00:01What is that?
00:02I have this idea, right?
00:03You take one of our trucks and find a way to make it float.
00:06A customer called you and said,
00:07I want to turn a truck into a boat.
00:08No.
00:09I'm kind of going to take it upon myself
00:11to make sure that someone in my family sells it.
00:13That thing is never going to work.
00:15This is not a train wreck, it's a shipwreck.
00:17Just sell the thing, okay?
00:19I mean, you just blew a $300,000 deal.
00:22What do you know about that?
00:24Everybody knows about that.
00:25We have a $350,000 project
00:28on this new Land Rover Defender 6x6.
00:30And out of nowhere, it fell through.
00:32You're going to find me a buyer.
00:33Stop it, let's take a ride.
00:35This is the biggest test drive of my career.
00:41Boat truck, going in the water today.
00:43You guys ready?
00:44You need provisions if we get stuck out at sea.
00:46If it doesn't float,
00:48this would just be a tremendous waste of time and money.
00:50Here we go.
00:51Oh, we got a problem.
00:55We're running!
00:56It worked!
00:57So I want to get all six wheels and tires on,
01:10see if we ended up with the right amount of distance,
01:12if our measurements were right between the back two.
01:14And then the front two,
01:16I already know we're going to have to hack away at that thing.
01:18I just want to see how much before we start making a fender.
01:21Sounds good.
01:22Right on.
01:24Good there?
01:25I can't wait to see this thing on big shoes.
01:28We've been in the new facility for a couple months now.
01:31Everybody's getting a new groove of things.
01:33We're cranking out the damn near 20 cars a week.
01:36We've also got a couple really custom one-off projects.
01:39I've got this one for Frankie's customer.
01:41It's the first ever new body Defender 6x6.
01:45The old model Defender is kind of like a cult following,
01:47and it went away for a long time.
01:49They just brought it back,
01:50but nobody's really done anything with them.
01:52I haven't seen anybody lift them.
01:53The suspension is pretty complicated in these things.
01:55We're going to go ahead and make it a six-wheeler.
01:57When I'm finished with this thing, it'll be 350 grand.
02:00Look how much better this truck looks now.
02:03As soon as the wheels go on it,
02:05now it looks like an apocalypse truck.
02:07We've got a pretty elaborate bumper.
02:11Real wild, a lot of spikes.
02:13I'm going to come right away across,
02:15just tuck right below the headlight.
02:17Aluminum, like two and a half inches.
02:19And just use the pipe bender on it.
02:21Cool. Thanks, man.
02:25We've been working on this Defender for a couple weeks now.
02:27We're on the home stretch,
02:28and now it's time to start thinking about what's next.
02:31The reason we're successful
02:32is that we always go for a bigger build, right?
02:34We take our last idea,
02:35and if your new idea doesn't kill your last idea,
02:37somebody else will.
02:38So we always got to come up with what's next.
02:40I've got something I think we'll just get the car market talking.
02:45Clear the middle up a little bit
02:46because we're going to bring the pontoon in here.
02:48Perfect.
02:54Look at these things, huh?
02:56Holy .
02:59So I had this idea.
03:00I thought, how cool would it be
03:01if we could take one of our trucks right into the beach?
03:05So we're going to turn this truck into a boat.
03:07Oh, boy.
03:08All right, we're going to make it float.
03:09I want it to be a drivable truck
03:11that you can just go down the boat ramp, and off you go.
03:13Now, how much flotation
03:15and how much displacement and all that
03:17to make a 5,000-6,000-pound truck float?
03:20I'm not sure yet, but...
03:21That's where you come in.
03:23I mean, I've seen you guys turn a truck from, you know,
03:25four wheels to six wheels,
03:26do all kinds of crazy stuff.
03:28I don't think this is going to be as wild as you think.
03:30Not for this crew.
03:31Don't jinx it again, please.
03:32This is what we do.
03:35This is what we're known for.
03:37We build stuff that you look at and say, how?
03:40And why?
03:41Did you have to?
03:43Think about it.
03:44If we make it go with the gas pedal,
03:46turn with the steering wheel,
03:47and float without having to do too many steps
03:49when you're going in the water,
03:50it'd be a really fun project.
03:51Sounds awesome.
03:53We'll start with the Gladiator
03:55and make it as big as we can.
03:57Big lift, big tires.
03:59For flotation, we're going to fabricate a bow
04:02and we're going to attach
04:03these two salvage pontoons I bought.
04:05For propulsion, I'm thinking of
04:07propeller attachment for the drivetrain,
04:09and for the steering,
04:11possibly a rudder that turns with the steering wheel.
04:13So you drive this thing
04:14just like you would the regular car.
04:16This is going to be a real challenge.
04:18We've never done a boat before.
04:19Last thing I want to do
04:20is sink a bunch of time, money, and effort
04:21into something that ends up sinking in the canal.
04:24You said you saw this floating?
04:26Yeah.
04:27When it was new or, like, recent?
04:28Well, in a photo.
04:29Oh.
04:33Try this thing down a little bit, guys,
04:34so we can get out of the scope.
04:36Right now we're trying to put
04:37the biggest lift possible
04:38so we can make tons of room for flotation.
04:40I'm going to run the parts department
04:42for the lift kit.
04:43We need all the room we can get at the same time
04:45and it has to clear the ground
04:46and still go over a little bit of terrain
04:48to get to the water.
04:51What's up, Chris?
04:52How are you?
04:53Doing my thing.
04:55Hey, Felix.
04:56Hey.
04:57This looks great.
05:02All right.
05:03Where's Joe?
05:04Is Joe here, Kev?
05:05He was just here.
05:08Well, they're disassembling this one.
05:10Which one is this?
05:12Kev, what are we doing to this one?
05:14Uh, trying to make this thing a boat.
05:16Oh.
05:17No, you're not.
05:18What do you think?
05:20You're making it a boat?
05:21Not exactly.
05:22A customer called you and said,
05:23I want to turn a truck into a boat.
05:25No.
05:26Nobody bought it.
05:28So this is for you?
05:29I mean, somebody's going to buy it eventually.
05:31I cannot believe you're actually doing this.
05:33Dad, are we in trouble?
05:36I feel like we're in trouble.
05:37It's going to be fine.
05:38She's going to love it.
05:39I can't believe you don't have a customer on it
05:40and you're doing this.
05:41No, I need this.
05:42I need this truck.
05:43What's the plan?
05:44I basically would grab like a pontoon boat
05:46and smash it together with this truck.
05:48Put some gigantic tires on it.
05:50Where are the tires going to go?
05:52Right where they usually go.
05:53Where are the pontoons going to go?
05:54We're still figuring that out.
05:56Of all the stuff you have going on right now,
05:58this is what you're deciding to do?
05:59Without a customer's name on it.
06:01Just doing the math right now,
06:02between the cost of the truck,
06:04the parts that Joe ordered for the truck,
06:06and the 10 guys that are working on the truck,
06:08it's like a $100,000 project already.
06:10Like, we just don't have the time for that.
06:13I'm amazed that you're doing this right now.
06:15People are going to line up for this thing.
06:16Sometimes I decide to build a car without a buyer.
06:18And it's either a hit, right,
06:20and I end up selling 65 more copies of it,
06:22and we'll perfect the soup,
06:24or it doesn't, right?
06:26A few and far between that I miss,
06:27but it happens,
06:28and they end up sitting in my garage at home.
06:30But I can't imagine that I'm the only guy
06:32who's into one of these.
06:33I know you're busy.
06:34I mean, get...
06:35Yeah, well, let me get to it.
06:36I know.
06:37I'll see you later.
06:38Bye.
06:39I'll see you later.
06:41Hmm.
06:42I don't know.
06:43I don't know what your time is.
06:45I'll see you later.
06:46I don't know what your time is.
06:47I'll see you later.
06:48I'll see you later.
06:49Bye.
06:50Maybe you need to take them to go.
06:51I'll see you later.
06:52Bye.
06:53Bye.
06:54Bye.
06:55How are you?
06:56How are you gonna get this?
06:57Bye.
06:58Bye.
06:59Bye.
07:00Bye.
07:01Bye.
07:02Bye.
07:03I think it's Pop-Pop.
07:04Pop-Pop?
07:05He doesn't even know where we work.
07:06He don't even know what he's selling.
07:08What happened?
07:08Frankie says he's a top sales guy.
07:10Why did he say top?
07:11I think I'm the best salesman,
07:12but if you go by numbers,
07:14Pop-Pop ran circles around me last month.
07:16I always run circles around you.
07:17Why are we having this conversation?
07:18No, we're just trying to see the best salesman.
07:19Ted, you're a phenomenal salesman.
07:21I've seen you with customers.
07:22I think Pop-Pop is the diamond in the rough here.
07:25That's right.
07:26Doesn't know how to use the computer,
07:28doesn't know what we do here.
07:29So let me ask you a question, Frank, okay?
07:32I mean, you just blew a $300,000 deal,
07:35like yesterday or two days ago.
07:36I blew a deal?
07:37But he lost a six-by-six Defender, okay?
07:39What do you know about that?
07:41Everybody knows about that.
07:43We have a $350,000 project
07:45on this new Land Rover Defender six-by-six,
07:48and out of nowhere, it fell through.
07:50Guy just stopped answering.
07:51This really sucks, because Joe and Ashley
07:53were expecting this big $350,000 influx of capital
07:58to build other stuff, and guess what?
08:00It's not coming.
08:01You didn't do a good job, Frank, admit it.
08:03I love this version of you.
08:05I've never seen this so angry at me for no reason.
08:10It's a big screw-up on my part.
08:12Was he dead?
08:13He might be dead, jail.
08:15I haven't told Joe anything yet,
08:17but if everybody's talking about it,
08:19I need to go talk to Joe.
08:20I had Defender six-by-six sold, and from soup to nuts,
08:28it's the most incredible build ever, and it was a guarantee.
08:32But guess what?
08:33That changes mind.
08:34That changes mind.
08:35Well, that's what I'm trying to tell you.
08:37It happens.
08:38It happens to the best of us.
08:39Has that ever happened to you?
08:40Absolutely not.
08:41And there you go.
08:43It happens to the best of us, but not the very best.
08:45I'm not disagreeing.
08:46Yeah.
08:47Yeah.
08:48The apple fell far from the tree.
09:02Put it right to 89?
09:0489.
09:04Put you about here.
09:06How much water displacement do we have there?
09:09All right, so 3.14.
09:11After running the numbers and figuring out
09:12how much displacement we actually need,
09:14there's a little equation there based
09:16on how much water you get out of the way
09:17is how much weight you can lift.
09:19At 24 inches diameter, these things are 80, 90 cubic feet.
09:25We're going to keep these pontoons right at 89 inches,
09:27or we're going to cut a little conservatively
09:28in case we got to make some adjustments.
09:31We're going to start about 90 or so inches in,
09:33chop it, right, cap these things,
09:37see how much clearance we have for the tires.
09:39I know each one of these things is about 80 cubic feet,
09:42but less than half, we're going to be in trouble.
09:44So let's get creative as to how we're
09:46going to get them to the side of the truck.
09:48I think we can put some wheel inside the fur
09:50of this nose cone.
09:50Maybe we can get a couple extra inches out
09:52of the back side of this thing.
09:53You got that tire behind you, wheel that thing over here.
09:56So we've done some math.
09:57We figured out how much water we actually have to displace
09:59to float this truck.
10:01But there's no bolt-on pontoons, right?
10:03So now we've got to find a way to attach it there.
10:05So we don't want to shorten up the pontoons too much,
10:07but we do got to trim them, and we've got to clear
10:09the steering, right?
10:10You've still got to be able to turn the wheels.
10:12And you can just barely clear it.
10:15I'm saying it's an extra foot or two.
10:17Are we really going to go that far outside of the wheel?
10:20If it can pull out of the lift, it's still street legal.
10:24They're a little tapered at the front.
10:25We're hoping that'll give us some clearance.
10:27You need full steering.
10:29Imagine you can only turn a quarter of a turn,
10:31and you're hitting these things.
10:32It'll rip the pontoons right off,
10:33and you won't be able to even just make a left turn
10:35on the street, get into a parking spot.
10:37Never mind.
10:38But we're not going to really know
10:39until we get this thing attached
10:40and see how this thing looks.
10:56You and I both know this is 15 minutes of touch-up,
10:59clean-up, grinding, cowboy.
11:00Joe!
11:01Yeah?
11:01What's up, Frank?
11:02What do you do?
11:02I'll take care of it.
11:03Thanks, buddy.
11:04Appreciate it.
11:05Uh, you know the Defender 6x6 guy?
11:07Yeah.
11:08The last payment didn't hit, and he's not responding.
11:11It's like, he just, like, fell off the face of the earth type.
11:14Hold on.
11:15Don't give me that.
11:16Like, this guy's going to just go dark?
11:17He's dark.
11:18He's completely dark.
11:19So the deal's dead?
11:21I think it's dead.
11:23It's $350,000 freaking dollars.
11:27I know!
11:28It's $350,000 freaking dollars.
11:42I know!
11:42There's not people every day walking around want to spend $350,000 on a truck.
11:47I wouldn't have started this thing unless we had a real buyer.
11:49I hate giving Joe bad news.
11:51That's Jerry's job.
11:52But today is one of those days where I have to give Joe bad news, because the Defender
11:566x6 was my baby.
11:58And, uh, it sucks.
12:02This thing is the price of an apartment somewhere.
12:06We hit the ground running as soon as we get a deposit, because this is the difference
12:09between us and the other shops.
12:11It works for us, and it benefits for us, because I turn over my trucks faster, and I sell a ton
12:15more vehicles.
12:16Every once in a while, I get stung.
12:18All right.
12:19We're going to split the fix on this, all right?
12:21I'm going to finish the truck.
12:22Okay.
12:23You're going to find me a buyer.
12:24No doubt.
12:25Find us a little buyer.
12:27All right?
12:28So there's no separations in this barrel?
12:44So we've got the lift on, got big wheels and tires on there, and we've got room to put
12:49this flotation underneath.
12:51Now it's time to build the flotation.
12:53We're dragging these pontoons in, and I know it saved a couple of bucks, bought some used
12:58ones.
12:59They are a little rougher than I thought.
13:00There's little pinholes all over the place.
13:01They're covered in barnacles and seafood growing all over the place, so we're going to have
13:05to clean these things up.
13:06A hair bigger than this?
13:08No, you can catch an edge there.
13:09Oh, my God.
13:10What is that?
13:11It's exactly what you think it is.
13:12We're going to put it on this truck.
13:14Come take a look.
13:15Get these pontoons.
13:16Huh?
13:17Tuck them in real nice on the side.
13:18Jesus.
13:19But what's going to stop the water from going into the engine compartment?
13:22I'm going to make it float.
13:23Only you.
13:24Only you, Joe.
13:25Nobody else could do something like that except you.
13:27Get into it, because you're going to sell it.
13:28I like it.
13:29Yeah?
13:30Yeah.
13:31I like it a lot.
13:32I have to go see Ashley.
13:33All right, man.
13:34I'll see you later.
13:35Good talking.
13:36I started this project thinking I was a leg up on the Defender.
13:37That fell through.
13:38But Pops is super excited about my boat truck build.
13:41And that's good, because he's going to have to sell this thing.
13:43He's the guy who's going to find a home for it.
13:45Oh, you made it.
13:59I just saw this crazy build downstairs.
14:01What kind of build?
14:02I don't know what it is.
14:03It looks, it's got a pontoon.
14:05It's got this.
14:06I told Joe I like it a lot, but I'm not sure if I like it.
14:09I'm not sure about anything that's going on down there.
14:11Oh, I'm sure.
14:12I told you.
14:13What is it, Joe?
14:14What is it, Joe?
14:15Is it a boat?
14:16Amphibious.
14:17It's an amphibious gladiator.
14:19The amphibious truck is a passion project for Joe.
14:21I know it's going to come out great.
14:23But I want Joe to really feel like it was a smart move.
14:26It was a good project.
14:27So I'm kind of taking it a little bit into my hands,
14:30like making sure that it does properly get sold.
14:32So I pulled the family together.
14:34We have sales.
14:35We have marketing.
14:36Got to get everybody on the same page.
14:37We have to sell this truck.
14:38He always wanted to do an amphibious truck.
14:40Well, let me tell you something.
14:41That thing is never going to work.
14:42If that thing ever does go in the water,
14:45it'll be the most amazing product we'll ever develop.
14:47You're missing the point.
14:48Everyone here is missing the point.
14:49Whether it floats or whether it sinks.
14:51How the hell do you market that?
14:53It would be nice if it's truck.
14:54It's the most Floridian thing I've ever heard of mine.
14:56So, truck.
14:57But aren't we trying to get away from this whole Florida man?
14:59Jerry.
15:00It's a national brand?
15:01No.
15:02Into Florida man.
15:03Jerry, the vehicle is in progress.
15:04It is being built.
15:05I love it.
15:06And we need to find a way to get the money back in house
15:09for how much money we're spilling out to build the thing, right?
15:11Even crazier are the money.
15:13Yes, it's crazy, but we're doing it.
15:14I think it's going to sell nationally.
15:16I can put lipstick on a pig.
15:18I can't make out with the pig, Ash.
15:19Jerry, you can make out with a pig.
15:21I've seen you do it quite a few times in your life.
15:23This amphibious truck is absolutely a go.
15:26This isn't a maybe.
15:27Your comments about the...
15:28It doesn't matter at this point.
15:29It is being built.
15:30Joe is building the darn thing.
15:31Nobody has ever built anything like this.
15:33It is absolutely one of a kind.
15:35It's got our brand on it.
15:37Yep.
15:38You guys are going to do what you do,
15:39and you're going to make it happen.
15:41I think she's right.
15:42She's right.
15:43I totally agree with her.
15:44Oh.
15:45This is not a train wreck.
15:46It's a shipwreck.
15:51From what I see, we've got this panel to go on the back,
15:58finish the trim, and the big orange rack on the top,
16:01and we can start driving this thing.
16:03We've made a ton of progress on this Defender.
16:05I know I've lost the buyer, and it's kind of my own truck,
16:07but no one's going to buy it as a big pile of parts,
16:09so I have to get this thing down the finish line.
16:11But I do like the way it looks.
16:13Meanwhile, I've still got a ton of work to do
16:16under my amphibious truck.
16:17All right, so yeah, we'll clean that up
16:20and give that a weld, too.
16:21Yeah, take a go.
16:22I bet you they rammed this thing
16:23into something at some point.
16:24Yeah, we're going to have to take a look
16:25at the other one also, you know?
16:26Yeah.
16:27Because I think I see some daylight through that one.
16:28This one, yes.
16:29You got another one somewhere.
16:30There's one here.
16:31I've got the pontoons out,
16:32and they're a little rougher than I expected.
16:34The Jeep is around 7,000 pounds,
16:36and I'm relying on these things
16:37to displace enough water to float the Jeep.
16:40So what we're going to do
16:41is pressurize these things in the air,
16:42find all the leaks, and weld them shut.
16:44Yeah, it's not holding any pressure whatsoever.
16:46I'm going to keep running it.
16:49You hear anything?
16:50Not really.
16:51Put it up.
16:52Right here, go ahead.
16:53Found it?
16:54Yeah, right here.
16:55Hold on.
16:56I feel it.
16:57All right, let's seal that up,
16:58see what we got.
16:59This is a Joe project.
17:00I'm not going to go out
17:01and buy brand spanking new pontoons.
17:02These are a little rough looking.
17:03I've got to put some work and love into them,
17:05but I'm sure I can make them air tight
17:07and make them work for this job.
17:15So here's what I'm thinking, right?
17:16Some sort of front flotation.
17:18Let's grab a measuring tape.
17:19Let's come off the front of this thing.
17:20Okay.
17:21I'd rather add another foot to the length of this thing
17:25Yeah.
17:26To give you more.
17:27Okay.
17:28Imagine you're going down the boat ramp.
17:29That nose is going to plunge in first.
17:31You know, the guy that thing starts floating.
17:33It's going to have some angle.
17:34So you think you can mock this thing up on cardboard?
17:36Yeah, I think if we do that,
17:37we can make a small scale model.
17:40The bow is responsible for floating the engine.
17:42So we've got to build a bow that's frame attached,
17:45that'll displace enough water,
17:46that no matter what goes on,
17:48the front's going to float.
17:49This is a one-fifth scale model,
17:51but when I break this thing down,
17:52I got all my pieces ready to go.
17:54I think we got another 50 gallons right here.
17:56We want it.
17:57All right, start drawing that out
17:58so we can cut squares.
17:59You got it.
18:00With the Defender client out,
18:01the pressure on boat trucks even more
18:03because now I've got my resources spread super thin,
18:05I've got two expensive builds
18:07with nobody's name on it.
18:08So I want to do the buoyancy test tomorrow
18:10because if that fails,
18:11I'm going to put the boat truck aside
18:12and move on to regular projects
18:13with people's names on it.
18:17See one right there?
18:18A little bit lower.
18:20Right there, yeah.
18:21If you want to start welding this thing in,
18:23you know what to do.
18:30Look at that boat.
18:31Oh, my God.
18:32That's gorgeous.
18:33Beautiful.
18:34Thank you, thank you, thank you.
18:35Yeah.
18:36Jerry, what's your name?
18:37Irv.
18:38Irv, pleasure.
18:39Yeah.
18:40I'm at the marina here,
18:41and today I got potential customers to meet
18:43and maybe sell them a boat truck.
18:45This is absolutely fantastic.
18:47Yeah, come on aboard.
18:48Check it out.
18:49You sure?
18:50Yeah.
18:51I'm a social butterfly,
18:52and I like to talk to people.
18:53It looks like a guy that knows boats.
18:54Yeah.
18:55We built a boat truck.
18:56Really?
18:57I think it's going to be a winner.
18:58This would be an honor for me
18:59to show you that product.
19:00We're heading back to Michigan today.
19:01Oh, my God.
19:02Send me some photos and a video.
19:03Hold me my luck.
19:04There's plenty of people out there.
19:05I don't need one person to talk to clothes.
19:07Do you remember this place?
19:08Yeah.
19:09They used to have the bikini contest here, right?
19:11My wife was in that bikini contest.
19:12Are you serious?
19:13Yeah.
19:14Max.
19:15Yeah.
19:16I bought an apocalypse for us two years ago,
19:18and he always raves about that truck.
19:19It's interesting.
19:20I have a Rolls Royce,
19:21and I have the Jeep.
19:22Right.
19:23I get more people that ask me about the Jeep
19:24than ask me about the Rolls Royce.
19:25Yeah.
19:26Well, this is Florida.
19:27You know, nobody really cares about Rolls Royces.
19:29He always said,
19:30if you have anything unique, please, please contact me.
19:34I like unique stuff.
19:35We created a boat truck.
19:37Really?
19:38Yeah.
19:39So we took the truck,
19:40and you could actually use a boat truck.
19:41You could actually use a boat truck,
19:42and you could actually use a boat truck.
19:45And you could actually drive it on the street,
19:47and then you come to a ramp over here, a boat ramp,
19:49and suddenly you just drive it into the water.
19:51Never heard of anything like that.
19:52Nobody.
19:53That's right.
19:54And I think this is something that we should discuss,
19:56and maybe I should show it to you,
19:57and give you a demonstration of it.
20:00Yeah, let me think about that.
20:02I like to talk face-to-face.
20:04You know, the one-on-one selling is an old trade
20:07that's disappearing.
20:08Nobody, nobody has a boat truck.
20:12A what?
20:13A boat truck.
20:14A boat truck.
20:15Yeah.
20:16It's not a boat.
20:17It's a truck that is a boat truck.
20:20We sealed it.
20:21It's kind of waterproof.
20:22Okay.
20:23It floats.
20:24That's important.
20:25And it's something that you can share
20:27with all your clients.
20:28What do you got?
20:29Probably a hundred thousand clients.
20:30If I had a hundred thousand clients,
20:31I have my own yacht.
20:32Usually, you put that picture up,
20:34you'll get a hundred thousand clients.
20:35You're very good at your job, you know?
20:37This is a numbers game.
20:38And overall, I would rate today as a hundred percent.
20:43I have three potential customers.
20:45We are gonna sell that truck.
20:47Sure.
20:48So nice.
20:49Drinks aren't bad either.
20:50Ready?
20:51Oh!
20:52Is it showtime?
21:05Today's the day we're gonna put this thing in the water
21:10and see if it actually flows.
21:11We stayed late last night.
21:13We've got the bow all put together.
21:14We've got the main flotation put together.
21:16I'm really excited to see what happens here.
21:19Let's go back with this thing
21:21and slide it in.
21:23What could go wrong?
21:25That's it.
21:26That's it.
21:31All right, forward.
21:34Ooh.
21:35How do you guys look on that back tire right now?
21:38Very close.
21:40Hey, Gus, start coming backwards a little bit.
21:46Okay.
21:47Yeah, come on down.
21:48We're about to see if our measurements worked out.
21:50We're gonna see if this thing actually attaches to the truck
21:52and if all the clearances worked out.
21:54Push towards us.
21:55Little bit more.
21:56Yeah.
21:57All right.
22:01Oh, it's gonna be tight.
22:07Yeah, go, go.
22:08All right, go the other way.
22:09Oh, we got a problem.
22:14Oh, my God.
22:16It looks so much tighter than I remember, right?
22:19You're, like, well inside of the range here.
22:26All right.
22:27Who's got an air hammer?
22:30That's gonna be the only fix here.
22:32Every which way we move,
22:33we encroach on something else.
22:35I think what we do is air hammer the hell out of that
22:37for steering clearance.
22:38So we have the pontoons attached to the truck.
22:40We'll run into a problem.
22:41Can't go back any further.
22:42We're gonna hit the rear tires.
22:43Where she sits now, the front tires can't turn.
22:45We're gonna have to make some room.
22:48There's the right way and then there's the fast way.
22:50Don't need a big ol' hammer for this son-bitch.
22:53So today we're doing it the wrong way.
22:55We can get the sledgehammers out
22:56so we can get this thing in the water.
22:57And later on, we'll probably end up cutting, recapping,
22:59and give them a proper berth so they can swing.
23:01But before I spend any more time and money on this thing,
23:03I need to throw this thing in the water
23:05and see if it's gonna work.
23:06All right.
23:07All right.
23:08Yeah, that's pretty good.
23:09Let's slide her in.
23:17Yeah, I'll be here Thursday, Friday, yeah.
23:20So you got a deal going?
23:21Yeah, with the safari at 7.
23:23So you buying lunch or what?
23:25I buy lunch.
23:26Where's Frank?
23:27Oh, he's in the back over there.
23:28He's been hiding all day.
23:29He's been hiding?
23:30Why?
23:31Because of that deal.
23:32He lost the deal.
23:33Oh, that $300,000 deal.
23:34Yeah.
23:35Frankie!
23:36We got a buyer?
23:37Not yet, huh?
23:38You think you're gonna find a buyer in that truck?
23:41I'm here so that I don't have to talk to you right now.
23:42What are you getting aggravated about?
23:43Let me go check on it.
23:44We'll take his pulse.
23:45Make sure he's breathing.
23:46So I bust Frank's chops a lot.
23:47And usually he busts them back to me.
23:48But at the end of the day, he's still my son.
23:49And I don't like to see him when he's down.
23:51Frankie, it's all good, man.
23:52It's all good.
23:53No worries about any of this .
23:54What are you talking about?
23:55I can see it.
23:56I can see the way you're stressing.
23:57I can see it.
23:58I can see the way you're stressing.
23:59I can see it.
24:00I can see it.
24:01I can see the way you're stressing.
24:02I feel so good.
24:03I'm here so that I don't have to talk to you right now.
24:04What are you getting aggravated about?
24:05What are you getting aggravated about?
24:06Let me go check on it.
24:07We'll take his pulse.
24:08Make sure he's breathing.
24:09I can see it.
24:10I can see the way you're stressing.
24:11I feel so bad.
24:12Why do you feel so bad?
24:13You're hiding.
24:14I'll be fine.
24:15I'll be out there in a little bit.
24:16Let me just make a couple more phone calls
24:18and get back to it, all right?
24:19All right.
24:20Love you, Mooch.
24:21I love you, buddy.
24:22Anything you need, I'll help you.
24:23Thanks, Dad. Love you.
24:24Okay.
24:25Yeah, you're fine on this side.
24:26You're clear.
24:27Let's see if it goes down.
24:28I'm good.
24:29I'm good.
24:30I'm good.
24:31No worries about any of this .
24:32What are you talking about?
24:33I can see it.
24:34I can see it.
24:35I can see it.
24:36I can see it.
24:37Let's see if it goes down this curve, okay, without grinding.
24:40Oh, my God.
24:41I'm so nervous.
24:42I can't believe you're not even nervous.
24:46We're doing a steady 25.
24:47You're also in, like, two lanes.
24:49I am in two lanes.
24:50But, you know, it's boat truck.
24:52I'm just happy you're driving it.
24:54I would never drive it.
24:55Feels like a regular truck.
24:57It's a boat.
24:58Boat truck.
25:00Going in the water today.
25:01I'm excited.
25:02I know it's going to float.
25:03In what fashion is it going to float is really my biggest concern.
25:06Well, I made it here.
25:08There's a high, high, high probability that you just like so.
25:12You guys ready?
25:13Let's do it, man.
25:15All right.
25:16So here's my thoughts.
25:17We take that winch, hook it up to this truck, all right?
25:20Inch down close to me.
25:21I think we've got more enough spool there to find out if this thing floats, right?
25:25I want you to have the remote hooked up, have your hand on that lock.
25:28And if it starts to sink, I'll say, pull me in, all right?
25:30I didn't put much floatation in the rear.
25:32I don't know if I over-calculated the weight of the engine up front, but I'm hopeful.
25:37One, two, three.
25:38Boat truck!
25:39Yay!
25:40That was very poorly planned.
25:42That was horrible, guys.
25:47I sell trucks by having fun with the truck.
25:49That's why I'm here.
25:50I need video, me on boat truck, middle of water, having fun.
25:54Because that's what people want to see.
25:56Before your maiden voyage, you have to christen your vessel.
25:59Oh, my God.
26:00You need provisions if we get stuck out at sea.
26:03Everybody knows I'm a big cultural guy.
26:05You don't put a boat in the water for its maiden voyage without christening her.
26:09Yeah!
26:12Boom!
26:13You've got to shatter a bottle and forget about it.
26:15Let's get this thing in the water.
26:20All right.
26:21We're going in.
26:22Jesse, you good?
26:23Yeah, we're good.
26:24Eliza, you watch for me.
26:25Let me know if this thing starts to float up.
26:27All right, you can straighten out there.
26:28You're good, honey.
26:29Oh, it's awesome.
26:30We have touchdown.
26:31Look, the front tire is locked up.
26:33We're just slipping along.
26:34I mean, they got the winch ready, so.
26:35If it doesn't float, this would just be a tremendous waste of time and money.
26:39Boat truck's going to float.
26:41Here we go.
26:44There, you touched down.
26:45Boat truck is in the water.
26:46We are in the water.
26:47If the nose goes down first, and the engine's shot, and this is a water-damaged vehicle,
26:51it's going to be a total waste.
26:53Here we go.
26:54Boat truck's going to float.
26:55I mean, they got the winch ready, so.
26:57Oh, it's pushing off.
26:58You're floating.
26:59I'm off?
27:00Yeah.
27:01Keep going.
27:02Keep going.
27:03All right, how about the back?
27:04We're still on the ground?
27:05Come on, boat truck.
27:06Hey, guys, the front's off.
27:07Look at that.
27:08Front's off.
27:09The front tires just come off the ground, and we're floating.
27:12We're floating!
27:13It's working!
27:14Two tires are on the ground, man.
27:15I can't believe it.
27:16I dropped it.
27:17I can't either.
27:18Like, how level it is, right?
27:20My cut-off was, is there water in the cabin?
27:22We're miles away from getting water in the cabin.
27:24That's what we did.
27:26Boat truck is floating.
27:28As soon as boat truck starts floating, I put on the internet, and I sent to a bunch of
27:32people who laugh at stuff like this, and they're like, I need boat truck.
27:36How do I get boat truck?
27:37Because what's cooler than boat truck?
27:39Boat truck!
27:40We're floating!
27:41I really thought he sounded insane, but now that we're out there, and it floated great,
27:46and we're chilling, hanging out, I think it's a great thing to actually sell.
27:50Hey, put it in 4x4.
27:51Hit it.
27:52See what happens.
27:53Whoa!
27:54All right.
27:55We gotta think about that.
27:58When we got this thing in gear, those tires are gonna be spinning.
28:00We gotta build like some kind of water shield there.
28:03Holy cow.
28:04This trip doesn't have a buyer yet, but I will say, we've built crazier stuff, and there's
28:09always that one person out there that's gonna be like, I need that thing.
28:13We'll see you in a couple weeks, all right?
28:15Shut down!
28:16Shut down!
28:18Shut down!
28:29What time did you get here to make this?
28:317 o'clock.
28:32We're like, it's done.
28:35Now that we know our flotation setup for the amphibious truck works, we can go on to the
28:39next phase, propulsion.
28:41The object here is to get it to go when you hit the gas.
28:44So it'll go in the water just like it would on the road.
28:46You just hit the pedal, it starts accelerating.
28:49Genius, guys.
28:50Genius.
28:51Most shops, this is gonna be a technical doozy, right?
28:54But I've got an idea.
28:56I've got this patented axle that's got a drive shaft that goes right through it.
29:00It's a tandem pass-through.
29:02The object is the first drive shaft turns, and it has an output on the backside that's
29:06also turning for the next axle.
29:08Instead of it feeding another axle behind it with a drive shaft to make it a tandem,
29:13it'll just speed our propeller, and that'll be it.
29:15Put this over here.
29:18You sure that's the right direction?
29:21Good stuff, man.
29:25See?
29:26Yeah, perfect.
29:27That's it.
29:28It's good to go.
29:32Tight, tight?
29:34Hey, James, make sure she's in two-wheel drive.
29:37So we're about to test the propeller.
29:39We've never done this before.
29:40There's a lot of variables.
29:42It could come flying off.
29:43Right in.
29:44Let's see what she does.
29:45This thing comes flying off.
29:46It's gonna do some damage.
29:48All right.
29:49Ho-ho!
29:50It's working!
29:52Hell yeah!
29:54How fast is that?
29:5615!
29:57It's not vibrating or nothing like a jet.
30:00It looks like this is gonna work.
30:02It's spinning in the right direction.
30:03It accelerates when we hit the gas.
30:04It didn't come flying off.
30:06I don't know anything about fluid dynamics,
30:08but that thing spinning that fast in the water
30:11has definitely got to do some damage.
30:13When we're done with the whole thing,
30:14we'll see if it actually works in the water,
30:15if it provides enough propulsion to move this thing along.
30:17But from where I'm standing,
30:19it looks like it's gonna work.
30:20Oh, my God!
30:21All right, 53!
30:23All right, 53!
30:24All right, that's good!
30:25That's good!
30:26I can't believe that worked.
30:29Let's set this thing down.
30:31Let's get this bottle over to paint
30:32and finish this truck up.
30:42Romer!
30:43Imagine a boat, right?
30:45And the bottom, all navy blue down at the bottom, right?
30:47From there up, white,
30:49and then like a clean red pinstripe across the rest of it.
30:51Sweet. Blue and white.
30:52And I'm hoping this stuff can kind of help watertight it.
30:54Cool?
30:55It's gonna look sweet.
30:56Oh, yeah.
30:57I'll get it to you as fast as I can, man.
30:58All right, take care.
30:59Thank you, buddy.
31:12I spent the past two days doing everything I can do
31:15to try to drum up some attention to this build.
31:18And then last night, out of the blue,
31:20I get a phone call,
31:21and it's a lead on the Defender 6x6.
31:27We're doing it, baby.
31:28I lost a deal,
31:29and I might have made one happen out of nowhere.
31:31Are you Jay?
31:32Yes, I am.
31:33Oh, man, awesome!
31:34Well, here it is.
31:35Come check it out, man.
31:36I brought one of your vehicles last year,
31:38the Hellfire.
31:39Amazing Ludwig.
31:40Oh, you have a Hellfire?
31:41No, I don't know that.
31:42Came down to this quick deal.
31:43Saw you guys post this online,
31:44wanted to check it out myself.
31:45Mind if I get inside?
31:46Please do.
31:47You got to hear this thing, bro.
31:54This is definitely your truck.
31:56Oh, man.
31:57Let's hop in.
31:58Let's take a ride.
31:59The price tag on this truck really narrows who's interested,
32:02because how many people could afford it?
32:03But that's why it's so paramount that I sell it now,
32:07while it's fresh, while it's hot,
32:09or it might take months to get someone else on board.
32:12Oh, it sounds so cool.
32:14Sounds amazing.
32:15You like it?
32:16Yeah, now what's the horsepower in this one?
32:18I think it's 520.
32:20That little gurgle it has?
32:21Yeah.
32:22It's cool.
32:23Am I losing anything with the extra weight, the extra axles?
32:26You're adding a lot more weight to the vehicle,
32:28but you're also fortifying everything, right?
32:30Yeah.
32:31You put bigger wheels and tires.
32:32But it feels like you're in just like a brand new
32:34Carpathian Edition Defender.
32:47Obviously, you're a car guy.
32:48You know, I'm not.
32:49I'm not a car guy at all.
32:50Are you an art guy?
32:51You know, I just like unique stuff.
32:53You know, everything I buy, I want it to be different.
32:56At this point, I feel like it's my sale to lose.
32:59I know exactly who Jay is.
33:01He wants to pull up and people to know,
33:03I know whose truck that is,
33:04because there's only one in the world like it.
33:08And that is how you drive a 6x6, my friend.
33:13So talk to me.
33:14What do you think, Jay?
33:21You got Cheeps.
33:22You got Broncos.
33:23You got 6x6s.
33:25It doesn't end, right?
33:26Right.
33:27If we can conquer everything on land, maybe we can conquer everything on sea.
33:33Is that crazy?
33:34What?
33:35What are these things?
33:37Are these like torpedoes?
33:39Joe built an abomination, and now I have to go out there and dance for these people to try selling it.
33:45It's ridiculous.
33:46I give you boat truck.
33:47My goodness.
33:48Cortland boat truck.
33:50That's crazy.
33:51This thing floats.
33:52This thing steers.
33:53You'll never see anything like this.
33:55Was Cortland actually interested in boat truck, or was he just being a nice guy to me?
33:59I don't know.
34:00This is a little monster.
34:01My gut tells me no one will ever like that truck.
34:05He was definitely just being nice to me, because it's hideous.
34:07Put it on the radar for sure.
34:08I love that.
34:09Talk to me.
34:10What do you think, Jay?
34:11It's everything you could ever think of doing, and it's the first ever new edition Defender 6x6.
34:21Online, you guys said it's going to be a one-on-one, so you guys are done after this, right?
34:25Never been done before.
34:26Will never be done again.
34:27Okay.
34:28All week I feel cursed, and I'm riding high that I have an ability to sell this guy Jay right now, but this is a $350,000 truck.
34:37Is that easy for everyone to buy?
34:39No.
34:40Fully loaded, the biggest trim you can get.
34:43Gotcha.
34:44We cut it, we extended it, and we brought it back to the heritage days of the greatest off-roading vehicle of all time.
34:51So the only thing I'd want to do is add some lights to the front, and we're in business.
34:56Just like that?
34:57Just like that.
34:58Good things to come easy, buddy.
35:00Congratulations, Jay.
35:01Thank you, thank you.
35:02You are some level of awesome, my friend.
35:05I don't know, did I put this out in the universe and it just showed up for me?
35:10You know, like, you take the lowest low and then just go to the highest high.
35:14Dude, best vehicle ever made.
35:18Love it.
35:21Absolutely.
35:22Let's get it done.
35:28You guys excited to see the boat truck?
35:31Oh, yeah.
35:32I can't believe it.
35:33Isn't it awesome?
35:34Look at this guy, rolling and balling.
35:37Get out, we're gonna see the boat truck.
35:39Look, guys, Grandpa!
35:40Oh!
35:41We are here to look at the boat truck.
35:43I have two clients that I thought would be perfect for this opportunity.
35:47One of them is a boat broker and one is a potential customer that bought a truck from us before.
35:52Both of them have opportunities for me to sell.
35:55Boat truck, you ready for that?
35:56Let's see it.
35:57Geez.
35:58I've seen the early stages of boat truck and it was amazing.
36:01I can only imagine what it looks like now.
36:03Let's go see this monstrosity.
36:09I don't see it.
36:10Where?
36:12Where?
36:13Oh, my God!
36:15Look at this!
36:17That's insane.
36:20No way!
36:24Kids, look!
36:25And just like that, baby, boat truck is among us.
36:28I didn't believe it.
36:29I didn't believe it for a second.
36:30And you thought...
36:31I thought you guys were messing with me.
36:32Look at the stance on it.
36:34Even the way she takes the water, it's unbelievable.
36:37Boat truck!
36:39Boat truck!
36:40Boat truck!
36:41Boat truck!
36:42Boat truck!
36:43Oh, my God.
36:44Come on.
36:45Are you a believer or what?
36:46Oh, my God, you did it.
36:48What a job.
36:54What'd you think of that?
36:55That's unreal, man.
36:56I was very skeptical when I heard about the boat truck.
36:59I couldn't imagine how a truck that could weigh as much as a Jeep could actually float
37:03and make it through the water, and I'm blown away.
37:06Gigantic rudder.
37:07It's removable.
37:08You pull this thing off, you can throw it in the tailgate, right?
37:10You don't need to have it with you all the time.
37:11Then you've got this gigantic prop back there, and that's tied right to the back of our axle.
37:15It's a tandem pass-through axle, so as the drive shaft turns, it turns one-to-one.
37:20What am I looking at here?
37:21It looks like a Jeep, but it also looks like a boat.
37:24This is the coolest thing I've seen in a very long time.
37:26I did not pick this name.
37:28That is not marketing-approved boat truck.
37:30How is that not marketing?
37:31It's a boat, and it's a truck.
37:34And they put it together, you got boat truck.
37:37How don't you get that?
37:38I just gotta give up.
37:39What would you come up with, like?
37:41Something that has to do with water and...
37:43Something to do with water and a truck.
37:45I mean, it definitely looks way cooler than when I saw them put this thing together in the shop.
37:50But I'm still, I'm still not convinced.
37:53Not 100%.
37:54You're gonna love it, Mac.
37:56Look, look at this.
37:57Look at this.
37:58Oh, it goes under.
37:59Let's go!
38:00Bon voyage!
38:02I wouldn't believe it until I got in here.
38:05What do you think?
38:06It's pretty crazy.
38:07You wanna drive?
38:08Yeah.
38:09Dude?
38:10Hell yeah.
38:11All right, let's go for it.
38:12Oh, my God.
38:13You guys are changing seats?
38:14Yeah, let him drive.
38:15Oh, my God.
38:17I'll just hang out on here, to be honest.
38:19Hey, do you know how to drive a Gladiator in the water?
38:21I've never driven a Jeep in the water before.
38:24Oh, God.
38:25This is crazy.
38:26You see it out there, are you thinking of anyone?
38:28There's gotta be someone you have in mind.
38:30I mean, I'm not gonna lie to you.
38:31I have a couple people that I think would love something like this.
38:34So, Matt, you know why you're here, right?
38:36Yes.
38:37You're here to buy a truck.
38:38The question is, since I've already got this exact same truck.
38:40Right.
38:41If we could do this to the truck I already have, I'd be more interested in doing that than
38:45buying this one.
38:47Oh, absolutely.
38:48The kit idea's a really good idea, because it takes a lot for somebody to commit.
38:52My car is now boat truck forever.
38:54Bolt this thing on, boat truck for the weekend.
38:56And it's something I can mass produce, and we can sell a lot of.
38:59Just swing by the shop, we'll put it on for you, you're off.
39:02That would be awesome.
39:03Talk about the best of both worlds.
39:04I love this thing, the fact they can do it as a kit.
39:07Let's box it up.
39:08I gotta have it.
39:10Max has got a truck.
39:12He's gonna bring his truck in, and we're gonna turn it into boat truck number two.
39:15Boat truck number two!
39:16Boat truck number two!
39:17Tremendous.
39:19SS boat truck number two.
39:20Go, baby, I'm ready!
39:22I brought provisions, baby!
39:24Let's go with the pilot and everything!
39:27Eat your heart out, Blackbeard.
39:29It's black mustache.
39:30Fire the cannon!
39:33Really proud of the build, because it didn't come out, you know, complex and cockamamie.
39:37It was like a very simple, straightforward, reliable thing.
39:40You know, when you think about boats, you never think of being reliable.
39:43But this thing, you take it in and out and try it over and over, and it never broke down.
39:47Nothing failed.
39:48Really impressed with it.
39:49I congratulate the two of you on the sale.
39:52Congratulate both of us?
39:53Well, to be fair, it was all bad.
39:55It really was.
39:56Today was a great day.
39:57I think we should celebrate.
39:58Yeah?
39:59I think we should all celebrate.
40:00Yes!
40:01Right now, baby!
40:02Frank!
40:03Get down!
40:04Oh, my God!
40:05You're such a maniac!
40:07Oh, Jack!
40:08Are you crazy?
40:10Oh, Jack!
40:11Take one.
40:13Frank, how does it feel like you're relieved that you found someone to pick up to have on that Defender project?
40:18I don't know how it works out, but it's like, you get to your lowest, and then something brings you right back up.
40:23I can't believe that I sold the Defender again.
40:25Wow.
40:26Second time.
40:27Oh, my God.
40:28I can't believe you did that.
40:29Yeah, I finally sold it.
40:30Yeah?
40:31Guy's cool as hell.
40:32Maybe owns a bunch of cell phone stores.
40:33Real cool guy.
40:34Sounds like something I know.
40:35Is it Jay?
40:36How do you know Jay?
40:37I told him to come see you.
40:39Really?
40:40Of course.
40:41What'd you think?
40:42You just walked in and somebody wants to buy the Defender?
40:43I saw him in a truck like a year and a half ago.
40:46Are you messing with me?
40:47No, I'm not messing with you.
40:48Why wouldn't you just take him for yourself?
40:49Because that's not the way I do things.
40:51Oh.
40:52Yeah, because I love you.
40:54Is everybody ready?
40:56Hit those horns!
40:58This weekend is the Palm Beach International Boat Show.
41:02Last year, you did 15 trucks.
41:03I would like to hit 25 cars.
41:06That's the expectation?
41:10The new electric hummer just came out, and we're going to turn this thing into a monster.
41:14There is no kit off the shelf we could buy for this.
41:17We're going to have to make everything from scratch.
41:20See these cars out there?
41:21They're cars that we want to drive over.
41:22Oh my God, Joe!
41:23Fuck!
41:26Joe, I don't like it.
