00:00I'm here in Alice Springs for the premiere of the movie Kangaroo and here are the top
00:06locations to visit while you're in the red center. Have you ever driven a bus? No. Do you know
00:11anything about the local area? No. So what makes you think you're the right person for the job?
00:16I have no life and I'm completely broke. Welcome aboard. Kangaroo showcases the stunning scenery
00:21of Alice Springs and the best place for us to start are the local art centers. Hop in the back
00:28of a troopy for Anna's Art Tours of Australia. Over 400 Aboriginal women create art at the Jhunpi
00:36Desert Weavers. Jhunpi or dried grass is the bit just in the middle of the sculptures
00:41and you can see it just here this the rest of the fibers are wool and rough here. No trip to the
00:48red center is complete without visiting the West McDonnell Ranges. Stanley Chasm is a sacred place
00:56for the Arenda people. The stunning red rock faces will stop you in your tracks. Take a cultural tour
01:03to learn about the significance of the area. Our guide William Palmer tells us about the plants in
01:10the region including some bush foods. I'm here at the Ellery Creek Big Hole in the West McDonnell Ranges.
01:19This waterhole has been carved out over thousands of years. Here you can take a cool dip with the
01:26backdrop of the mesmerizing red cliffs. It's hard to imagine that this is the local swimming spot.
01:33It's part of the Ellery River system, considered to be the oldest river system in the world. Dating back to
01:40about 400 million years since this water started coming through this particular area and it flows down
01:46into the Fink River. Try and spot the black-footed rock wallabies at Simpsons Gap, a serene place to
01:53have a picnic near the waterhole. Alice Springs Desert Park prides itself on providing an authentic
02:00desert experience. If you're lucky you'll time your visit to see the wildflowers bloom. Make sure to book
02:08a nocturnal tour to see endangered animals within their predator-free enclosure. Keep your eyes peeled for
02:16echidnas and bilbies and malas which are small hair wallabies abundant within the park but extinct in
02:24the wild. The quokkas are probably a little bit bigger than this. The tour is all about stopping to
02:29admire Alice Springs and their signature crimson cocktail with Davidson plum is certainly a good
02:36companion for that.
