00:00Calling case 251-403-576, State of Utah vs. Tyler James Robinson. Could you state your name?
00:12Tyler James Robinson.
00:15Thank you for being here, Mr. Robinson. So, Mr. Robinson, you have a right to an attorney.
00:21Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?
00:25Counting or not counting gang violence. Great.
00:32Just for the court's information, we did file just recently, within the last few minutes, a notice of intent to seek the death penalty.
00:38That was filed by Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray. So that should be in the court's file.
00:45That concludes reading the information.
00:48Mr. Robinson, this case is set for September 29th at 10 a.m.
00:59I am filing a notice of intent to seek the death penalty.
01:03I do not take this decision lightly, and it is a decision I have made independently as county attorney, based solely on the available evidence and circumstances and nature of the crime.
01:19Because we are seeking the death penalty, the defendant will continue to be held without bail in the Utah County Jail.
01:26After shooting Mr. Kirk, Robinson hid the gun, discarded the clothing he wore when he fired the rifle, and told his roommate to delete incriminating text messages and not talk to police.
01:42Children were present at the time of the shooting.
01:45On the evening of September 11th, 2025, as law enforcement continued their investigation,
01:52Tyler James Robinson went to the Washington County Sheriff's Office with his parents and a family friend to turn himself in.
02:01Robinson's mother explained that over the last year or so Robinson had become more political and had started to lean more to the left, becoming more pro-gay and trans rights oriented.
02:16She stated that Robinson began to date his roommate, a biological male who was transitioning genders.
02:25Police interviewed Robinson's roommate, a biological male who was involved in a romantic relationship with Robinson.
02:35The roommate told police that the roommate received messages from Robinson about the shooting, and he did provide those messages to police.
02:45On September 10th, 2025, the roommate received a text message from Robinson, which said,
02:52Drop what you're doing. Look under my keyboard.
02:56The roommate looked under the keyboard and found a note that stated,
03:00Quote, I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I'm going to take it.
03:06Police found a photograph of this note.
03:10The following text exchange then took place.
03:14After reading the note, the roommate responded, What?
03:19You're joking, right?
03:21Robinson, I am still okay, my love, but am stuck in Orem for a little while longer yet.
03:28Shouldn't be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still.
03:33To be honest, I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age.
03:38I am sorry to involve you.
03:41Roommate, you weren't the one who did it, right?
03:44Robinson, I am, I am, I'm sorry.
03:47Roommate, I thought they caught the person.
03:50Robinson, no, they grabbed some crazy old dude, then interrogated someone in similar clothing.
03:57I had planned to grab my rifle from my drop point shortly after, but most of that side of town got locked down.
04:06It's quiet almost enough to get out, but there's one vehicle lingering.
04:10Roommate, why?
04:12Robinson, why did I do it?
04:15Roommate, yeah.
04:17Robinson, I had enough of his hatred.
04:20Some hate can't be negotiated out.
04:22If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence.
04:42It's a crowd there.
04:45There is no amount of shoes.
04:47I broke my rifle.
04:49I'm Carmen, I don't know.
04:52It's a problem in luck that I get involved in many ways.
04:54You have to hide her.
04:55There are many
04:58I cannot lie.
04:59I would have to get rid ofooooo.
05:01I wish there are impossible for people to follow.
05:03Iron, position in the secretive band moving.
05:05Still I'm with you,
05:06I Özем.
