00:00On September 14, Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki formally assumed charge of the Singh
00:04Gadarbar, entering the Home Ministry, which is currently functioning as the Prime Minister's
00:08office. The swearing in comes after weeks of violent protests and political turmoil.
00:12While Nepal is slowly returning to normalcy, borders have only partially reopened, daily
00:17commuters are crossing with identity cards, but large vehicles remain restricted due to
00:21fire damage at storage depots. Sushila Karki's first move was to convene a meeting with the
00:26chief secretary and ministry secretaries, where she may soon issue directions for reinstating civil
00:31services. Expansion of her cabinet is also on the table, with appointments expected in the coming
00:36days. Karki's elevation follows weeks of protests spearheaded by Nepal's Gen Z youth against former
00:41Prime Minister KP Sharmaoli's government, which they accused of rampant corruption.
00:45The protests, however, turned violent, claiming at least 61 lives. In a symbolic move,
00:49Interim Prime Minister Karki has declared the three young protesters killed in the Gen Z
00:53demonstrations as martyrs, a recognition that has further amplified the voice of Nepal's youth
00:58movement. Gen Z leaders, meanwhile, are urging the interim government to honour their sacrifice
01:03by building a corruption-free future. They are calling for closer ties with India,
01:07framing regional cooperation as vital to Nepal's democratic and economic stability.
01:12As Nepal edges towards normalcy, Prime Minister Karki faces the immediate challenges of managing civil
01:17administration, addressing political dissent and guiding the country towards peaceful elections in 2026.
