The deal, disclosed weeks before a scheduled trial in Alameda County, adds to a series of settlements Tesla has made to avoid jury trials over fatal wrecks. The Maldonado family alleged Autopilot defects caused the crash that killed 15-year-old Jovani Maldonado, while Tesla argued its system functioned as designed.
