00:00Kwame Williams, born in Accra, Ghana, relocated to the United States at the age of eight with
00:06dreams of becoming a scientist and aerospace engineer.
00:11By class four, the fourth grade, I got the chance to immigrate to the U.S.
00:16with my immediate family. And there I got into robotics and building robots throughout high
00:21school. So by the end of high school, I said, Mommy, I want to be a rocket scientist. I want
00:26to be an aerospace engineer. And so I got the chance to study aerospace engineering at MIT,
00:31thinking that that was going to be my my career and future. I got the chance to also
00:35work at NASA in my summers and holidays, thinking I'm going to be a rocket scientist for the rest of
00:40my life. But after returning to Ghana over a decade ago, Kwame's path took a surprising turn toward
00:47agriculture. I've left aerospace and I've come to agriculture and green business. And I that journey,
00:54that transition from aerospace to agriculture was really catalyzed by a trip back to Ghana,
01:00where my co-founder and I got to see rural poverty up close and personal. And you realize that people
01:06are surviving on one meal a day in rural communities, their hospitals, their orphanages are underdeveloped,
01:11underserved. And yes, they're surrounded by amazing crops, amazing botanicals. It's just that we
01:17haven't built the value chains that can add value to those crops to improve their lives.
01:22Today, Kwame leads a team of young changemakers working with rural farmers to cultivate moringa
01:30trees, creating sustainable income streams and improving livelihoods.
01:35And so our goal is to move 20,000 farmers to middle income over the next decade. And our goal then
01:45is ultimately to see how this intervention helps fight poverty, fight food insecurity,
01:51and improves the climate. Kwame's passions don't end there. He is also committed to empowering women
01:59in rural communities, helping them break the cycle of poverty and build a better future.
