00:00The defense minister of Venezuela, Vladimir Padreño López, denounced the overflights of US intelligence aircraft near the region.
00:17In Argentina, an investigation has put Karina Mele, the president's sister, in the spotlight of a scandal for allegedly using CIS goods
00:28that were turned into donations for friendly administrations.
00:34And the emergency meeting convened by the Qatari government following the failed but deadly Israeli attack on its territory began in Doha, Qatar.
00:45Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Adelesu Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:58The defense minister of Venezuela, Vladimir Padreño López, denounced the overflights of US intelligence aircraft near the region,
01:09accusing the United States of crippling its intelligence and reconnaissance flights since August.
01:14Vladimir Padreño claimed these operations violate Venezuelan airspace and international flight rules,
01:20occurring day and night with increased frequency, including the use of aircraft like the Boeing RC-135,
01:26designed for real-time intelligence gathering.
01:29Padreño López also warned that these US military activities seek to provoke conflict and justify possible intervention against Venezuela.
01:36He emphasized that Venezuela is prepared to respond to any aggression and call for active resistance against what he described
01:42as an unjustified military threat from the United States in the Caribbean.
01:49One of the types of aircraft that frequently fly over the Caribbean near the Venezuelan coast
01:57is the E-3 Sentry AWACS, an airborne warning and control system.
02:01In other words, it is an air command post that controls several aircraft flying at the same time.
02:07It is equipped with long-range rotating radar, capable of conducting air and surface surveillance, electronic detection,
02:22and command, control, and communications functions.
02:29It offers a range of up to 7,000 km and a maximum speed of 666 km per hour.
02:40These are the types of aircraft we have detected and identified in our flight regions.
02:44And Venezuela's Minister of Defense Vladimir Padreño López highlighted this Sunday
02:53the preparation and reinforcement of the country's military forces.
02:56There were 312 tactical and superior units of our Bolivarian armed forces.
03:03There are many more units, of course.
03:08And we are going to expand this, where the people have approached us.
03:13Not only militiamen who already have military training,
03:19and who also occupy positions in tank crews,
03:24in ground assistance of the Bolivarian military aviation,
03:29in assistance to the Bolivarian Navy,
03:33to the Aerospace Defense Command, that is, militiamen who already have military training,
03:41who have an assigned weapon, but besides that, the combatant corps also came to the barracks.
03:48And Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Hill asserted that the United States' actions in international waters
03:53have created regional instability and should be investigated by international organizations.
03:58In an interview, the head of Bolivarian Diplomacy said the incident in which Pentagon forces killed 11 people on a boat remains mysterious.
04:05Hill noted that the most serious aspect of the situation is that the United States government seems to be defending an illegal act.
04:12This is evident in images lacking reliable technical references that are already causing fear among fishermen and sailors in the region.
04:20And on Sunday, Russia expressed its support for Venezuela after condemned the assault by U.S. Marines on a fishing boat,
04:31considering it a violation of the country's sovereignty.
04:34The Russian ambassador in Caracas, Sergei Melik Bagdasarov,
04:37warned that these operations directed against the Bolivarian nation put peace and regional stability at risk.
04:43The Russian diplomat confirmed on behalf of its government that the Caribbean should be a region of peace, cooperation and good fellowship.
04:49The ambassador assured that Russia supports Venezuela's sovereign right to manage its own resources and to guarantee the security of its territory,
04:58and reaffirmed that the only path to lasting stability is respect for international law and an end to external interference.
05:07And Honduran President Xiomara Castro ordered political parties to refrain from placing propaganda messages in the Chelato Ucles National Stadium.
05:19Regarding the display of a banner referencing candidate Risi Moncada,
05:23the President emphasized that the national stadium should be a venue for civic celebrations, not political activities.
05:29This stressed the importance of national unity during this significant time for the country.
05:33President Castro insisted on fair play and democratic confrontation during the election campaign.
05:38These measures indicate that no executive privileges are dedicated to any political organization.
05:44the military control of the country from the country will be part of the country.
05:45This increased significantly.

05:55We'll be right back, stay with us.
05:57Welcome back. In Argentina, an investigation has put Karina Millet, the president's sister,
06:19in the spotlight of a scandal for allegedly using six goods that were turned into donations
06:23for friendly administrations. The investigation was released this Sunday by a national media
06:28out of the states that Karina Millet, secretary general of the presidency of Argentina, allegedly
06:33used leftover customs seizures to favor regional governments, friendly non-governmental organizations
06:38and members of the Libertad Advanza movement. The distribution of these items, which range
06:44from automobiles to clothing and perishable food, is nothing new and has always been done.
06:49However, this time there are two key differences. The first is that President Millet had promised
06:54to put an aim to these practices. And the second, and more important, is that these donations
06:58ended up in the hands of friends or allies of Secretary Millet.
07:08Also in Argentina, the workers at Garaghan Hospital continued their struggle against the policies
07:12of President Javier Millet's vetoes of laws that aim to defund education and public health.
07:17Our colleague Fabian Restivo with the details.
07:21The physicians at Garaghan Hospital continue their struggle. Once again, President Javier Millet
07:27has vetoed their budget and they must continue the fight. But the professionals, together with
07:32patients and family members, have decided on another form of resistance, a party.
07:37We are celebrating that the hospital is still standing, and that all the people who organize
07:44this festival, are workers who are dedicated to healthcare, and today we want to celebrate
07:48ourselves. The space was designed for children. To share and continue explaining and entertaining.
07:56Because I support Garaghan with all my heart. It touches me very closely. My niece was hospitalized
08:04there and they saved her life. I went several times to perform at Garaghan at the kindergarten.
08:10I believe we have to support them with what we have with our tools. In my case as a clone.
08:16Those who can do something else, and so together we put our hearts into this, because what is
08:20happening is truly terrible. The question that needs to be asked is basic and urgent, what
08:27they expect from Wednesday's march. We expect a massive mobilization. We believe
08:35that there will be a huge response from society because they support the demand we are making
08:39and this time. We are also joining forces with the public university, which is another sector
08:45affected by the president policies, so we believe it will be a historic day. Where it will be
08:50demonstrated that the vetoed party is the government, not Garaghan, not the university and not public
08:55health. Among those present, there are some who have other reasons of their own.
09:06I am here primarily because Garaghan was everything to me. My son was ill and hospitalized in 1994.
09:15We transferred him from a private clinic to Garaghan. He was born in the capital, but due
09:21to medical malpractice, he ended up at Garaghan, thank God. At Garaghan, they did everything
09:29possible and impossible to save him. He was in intensive care for seven months. He had a
09:35strong will to live. They didn't move him from the neonatal unit to pediatrics, and for the doctors
09:42it was encouraging to have someone who wanted to live beyond his diagnosis, which was terrible.
09:49I think that's something strong enough to always be present for everyone.
09:52So, what are the Garaghan professionals asking for? What do the Garaghan professionals want?
10:02We want to continue celebrating public health, continue celebrating our profession. We enjoy
10:08being involved in our work, being in the hospital, with the children we work with. I don't know if
10:12it's something we enjoy, being out on the streets fighting, but it makes us very proud. I mean,
10:17one thing doesn't contradict the other. And to better understand the current situation,
10:27let's look at more details in the context of the protests taking place in Argentina against
10:30the fetal laws of President Javier Molay. The Argentine health care system is mixed,
10:38decentralized, and universal, comprising the public system, social security, and private health care.
10:44The public system functions as the cornerstone of care for vulnerable sectors, and has more than
10:501,500 hospitals, and 8,000 primary care centers. The Ministry of Health coordinates at the national
10:56level, while the 24 provincial jurisdictions are responsible for local management.
11:04Since Javier Molay took office in 2023, fiscal adjustment policies have been implemented,
11:09including budget cuts and vetoes on key public health legislation. For example, the veto of the
11:15pediatric health emergency law, approved by a majority in Congress, has halted essential budget
11:21increases for the Garahan Hospital, and other children's hospitals. This has resulted in a real
11:26decrease of 54 percent in the Garahan budget in 2025, affecting the quality and capacity of care.
11:32The hospital has faced layoffs, resignations, wedge delays, and precarious working conditions,
11:39especially for medical residents, whose training has also been affected by Resolution 2109 of 2025,
11:46which makes their working conditions precarious. These policies have led to protests and massive
11:52strikes by workers and professionals at Garahan, as well as social mobilizations demanding the repeal of
11:58the vetoes, and greater investment in public health. These measures have a serious social impact,
12:06restrictions on access to treatment, reduction in preventive campaigns, and the suspension of
12:11essential public health programs. Vulnerable populations, who depend on the public system,
12:17face a deterioration in health care quality, and an increase in health risks, especially children.
12:22Recent protests at the Garahan Hospital, not only defend the continuity of pediatric health services,
12:29but also denounce a political model that prioritizes economic adjustment over the right to health.
12:34The crisis highlights the tension between neoliberal policies and social rights in Argentina,
12:39with a critical public health care system in danger under the current government.
12:43The current crisis, precipitated by President Millet's vetoes and cuts, and strongly manifested at the
12:52Garahan Hospital, reveals how fiscal adjustment decisions affect staff working conditions and
12:57access to essential health services, putting universal rights and social inclusion in health at risk.
13:03Moving on, on Monday, China responded to the coercive actions of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization by
13:11warning them that its economic, commercial, and energy cooperation with all countries, including
13:15Russia, is justified, legitimate, and beyond reproach. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Li Jin
13:21reiterated that China opposes the use of illegal unilateral sanctions and non-armory jurisdiction,
13:26which are often employed by Western countries at the behest of Washington.
13:29Li emphasized that China has maintained an objective and impartial position in the Ukrainian conflict,
13:35promoting peace and dialogue as the only way forward. Therefore, China rejects the U.S.
13:41intimidation tactics and those of the countries that obey it.

13:59The world's most recent events. Have a partial break. Don't go away.
14:29Welcome back. On Monday, the emergency meeting convened by the Qatari government following the failed
14:41but deadly Israeli attack on its territory began in Doha, Qatar. The Islamic Arab states have been
14:47called upon to respond collectively to what they describe as a terrorist act. However, it is unclear
14:54what political decisions would come out of this meeting. According to a draft resolution,
14:58Tel Aviv's hostile actions threatened normalization. Previously, the host government and Saudi Arabia
15:04urged the international community to abandon double standards and sanction the Zionist regime.
15:08Hours before the summit began, U.S. President Donald Trump disregarded a comment by Israeli Prime Minister
15:14Benjamin Tanyahu and expressed his friendship with Qatar.
15:17On Monday, a huge explosion triggered by the Zionist regime of Israel lit up the sky over the city of Gaza,
15:27leaving 32 people dead in the Palestinian enclave. The attack represents a flagrant violation of the
15:33Palestinian nation's airspace as part of the genocide operation of Netanyahu's army, Gideon's chariot,
15:38to take the city of Gaza. According to the Al-Shifa hospital, palliative services among the dead are a total of 12 children.
15:47Tel Aviv's ethnic cleansing campaign in the region since October 7, 2023, has unleashed a food crisis,
15:53displaced around 1.8 million innocent civilians, and killed a total of 64,803 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
16:01And the final stage of the Tour of Spain was canceled due to the large mobilization in defense of the Palestinian coast
16:11and in rejection of the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip. The events of this Sunday were marked by protesters in the city of Madrid
16:18who were oppressed by police authorities with tear gas while demanding an end to the Zionist aggression against the coastal enclave.
16:25Shortly before, the organizers of the cycling tour tried to change the route to avoid the protesters.
16:31However, the cyclists were forced to stop due to the presence of demonstrators.
16:35From various points in the city, Palestinian banners and flags showed the solidarity of the Spanish people with the Palestinian people.
16:42And in the United States, during the seventh edition of the Emmy Awards, which honored the country's television industry,
17:02actors showed their solidarity with the Palestinian coast and their rejection of Donald Trump's policy.
17:07Spanish actor Javier Bardem, nominated in the category of Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie,
17:13arrived at the event wearing a cofilla or Palestinian scarf.
17:16In addition, Bardem said in an interview that he refuses to work with any entertainment company that justifies or supports the genocide of the Palestinian people.
17:25For her part, actress Hannah N. Bender, upon receiving the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series,
17:31ended her acceptance speech with the slogan, Free Palestine.
17:35These events revealed the rejection of Israeli genocide and the xenophobic policies of the White House by the U.S. artistic world.
17:42I just want to say, finally, go birds and free Palestine. Thank you.
17:48And in general, the armed forces carried out a successful operation with unmanned aerial vehicles against Israeli military targets in the occupied Palestinian territories.
17:57Through an official statement, the Yemeni army confirmed the attack explained that this action is framed within unwavering support for the cause of the Palestinian people and their fighters.
18:06They also assured that the operation constitutes a direct response to the war crimes that the Zionist entity continues to commit against the Palestinian people of Gaza.
18:13Finally, they reaffirmed that attacks against territories occupied by Israel would not cease as long as the Zionist regime continues with the siege and indiscriminate bombings that have plunged the Gaza people into hunger, misery and tragedy.
18:26Chicago celebrated Mexican Independence Day with dance, parades and banners as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
18:41The festival's main objective is to preserve Latin roots and emphasize their influence in the history of the United States.
18:57The main rallies took place in Little Village, a Mexican-American neighborhood on Chicago's southwest side.
19:03This year's festivity is motivated by the massive wave of deportation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Trump cabinet's anti-immigration policies and the increase of police repression against all Latin communities in the U.S.
19:28And the Grenadines has the Garifuna culture, a world heritage rich in traditions, music and cuisine.
19:34Let's see more details.
19:35Garifuna culture represents a valuable heritage that blends elements of the Arawak and Caribbean indigenous traditions with African influences.
19:46Originating on the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, this culture has spread along the Caribbean coast of Central America,
19:52especially in countries such as Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.
20:02One of the most notable features of Garifuna culture is its music, which encompasses genres such as punter, paranda, and sun.
20:12These musical expressions are characterized by their vibrant rhythms and energetic dances that celebrate the life, history, and traditions of the Garifuna people.
20:20Instruments such as the guitar and the drums are essential in festivities and rituals.
20:26The Garifuna language, a unique language with both Caribbean and African roots, plays a fundamental role in the cultural identity of this community.
20:41Through this language, legends, stories, and ancestral knowledge are transmitted, reinforcing the sense of belonging and cohesion among its members.
20:49The gastronomy is another aspect of its culture.
20:59Culinary traditions are another vital aspect of their culture.
21:02Dishes such as hadouk, a green plant and puree served with fish and coconut sauce, and a delicious seafood soup,
21:07demonstrate the people's connection to their land and sea environment.
21:10These recipes carry stories about culinary traditions that have been carefully preserved and maintained through the generations.
21:16Garifuna culture is a testament to resilience and creativity added to UNESCO's representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2008.
21:34Its music, dance, language, and cuisine not only add value to Central America's cultural heritage,
21:39but also provide insight into the diversity and richness of African descended traditions on the continent.
21:44Preserving and promoting this culture will be essential to ensuring that its legacy is conserved over time.
21:49Garantizar que su legado se conserve a lo largo del tiempo.
