00:01Police emergency.
00:03Every night in Britain.
00:05Okay, we'll get police making to you as a grade one emergency.
00:08Officers of the law.
00:10Yeah, that's noted, we're just round the corner.
00:12Clock on.
00:13You'll have to put the stop on tonight.
00:15Unlock the door! Unlock the door now!
00:17To keep the peace.
00:20And protect us.
00:21All right!
00:22I need to get you home safe.
00:23While we sleep.
00:25Police are sensation! Stay right now!
00:27The UNB Red for a possession of Logan article.
00:30I love the night shift.
00:31It's my favourite shift.
00:32I'm not having now.
00:33Oi!
00:34Sometimes it can just go mental for no reason.
00:36Hi!
00:37Can you get a set of caps on here?
00:38Move, move, move!
00:39Hey, hey, hey!
00:41Down on the ground.
00:42We filmed with Gloucestershire Constabulary.
00:45We saw some of the taser!
00:47Shall we have hands now?
00:49Following their 999 response team.
00:51Gloucester Panger 5-9, Gloucester Panger 5-9.
00:54Mates! Move on!
00:55Stay where you are!
00:56Stay where you are!
00:57And specialist units.
00:58What can I go to?
00:59There's more fighting going on.
01:00I'm winning!
01:01Yeah!
01:02Can we have an ambulance, would we?
01:04To show the highs.
01:06Snakes.
01:07Shall we go?
01:08Yeah, let's go.
01:09And the lows.
01:10Got any weapons on you or anything like that?
01:12Weapons?
01:13It's probably Willie.
01:14I'm so sorry, my darling.
01:15Not darling.
01:16Of the night shift.
01:18I love working nights.
01:19It's when you get the chance to catch that old-fashioned career criminal.
01:22High five on that because I join the place to lock criminals up.
01:25That escalated quickly, didn't there?
01:35Even though it is still light, the 999 night shift has begun.
01:40Good evening, Gloucester Police.
01:41How can I help?
01:43The calls are coming in.
01:45Sierra Tango 2, Mayuse State 6-8.
01:47And one with a request for urgent help.
01:50QL, to any mobiles available for a Grade 1, please?
01:53We've had a report that a security guard is currently following a number of shoplifters
01:57from the store.
01:58Any mobiles available?
02:02The suspects have gone to ground with a dog in the shed of a nearby house.
02:06The report of a theft.
02:07I think it was just a piece of grass and furniture.
02:10At the end of the day, we've got to take it seriously.
02:17The security guards had followed after them, pointed at which garden they'd gone into.
02:22When the call came in, we sort of said, oh, it's just another theft.
02:26But it just wasn't.
02:34Hello?
02:35All right, mate, do you want to step out of here?
02:38Yeah, we'll talk to you.
02:39Keep the dog away.
02:40You've got to try and say her now.
02:41Hello, mate.
02:42How was you?
02:43All right, mate.
02:44Right, put the dog away.
02:45Yo, this is mine behind me.
02:46We've had reports.
02:47We've had reports for what?
02:48Put the bottle down.
02:49Put the bottle down.
02:50You're drinking me.
02:51You've gone back in my heart.
02:52Right.
02:53No, you're going to stay there.
02:54Can you have another unit, please?
02:55F***ing.
02:56Yeah.
02:57Yeah.
02:58Yeah.
02:59Yeah.
03:00Yeah.
03:01Yeah.
03:02Yeah.
03:03Yeah.
03:04Yeah.
03:05Yeah.
03:06Yeah.
03:07Yeah.
03:08Yeah.
03:09Yeah.
03:10The situation is getting out of hand.
03:12PCs Compton and Davis need help.
03:15Whilst there was only two of us, I did call for the units to attend.
03:19All right, I don't appreciate how your mate has been...
03:22You dirty little pig!
03:23Both of you!
03:24What's going on, bro?
03:25Right.
03:26We've had reports from staff that have said that there's been some garden furniture's been taken,
03:31OK?
03:32And, OK, individuals match in your description.
03:35Yeah?
03:36OK.
03:37So we've had employees identify you and follow you to this address 10 minutes ago.
03:41That's categorically incorrect.
03:42OK.
03:43Right, OK.
03:44Wait there.
03:45The denial means they have to check with the shop security guards.
03:48The other one who was weird had a bench.
03:49OK.
03:50He was the one that...
03:51There's only two of them or was there two of them?
03:53There's three.
03:54Him as well.
03:55I said, do not get in this back, mate.
03:56Don't worry.
03:57This guy?
03:58Yeah.
03:59I said that's absolutely fine.
04:00Yeah.
04:01OK.
04:02All right.
04:03Stand up, mate.
04:04Stand up for me, please.
04:05Why?
04:06Because you're under arrest, all right?
04:07You're under arrest for theft.
04:08OK?
04:09You do not ask for anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention one question,
04:12something lying in court.
04:13Anything you do say, you might be given evidence, OK?
04:16There was two other males that were inside the house at the time who we suspected were also
04:22involved.
04:23We then needed to really, ideally, wait until we had further units there in order to potentially
04:28go into the house to arrest them.
04:31Arresting them is easier said than done.
04:34All right.
04:35Come and meet, mate.
04:36I've grabbed hold of one of them.
04:44He has then swung and punched the security guard.
04:49Go on.
04:50Yeah.
04:51Yeah, grab it.
04:52Grab it.
04:53The security guard is not put off by the punch.
04:56He's also up for the chase.
04:58Luckily, we had officers who had just arrived as well, so really he kind of had no point,
05:04no way of getting away.
05:06Help him, of course.
05:09We'll find out what exactly has happened later, but for now I'm arresting on suspicion of theft.
05:13The reinforcements have one of the men in cuffs.
05:16You f***ing pigs!
05:19While behind the fence...
05:20Right, mate, you're under arrest for assault.
05:22You don't have to say anything.
05:23PC Compton and Davis have the other man.
05:26Anything you do say may be given evidence, OK?
05:28Necessity for the arrest is to prevent any harm, OK?
05:31It's going to get your glasses.
05:34Two down, one to go.
05:36The first man they came across seems more worried about the dog than being arrested.
05:40Can you tell me what's up?
05:42Can you look after his dog?
05:44Is that all right?
05:45I've got a dog.
05:46I can't have a day.
05:47OK.
05:48Mate, mate.
05:49Get off me now!
05:52Get off me now!
05:54Get off me now!
05:55Get off me now!
05:56Shut up!
05:57You got him here?
05:58Shut up!
05:59I want you to know what's up.
06:00Making sure the dog is taken care of needs to wait.
06:03Get him off me now, bruv!
06:05No!
06:06Get him off me!
06:07Shut up!
06:08You got me closer to your f***ing.
06:10Do you want?
06:11F*** you there, bruv?
06:12Yeah, listen to me.
06:14You kicking in school.
06:15Why are we nicked, bruv?
06:16I don't know.
06:17Get off my thighs, you dirty peed up!
06:19We've got to find this out soon.
06:20Get off my ankles, you dirty peed up!
06:22It's making it worse for myself!
06:23Shut up, you f***ing!
06:25I appreciate it, I appreciate it.
06:26Shut up!
06:27Go on!
06:28Go on!
06:29Go on!
06:30Go on!
06:31Go on!
06:32PC's Compton and Davis now realise they're going to need more help if they are to resolve
06:37an increasingly volatile situation.
06:39Yeah!
06:40Yeah!
06:41Yeah!
06:42Go on!
06:43I got it!
06:44Go on!
06:45Go on!
06:46Go on!
06:47In Gloucestershire, the officers who have arrested three men on suspicion of shoplifting offences
07:01have called for backup.
07:03Victor R22 with state six.
07:06PC Rath is here to help and it's not his first call today about three males causing trouble
07:11in the area.
07:12Victor R22, one of the males is in a grey tracksuit with a toddler.
07:16So we'd had a couple of jobs come in just before this.
07:19One was that a boy had been assaulted.
07:22So you alright with your boy?
07:24Yep!
07:25When I first turned up it was slightly chaotic.
07:28One officer had a male detained on the grass already.
07:31Calm down man!
07:33It's not worth it!
07:35There's another one who's been compliant in handcuffs and then the third one is clearly
07:39struggling with officers.
07:40Who's got a bag that we can get this one into?
07:44Let's get them up and get them in the bag.
07:47One of the males matched the description of a male who was involved in one of the previous
07:52jobs.
07:53So these are probably the same people that had been causing trouble throughout the afternoon.
07:57With four officers now involved, the shift should be able to handle the situation.
08:02Go on!
08:03Please go on!
08:04Put his head down and we'll go backwards with him!
08:06Yeah?
08:07Yeah?
08:08Yeah?
08:09Yeah?
08:10Go on!
08:11Go on!
08:12Do you want to get on the head?
08:13Don't resist it man!
08:14Yeah!
08:15Yeah!
08:16Yeah!
08:17Yeah!
08:18Yeah!
08:19Yeah!
08:20Yeah!
08:21Yeah!
08:22Yeah!
08:23You're firmly arrested for assaulting police!
08:25Alright?
08:26You do not!
08:27Knee colleagues!
08:28Shut up!
08:29Alright, I'm going to strongly advise that you stop trying to kick up-
08:31Yeah, you're a pig shut up!
08:33Yeah!
08:34Stop kicking it!
08:35Yeah!
08:36Yeah!
08:37Come then!
08:38Come then!
08:39Come then bro!
08:40Come then bro!
08:41Let's go!
08:42Let's fucking go man!
08:43Get some leg response!
08:44Yeah!
08:45I've got some!
08:46This guy's totally lost his head and he's now beyond the point of reason and now we
08:51have no option but to use the force necessary to restrain him.
08:55Go on!
08:56Go on!
08:57Go on!
08:58Go on!
08:59Necessary force means using restraints to stop the man kicking them and holding his head
09:03to reduce the chances of being head-butted.
09:05You little blonde skat!
09:06Charming aren't you?
09:07Yeah I am charming!
09:08I get a bad girl bro!
09:10Shut up you little dirty blonde skat!
09:12He continued to shout abuse at us.
09:14It is not nice and it's not nice for members of the public to hear as well.
09:18Get them off me bro!
09:20For you!
09:21No one's helping you mate!
09:22Shut up!
09:23Spit on me!
09:25I'll spit again!
09:27Right you've never arrested for another assault!
09:29Oh!
09:30Another assault is it!
09:31Two times assault by police yeah!
09:33He's then started spitting at us and at that point a spit hood has to go on.
09:37Spitting is probably one of the most disgusting things that we deal with.
09:41Probably worse than getting a punch in the face.
09:43It's...
09:44It's gross.
09:45Even so, the use of police spit hoods is a last resort.
09:52I don't give a f**k!
09:55I don't give a f**k!
09:56I don't give a f**k mate!
09:58Ahhhh!
09:59By the end of this, this person is arms behind their back, handcuffed, legs tied together and a spit hood on top.
10:06Almost trussed up like a chicken essentially.
10:08Alright then secured.
10:09Ahhhh!
10:10I love this!
10:12Ahhhh!
10:13Ahhhh!
10:14Ahhhh!
10:15Don't give a f**k with me!
10:17Ahhhh!
10:18Bro, what have we done though?
10:20With all three men under arrest and contained, and on the way to the station, the next step for PC Compton is finding a home for the dog.
10:28Yeah, so we're going to try and get into a vet if we can.
10:31Right, what we'll do mate.
10:32No, no, no wait.
10:34I'm going to set you first, remember.
10:37To avoid the men kicking off again, each will be put into a separate van.
10:41Sound mate.
10:42Bye!
10:44Alright, cheers mate.
10:45Watch your head.
10:46Oh, there you go.
10:47Don't give me a sauce for a while.
10:48Could be.
10:49Alright.
10:50Let's go back.
10:51Just drag him backwards, drag him backwards.
10:54Yeah, you're a dirty slug, you know that.
10:57Despite all the police restraints, this man won't give up.
11:01Crack on.
11:02Don't give a f**k.
11:03Yeah?
11:04Yeah?
11:05You f**k.
11:06Yeah?
11:07You f**k, bruv.
11:08You f**k, bruv.
11:09You f**k, bruv.
11:10You f**k, bruv.
11:11Trying to headbutt.
11:12Oh, f**k.
11:13He's got his legs tied up.
11:14He's got his arms handcuffed.
11:15And he still managed to throw a headbutt at me.
11:18Got my shoulder.
11:19Didn't hurt.
11:20It's not going to work like that.
11:22I've got the keys to one of them.
11:24Yeah?
11:25Yeah, bruv.
11:26Drag him backwards, yeah?
11:28Yeah, go on there, bruv.
11:29I'm not kidding.
11:30Go on!
11:31Go on!
11:32The officers now have a serious problem.
11:34The spit hood has slipped away from the man's mouth.
11:37Cracking up.
11:38Get off, man!
11:39Get off!
11:40Could have just been a simple shoplifting, but it's escalated to the point where he's ended
11:44up assaulting three to four officers.
11:47I just want you to replace the spit hood before we get him up.
11:49All right.
11:50And it's required multiple units to attend to bring this guy in because of the amount of
11:57physical restraint that was needed on him.
12:00Yeah?
12:01Yeah?
12:02Yeah?
12:03Yeah?
12:04Go on!
12:05Go on!
12:06Go on!
12:07I'll do the head down.
12:09We'll just drag him.
12:10Yeah?
12:11Even though the van's inside, the officers' ordeal is far from over.
12:15Stop trying to trip us up, because the shoes are going to land on your head.
12:18I'll trip you up.
12:19Your mother.
12:20Your dad's man.
12:21Your dad's man.
12:22Your dad's man.
12:23All your .
12:24Yeah, I'll do it.
12:25Yeah.
12:26I'm going to let go of his head now.
12:28Despite the torrent of abuse, it's still the officers' duty to get the man into the
12:32van unharmed.
12:33Get off me!
12:34Watch yourself.
12:36Yeah.
12:37I suspect it was probably drug or alcohol induced.
12:43I can't say that for certain, but it certainly felt that way.
12:46I ain't going to spit, man.
12:47Get off me.
12:48Get off me.
12:49Get off me!
12:50Get off me!
13:06Ahhhhh!
13:10Get off me!
13:13The level of abuse probably should surprise me, but after having been policing a few years
13:25now, it doesn't anymore, and in some ways that's sad, but it's kind of accepting now
13:30that you potentially will be assaulted as part of your job.
13:43The sun is shining.
13:45It's really hot.
13:47I bet those people are having barbecues tonight.
13:50Yeah.
13:52Starting their summer night shift out in the custody van are local policing officers P.C.'s Bailey and Evans.
13:58When's your barbecue on there when you do your own?
14:01I cut the grass last week.
14:03You haven't got any grass?
14:04I know, but there's tufts everywhere, but they were long tufts.
14:07I've cut my tufts.
14:09How long did it take you, two minutes?
14:11I didn't do it.
14:12My nephew did it.
14:13Of course you didn't.
14:14Woman of leisure, aren't you?
14:15Yeah, of course I am.
14:17Normally, we'll put out a couple of vans from our station, so we sort of take it in turns
14:23being the van driver.
14:24Some nights, you could be backwards and forwards to custody all night.
14:30Transporting those arrested back to custody can be a challenging job.
14:34The officers are preparing themselves for a hot and busy shift ahead.
14:38Everyone's out all day drinking, I think.
14:41They are enjoying the sun.
14:42That's the trouble.
14:43So it's going to be busy, busy.
14:44It's going to be busy.
14:45It's busy now.
14:46So it's either going to carry on all night, because it is still going to be warm tonight.
14:52Yeah, it's green though, isn't it?
14:53Or hopefully they'll have all drunk enough and gone home to bed.
14:56Yeah.
14:57Or pick a taxi, police taxi.
14:59It would be nice, you know, on a summer evening to just be in town, everybody being nice to
15:06you.
15:07Just have a little chat.
15:08But it doesn't happen.
15:09Doesn't happen.
15:10Can I ask for any available van in the city centre for some prisoner transport, please, for
15:17a drunken disorderly male?
15:18Victor Alfa Tua and we are on our way.
15:21Whereabouts are they?
15:22PC's Bailey and Evans have received a call to pick up a man arrested for drunken disorderly
15:29in the town centre.
15:30Victor Alfa Tua and we are just about to go to take six.
15:32Is he on the floor?
15:33Yeah.
15:34Oh, which is...
15:35Not very happy, is he?
15:37He's not happy.
15:38Let's have a look.
15:39Stop shouting.
15:40They've arrested Mr. Incredible.
15:53Said it on his t-shirt.
15:54And he wasn't incredible at all.
16:00He's been kicking off with people, he's causing problems to a party further on down the road.
16:07He's been acting all strange.
16:10He's gone to touch with one of these guys' faces for some reason.
16:14Don't know what he's had.
16:16He's been arrested for drunken disorderly.
16:18I might jump in the back.
16:20Yeah, you jump in the back with him.
16:22You'll enjoy that.
16:23We're good mates.
16:25They could do all sorts of things in the back of the van in their drunken state.
16:29So, we always have at least two officers in the van.
16:32And one officer will be watching, you know, welfare for the prisoner.
16:38There we go.
16:40Well, I don't know what he's had.
16:43He doesn't agree with him, does he?
16:45He's got a few lemonades, hasn't he?
16:47He's got more than that, maybe?
16:50He's foaming at the night.
16:51Victor Alfa Tua and one state night, please.
16:54Please.
16:56I don't know what you're saying, mate.
16:58Who doesn't love happy drunk?
17:03You've got to keep an eye on them because you don't know whether they've taken anything else,
17:08whether they're going to become ill.
17:10We're just in custody at the minute, which is our hotel for this evening for this chap.
17:20So, this is where we'll spend the night after he's been sobered up.
17:24Probably have an all-day breakfast and be interviewed for whatever in the morning.
17:31On a weekend night, we tend to arrest a lot of people for being either drunk and disorderly or drunken-related crimes.
17:39Are you going to be all right?
17:40Yes.
17:41Yeah?
17:42Are you just banging that head against that cage?
17:44I'm just worried that you're going to try and bang your head against me.
17:47How are you?
17:48I'm going to get some gloves on because he's dribbling and spitty.
17:58Unfortunately, it can take up a lot of our time.
18:02And I just always think, if they could see themselves now, would they do this again?
18:23And see what the night will bring for us.
18:26Starting her night shift is Rhodes policing officer PC Hammond.
18:31What time has that been?
18:32And already there is a call coming in.
18:34Could you add to any traffic mobiles on this channel, please?
18:37We've had reports of an assault and the theft of a 72-plate black MG.
18:42It's left the scene, currently heading south on Eastern Avenue towards Barnwood.
18:45So, it's a depiction of our victim.
18:47It's an Indian male wearing a black t-shirt, black joggers, chubby build.
18:52Calls are coming through about a suspected carjacking.
18:55And strangely, the car owner hasn't called her in.
18:58Somebody's been dragged out of a car and beaten up by several people.
19:04They've managed to take this vehicle and driven off, leaving the driver behind.
19:10It looks like they're the key offenders.
19:12Information is coming through from the witness about another car they saw at the incident.
19:16Shortly after it drives on, the witness reports being overtaken by this white golf
19:23who looks like he's intent on catching up with the black MG in front of him.
19:28Oscar Tango 5-1.
19:29Oscar Tango 5-1.
19:30Yeah, we're in Gloucester area, keeping an eye out for those vehicles involved.
19:35There were reports of a white VW polo, possibly linked to the incident.
19:40So, we were searching for his MG and obviously looking out for the white polo.
19:47We've just had a hit.
19:49Treated to the city.
19:50It's just hit one of our cameras, don't we?
19:52Nine, nine, activated.
19:54Off camera forward.
19:57All the specialist operations made to the area.
20:02Because if somebody's hijacking a car, it's quite high level.
20:05So, we're going to need the capabilities to get this vehicle stopped.
20:21We've had reports of an assault and the theft of a 72-plate black MG.
20:26In Gloucester, Rhodes policing officer PC Hammond is trying to follow up a call about an alleged carjacking.
20:31Somebody's been dragged out of a car and beaten up by several people and driven off, leaving the drive behind.
20:41The witness who reported the hijacking of a black MG believed there may have been another car involved.
20:47A white Volkswagen.
20:49Just hit one of our cameras, standby.
20:51PC Hammond, as well as the other unit, are in pursuit.
20:55The white Volkswagen has been stopped by the other unit and more information is in.
21:14The people that the VW was registered to have got various links in relation to control substances.
21:23There are links to drugs, but no information on the stolen MG.
21:27The driver has not reported the theft and is still missing.
21:30PC Hammond needs to find him.
21:33By the sounds of it, it was quite a nasty assault.
21:35They've said they've basically beaten this bloke, black and blue.
21:39And for it to happen to somebody and for them not to call in, it's just a bit bizarre.
21:45I'm going to make a few people's brains stick over for this one.
21:50News is coming in that other officers have found the alleged victim.
22:05The chap that we believe we're looking for is seen at the train station.
22:12With officers already on the scene and the man appearing to be uninjured, PC Hammond heads over.
22:19She's joined by PC Lloyd to find out his story.
22:25Just run me through again then.
22:26Where did you go when you bought your vehicle?
22:28I went to the shop.
22:30All right.
22:31How long were you in there?
22:32I just came out and it was gone.
22:36I don't know who took it.
22:37Did you leave the keys in the ignition when you went to the shop?
22:40Yes, stop, stop.
22:41I left it on the sides.
22:42But the victim's story is not quite adding up.
22:46He stated that he had parked his car outside the shop and whilst he'd been in the shop, somebody had gone and taken his vehicle.
22:57Why didn't you go straight back into the shop then to report your vehicle stolen straight away?
23:00Because they didn't have enough.
23:01I didn't have enough for them.
23:02You know, go into the shop to tell them to ring the police if my vehicle's just been there.
23:07Yeah, I do.
23:09What time did they steal your car?
23:11I don't, I can't remember.
23:13I'm all over the place right now.
23:15Where's the shop that your car was stolen from?
23:18I can't remember.
23:19That's what I'm saying.
23:20Is it in town?
23:21It's in town, yeah.
23:22It wasn't giving us descriptions of people involved or how long he was in the shop for or like the time scales of when things had occurred.
23:33Really bizarre.
23:34Really, really bizarre.
23:35We can help you, but you need to kind of help us a bit.
23:39Because, you know, if someone's on your car, that's a crime.
23:43I don't understand what's going on here, I'll be honest with you.
23:46Somebody has reported seeing an incident where the person linked to your car has been assaulted.
23:53Alright?
23:54I'm thinking a bit because they've got enough attitude.
23:58Well, somebody has reported seeing something, alright?
24:01So, we've had an awful lot of police officers searching around Gloucester trying to find you,
24:08trying to make sure that you're okay and that you're not bleeding in a corner somewhere.
24:12So, you haven't been injured?
24:14No.
24:15So, where is it going now?
24:17We're just trying to work out what's going on, mate.
24:19We're just a bit concerned with what you're saying isn't matching up with the information that we have.
24:25Do you see your phone's in the car?
24:27Everything is in the car.
24:28You've got to find my iPhone?
24:29No.
24:30It's open.
24:31What model?
24:32iPhone 5.
24:33iPhone 5.
24:34iPhone 5?
24:35Yeah, iPhone 5.
24:36I'm surprised it still turns on.
24:37He's given us very, very limited information.
24:40It's not thought to go back into the shop to report it to the staff there.
24:43He doesn't want to give a statement in relation to what's happened.
24:47It's all just a little bit bizarre.
24:50I think it's completely...
24:51I think it's completely...
24:52I think it's totally...
24:53Yeah.
24:55Both PC Lloyd and PC Hammond suspect that there is more to the story than they're being told.
25:01The belief between several of us was that this was something to do with drugs and whether this person owed people money.
25:10Has something happened that you don't want to tell us about?
25:13No.
25:14And somebody's taking the car that way?
25:15No.
25:16It's just nothing like that.
25:17The man's story about what he was doing in town is also not adding up.
25:21You tell me you've gone to Gloucester from London to see your girlfriend for four months.
25:25You don't know her surname.
25:26And you don't know where she lives.
25:28It's all a little bit odd, mate.
25:30I've just met her.
25:31I've just met her.
25:32I love her.
25:33He said it was in the Gloucester area to see his girlfriend.
25:37Didn't know her full name.
25:39Didn't know her address.
25:40That kind of backed up what we believed in relation to the drugs run.
25:45From what you're telling me, I don't think you're being honest with us.
25:48I'm going to detain you for section 23.
25:50Miss use of drugs.
25:51Alright?
25:52And I'll tell you why.
25:53The people who we suspect may have been involved with your cargo and miss it.
25:56Yeah.
25:57Are well known to the drug dealing world.
25:59I'm looking for any items potentially that are going to be linked to drug dealing.
26:03Can you understand where I'm coming from?
26:05The two stories don't marry up.
26:08Still not convinced he is telling the truth.
26:10But with nothing to hold him on.
26:12They have to let him go.
26:14But with his car stolen.
26:16There are concerns about how he's going to get home.
26:18Do you want me to take him to somewhere?
26:20You must take him.
26:21Uh, good to the car.
26:22Please go.
26:23I'm sure.
26:24You're supposed to go back to home though with no money.
26:27I'll get back.
26:28How are you going to get the trooper?
26:29You can't get the trooper.
26:30You can't get the trooper.
26:31You can't get the trooper.
26:32You can't get the trooper.
26:33I'll find the trooper.
26:34I'll find the trooper.
26:35He says he'll figure out how he's going to get back to London.
26:38No trains going.
26:39It's 20 to 10 at night.
26:41He's not going to get himself back to London any time soon.
26:44Hello.
26:45I don't know.
26:46So how long are you going to be?
26:47With plenty of action out on the streets, it can only mean one thing.
27:04We'll see you in a bit.
27:05Can you have it?
27:06A busy custody suite.
27:0818.
27:09Seems to be 20.
27:10Yeah.
27:11It's the early hours of the morning and there is a steady stream of arrested people coming
27:15through the door.
27:16I haven't done anything.
27:18We do 12 hour shifts.
27:20You've got to switch on the minute you get in and it's surprising how quick those 12 hours
27:25go by.
27:26Especially on a busy shift.
27:27Okay.
27:28Right edge.
27:29That's that one done.
27:30We're a good team in there.
27:31We'll look after the people that come in.
27:33We'll get them fingerprinted.
27:34DNA.
27:35Let's go and get your joggers changed because you've got cords in your joggers.
27:38Book them in.
27:39We'll put them in the cells.
27:40Get them out the cells.
27:41Yeah.
27:42Just dynamic.
27:43Checking them.
27:44Just generally their welfare.
27:46Another one.
27:47Here we go.
27:48Morning, Christine.
27:49Every day, every night is different.
27:52You never know what's coming through the door.
27:55Oh, it's email.
27:56Cheers buddy.
27:57Bye.
27:58File to provide.
28:01A woman has been brought in having refused to take a roadside breath test.
28:06She will be given the opportunity to provide again.
28:09Primarily what we're going to do is we're going to put you on the station breath test machine.
28:12Okay.
28:13So that you can give an evidential sample to point out how much alcohol is inside your system.
28:17And if I refuse that, how long are you going to hold me?
28:19Until you're basically, I believe that you're sober enough to leave, okay?
28:23Officers arrested the woman in the town centre after they were called by members of the public
28:28who reported a vehicle crashing into a number of parked cars.
28:32What's the maximum you can hold me?
28:34I can keep you for us to 24 hours, but I doubt you very much that you'll be there that long.
28:38I know that.
28:40When they arrived at the scene, the woman driver was stood outside her car,
28:44which was on three wheels and badly damaged.
28:48Do you want us to get you some more clothes and we can go get you changed?
28:51Yeah.
28:52No.
28:53The officers remove any items in case they can cause harm.
28:56Make a bag of miscellaneous.
28:58Just take your sock out your hair for me.
29:00Nobody needs to come out.
29:01Are you going to hold me longer if I don't take it out?
29:02It doesn't work like that, no.
29:03It has to come out.
29:04It's 24 hours, do you think.
29:06Can you take your hairband out for me?
29:08No, do you think.
29:09Are we taking it out?
29:10You either take it out or we take it out by force.
29:13Okay, by force then.
29:16A lot of the detainees being booked in will play up.
29:21If they're not happy about being arrested on the streets,
29:24what stops them from playing up once they're inside?
29:26Watch.
29:27Can I put your shoes off for me, please?
29:31In their eyes, they've got nothing to lose.
29:33It can be a challenging time at times.
29:35See him.
29:36Get your thing out of my face.
29:37See him.
29:38Sorry, small?
29:39Small, yeah.
29:40Well, I'll take it out of my face.
29:42Go on then.
29:43Listen to my colleague.
29:44Do it then.
29:45No, no.
29:46My colleague is next to you.
29:47Do it.
29:48You're under investigation.
29:50Do it.
29:51You're going to take it out of your face.
29:52That's fine.
29:53You carry on talking.
29:54Do it.
29:55You're going to buck me up for getting in my face.
29:58Do it.
29:59We do get a lot of abuse.
30:00It's part and parcel of the job, I'm afraid.
30:03The team that I'm on, we've been doing it a long time.
30:05We know not to get stressed.
30:08Getting stressed is not going to help anybody.
30:10Do you agree to apply two specimens of breath for analysis?
30:12No.
30:13Because I feel intimidated.
30:14Because you feel intimidated?
30:16Yeah.
30:17A minute ago, you were just shouting at us.
30:19I failed to provide on the evidential breath machine.
30:22They won't blow down the tube properly.
30:24All sorts of excuses not to give a breath reading.
30:27I was bullied on the road.
30:29Why were you bullied on the road?
30:30I tried to give you three on the road and you couldn't accept that.
30:33The reason I didn't work on the road side is because you didn't blow into it.
30:36And I warned you every time.
30:37I tried to.
30:38You couldn't accept it.
30:39They think they're going to get away with drink driving.
30:44What they don't realise is that a fail to provide is an automatic ban.
30:48Do you realise you're going to end up losing your driver's licence?
30:50I don't care.
30:51OK.
30:52In that case, you'll be charged with fail to provide.
30:54That's fine.
30:55OK.
30:56Right.
30:57Have we got a sell for this one?
30:58You can take my driver's licence.
30:59You can't take my life.
31:00I don't care.
31:01OK.
31:02In the Section 10 of the Road Traffic Act, you'll be going to your cell until I believe
31:05you're sober enough.
31:06I want my sister a run.
31:08And I'm cold.
31:09OK.
31:10Well, I've given you a jumper.
31:11We've got some more clothes for you.
31:12Then give me a blanket.
31:13We're going to get you a drink.
31:14We're going to get you a blanket.
31:15We have to give you a blanket now.
31:16We have to give you a reading material.
31:17And a drink.
31:18We've got reading material.
31:19And something to eat.
31:20OK.
31:21And a warm environment.
31:22OK.
31:23And you'll get all of those things.
31:24They know the law better than the custody sergeants and us and what we know.
31:28They all know more than us.
31:30They're not going to win.
31:31They're better off coming in, cooperate, get your head down and you'll be gone.
31:37So you see that he's stepping to the cell right in a t-shirt, bare legs.
31:52And this guy threatening me.
31:53Right.
31:54Come on.
31:55Let's go to yourself.
31:56Come on.
31:57Come on.
31:58Come on.
31:59Come on.
32:00Come on.
32:01Come on.
32:02Come on.
32:03Come on.
32:04Come on.
32:05Come on.
32:06Come on.
32:07Come on.
32:08Come on.
32:09Come on.
32:10You go.
32:11Come on.
32:12You just have to show around really see what to what we come across.
32:18Rhodes policing officer PC Hammond is still on patrol on the streets of Gloucestershire.
32:24can literally be one way or the other a lot of the time you'll have a busy sort of start of shift
32:31and then things calm down from there and then it all goes wrong
32:37but that's when the caffeine comes in and the occasional chocolate bar
32:42but there is no time for a coffee as a grade one call is coming through
32:47we're on the way to a domestic way apparently something happened earlier in the evening but
32:53now this person involved is threatening to know put the address with the machete reports of weapons
32:59are always taken seriously taser is going to be your friend on this job uh keeping that distance
33:06between the person that's possibly going to have a knife and trying to keep them beyond arm's length
33:14for yourself and for anyone in the area
33:17i think we're going to be first
33:31pc hammond is joined by pc lloyd to interview the female that put the call in
33:36right my partner's upstairs you okay the woman gives her side of the story she's concerned for
33:44her safety can you let me know yeah yeah keep the front door locked as long as we've gone
33:52i won't say the deal i won't say we'll wait till the other unit get here and then we'll go
33:56okay this chap's turned up at the address with a hammer and smashed the window since that's happened
34:05he's threatened to come around here with a machete so we're just going to wait for the other unit to
34:10to turn up here and then we'll go with i think the dog unit's on the way as well and we'll go and
34:16try and do an arrest attempt on this chap
34:17the other unit have just attended so um is the dog unit far away as it is a great one
34:31backup units are on their way to the male's address if he has got these weapons
34:37this mention that he uses cocaine as well so if he's been using that he's going to be playing the big
34:43man so we'll have a dog and see where it goes from there
35:01all right in gloucestershire pc hammond and pc lloyd attended a call from a female who had been
35:08threatened you okay this chap's turned up at the address with a hammer and smashed the window
35:15since that's happened threatened to come around here with a machete
35:20all units have reached the address where the man is believed to have gone
35:25but with reports of a weapon they are not taking any chances
35:28that's the place all right all right so are you going to come down or we're going to be forcing
35:52the door mate open them okay hey i'm coming out but that's fine then all right where are you coming
36:06out from then he may be coming out but the man is not going to make it easy
36:12all right mate what are you doing change your officers here okay so just come out nice and calm
36:25all right good
36:27don't get excited and all that's what i mean
36:30you're not doing anything he's coming out
36:40you're not doing anything you're going to be in your pocket sir no nothing at all no
37:01i've been arrested in relation to the earlier criminal damage on suspicion of he has made
37:06counter allegations as to what's happened that can all be looked into when he's spoken to uh tomorrow
37:14plump yourself in there for now watch it now log in
37:20look off me at the front you know what i mean i don't know you mate i'm gonna run off
37:24well unfortunately that's uh our cuff people is behind the back all right
37:29the friend of the male is more concerned the police want to search the house
37:33they're doing a search on the property at the moment um because i believe it was a hammer that
37:47was allegedly used earlier so they'll see if they can they can find that within the property
37:55with the man under arrest and a search on the property to find the suspected weapon being carried
38:00out pc hammond gets back out on the beat
38:16he came in as a domestic but from further information i don't believe it is domestic related
38:22i think it's just people that know each other from around around the town
38:37it's not long before pc hammond is alerted to an all too familiar vehicle over the radio
38:43any traffic mobile on this channel please can make towards a stolen vehicle it's just the ampl cameras
38:49oh earlier on in the evening pc hammond was dealing with a reported stolen car this was not called
38:56in by its driver i think we've got the vehicle just approaching june's court roundabout could um
39:01traffic join us please they caught up with the owner but when questioned he couldn't give the police any
39:10details stolen vehicle that was on the go earlier linked to that chap that didn't give us any information
39:17he is being followed by the firearms unit at the moment now the stolen car has come back into
39:25the police's radar it's a question of who's driving it which way to go now it's day 436 towards
39:32seven springs we're just going to make towards the area see if we can possibly uh get ahead of it
39:38get a stinger sorted the car's been pulled over by the other units
39:58keen to see who is driving the stolen car pc hammond heads to the vehicle same mail from earlier
40:04lo and behold it's the original driver of the vehicle that is now behind the the wheel heading
40:14back to uh back to london i think a vehicle idea to ring the police and say i have my vehicle back
40:20the driver claims his girlfriend got a call saying where the car was and that the key was under the
40:25wheel there's not many people that are that lucky in getting the car back when it's been stolen a couple
40:31of hours earlier obviously an awful lot more to this than what is killing us again the man doesn't
40:37seem interested in helping the police would you like us to recovery and have it forensically examined
40:43to try and identify the offenders who stole your car no no okay it was basically very dismissive it
40:50didn't want to make any kind of complaint as to to what would happen so just to confirm to me then
40:56the only thing which is still outstanding is your mobile phone yeah and what phone is that uh it's
41:02a iphone iphone iphone 4. you told me your iphone 5 earlier you're trying to remember the story you
41:10told me earlier no it's an old phone i had it for a long time you need to get better remembering your
41:17stories fella how often do you visit gloucester oh it's a week quite often there's there's more
41:28to this story you're not telling us i know why you've come down here you know why you've come
41:32down here you don't get your car stolen in gloucester and miraculously manage to get it
41:36back within a couple of hours later and they take your iphone 5. that doesn't happen mate bottom line
41:42you can be surprised what you want that's not the truth and you know it just as much as i do
41:46getting nowhere fast with further questioning the man they search his vehicle we think there's
41:53something going on with drugs in relation to this vehicle and this person so we're just doing a section
41:5723 search of him and the vehicle there's a lot of decent hiding places in these cars we'll have
42:04looked the best we can and hopefully we'll find something can you contact your girlfriend to find
42:13out who's called her about where your stolen vehicle was i still can't work out how they've got
42:22her mobile number that's what i don't understand well there's a lot of your story that doesn't add up
42:29isn't there i'll tell you how they got your mobile it's because you all know each other
42:33isn't it because somebody won't be able to get my wife's phone number one if they didn't know her
42:42what's your uh what's your girlfriend's phone number
42:49i mean you can't remember thank you yeah she rang it earlier from a phone box
42:54it appears to pc hammond that she was not the first person to search this vehicle today
43:06you see the bit in here has been removed beyond center console and there lots of little bits of green
43:14that appear to be cannabis remnants would definitely say it looked like it had been turned over it
43:21somebody had done quite an in-depth search on the vehicle i would say they quite clearly knew where
43:27items would have been hidden and they've gone straight for them and they've got what they want
43:33even though there are signs of drugs in the car after consideration it's decided that there's not
43:38enough evidence to pursue criminal charges you're going to go into london now that you've been robbed of
43:45your drugs and you've got your car back all right you don't want to provide us a statement or anything
43:50like that then you crack on and get on your way all right don't come back to go sir well aware that
43:56that we know that it's been coming through so i mean we know the car will be keeping an eye out for future
44:03but he's not getting away scot-free you're not saying anything you're going to harm me on your defense
44:12court you're not measuring no questions you later arrive in court it crossed over the solid white
44:18lines at some point when he was being followed by the police car
44:26it was issued a traffic offense report so that'll be another three points on his license and a fine
