00:13Where are Republican leaders?

00:15If Republicans can't even sit down with leaders Schumer and Jeffries

00:18to simply have a conversation, then they cannot govern.

00:23Real leaders don't do negotiation through carrier pigeons.

00:29They don't outright ignore their colleagues when they ask for a meeting.

00:34To Leader Thune and to Speaker Johnson, get in a room with our Democratic leaders.

00:40Talk it out.

00:41That is a concept Americans understand.

00:45Senator Murray, thank you.

00:47Okay.

00:48Leader Schumer, you said in March you argued that government shutdown would give the keys to the city

00:54and the government to Trump and Russ vote.

00:56Give my power to furlough federal workers slash agencies.

01:00Is that any different now?

01:02It's much different now for at least three reasons.

01:06One, the Republicans are in much weaker position now than they were then.

01:12The BBB bill, which they have passed, is highly unpopular with the American people.

01:18Americans are going to Republican congressmen and senators and say undo it.

01:23Second, Democrats are unified.

01:25We have been strong on the same message for a very long time, which is we need to help the

01:32American people lower their costs, particularly on health care, and we need a bipartisan negotiation.

01:38And third, we have seen the unlawfulness since then.

01:42We have seen the unlawfulness in new ways, including rescissions, impoundments, etc.

01:48So the situation is much different.

01:50Yes.

01:52Are there any plans for the Senate to take action in the wake of the heinous assassination

02:00of Charlie Kirk to move against trans militia groups and Antifa groups that really foment

02:05violence and have direct calls against their political opponents?

02:09Look, violence from any quarter, for any reason, has to be condemned.

02:15It undermines our democracy.

02:17And whether it's left, right, center, liberal, conservative, independent, violence, any kind

02:22of violence, must be condemned.

02:24Way in the back.

02:24Senator Schumer, Thune offered this morning that you could call his cell phone, you have

02:32his number, his office is about 50 feet to your left.

02:35Why not just go walk into his office, talk to him, try to talk about that?

02:40We've been asking, Senator Leader Jeffries and I have been asking Thune and Johnson to negotiate

02:44from July.

02:46He's the leader of the Senate.

02:48What have we heard from them?

02:49Crickets.

02:50Nothing.

02:50Yes.

02:51Senator Van Hollen says that senators like you, lawmakers like you, that haven't backed

02:56Mondani is an example of spineless politics that people are sick of.

03:00Look, I met with Mondani last week.

03:03We had a very good conversation.

03:05We know each other well.

03:06And those conversations are continuing.

03:08Vision, revolution.

03:09I'm trying to call on people I haven't called on.

03:12Democrats for years said that Republicans should not hold government funding hostage to try

03:17to get policy wins.

03:18How is this any different?

03:19We're in a totally, we're in a much different situation because they, when you do the appropriations

03:25bills, they just undo them on their own because they've decimated health care for the American

03:30people.

03:31And the American people are telling senators and congressmen across the country, we want

03:35that changed and want that now.

03:37So the situation is not comparable.

03:40They even refuse to have bipartisan negotiations.

03:43We've always had bipartisan negotiations on this.

03:46Johnson put his bill in, no Democratic input, and that is why the Republicans are heading

03:55for us for a shutdown.

03:56We don't want it.
