00:06Parramatta Road is considered one of Sydney's oldest and ugliest.
00:10It's time for a little less conversation, a little more action.
00:14Efforts to upgrade the road have been abandoned by successive governments.
00:18Now the Minns government is giving it a go with plans to rezone the busy transport corridor.
00:24This is an opportunity for us to get the settings right,
00:27to turn this tired thoroughfare into one of the vibrant communities that it can and should be.
00:32The planned rezoning, which could deliver around 8,000 homes,
00:35is within 10km of the CBD stretching from Leichhardt to Camperdown.
00:40We will support appropriate rezoning in that corridor,
00:44but it must be matched with infrastructure.
00:47We know that we're going to have to invest in the bus network and the public transport network
00:51as people move in, but that's eminently doable.
00:55The government said the plan would also include a mixture of densities and heights.
00:59Sydney is the 800th densest city in the world,
01:03and it doesn't mean that we're going to automatically turn into Tokyo overnight.
01:07No one is suggesting that.
01:08The reality is there's probably constraints in terms of airport and airline flights over this corridor,
01:13but we will expect to see six to eight storeys pretty consistently across this area.
