00:00French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Poland's new head of state, Karol Nowrowski,
00:05this Tuesday afternoon at the Élysée Palace, right behind me in Paris.
00:11It's the Polish President's very first trip to France after taking office in August,
00:17and it comes at a highly sensitive time.
00:20Both leaders discussed a wide agenda, but security was really a front and a centre.
00:27Only a few days ago, 19 Russian drones crossed into Polish airspace.
00:33Warsaw insists that this incursion was deliberate, and European allies have rushed to respond.
00:41France has sent three Rafale fighter jets to help secure NATO's eastern flank.
00:47Germany and the UK have also sent Eurofighter patrols.
00:52The talks also touched on EU policy.
00:55Both presidents discussed Mercosur, the controversial free trade agreement between the EU and four South American countries.
01:04Both presidents are against it, as they believe that it could undercut European farmers.
01:10And Nowrowski even argued this Tuesday that it could benefit Russia through fertilizer exports,
01:16because these South American countries tend to see Russia as a desirable trading partner.
