Relatives rejoiced on Wednesday evening after US President Donald Trump announced during a phone call that all hostages in Gaza would be released on Monday, following the signing of phase one of the Israel-Hamas peace deal earlier that day.
Footage shows Trump speaking with families of the hostages in a call arranged by Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick from Washington DC, as relatives exclaim, "You did it! Thank you, this is amazing," celebrating and embracing after the announcement of the hostages' release.
"We know you've done so much for us over the past - since you became a president and even before that. And we trust you'll fulfil the mission until every hostage, every 48 of the hostages is home. Thank you so much," expressed a relative of hostage Omni Miran.
"The hostages will come back. They're coming, all coming back on Monday," Trump replied.
It comes after the first phase of the Trump-initiated peace process, including the release of hostages and a ceasefire, was sealed off by Israel and Hamas on Wednesday. The indirect talks were held in Sharm el-Sheikh with mediation by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the US.
Last week, Hamas conditionally accepted the US-brokered plan, offering to release Israeli captives through Qatari and Egyptian mediators if Israel agrees to a lasting peace and full withdrawal.
Trump welcomed the response, describing it as a 'very special' moment and 'unprecedented in many ways'.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli military operations in Gaza have killed more than 67,100 people and injured around 169,800 others, according to Palestinian authorities.
The enclave also faces the most severe level of famine (IPC Phase 5), with more than 94 percent of hospitals destroyed.
