Salvadorans rally against arrests tied to state of emergency on Independence Day
Salvadorans took to the streets on Monday, September 15, to demand the release of activists and human rights defenders, using the country's 204th Independence Day celebration to demand the end of "human rights violations" by the state. Protesters marched through San Salvador's main streets with families of detainees from the Movement of Victims of the Regime (Movir). The march was organized by the Resistance and Rebellion Block. The marchers called for President Nayib Bukele's government to implement economic, social, and security measures "that do not attack democracy and citizens' human rights."
