"Well, my message is this; they have to be very, very careful. They have to do something about Hamas. But Qatar has been a great ally to the United States," Trump replied.
"Qatar has been a great ally, and they also lead a very difficult life because they're right in the middle of everything. So they have to be a little bit politically correct in their terms. But I will tell you, they've been a great ally for the United States, Qatar," Trump added.
At the weekend, Trump hosted Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Washington, while talks included VP JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US envoy Steve Witkoff.
Last Tuesday Israel launched an attack on senior Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital. The group later announced that five people had been killed but the members of its negotiating delegation had survived.
Qatar condemned the attack, saying that it "will not tolerate any act targeting its security and sovereignty." The Hamas group were reportedly discussing the latest US peace proposal. Netanyahu told Qatar to 'expel' Hamas 'or bring them to justice', saying those condemning his country "should be ashamed of themselves".
