00:00Look, in retrospect, it would have been better if I had been shown the details of the material before PMQs.
00:08Nonetheless...
00:08The bits that were in Whitehall already?
00:10In retrospect...
00:11Why weren't you?
00:12It would have been better if I had seen that material.
00:13You must have wondered this.
00:15Well, the team were busy trying to get answers out of Peter Mandelson, which they hadn't got answers to.
00:21And you're sure they weren't just working, as it were, for Peter Mandelson, trying to protect his reputation a bit, when they should have been protecting yours?
00:26I've seen the questions that government officials put to Peter Mandelson.
00:31I've seen the response he gave to those questions.
00:33You think he was confiscating?
00:35Well, what I'd just say about those questions, they were the right questions, in my view, and they were waiting for Peter to reply.
00:42So they didn't know what his reply was going to be any more than I did.
00:45But look, if you're asking me now, you know, days on, would it be better if more of this material had been brought expressly to my attention, then yes, it would have been.
