:01Bob had one up his left margin on a spy cam
13:04and I had another on a spy cam in open water,
13:07along with one up my right margin in front of the usual live cam.
13:11All the rods were now fishing.
13:14Also, there were new anglers in the swims opposite
13:17and to our left making up the Bermuda Triangle.
13:21This extra pressure could work in our favour,
13:24helping to push the carp closer to us.
13:27And coincidence or not,
13:29carp started to appear on Bob's live camera
13:32much earlier than any other day.
13:35That's close.
13:37That's great, Bob.
13:39Earlier than ever.
13:409.30.
13:429.31.
13:43Maybe the other fishermen on the lake have helped us.
13:48It was getting busy on Bob's live cam
13:50and one of my spy cams was very close indeed to it.
13:53So if there were carp around Bob's rig,
13:55there were bound to be carp around mine too.
13:58Oh, another one coming in.
14:01You're going to get a bite, Bob, very soon, mate.
14:04I just hope they just keep coming back after.
14:07They'll be feeding on both of them spots right as we speak.
14:10Yeah.
14:11The carp were now coming in thick and fast on Bob's live.
14:15That's going to go for your hook bait, Bob.
14:17Yeah.
14:18That's going to go for your hook bait.
14:19One suck.
14:20No, missed it.
14:21No, it's taking it.
14:22It's going to take it now.
14:23I think it sucked it.
14:24No.
14:25And you got...
14:26No.
14:27That's taken, isn't it?
14:28No.
14:29At any point here, ladies and gentlemen,
14:31Bobby's right-hander, my left-hander could go
14:34because they're fishing in a similar area.
14:37Same bait principles.
14:39The only difference is I've changed to a white hook bait,
14:44bottom bait, waftery, but really overweighted
14:48because that's actually what I've called my biggest ever carp on historically.
14:54And I feel like now we've fed a good amount of boilies.
14:58It looks like an old one but smells like a new one.
15:03Ladies and gents, we are going to get a bite very, very, very soon
15:07on one of these two rods.
15:09What we couldn't see but what was going on in front of my spy cam
15:13just a few metres away but with the magic of TV,
15:16you can now see what we couldn't at the time.
15:19It was all smoked up but you can just make out the white boilie
15:23and a dark shape coming in.
15:25I knew it was going to go.
15:35It was going to be one or the other.
15:38Speed was of the essence.
15:41This was my first daytime bite and I just had to make it count.
15:54I think it looks like a decent fish.
16:00My white boilie hook bait switch attempted a quality common
16:04that was now close to being mine.
16:07Here we go.
16:09He slipped the net under, it's in.
16:18This was bittersweet.
16:19Great to get a carp in the net but the visibility had gone
16:23due to the commotion of all the carp before it causing a disruption
16:27but still a bite on an underwater camera.
16:30Only just though.
16:32A fresh rig and hook bait was re-dropped by Luke in front of the spy cam
16:37before we got to check out my muscular French common.
16:41Look at that.
16:4337 ounces of Wonderberry Beauty hook bait tweak.
16:51Little white one but, Bob, could have got myself a yeller.
16:54A little bit far.
16:56A little bit murky.
16:57A little bit deep.
16:59It doesn't matter when they look like that.
17:02I am absolutely loving this session.
17:06It is building into a crescendo.
17:09So 12 pounds, 11 ounces short of our 50 pound team target
17:14but it was a quality carp with a bite caught on an underwater camera
17:18albeit a tad murky.
17:20We felt we'd get more chances though so we hope to improve on both points.
17:25Shortly after the open water area livened up like a cat on a hot tin roof.
17:32Koi.
17:33Koi.
17:34Go on after Koi.
17:35I'd love to see a Koi.
17:36He's coming.
17:37He's going to take your hook bait.
17:38Oh the one to the next.
17:39Go on.
17:40Take it.
17:41That's a proper orange one.
17:42You just need to remember.
17:43It's coming to yours.
17:45Bob's open water rod on the live cam which is on the left of the screen
17:49was only a couple of metres from one of my rigs on a spy cam on the right-hand screen.
17:55Bear in mind we couldn't see the action on the spy cam on the right but for your enjoyment
18:00here it is.
18:01We're literally the same distance out as well.
18:04Yeah.
18:05Like dink dink.
18:06It's fascinating.
18:07Oh.
18:08Yeah.
18:09Whoa.
18:10That's the biggie.
18:11That's the biggie.
18:12No, is it?
18:13No.
18:14Look at the head.
18:15It's got a bit of a belly.
18:16Yeah.
18:17It's got a bit of a belly on it though.
18:18We're not riding any more.
18:19Yeah.
18:20Oh, here's another one.
18:21There's surely going to be a shredder.
18:23A little bit.
18:24A little bit.
18:25Settle.
18:26Oh.
18:27No.
18:28It's just going to shop off you.
18:29Oh no.
18:30We don't want that one.
18:31Remember, we couldn't see the bottom right screen.
18:32Got a tail on the left.
18:33This is insane.
18:34We could get a double take.
18:35There could be a double take.
18:36How many underwater double takes have you got?
18:38Oh.
18:39Oh.
18:40I'm away.
18:44Another carp on.
18:46Get it up and get it out.
18:48Yes.
18:49We all sprung into action with me getting into the boat to get out to the fish to help avoid
18:54tangling with the other lines.
18:56Luke, are you ready?
18:57You suited up?
18:58No, he ain't.
19:00With Luke rapidly getting into his suit and following me out, armed with a small underwater
19:07camera.
19:08In no time at all, Luke had reached the boat and then managed to get some epic footage
19:13of a medium sized mirror carp that was putting up a great scrap in the deep water.
19:19The net is up.
19:21After several strong powerful runs, it finally tired.
19:25It's been a good time.
19:26Oh, baby.
19:27We are coming alive.
19:28Well done, Ali.
19:29Ah, yes.
19:30The relief.
19:31Every time you catch one on an underwater camera.
19:32And the clarity was improving too.
19:33A bit off our 50 pound target, but the spot was starting to simmer nicely in the open
19:35water.
19:36Things were looking good.
19:37It weighed 30 pounds on the butt and a lovely car by anyone's standards.
19:44Minutes later, Bob's live cam spot started to hot up once again with a common anagosti,
19:50then a mirror came close to picking up his hook bait.
19:51Yeah, it goes for it.
19:52It goes for it.
19:53It goes for it.
19:54Yeah.
19:55No, he missed it.
19:56Didn't go in the mouth.
19:57All he was now missing for the full house was one of our target carp, a Queen of the
19:58Coins.
19:59He was going to go in the mouth.
20:00All he was missing for the full house was one of our target carp, a Queen of the
20:05Coins.
20:06On anagosti, and then a mirror came close to picking up his hook bait.
20:11Yeah, it goes for it.
20:12It goes for it.
20:13Yeah.
20:14No, he missed it.
20:15Didn't go in the mouth.
20:16All he was now missing for the full house was one of our target carp, a Queen to make
20:21an appearance, and then as if by magic.
20:23Go on, go on, Coins.
20:25Yeah, yeah, yeah.
20:26It's for ya.
20:27Coins.
20:28Coins.
20:29Coins.
20:30Coins.
20:33Oh no no no no no no no no no no done yeah let's get on completely just done
20:55how's your hook point yeah sharp mate it's just been lost at the start of the fight no angle at
21:04lights losing a fish and definitely when it was one of our target koi as well all on the underwater
21:09live camera what can you say not only game for me but the entire team it was at that point I
21:17really wanted to make a hook bait change a bit gutted about that orange koi not being on the
21:22bank me right now but I've got to get a rig out and I'm going to go for four tiger nuts I saying
21:28I wanted to try on this little journey on this adventure so let's do that tiger nuts are an
21:35absolute cart favorite they love the sweetness and the crunch how well they'll work as a hook bait here
21:40only time would tell with Bob's rig now back out in position we wanted to have a var replay of the
21:48lost koi footage to see exactly what went on under the surface on and play
21:53ah it shakes its head out the hook pops out okay playing it again in slow-mo the koi picks up the
22:05hook bait goes to turn away feels the resistance from the spring-loaded device starts to bolt off
22:11and as it shakes its head you can see the hook bait fall out koi have tiny mouths and are sometimes tricky
22:17to hook yeah it's just one of them things mate
22:21unbeknown to us a cart was about to suck up one of my hook baits and at first it didn't even realize
22:36it was all kicking off in southern france a little over 24 hours to go my middle rod on a spike hammer
22:49just busting off which was out in open water to the right of our main spot oh it's all getting off
22:56a short battle out at sea with luke capturing the underwater action resulted in me slipping the net
23:02under my third carp of the trip oh well he's unhooking it in the water know what that means
23:09it's tiny just like him cheeky the mirror cart was around the mid 20 pound mark so after a quick
23:17what we call grab and grin i slipped it straight back home as our main target was a carp of 50 pounds or
23:24more 30 minutes later in the cut we're back on the open water spawn bob's live cam they are completely
23:33honest wowzers the other anglers is proper helpless in it yeah yeah the stars were aligning multiple new
23:41anglers causing commotion plus us having high quality boilies going in constantly for a number of days
23:47this was definitely helping our carp cause once they start eating them consistently soften digestible
23:55passing through them the nuts the hemp so i mean and and becoming accustomed to the camera being there
24:01all of them things and the winds coming in our face the moon phase is improving that moon phase
24:07is a big thing anyone who tries to argue that just look at the data if you ignore it you're mental
24:17moon phases a very influential factor in fishing and definitely in carp fishing new or full moons
24:26have a big influence on the capture of big carp there is loads of data out there to back it up
24:31and we were building to an optimum moon phase unbeknown to us an orange koi was now in the zone of my spy
24:40camp near to bob's live camp an orange koi was not only one of our targets but a carp had always dreamt
24:47of catching
24:48at the time we didn't know it was an orange koi but it did give it an
25:01initial trademark koi style run causing me to back one like crazy bob stayed in the control
25:08tent glued to his live screen as carp was still all over him and there was a high chance of us having
25:14a double take meanwhile i got out in the boat sharpish getting out to the fish fast reducing the
25:21likelihood of wiping out the other lines and causing bob to miss out on the opportunity of a bite
25:26try and pull that fish away from the spot let those fish carry on feeding and we could get a double take
25:33but i'm having some fun now you know i'm loving this i managed to draw the fish off to the right of
25:40the main spot happy now zamora play it from there i'll play from there luke then got his first glimpse
25:47of the fish and couldn't wait to pass on the news to the team
25:51i think it's going oh please if it's a koi might be a koi nick might be a koi it was quickly confirmed
26:00with another look that it was in fact an orange koi it's quick please don't come off
26:08he really wanted a koi as well so a target carp had been hooked i just needed to land it now
26:15the pressure was definitely on then while i was battling the orange beauty out at sea at the same
26:21time bob's open water life camp had a visitor oh get ready for a double take
26:27yep full double take bob's quad nut hook bait had definitely worked
26:36big and the bigger nothing meanwhile the orange caught you tired and was nearly mine
26:43just the tail to go in result
26:50so let's do with this bob my dream has come true an underwater koi what is happening there
26:59bobby is in
27:01zammo was now already on the boat and heading out towards his carp in double quick time luke was in
27:09hot pursuit with his underwater action camera bobby is going fast with the first part of the double
27:16hookup banked could bob get the second in the onion bag go on dazzler go on son as bob continued to
27:25play his carp i headed back to shore with my mega orange koi once back to the margin the target
27:31car was safely taken to be retained ready for inspection once this carnage had calmed bob's mirror
27:38was now close to his boat and all he had to do was to carefully guide it to the net easy now zamora
27:45two carp hooked
27:53and two carp landed beauty tash crazy 10 minutes double takes total carnage is what we live for
28:04both fish on underwater cameras and at that stage that was my biggest carp at 38 pounds buzzing
28:11well i wanted to see how tiger nuts worked out there as a hook bait pretty well i'd say 38 pound
28:20thank you very much then finally time to check out the first carp of our target hit list this
28:29was one of my dreams coming to this venue to catch a bright orange koi carp on an underwater camera
28:37this one 24 pounds on the koi's nose what an absolute belter
28:46i am buzzing with this proper spectacular lovely koi bubbly
28:55just over 24 hours remain for bob to catch a koi and for at least one of us to catch a 50 pounder
29:02with both bites on an underwater camera to complete our mission we were so up for this challenge
29:08and half an hour later it started to kick off once again on bob's open water live cam and remember
29:16my rig on a spy cam was right next door the other camera is really close to it they're literally
29:22this is live cam this is cabin yeah ready for the beep ready for the beep ready for the left hand
29:26the open water car traffic was relentless koi koi koi koi koi does he like tigers come on bob
29:45two koi doesn't like tigers oh there's two coins are coming this is a miracle it's a miracle
29:53Miracoy.
29:54Mate, write it, Dan. Keep writing. You're about to get another bite, probably.
29:57Oh, you are.
29:59Then the Miracoy made an appearance seconds later on my spy cam,
30:03which, of course, we couldn't see at the time, but you can right now.
30:07It was carb soup down there.
30:16Oh, there you go.
30:23Oh, check it.
30:25Luke.
30:27Standard procedure, I shot out on the boat with Luke in hot pursuit.
30:32It was certainly no target smasher, but it put up a good old scrap in the deep water.
30:37The white boilie hook bait was working.
30:40He slipped it in.
30:43A mid-20 mirror, we needed one at least twice this size
30:47to hit our team target of a 50-pounder.
30:50The big girls were down there somewhere, though.
30:53Go and have a word with them, will you, mate?
30:55As soon as I got back to shore,
30:57cart were all over Bob's open water live cam again like a collapsed tent.
31:02Keep an eye on his quadnut centre of frame.
31:05That's a thing.
31:07Yeah, here we go.
31:09Here we go.
31:10Here we go.
31:11Oh, yeah.
31:13Yes!
31:16Utter carnage.
31:18And to mix it up, Bob decided to play this one from the bank, saving Luke a swim.
31:24In a boat, it takes longer because you're getting towed around, so you're not gaining the same traction.
31:29You see, like, I've had it before, once upon a time, when I hooked a really big shark on a boat.
31:36Ah!
31:37Ah!
31:38My back's killing me.
31:39Might have to do a tag team.
31:40And, erm, did it all.
31:42It was a fresh shark.
31:44Oh!
31:45Oh, my God, that's big!
31:47And, erm...
31:48Yeah.
31:49Yeah, I did it all by myself.
31:50Let me do a stretch.
31:51Do a stretch.
31:52One sec.
31:53Yeah, it would have been handy if there was, like, someone tall, muscular that could have helped me.
31:58Yeah.
31:59Thank God for Zamora.
32:00But there wasn't, so I had to do it all by myself.
32:04Got it!
32:05You failed it, Bob!
32:06Just mind the tail, boys, mind the tail.
32:08You've done hard work for us.
32:10No, no!
32:11Just giving me a little bit of jip.
32:12And then, erm, and then, yeah, I mean, I'm happy to help you.
32:15Do you want me to play it for a bit?
32:17I'm just going to go and grab some of the drinks.
32:18Yeah, do a stretch.
32:19Do a stretch.
32:20I'll play it on backwind, yeah?
32:21Let me just get a quick drink and I'll be with you.
32:23Alright, mate.
32:24Three seconds later...
32:25Oh, it's getting heavy, this.
32:27Oh!
32:28You want it back?
32:29I'll take your water.
32:30There you go.
32:31I'll just pick your light clips in there.
32:32There you go.
32:33Lovely, mate.
32:34Cheers, brother.
32:35Me playing it obviously got the carp in close.
32:37And being a great mate, I even went into the water to net it for him, too.
32:42There you go, boy!
32:44That ain't a bad one.
32:47It's an old warrior.
32:48Good old fighter.
32:49I know that.
32:50Yeah.
32:51Buzzing to land that carp.
32:53I'm just so fortunate that my wingman, Ali, was there to help me out.
32:57I don't think I'd have got that in on my own.
32:59He's just such a powerful man.
33:01Well, look at this old thing.
33:04Scars all over it.
33:06I have no idea what it's been up to.
33:08Put up a hard fight against me.
33:10And it's looking absolutely incredible.
33:12What a banger.
33:13Thank you very much.
33:14It's all going off underwater.
33:15It's all going off underwater.
33:17Eh?
33:18It was our final day in France and Maura and I were confident our rigs and baiting strategy
33:32was working, but we decided to take a big gamble and move both the live cams slightly in the
33:38quest for clarity.
33:40Bob's area first to find the new zone not too far from where he'd already been catching.
33:47We are just adjusting the underwater camera.
33:50We want 100% visibility.
33:52We want the cleanest shot.
33:54And that means moving it into shallower, gravellier, clearer water.
34:03Because we want the perfect shot for you.
34:05Luke found an area slightly shallower than before, but with a definite improved clarity.
34:11After placing Bob's quad nut spinner rig into position, free bait was dumped directly round
34:17it, creating what we hoped would be the perfect carp trap on camera.
34:22Then my live cam, Luke had moved it about 10 metres further along the right margin.
34:27The idea was I'd be a little bit closer to where the carp reside during the day.
34:32The lake bed was rockier, so he placed a hook bait on a sail-paced patty, then onto a flat stone.
34:39Cunning.
34:41Five rids went out in total in front of underwater cameras.
34:44My left hand spy cam, we also deployed a little further out than previous.
34:49We were locked and loaded, ready for any final day action.
34:53At this point we both felt a little bit nervous because we were doing really well,
34:57but we still had two big targets to hit and we were moving the majority of the cameras.
35:02So, it was a gamble, but we all wanted that big grand finale.
35:08Unbeknown to me at the time, my longer range spy cam was about to get an inquiry, keep an eye on my white boilie hook bait.
35:20Oh, I'm away boys, I'm away.
35:22One of the lake's smaller commons had sucked up my white boilie that we'd only just put out to a slightly longer spot.
35:33For its size it put up a right old fight.
35:36A great start to our final day of fishing.
35:39Good lad.
35:41Another carp caught with a bite also captured on camera.
35:45Surely probability meant we were due a big one.
35:49Seconds later the action switched to Bob's open water live cam.
35:54The team were totally blindsided by a small mirror that had taken Bob's quad nut, hence no tent camera running. Sorry folks.
36:06Hey.
36:08This has got to go down as one of the most fun fishing sessions ever.
36:13Again, unlucky on the size and not a koi either, as Bob still needed to tick one of those off the target list.
36:20About eight hours remained.
36:23The spots were starting to rock. The fish had got used to the cameras and the cables.
36:29They were getting tuned into the bait and they were starting to feed in that shallower water more confidently.
36:36Things were feeling good.
36:38The moon phase for this day was saying virtually optimum catching conditions as well.
36:43The planets were literally aligning.
36:47Luke deployed Bob's rig back on the open water hotspot and less than five minutes after he'd vacated the area, the carp returned to check out Zamo's nuts.
36:57Oh, go on a yellow koi. Go on a yellow koi.
36:59Oh, I just missed it.
37:00So close.
37:01The mission control tent was reaching fever pitch and 30 seconds later that yellow koi came back for another look.
37:10Come on a yellow. Come on a yellow. Come on a yellow koi.
37:13Come on. Dip, dip, down. Quad, dip, dip, down.
37:17Oh, yeah.
37:18No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It needs to come closer.
37:21It needs to come closer.
37:23Not yet. Turn a little bit left.
37:26Oh.
37:28Oh, this is insane, man.
37:31That was so close.
37:32There were colours everywhere, left, right and centre, and I was desperate to get my target koi on the bank.
37:39Koi, this is hard.
37:41Slowed out.
37:42Oh.
37:43No, he's really cleared up.
37:44He's took it.
37:45He's took it.
37:46He's spread it out.
37:47Oh, he's come towards the lead.
37:49Yeah.
37:50It was at this point I thought it was not going to be my day.
37:53These koi were really messing with my mind.
37:57Oh.
37:58Oh, that's going to take it.
37:59No, no, no, no, no, no.
38:02He sank next to it.
38:03He's actually put it in a better place.
38:04Yeah.
38:05Cheers.
38:06Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
38:08Nice.
38:09All I remember thinking was that there was more colours here than in a pick-and-mick shop,
38:14and that one would surely take Bob's quad-nut suit.
38:19Oh.
38:20Oh.
38:21Oh.
38:22This is insane, man.
38:23It's insane.
38:24Go on, go on, go on.
38:25Is that it there?
38:26Yeah, on the right.
38:27There it is.
38:28We're so close.
38:29Yeah, no.
38:30You got it.
38:31You got it.
38:32Oh.
38:33Yes.
38:34Yes.
38:35It's a yellow koi.
38:36Yellow.
38:37Yellow.
38:38Yellow.
38:39Yellow.
38:40Yellow.
38:41In his career, I've never seen Zamora move so quick.
38:43He was on the boat and out on the lake faster than the fight in a phone booth.
38:47Unbelievable.
38:48In no time, Zambo was over the koi in the boat, and then Luke caught up with his camera.
38:55Just in time to capture some epic action before Zamora coaxed the banana-coloured koi skillfully
39:01into the net. Yes, the yellow koi is in the net and it clearly loves Zamo's quad nuts.
39:10Finally, what a way to tick off my target koi. A big bright yellow one that had been
39:16tormenting me all day. What about this? Fully brightened up my day, live on the
39:23underwater camera on my four tiger nut. Hook bait, thank you very much. What an
39:29absolute banger, sizes and everything. What a belter. As Bob's open water spot was
39:35doing all his bites, he then had a crazy idea to fish two rods and rigs in front
39:40of one live cam with two hook baits just inches apart. And Bobby is getting
39:47flamboyant. He didn't have a lot of flair in his career, but he's starting to show
39:51it today. Two hook baits next to each other on the spot. We've got a quad tiger nut
39:57he's been successful on this morning and he's put on a little waftery tiger and
40:02a topper I think. With them being so close together, I just hoped he didn't get
40:06himself in a right Joey mangle. Within minutes of Luke returning to the bank, carp
40:12started coming into Bob's live cam with the two rigs. And remember, my spy cam and
40:17rig were just a metre away also.
40:19What we didn't realise at the time was my second spy cam, 20 metres off the right hand
40:36margin was about to get super fruity.
40:40Oh, that's me. There's a chance of a double take. Go on Al. I decided to play it from the
40:53bank because there was a high chance of a double take as carp was still all over Bob's live cam.
40:59Yep. Where is he going to play? Oh, he's been it out. He's going to pick up it again.
41:03You've got to run. Oh no, he's been it out twice.
41:06Bob's two hook baits were now dangerously close together.
41:10Oh no, no, no, no. At the time, I was completely unaware of Bob's predicament as I played my car.
41:19Shall I pull it? Shall I pull it? I've got to tweak it a little bit, huh?
41:23He was going to try to carefully move one of the rigs while watching the live cam output
41:28on a mini screen. He'd only pulled it into a snag.
41:34You in? No, you won't believe what happened.
41:37What? Fish come in, spat it onto the other rod. Like, I mean, two, so we couldn't risk a fish
41:46taking two hook baits in one. So what are you doing now?
41:51So I wanted to move it. It's moved, but it's jumped into some rocks. So he's going to swim
41:54out and free it and put it back in position anyway.
41:56All right. This is turning to carnage. Oh my God.
42:02So Bob put the rod back on the rest as he waited for Luke to help free it.
42:06Meanwhile, I was starting to think my carp could be big.
42:10It's quite slow this, you know. It's a plodder. Could have a bit here, you know.
42:15All right.
42:17My carp was getting close. I enlisted Luke to help net it out at distance to avoid tangling
42:22the line. Suddenly the line started shredding off one of Bob's spools.
42:27Oh, it's you. Oh, no. Oh, I'm awake. Bob's awake.
42:32Yep. What? That's the lefty. That's the one you snagged.
42:36Yeah. How mad is that? Sammo hadn't switched the alarm on, on that rod that was snagged.
42:44Now it turns out, the moved rod has to be shown it. So the double hookup was on.
42:51Bob's carp came in pretty quick and Luke's salmon sweeped it into the net with perfection.
43:01Yes. Get in there.
43:04Only small, but it was a carp. Now just mine to go. Was it the 50 pound plus target carp we
43:12were after? It definitely felt heavy. That was for sure.
43:16Oh, it looks all right. That looks quite a pig. Is there a set of shoulders coming up
43:21there? No, don't sweep. Don't sweep. Oh, you can sweep. That looks bigger. That looks bigger.
43:27That is bigger. It is bigger. It is bigger. Yes. It is bigger. That's a pig. That's a
43:35pig. Piggy. Oh, yeah. We got ourselves a piggy. We got ourselves a piggy underwater. We got
43:42ourselves a piggy. Oh, yeah. A proper monster. Bob's was a tiddler, so he let it go straight
43:49away. But I retained mine in a sling as we wanted to check if we'd captured that all-important
43:55underwater bite on camera as we just didn't know.
44:01And the big cloud up. Boom. I'm glad he's got waders on, because those pants are filthy.
44:13When you know you've got the bite on camera, but still the big weighing remained, was it
44:20a 50-pound target smasher?
44:28That is bigger than a fall, actually.
44:31They're always deceiving. When they get to that size, they're golden deceivers.
44:37What a climax. Right, Bob. Ready?
44:40The moment of truth. Had we done it?
44:43We have what we call in the game a Hawaii 5-0. She is 51-9.
44:54We bypassed £40 and we went to a nifty underwater. Bobby Dazzler.
44:58Mate, another astonishing catch underwater. What a trick.
45:02This is what a team effort is all about. The magic of underwater filming.
45:12Unearthing the fine lines between success. Actually, no, a little bit of failure, but a lot of success.
45:21Bobby, you enjoyed yourself? Absolutely loved it. Learned so much as well.
45:25Learned loads, mate. Absolutely loved it. Well done to you.
45:27And you, swimmer extraordinaire. How are you feeling?
45:31It's indescribable. Insane.
45:34Trevyan, bon voyage, bon pes. This was an absolute adventure of the century. Look at that car.
45:45What a way to conclude the session. A mammoth team effort.
45:50What an unbelievable session. Some stunning carp and all targets hit. For me, the bright yellow was my favourite. 38-pounder. And the old warrior as well. Ali smashing the 50-pounder. Job done. Mic drop.
46:11This was an insane session because trying to catch carp in front of underwater cameras is about 20 times harder than doing it normally. So to catch the big orange koi, a major target, and to back it up with that 51-pound brew right at the end, that is the way we want to finish in a grand fishing adventure underwater finale.
46:34And it was only made possible with this absolutely incredible team. Take it away, lads.
46:41Take it away, lads.
