00:00they had their whole lives in front of them they were the couple that you would see and you'd know
00:10instantly that they were meant for each other I remember Shane just beaming that he was going to
00:16be a dad again he loved Southburn he loved the house and I was really happy there and I loved
00:23being sort of out in the countryside the only thing threatening to spoil their rural idyll
00:28is life with their neighbour there had been a difficult relationship that had progressively
00:34got worse I had a bad feeling about him I wasn't happy and that he was living next door
00:43his hatred for this this young couple unbeknown to them is what gives his life purpose over the
00:54course of a year that hopes for a happy future turned to dust they were going out
01:01for an Italian meal for this young couple it was an evening of joy I saw that Shane had done a check-in
01:12saying date night with my love I didn't realize that that would be their last night out he told
01:20me it was gonna kill us both you both gonna die tonight in the East Yorkshire countryside Laura Sugden and
01:45her partner Shane Gilmer are getting ready to go out for dinner it was January the 12th and myself and
01:53Shane had booked in to go to a local restaurant we'd been wanting to go for a while they were always out
02:01and about out for meals it was almost sickening how in love that they were there's has been a whirlwind
02:09romance just everything sort of happened from there really really quite quickly and we saw living
02:17together and then the next thing we was having a baby Shane had said to me what's the best thing that
02:24would happen like I couldn't love you anymore we're perfect for each other having a baby is only gonna
02:29just be it'll just make things better we were delighted both myself and her mother at the news
02:37they seemed so happy together Laura liked being looked after and Shane just took it to a whole another
02:48level with her I think she thought because I'd not been keeping my food down very well that it was
02:55sort of something nice that I might enjoy a meal for for the first time in a while so yeah it was a bit
03:00of a treat the restaurant is a 40-minute drive from their cottage in Southburn outside the market town of
03:11Driffield in Yorkshire you can sort of go through it and then you missed it it's that small I always
03:21used to go and visit and the girls would play in the garden and she had a trampoline set up for them
03:26there was just more room for them to run around and we knew they were safe the semi-detached red brick
03:32house is surrounded by fields and woodland the two houses quite old cottages the back garden in
03:41particular looked out onto paddock with horses it was it was a lovely setting it was just idyllic
03:47really she had a next-door neighbor but other than that there wasn't many houses around her
03:52we just got a new car actually the day before Shane had two children to a previous relationship and
04:09obviously I had Isabel and we were having another one on the way so we ended up having to get a seven
04:15seater Shane was very excited about it I think they'd only had it a matter of hours and I think
04:24he'd been out in it numerous times already my daughter was going to her dad's for the weekend so
04:33he collected hair on the Friday and then we sort of went went off for a nice evening really
04:39there was a check-in at that location at Gina's to say that they were out for a meal I saw that and
04:47I thought they're not going to be home for a little while so I'll head straight home and then I'll pop
04:51in and see them the next day at the restaurant Laura struggles to unwind she's troubled by their
05:04next-door neighbor Shane and Laura they were living next door to a strange character a man called Anthony
05:13Lawrence they didn't see very much of him he used to come and go mainly just to take the dog out or
05:22or get in his vehicle it was a very strange man he'd never say hello even if I said hello to him
05:32he wouldn't make eye contact I started to hear little bits about they were having some problems with him
05:42back in Southburn Anthony Lawrence is acutely aware that his neighbors are out for the past year
05:59he's been nursing a grudge against them and it's growing this is somebody who who's showing
06:06indications of really having developed a hatred of this hopeful optimistic young couple
06:15them going out on this joyful innocent night out it presented an opportunity for him to
06:24culminate his campaign of hatred
06:26myself and Shane are both quite quick eaters um so we weren't in there particularly long
06:38it's actually got a necks attached to it um so we did actually go to get just some baby grows
06:44while they shop for clothes for their unborn baby
06:54Anthony Lawrence makes his way up to his attic what's up there reveals the level of his obsession
07:05Anthony Lawrence has been meticulously removing bricks from the attic that separates the two houses
07:15to enable him to move about from his side of the house to their house with with minimal disturbance
07:25Laura and Shane set off from Hull they have a couple of stops to make before returning home
07:43my brother wanted to see the car so we did actually just call to Driftfield where my family lived show
07:49my brother the car and then sort of headed back we called at Tesco's and Shane got me some of the
07:55non-alcoholic ciders then we drove back to South Byrne
08:10Anthony Lawrence moves across into their loft and drops down through the hatch into Laura and Shane's house
08:18he was waiting for them I said to Shane I was like I'm just gonna go upstairs I'll just watch telly
08:27upstairs watch a film or something because I am tired and that's when she noticed that something was on
08:33the floor below the loft space I saw just like a really tiny like a dirty like sort of muddy mark I mean it
08:45was probably about as big as a five pence piece nobody wore shoes in my upstairs just I couldn't work out where I'd come from
08:53Laura cautiously opens the three bedroom doors one by one she opens one bedroom door nothing there pushed
09:07open my bedroom door you know there's nothing there I just got a really strange feeling when I opened
09:13Isabel's bedroom door it's like I knew that I didn't think somebody was in my house I knew he was in my
09:19house Laura knows she is going to come face to face with Anthony Lawrence and there he is standing in the
09:33third bedroom completely calm with a crossbow
09:5355 year old Anthony Lawrence has nursed a grudge for a year now he's in Laura's home armed and extremely
10:03dangerous he told me he was gonna kill us both just like that you know you're both gonna die tonight
10:10on his head is a head torch and in his hand a crossbow its deadly potential is obvious when I saw
10:21it I thought it was a bow and arrow that when I've seen a bow and arrow they're usually wooden and this
10:25was looked more like a machine I didn't know it's the bolts on the sort of on it I thought gosh they are
10:32unbelievable such a degree of evil where he just simply wanted to murder two people it's your worst
10:44nightmare Laura Sugden has lived next to Anthony Lawrence for more than six years though never close
10:55the pair have been civil he did really keep himself to himself to an extent he had told me that he had
11:02been in prison previously but he didn't go into a lot of detail about what he'd been in prison for
11:09living in this isolated but almost shared space that there are moments where their their lives do overlap
11:18he took my dogs for a walk my internet wasn't working at one point and he gave me his Wi-Fi password and
11:27said if any problems just give me a ring because he knew that I was on my own there
11:31he was wary of me and I believe that was simply because I was an ex-police officer
11:39he had a look about in which you you can't put your finger on it sometimes but you know there's
11:45something that you don't trust let's put it that way
11:48Laura was suspicious that Tony was growing marijuana the smell of cannabis was horrendous we had fires
12:13upstairs in old fires in my house in Isabel's bedroom and the smell was coming through so much
12:19so that I ended up moving her into the spare bedroom Laura believes that her neighbor isn't
12:25just cultivating the drugs he's also selling them and making little effort to disguise that fact
12:32something just don't add up here is is not somebody that's got many friends nobody sort of visits but
12:40then when these cars are coming they're in there for sort of two minutes at a time and then they're
12:43straight leaving and I thought it just seemed really odd and then obviously this that went with the
12:46smell when it was just Laura and her her young daughter as his neighbor I I think this was
12:54tolerable this was comfortable for for Anthony Lawrence Shane Gilmer moves in with Laura in the
13:05autumn of 2016 after their office romance blossoms I remember her telling me about someone at work that
13:14shit she'd met and myself and Laura went on a night out in Beverly and it was just me and her and we
13:24were having a girly chat and a few drinks and then next thing he pops up behind both of us as we're taking a
13:30selfie and that was the first time that I met him I could tell by the way they looked at each other that it
13:38was it was going to develop into more than just friends he made me laugh constantly Shane was funny he
13:48didn't take life too seriously though it was obvious that he took his job very seriously because um moving people
13:56around and finding them social housing is not an easy job he genuinely cared about people he was coming
14:04from work and said to me like I can't I've got to do something you know I've got to do something um and
14:09he did his job it was his life his kindness was just you know seconds and on I've never met anybody as
14:17kind in my life he took me to Morocco for my birthday we went to Bruges do you like ice skating Laura?
14:27She's never been on an ice rink before but Shane just had a way of encouraging her and bringing the best
14:33out of her at the same time I think it was only a matter of months before he was living living there
14:41with her and Isabelle and it was just like they'd been together for years he came to stay and just
14:48never really left um and it became quite evident that I didn't really want him to leave then the
14:53sort of next thing we was having a baby
14:58Father's main concern is is your daughter going to be with someone who's going to look after them
15:04and I felt that the kind of person that we we got to know in Shane that she was in very good hands
15:11I could see Laura and Shane together for the rest of their lives
15:19Shane moving in marks a change in Laura's relationship with her neighbour Anthony Lawrence
15:24Tony had started playing um loud music it I just sort of ignored it but then it would continue to
15:34like you know 12 one o'clock in the morning did become a bit of a pain I just thought it's really
15:40strange that this is all just starting up and there's never been anything for sort of years on end
15:46I just thought he was a harmless oddball I didn't see any threat to them from him I just thought for
15:53whatever reason he decided he didn't like having them next door but in January 2017 all of that changes
16:04when a minor incident escalates into a violent confrontation
16:15myself and Shane was sat just playing a game of monopoly it was a weekday night
16:19it got to like sort of 10 o'clock and we could hear the music from next door that obviously started
16:25up again really loud so we actually muted our telly and just listened um sort of his sort of made a bit
16:31of a jerk about it Shane had said to me look if it's still going on when we go to bed I'll just go
16:36around and just ask him if he'll turn it down he goes to the front door of Anthony's house and
16:43knocks on the door Shane had actually gone around to the front of the house but we always used the
16:49back so Tony had shouted to him to come around the back it's clear that the music was being played
16:57in some kind of anger Shane made an entirely reasonable request asking him to turn down the music
17:06to shame that was just a normal simple request little did he know that that was an act that
17:14triggered a campaign of of hatred in Anthony Lawrence I just had a load of sort of commotion outside so
17:23I've obviously gone outside into the back garden Tony was just coming down the path his pathway
17:31with an axe saying that he was going to effing killed us just sort of rambling about he knew
17:39what Shane did for a job but I just said to Shane look just come inside
17:47I'd gone into work I said you know something sort of really strange happened last night explained it to
17:51them and they said to me straight away you need to report that to the police or it's a threat to kill
17:55we rang them Shane spoke to him on the phone and sort of told him what happened from that moment
18:03on it just spiraled that was when he really did turn into a horrible person he was just making their
18:12life hell it became increasingly frustrating the amount of sort of times that we were calling and saying
18:18look I'm tell I'm basically telling you that somebody's doing something that's illegal and
18:22they shouldn't be doing it there was the situation with a smell of cannabis and also noise and also he
18:33was making loud phone calls really shouting and bawling to somebody at the end of the phone
18:39horse manure was dropped in the garden
18:42he'd thrown rubbish and dog waste into a garden
18:49i just thought he was causing unnecessary trouble
18:54and this is not just somebody defending their own space somebody a bit angry
19:00this is somebody who's who's actually festering there are behaviors here that are maliciously driven
19:07and this is always a big warning sign from that day on i was never ever sort of settled in that house
19:21it got to the point where they simply had to report
19:26this man not only to the council but also to the letting agents who were renting that that property out
19:33they were really good actually so they said that they would do an inspection as part of the taking
19:39over of the properties a young female estate agent um had to do an inspection of his house um and
19:48when she emerged she her she was visibly disturbed and ultimately the estate agents issued um an eviction
19:57order to to anthony lawrence
20:09that week prior to the 12th of january his car was away for like one night then it would be back and then
20:15it was away again i think i lived there six or seven years and i'd never ever known him stay away overnight
20:25what's going on shane just sort of said well he's been evicted so he's obviously he's obviously moving
20:34i can't imagine some somebody that's been so aggressive towards us um he's just gonna just go so quietly
20:43this is a man who was plotting planning he was getting himself ready to to do something
20:50i just felt like he knows that it's down to us why he's been evicted and i can't see somebody
20:58like him knowing that and just leaving inside the house next door laura and shane's neighbor
21:06anthony lawrence is collecting an arsenal of weapons anthony lawrence was acquiring a crossbows
21:14and more importantly he actually altered the bolts to make them more lethal getting ready for his attack
21:25on this young couple every day that passed he just became more determined more committed to what he was
21:31doing so he was tooled up to the hilt ready for this attack
21:48madly in love and expecting their first child together laura sugden and shane gilmer are out for
21:57a romantic meal unbeknownst to them their volatile neighbor 55 year old anthony lawrence has broken
22:06into their house in east yorkshire and is lying in wait for them to return home
22:12i didn't think somebody was in my house i knew he was in my house
22:21i've sort of said what you're doing in my house tony and i think that's when shane's obviously heard
22:25me say his name i sort of backed into my bedroom shane's then obviously come up the stairs
22:33anthony lawrence fires the crossbow at shane
22:43i wasn't aware that she went that shane was actually shot because the crossbow's silent
22:47and shane just sort of fell down on this to the side of the bed um like bleeding profusely
22:55i've obviously tried to sort of go to the edge of the bed to help him comfort him but he wouldn't
23:02let me do that you know i pleaded with him i begged him he was not going to be put off nothing is going
23:11to stop anthony lawrence at this point at first i tried denying that you know we haven't made contact
23:18with the place we weren't anything to do with the um in being evicted um but then he told me that
23:24he'd been listening to us through the wall he's been listening to me for every year
23:33i said that will retract i'll retract what what we said i'll ring the police i'll ring the letting
23:38agent and i'll tell him that we've made it up but it didn't unfortunately have any impact on him whatsoever
23:44this was a man so resolute so determined to carry through on what he saw was a an almost heroic crusade
23:58and that's when he's um shot me in the head
24:04it's gone into sort of the top of my head and i've pulled out that's when the sort of the blood
24:09started sort of dripped down my face i felt really sort of distant like disorientated
24:15when he couldn't reload the crossbow fast enough to finish my daughter off he'd knelt on top of her
24:25got control over my hand actually while i had my hand still on the bolt and pushed this crossbow bolt
24:31into her throat laura has been shot in the head and stabbed in the neck
24:38on the floor bleeding heavily is shane the crossbow bolt has pinned his arm to his side
24:46he's unable to defend himself poor laura i thought i'm gonna have to fight for fight for both of us
24:52i actually overpowered him sort of sat on him then with the arrow out that was out of my neck
25:01and i was trying to sort of injure him with it
25:06i was saying shane please can you help obviously i knew that there's no way that he was going to be able to
25:12laurence breaks free and makes his way back to the bedroom where his other crossbows remain
25:19and at that point i've just sort of been sat on the floor like holding shane's hand
25:23um you know and he's just said to me you you need to get out this house now
25:29i'll never forgive you if you don't and look after look after the baby as well
25:33so i've obviously gone down the stairs um i heard him come down maybe like two or three stairs
25:41i've then left the property like run outside into the back
25:47i've then gone sort of down the street
25:49the anthony lawrence is almost in some kind of trance now and uh when laura finally manages to make
25:57her escape it it it's like he come it's almost like he comes to
26:03i needed to get him out of away from shane
26:06so i thought if i can get somebody there sort of quickly then we're going to be all right
26:10i've run up that driveway but i heard his car um sort of coming from that direction so i knew
26:20that he had left the property but i didn't sort of know which direction he was going in so i've just
26:25ran and sort of waited for him to go past so he hasn't seen me i just remember knocking on the door
26:33and then i collapsed i'm shona kilner and in january 2018 i was a serving police officer with humberside police
26:48i was contacted in the early hours of saturday the 13th of january from the family liaison
26:55coordinator and she informed me that there had been an incident in little village not too far from where
27:01i lived and for that reason she asked if i was available to be deployed
27:08so i traveled to hull to the major incident room and received a briefing
27:16the police had received a 999 call from a lady called laura sugden who had been
27:23attacked by her neighbor and her partner shane gilmer had also been tagged
27:28the neighbor had fled the scene and there was an armed response a manhunt out looking for him
27:45in hull royal infirmary laura and shane are both receiving emergency treatment
27:49i remember sort of constantly saying you know when can i see him i had a feeling that he was in the
27:57room next to me and in the beginning it sounded really busy in there there was a lot of sort of
28:03noise in there and then it just went completely silent
28:06and then doctors came in and just said i just said is is he dead and they said yeah
28:19my body sort of felt it as it happened that's the only way i can describe it if they'd come in and
28:25said any different i would have struggled to believe them because i just something like strange
28:29to say about just felt something died in me as well i saw my heart out um for them and for you know shane's
28:43family it just it was just unreal unbelievable i saw my daughter's um future being destroyed really
28:54um in that instant medics are aware that laura is halfway into her pregnancy
29:05they turn their attention to the unborn baby you know they said to me that they didn't think that
29:11she would have the baby would have survived and then they put the doppler on and yeah she was her
29:18heart was mad or beating i walked into the onto the ward and into the room where laura was
29:27and knew straight away that something horrible had happened a scene which was like something from a
29:34video armed police everywhere in the hospital this man was still on the loose they were concerned that
29:43that possibly he he would want to finish the job off which was to kill my daughter
29:52finding anthony lawrence is crucial and the person best placed to help a police locate him is laura
30:03because he was still at large and because he was armed and considered dangerous and the priority
30:09was to locate um tony lawrence the first time i met laura was at castle hill hospital
30:20her hair was matted in her own blood despite the fact that she was clearly in a bad way
30:29she was able to give us lots of information so she was able to fill in some of those gaps for us
30:34she was able to tell the police he had left the scene in a vehicle but wasn't able to give what
30:46direction to say this is a sleepy village is taking it to another level um so that car at that time very
30:56loud all logical things tell you that that was that that was the vehicle that he was driving away in
31:02there was intelligence that suggested that after tony lawrence had left the scene he was able to get
31:11into a motorhome and because the motorhome was a higher vehicle it had a tracker installed so through
31:19anpr they were able to track at some point where the motorhome was lawrence had um made his way into the
31:27north yorkshire area and so for that reason humberside police officers and north yorkshire officers would
31:33have worked together to try and locate him we don't know how anthony lawrence was feeling at this point
31:40but what we do know is that somebody who felt persecuted by the world and here he is actually for
31:47the first time he really is being pursued and here he is holed up in a camper van in the middle of nowhere
31:54while everybody's looking for him the manhunt for anthony lawrence continues for 48 hours
32:11i was constantly saying any you know any news any news we were able to tell laura that he had been
32:19located in the motorhome that armed response had entered the motorhome and that tony lawrence was
32:27dead inside the motorhome
32:33he'd taken an overdose of tablets
32:37i was angry i thought i can't believe you've done destroyed my family and you've killed yourself
32:42just seemed all so pointless i've been deployed as a family liaison officer to several incidents and each
32:52incident is unique um but by far i think this was the most disturbing um harrowing and distressing deployment
33:04there was um a coroner's inquest in order for the coroner to satisfy himself about the circumstances
33:13of the death then um we still have to continue with the investigation
33:22what police on earth reveals a deeply disturbing picture
33:25when they started to piece everything together um about the fact that he'd hired the van
33:34and then he'd he'd sort of arranged to have his dog removed and then i got the if you like the real
33:42picture of how this was meticulously planned there were listening devices uh in laura's property
33:51he'd put a recording device on his wall to enable him to hear what shane and laura were saying he's
34:01listening to them talking about him being evicted at that point he started to in his own mind i think
34:11think of a way to get rid of them both not only did he acquire one crossbows my understanding is
34:18he got he got three crossbows he didn't want to take any chances on on it going wrong
34:27he dismantled that partition wall brick by brick and then got rid of the bricks as well
34:33he would have been in the property at some point having a good look around
34:37so yeah there was something very militaristic about his planning
34:41in fact the former territorial army reservist had been planning for exactly 12 months to the day
34:50it was exactly you know a year that he threatened to kill us in um 2017 with the axe and then exactly
34:57a year to the day he'd actually managed to obviously get into our house and kill shane and attempt to kill me
35:11the happy future that laura and shane were planning is in tatters
35:21laura just said she wanted to die she didn't want to live
35:27i was already severely depressed anyway and grieving and i thought how am i gonna
35:32have this baby like what happens if i don't feel anything just gotta think about getting you know
35:38shane's funeral sorted and looking after isabelle and just keep focused on that
35:48500 people attended his funeral now probably five people might attend my funeral but at the age of 30
35:56he had done so much and he'd helped so many people it took a while for us to get through to her that
36:05this baby was still gonna be as loved with or without shane here it was a part of him that she could
36:13treasure forever as soon as she was born as instant she looked just like her dad and that sort of helped
36:22massively you know although sometimes it absolutely fills me with sadness but then there's a lot of
36:26other times where it brings me a massive amount of comfort
36:32because anthony lawrence took his own life there could be no criminal trial
36:38instead an inquest is ordered i'm jemma vine i was the solicitor who represented laura subden at
36:45shane gilmer's inquest so the interquest took place in april 2021 and it was over the space of
36:56a week in hull corridors court and the points of the inquest was to determine essentially how
37:03and in what circumstances shane died
37:10police attending laura's property had to risk assess the situation before deploying an armed
37:15response unit the delay was caused primarily because of the fact it was a crossbow at that
37:22time they didn't know where anthony lawrence was as to whether he was in the grounds or in you know
37:29the woods or fields nearby they have to meet up and plan how they're going to go around the village
37:38and cover it so there's a time element there time is is massively important in respect to all
37:45shane's injuries there was a recognition by the police and the ambulance service obviously as
37:52well that the lethality of a crossbow the fact it can be fired at distance the fact it's silent
37:59all played in effect on whether or not they could approach the property and at what time
38:04the majority of the inquest concentrated on what actually happened on the 12th
38:07he was clearly expecting at some point for laura to open that door or shane and when she pushed the
38:15door open i don't think she could clearly see him because of the head torch so yeah it was very
38:22difficult for laura to understand who it was and what was happening
38:29the inquest heard of shane's catastrophic injuries and how remarkably he managed to place a 999 call to
38:36summon help for laura laura's first call was around 9 18 and after she'd managed to escape the property
38:45and shane was unable to call himself at around half past nine and and and a second call a few minutes
38:53after that as well that call remained open until the paramedics arrived
39:03once that bolt went in between 200 to 400 feet per second that's what we're talking about
39:09once it went into his side it's destroyed most of his organs internal organs on that side of his body
39:14um and that's within seconds it was quite difficult to get the bolt out of his spine and because there
39:24was that much force that had embedded into it shane didn't know where laura was um she'd left the bedroom
39:34but he wasn't sure what had happened to her and so for that reason he dragged himself down the stairs
39:41to the sitting room to um make a call from the landline because he didn't have his mobile phone
39:49the fact that his arm had been pinned to his body um and he'd lost an awful lot of blood must have been
39:57so so painful for him it was absolutely horrific there was blood all over the stairs and you didn't
40:05need to be an expert to know what had happened he was trying to get down the stairs um whilst bleeding to
40:13death um and it was horrific beyond imagination
40:23the coroner's verdict was recorded shane's death was an unlawful killing
40:28the sheer horror of the incident prompted him to comment on the ease of acquiring crossbows
40:36the coroner used his powers and under the coroners and justice act to do a prevention of future deaths
40:41reports and that report went to the home office to highlight his concerns the bigger question is how
40:52easily accessible crossbows are for anyone who can purport to be 18. i never sort of anticipated
41:03what damage that it you know that that's something like that could do one of the things that was
41:09described to us was that it it's got the accuracy of of a rifle for example and and can shoot from the
41:17same sort of distance but with more force and and it's quiet i can go onto a website and buy a crossbow
41:28for 89 pounds send them my money instantly and the only thing they require is some kind of verification
41:37that i'm over 18. no matter whether they've got a criminal record no matter whether whether they've
41:43perhaps got mental health history anthony lawrence had he tried to purchase a gun and get a license
41:51for it wouldn't have got one we did a freedom of information request of all police forces in 2021
41:58of the 43 police forces in england and wales every single one of them had got recorded incidents
42:05involving crossbows but what we can't allow is people to just be blasé
42:11we have to draw the line on this somewhere
42:18seven years on laura is still having surgery from the injuries that she sustained from the bolt to
42:23her head she juggles being a single mom to her daughters isabel and ella alongside raising awareness
42:31and fighting to get changes in crossbow legislation laura has tirelessly campaigned over the past few years
42:39she's a very very strong individual probably one of the strongest women i've ever met to be honest
42:47she's trying to make a positive out of a horrible traumatic incident i don't think many people could
42:56have gone through what she's been through and put her own trauma out there for everyone to hear and know
43:03about just so she can get something passed that could help future generations
43:11if this law can change that's a legacy it's a legacy for for what happened to shane for what happened to
43:19what happened to laura what's happened to their families
43:22i could say to ella when she's older like that that law has been changed because of what happened
43:29to your dad and it's not going to make it any easier but the impact that that would have on other
43:34people as well you know potentially it's going to some people not being able to just buy crossbows
43:40is going to change people's lives shane gilmer lived to help others in 2018 anthony lawrence violently
43:50ended his life ensuring a romantic date with his partner would be shane's last night out
