00:00I'm Sharif, the owner of The Shed, home of Second Chances.
00:30I was a former employee, had the privilege of being a former employee of The Green Shed
00:42for seven years and it stemmed from there, just replacing cheap items with nice antique
00:49quality made items and just grew from there.
00:52I did grow up with nothing, like I had wax cardboard over the holes in my shoes, no joke.
00:58So for me, taking a truckload of stuff and throwing it off that landfill, it really affects
01:02me and I can't do it and so, I understand charities in Canberra are full, I get it, we only have
01:08limited space, I totally understand it, there's nothing to dig on any other charities in Canberra,
01:13I totally support every other charity in Canberra and wish them well, just trying to keep everything
01:18out of landfill and give it opportunity for families in need who are struggling in Australia
01:22at the moment, which is so many, a good chance to get ahead and replace their items or get
01:28free kids books or free textbooks for the uni students or free linen, you know, free towels,
01:33like anything that we can do at the moment to help, we'll try.
01:38Anything that wasn't accepted, because they were full, I started putting in a spare truck
01:42that I had at home and then Sight Shed came along and started packing that up and then another truck
01:48and I was like, okay, whoa, whoa, whoa. So I started setting up to try to do a yard sale,
01:53I was like, then this building came along, so they didn't even get to do a yard sale and I started
01:58bringing everything in here and I was just, there's a lot. I didn't actually realise how much I could
02:03pack into these places, you know. So it's all set now, we're open this Saturday from eight to three
02:09and fingers crossed the community supports it. If it supports it, I'll support the community as much
02:13as possible. They're not using them anymore, there's a shift in cultures as well, you know,
02:19people are not going for the dark brown furniture, heavy furniture, they want the white slim lined box.
02:26So that's what people are going to for some reason. So the country towns are still going for the
02:31beautiful hardwoods, the pines, everything like that, they're lovely, but unfortunately the apartments
02:36and everything like that, that it's not built for this furniture anymore, which is really sad.
02:40So yeah, it's just a shifting cultures and designs and everything like that, I feel.
02:47I do want this to be a proper, a proper thing in Canberra, but I want it to be bigger and better and
02:54shape up.
