00:00I'm here in Alice Springs for the premiere of the movie Kangaroo and here
00:05are the top locations to visit while you're in the red center. Have you ever
00:09driven a bus? No. Do you know anything about the local area? No. So what makes
00:14you think you're the right person for the job? I have no life and I'm completely
00:17broke. Welcome aboard. Kangaroo showcases the stunning scenery of Alice Springs and
00:22the best place for us to start are the local art centers. Hop in the back of a
00:28troopy for Anna's art tours of Australia. Over 400 Aboriginal women create art at
00:35the Junpi Desert Weavers. Junpi or dried grass is the bit just in the middle of
00:40the sculptures and you can see it just here. This, the rest of the fibers are wool
00:45and raffia. No trip to the red center is complete without visiting the West
00:51McDonnell Ranges. Stanley Chasm is a sacred place for the
00:56Aranda people. The stunning red rock faces will stop you in your tracks. Take a
01:02cultural tour to learn about the significance of the area. Our guide
01:07William Palmer tells us about the plants in the region including some bush foods.
01:12I'm here at the Ellery Creek Big Hole in the West McDonnell Ranges. This waterhole has
01:21been carved out over thousands of years. Here you can take a cool dip with the
01:26backdrop of the mesmerizing red cliffs. It's hard to imagine that this is the
01:32local swimming spot. It's part of the Ellery River system, considered to be the
01:37oldest river system in the world. Dating back to about 400 million years since
01:42this water started coming through this particular area and it flows down into the
01:47Think River. Try and spot the black-footed rock wallabies at Simpsons Gap, a serene
01:53place to have a picnic near the waterhole. Alice Springs Desert Park prides
01:58itself on providing an authentic desert experience. If you're lucky you'll time
02:04your visit to see the wildflowers bloom. Make sure to book a nocturnal tour to see
02:10endangered animals within their predator-free enclosure. Keep your eyes peeled for
02:16echidnas and bilbies and malas, which are small-haired wallabies, abundant within
02:22the park but extinct in the wild. The quokkas are probably a little bit bigger
02:26than this. The tour is all about stopping to admire Alice Springs and their
02:32signature Crimson Cocktail with Davidson Plum is certainly a good companion for that.
