00:00Jhansi of Nepal, beware. Your protests in Karpandu, raging against corruption and the social media
00:08ban feel like a fight for freedom. With Prime Minister Oli gone and 19 lives lost in clashes,
00:13you're dreaming of a better future and understandably so. But revolutions like those
00:17in Egypt and Bangladesh often trade one problem for a worse one. New leaders who grab power
00:22and dodge accountability. In Egypt 2011, Tehri Square's crowds toppled Mubarak after 30 years
00:29of corruption. The people cheered but the military stepped in, promising democracy. Instead,
00:34poverty jumped from 25 to 33 percent. Tourism collapsed and protests were crushed. The
00:38Muslim Brotherhood won elections but ruled for themselves, not the people, critics say.
00:42By 2013, a new dictator took over, jailing thousands, silencing the press worse than ever before.
00:48Most Egyptians later said life was worse than under Mubarak. In Bangladesh 2024, not too long
00:53back, students ousted Sheikh Hasina, overjobbed quotas and a 15-year grip on power. But the
00:58interim government led by unelected activists, delayed elections and banned rivals. The economy
01:03tanked, unemployment spiked and the same old nepotism crept back. The revolution's hope
01:08faded into chaos and new control. Nepal, your anger is real but revolutions without strong
01:13institutions, fair courts, free press, clear elections often hand power to those who twist
01:18it. The fire in your hearts could burn down one tyrant only to raise another. We're hoping
01:24it doesn't happen. Fight not just to tear down but to build systems that hold leaders accountable.
01:28Otherwise, your dream of change might become a nightmare of unchecked power.
01:32I'm Manish Adikari. Thank you for watching. First things fast.
01:38Hope you'll see one next time.
