00:00the dream is living out in nature it's calm and peaceful it's so nice to take an evening stroll
00:24we're all very in love with the whole farm but not its history
00:31when we talked to the realtor he asked if we knew the story of the farm we said no
00:47we were told there was a man who was killed here his name was frank allegedly he was killed right
00:58here it's not something you think could happen to people you love these four people were behind a
01:09very well orchestrated murder plot it shows a cold-blooded nature i've never dealt with anything
01:15like this they tried to kill frank three separate times i was like what the hell is going on you'd
01:24have to be really sick in the head to come up with a plan like that it's truly insane she's slowly and
01:30carefully drew them into her web but how did she manage to coax three other people to commit a murder
01:36i want the truth to come out
01:39when you're driving down e45 to drisland
02:08the first thing that greets you are the giant rapeseed fields
02:12juristland is one of the most beautiful places in all of denmark
02:19the landscape is filled with lush forests
02:23peaceful picturesque villages and roads that wind through rolling hills
02:29it's a place where neighbors are far apart
02:34if a crime were ever committed you might carry out your day in peace and not be aware of it
02:39no one could imagine that such a calculated murder plot could take place in such an idyllic community
02:49we are definitely not used to so much going on in this small town at least to that extent
03:02not at all yeah so it came as a huge shock uh i guess that makes sense because it's a crazy story
03:10uh hi alan hi how are you did you uh get the loaves i think so i think the grocer has it all under control today
03:19yes it certainly caused a stir
03:27because people were outraged in shock i think right yeah
03:32i first heard about the disappearance of a 40 year old man frank
03:41back in 2022 that's around when the police put out an apb
03:46at that time it was only a missing persons case
03:50there can be many reasons why people go missing
03:56we often see people leaving home in a depressed state
04:00there are also examples of people disappearing because of a crime
04:04there's been this support system made up of the family and friends
04:10who went to the police and expressed to them how unusual this was
04:14frank is someone who always checks in
04:17we can't get in touch with him something must have happened
04:20thursday july 14th i wake up just like any other day
04:37my name is rike i'm 29 years old and i'm frank's ex-girlfriend
04:42we actually had a date that night
04:45i could hear frank and all his colleagues working outside
04:52he'd come up to visit me several times during his work day to steal a kiss
04:59or because he'd forgotten his tape measure or something
05:03any excuse to come up to the apartment
05:05frank and rike were meeting because frank was given a job
05:12as a construction worker in front of rike's house
05:15they'd been checking each other out for quite some time
05:19in fact it was so obvious that frank's own co-workers egged him on
05:23and said to him you need to do something about it
05:27she seems pretty interested in you
05:29a few months went by when we were constantly flirting back and forth
05:34and then frank asked me out on a date
05:37i remember when frank called me to tell me about ricky
05:43how she suddenly became a part of his life
05:46that he had met this young beautiful woman
05:49and he was well i
05:51in the 20 years i've known him
05:53i never heard him so happy
05:55even though we only dated for a few months
06:00we were head over heels
06:01i started to feel like it could be lasting
06:04we talked about where we wanted to live together
06:08that we wanted to have children together
06:11it was
06:11a very deep love in a very short span of time
06:16after frank got off work he had to hurry home to get something
06:31then he was going to come over to my place and cook dinner with me
06:35we were going to have a cozy date at home together
06:39frank never showed up
06:48which was surprising to ricky because frank never missed any kind of appointment or date
06:54i was really starting to get worried because it wasn't like frank to be late
06:59i texted and called him
07:03again and again nothing
07:05then some kind of automatic text messages started coming in
07:11i'll call you back
07:14or send me a text
07:16these texts only made me worry more and i started to panic
07:23because it was out of character for frank to text me without using emojis
07:28it was also weird that he wasn't calling me sweetie
07:32something about these text messages wasn't making sense
07:37they didn't look anything like the conversations frank and i had
07:42he seemed very cold
07:45he just seemed to be emotionless
07:47so i texted and asked what do you mean
07:53and his response to that was he would call me back
07:57but he didn't
08:02look ma no hands
08:05when you talk to people who knew frank
08:16they'd tell you he was charming and chivalrous
08:19he liked women and he was
08:21quite successful when it came to seeking out women to date
08:24he had something about him there's no doubt about it
08:28despite the fact that
08:31honestly he looked like
08:34an average guy in a way
08:37but he never had any sort of issues forming
08:41forming relationships with women
08:44i'm louise i'm 39 years old
08:47i am frank's ex-girlfriend and mother of two of his children
08:50wow you're so strong yeah you're so strong
08:54oh it's heavy
08:55frank was crazy in a great way
08:58he liked to mess with people and make jokes and frolic with the kids
09:05my name is suzanne callison and i'm an ex-girlfriend of frank's and we have a son who's 16 years old
09:12frank uh was always a very helpful and selfless person
09:19he always prioritized helping others whenever he could
09:21because of that he and his family always came last
09:24yeah he was a great person
09:26i'm behind you
09:28isn't it about time you pull it out
09:31out? no
09:33he was the type of person that let's say for instance
09:38you called him at 2 30 in the morning because you're heartbroken
09:42or if something was wrong or you needed to talk
09:46he was always ready to listen
09:48the last thing i heard from him was a text
10:01i can't remember exactly what he wrote
10:03but it was more
10:06do you feel he was being his usual self?
10:08nothing felt off with him at all
10:10i think it must have been about 9 30 pm
10:21or sometime late in the evening
10:23his oldest daughter who was living with him at the time
10:26called me because she just got off work
10:29ricke had told her that frank never actually showed up at the house
10:34like they'd agreed to
10:37his daughter hadn't heard from him either
10:40so she called me to see if i had recently heard from him
10:45i could only tell her that i hadn't spoken with frank
10:49and after that i was pretty worried
10:52i heard about his disappearance from his sister
10:59have you heard from frank? is he with you?
11:03uh... and then not much time passed
11:06i think it must have been within a half hour
11:08when i received a text from his mom
11:11that's when i got really worried
11:14i sent him a text
11:16at first i texted him saying
11:18listen man could you at the very least contact your family
11:21they're actually worried sick about you
11:24i tried calling him a few times
11:27and the first time i tried
11:29the phone made a beeping sound
11:33the other times i tried calling him
11:35it went straight to voicemail
11:37i got really worried
11:49after i couldn't reach him
11:51his daughter couldn't reach him
11:53rike couldn't reach him
11:55it was so unlike him very out of character
11:57and then his sister called and said that his oldest daughter was waiting for him in his apartment
12:07that's when i got a clear feeling that something was really wrong
12:10because he would never leave without at least giving her a message
12:15i know my buddy well enough
12:18something was very very wrong
12:25what it was i couldn't possibly have imagined
12:30it was almost 10 o'clock at night
12:36i remember thinking i should
12:39probably just go to bed
12:41because when i wake up
12:43i'll finally have an answer from frank
12:46and i'd get some clarity on
12:48where he was
12:50i was trying to sleep
12:55but mostly i was
12:57worrying
12:59and
13:02tossing
13:03and turning
13:04and
13:06i didn't really fall asleep
13:08i dozed off
13:09and then i was
13:11awakened very abruptly
13:14i thought it had to be frank
13:17but it wasn't
13:20it was his daughter calling
13:23she told me that
13:25she thought we should talk
13:27and that it should be face to face
13:30she wanted to come over with another woman
13:34i was
13:37i was confused and
13:39i didn't understand what was going on
13:41so yeah
13:44i started making a pot of coffee and
13:53and made sure
13:56there were some refreshments on the table for when guests arrived
13:58there were some refreshments on the table for when guests arrived
14:09it must have been around 1am
14:11and that's when i saw a car coming into the parking lot
14:15that's when i saw a car coming into the parking lot
14:18i saw frank's daughter come out
14:21and then i saw
14:24a somewhat older woman
14:28and
14:32and
14:34i had no idea who she was
14:37it was really dark and
14:40i had never seen her before
14:42they came to the door and i let them in
14:53then
14:54she told me that
14:55her name
14:57was my brit
14:59she asked me if
15:01if i was rike and if i was frank's girlfriend
15:04to which i replied
15:05yes
15:06i am
15:07then she immediately said
15:09so am i
15:10yeah
15:14frank met my brit
15:17six months before she showed up at rike's apartment
15:19the two were in a relationship for a long time
15:21and they had to be able to 18-year-old
15:22and to be able to 18-year-old
15:23with my own friend
15:24and to be able to 18-year-old
15:25to be able to 18-year-old
15:26to be able to 18-year-old
15:27Frank met Maybrit six months before she showed up at Rike's apartment.
15:32The two were in a relationship for a few months before he met Rike.
15:42Maybrit is a woman in her late 30s.
15:46She lives on a property in Nimtoft where she runs a hobby stud farm.
15:50When you talk to people who knew Maybrit, a picture of a very controversial woman emerges.
16:01We're filming here from the stables today, and we can start by saying hello to Olin.
16:08Hey, hi.
16:12When I heard about Maybrit for the first time, it was when Frank told me that through a dating app,
16:18he had met this big bottom blonde as he characterized her at first.
16:28He said she seemed very interesting and that she works with horses.
16:34I never got to meet Maybrit, but...
16:39And it's a good thing too, because a part of me thinks,
16:42you have a thousand thoughts when something terrible happens.
16:46And I would have liked to have met her, because maybe then I could have
16:51mentioned to Frank much earlier that he needed to
16:55get the hell out of there and get far, far, far away from that.
17:01Come.
17:01How old were you when you first met Maybrit?
17:09I was 17.
17:11I went to look at a horse she had for sale, a stallion.
17:16Instead of buying the horse, she said, why don't you just come here and ride instead?
17:22I'm like, what could be more awesome?
17:25Riding a bunch of horses and getting a few pennies for it and get to go to every competition.
17:31Yeah.
17:31It was like the entire world of horse riding opened up right in front of me, you know?
17:35Yeah.
17:39I had gotten the feeling that she was kind and caring.
17:44But my mother said to me after I had been out there,
17:48she said, it almost sounds too good to be true.
17:50This is Faust, who's looking at us. Hey, boo.
17:56Then we got one, uh, a little discolored, but, uh, very cute.
18:04Yeah.
18:04Frank was very in love with Maybrit at first.
18:07She swept him off his feet all over again.
18:13In the early stages of Maybrit and Frank's relationship,
18:17they do what a lot of new lovers do. They have fun. They go out and experience things together.
18:22They go for walks.
18:24Eventually, Frank also takes Maybrit home with him and introduces her to his two youngest children
18:31and his ex-wife, Louise.
18:34When Frank told me that he was dating Maybrit, we had been separated for about a month.
18:41I thought Frank was very quick to find someone new, but if that was the way he
18:46wanted to move on, then that's what he had to do.
18:56All right, my friends.
18:58I guess we're back at it.
18:59People are deciding to reopen some of my posts on the internet.
19:06Um, all of the horses here are being mistreated, apparently, according to these horse experts.
19:15You can see for yourself.
19:16Hi there.
19:20Honestly, I'm getting tired of all these internet bitches, pardon the expression,
19:26who keep thinking they can ruin everything.
19:29He talked a lot about how he and Maybrit were doing over the course of their relationship.
19:35He'd call me out of the blue and tell me when there was drama, and he had some concerns about her
19:44situation. She's married and lives with her husband.
19:48It's a little weird that someone would choose to live with their ex-husband. She told him that they're
19:58going through a divorce. It's super strange that you would choose to stay with someone that you're
20:03not really with anymore.
20:04When she said that she was Frank's girlfriend, it felt like time stopped and
20:25I couldn't really wrap my head around it. At the same time, I understood what she was saying, but
20:31I was thinking that I was the other woman, that I was the bad guy in this situation. It was conflicting.
20:57I was almost embarrassed that I was Frank's mistress. I also forgot that I was his girlfriend.
21:16Maybrit started to paint this horrible picture of Frank being really violent with her.
21:22And I realized it was just a matter of time before he showed that behavior to me.
21:32That he's actually a total asshole that cheated and that he probably ran away.
21:40She blocked Frank from Snapchat and social media and she said that I should do the same. Erase him completely.
21:52It didn't make any sense to me and I really couldn't process the things Maybrit was trying
22:04to tell me. This version of Frank wasn't the Frank that I knew.
22:08These allegations of violence that Maybrit told me were extremely detailed and very difficult to
22:24listen to. While it feels graphic for me to hear, all I could do was look at his daughter and see
22:32that this was way too much for her. Mybrit continued to talk about what a terrible person Frank was.
22:41But I couldn't really make sense of it. The feelings Maybrit said she had and was expressing,
22:55I couldn't feel them and it felt like, like she was acting.
23:00After this strange visit in the middle of the night in her apartment, it was unlikely that Rike would
23:14suspect that Maybrit was actually involved in Frank's disappearance. Quite the opposite.
23:20Maybrit wanted to start some sort of sister alliance where we'd come together and kick his ass to the curb,
23:30as she said it. We said we should start a group chat on Messenger so that whoever heard from Frank
23:40first could text everyone, could text everyone that he'd responded. She said we needed to support each
23:48other and let each other know when we saw him. So we ended up creating a sort of support group.
23:56Mybrit apparently was very busy. She also wrote to Frank's ex-girlfriend Louise in the late evening.
24:10I decided to reach out to Maybrit because I knew they were still talking.
24:25She told me that he was going to see his parents and that he was on his way to their place to bring
24:31some tools for his dad. I told her that I didn't believe that because I knew he was going to see Rike,
24:42his girlfriend. Mybrit responded very, I don't know, surprised.
24:52She wrote back that she had just kissed him and that they had gotten back together and everything.
24:57She just couldn't seem to understand that he had a girlfriend.
25:05I stopped sending Frank messages, but I still tried calling him every once in a while.
25:13But the phone kept going straight to voicemail.
25:27I was getting more and more angry at Frank and I was starting to think that he had been
25:53cheating on me. And my hatred was strengthened by Maybrit, who via messenger only reaffirmed my suspicions.
26:03We talked about
26:22how depressing it was for all of us and how it was foolish of Frank to be causing all this trouble.
26:30I'm slowly being fed this fuel that's making me angrier and angrier.
26:50it was a little bit more?
27:05Right?
27:06What did you say?
27:07What did you say?
27:10It was like, I don't see you on the spot.
27:12What did you think when you heard that Frank was reported missing?
27:27When it started showing up in the media?
27:30When I saw that he was missing, I thought I recognized the name and the face.
27:37I went to Mybert's profile, I thought I'd seen him, and I saw that she had pictures of the two of them together on Facebook, so I had been somewhat questioning why she had pictures with him, and then went back to Matthias, and I didn't think too much of it then.
27:56I didn't think that she had anything to do with it, at least not when I first saw it.
28:07I heard about Frank going missing through a post on Facebook.
28:17I called Louise to find out what was happening.
28:20He, Frank still hadn't answered his phone in the morning.
28:25Rike was out checking to see if he showed up at work, but then she got back to me saying he hadn't, which was also very strange.
28:33At first, I was like, well, it could be that he, I don't know, he also knew some people in Copenhagen, and he could have gone over to them for a visit, to hang out with them for a while.
28:48He hadn't just left unexpectedly or gone off the grid. He had never done anything like that.
28:53The family wrote in a post that Frank hadn't shown up for work. His phone was turned off, and he was last seen in Nimtoft.
29:07At this point, I started to realize that something was very wrong.
29:21Once the shock subsided, the rage settled in. I had more questions for my bridge.
29:27I don't think anyone can understand just how eternal that situation feels. Time seems to stand still.
29:42So, to not go completely crazy, I started mapping out the details of what had happened.
29:56After I talked to Mybritt, I got in contact with Frank's sister. Something wasn't quite right.
30:17She told me that Mybritt told her something that was completely different from what Mybritt told me.
30:26So, together, we wanted to find out if she knew more, or if she was actually hiding something.
30:39That's what we were trying to do by continuing to text her over the weekend.
30:44We wanted to see if we could catch her in one of her lies.
30:47I started to put the pieces together and realized that Mybritt might be the ex-girlfriend that Frank had told me about.
31:02Who Frank had described as controlling and who was also still married but lied about being divorced from her husband.
31:13And I started putting the pieces together and really thought about whether or not Mybritt was telling the truth.
31:25The day after anyone last heard from Frank, his family and friends decided to go to the police.
31:42In the reports, the police stated that Frank was last seen driving his white Mercedes van.
31:52They say that if anyone sees a white van that says Munch on the side to let the police know.
32:12They say that this is according to challenge him to his
32:31Frank had been missing for a few days, and we sat down for breakfast.
32:48All of a sudden, my daughter told me she's been having nightmares.
32:57Mom, Dad is gone. He can't find his way home.
33:02He's in a forest. He's bleeding because he hit his head.
33:08I kind of downplayed it, and I just told her, oh, okay, sweetie.
33:14How was I supposed to respond? We had no idea what happened.
33:17At that moment, he was just missing.
33:19I'm sorry.
33:20I'm sorry.
33:21I'm sorry.
33:21I'm sorry.
33:22Four days after Frank goes missing, detectives get their first breakthrough in this mysterious disappearance.
33:41Case.
33:41They find a burnt-up van in Auning, in a wooded area just outside the town.
34:16It was the same Mercedes Vito with a munch on the side that Frank was driving the last time he was seen.
34:23I've been out to see where the van was found, and the roof was completely scorched.
34:27So there must have been some very large flames engulfing the entire car.
34:33Police couldn't tell just by looking at it whether it was in fact Frank's van because the license plates had been removed.
34:41And that actually made it all the more suspicious.
34:48The discovery is considered a breakthrough in the case.
34:51Police close off the entire area and begin to gather various leads.
35:01You also saw a lot of police and a lot of movement in that area.
35:06Do you remember?
35:07I remember quite a lot because my wife is the one who found the van.
35:10Your wife found it?
35:11Yeah, she was out for a run.
35:13Wow, okay.
35:13Yeah, she called the police directly.
35:15Yeah, I see. It must have been quite a shock to you both.
35:19Yeah, it was. Yep.
35:22The vehicle was parked by the clubhouse and set on fire, right?
35:26Yes.
35:27Yeah.
35:28She found it by the dolmen?
35:29Yes, it was still on fire.
35:32That's rough.
35:33Yeah.
35:33When they actually found the car, was his body, like, was it still inside?
35:38Yeah, was he set on fire inside the car? That's crazy.
35:40Yeah.
35:40Yeah.
35:41Wow.
35:48When the police begin talking with various residents in the area, several people tell them that a similar vehicle
35:55vehicle to the one that Frank drives had been parked at the athletic field in town for a few days.
36:00And there were reports of a white van fitting the same description.
36:06Residents also say that the truck was parked in the lot for a few days in front of the field.
36:11The vehicle had plates.
36:14However, suddenly, the license plates are gone, and then the car disappears, too.
36:18The next day, the burnt-up van is discovered in the woods.
36:21There's no doubt that police had a strong hunch that it was Frank's car that had been found.
36:33The fact that it was found completely burnt reinforces the possibility that this was not
36:38just a missing person.
36:40It became a more serious case.
36:42Torching a vehicle is something we often associate or link with organized crime.
36:47In homicide cases or gunshot cases, you often see a getaway car that's been burned up, that
36:54is found far away from the scene of the crime.
36:57But for that to be found in a case like Frank's disappearance was quite unusual.
37:02That also made this case a little bit different.
37:05There's always something that feels slightly unusual or off, especially with cases we know
37:11involve homicide and close relationships.
37:13It actually gave me a sense of relief, or maybe a glimmer of hope that they had found
37:42Frank's car in Frank's van, but not Frank.
37:46It gave me hope that he was still alive, and that's why he wasn't in the van.
37:56I have a pretty vivid memory of when the car was found.
38:02I was at work, and a colleague tapped me on my shoulder and said,
38:05that friend of yours, something has happened.
38:12You should check it out.
38:19Yeah, so if I had any doubt that something bad had happened to him before,
38:25it certainly was absolutely clear in that moment.
38:29They hadn't found him at that point, but still, I was well aware something terrible had happened.
38:40Quite early on, some people in the immediate family became suspicious of Mybritt.
39:04When the case was first reported to the police, the family remembered that a while before any of this occurred,
39:12Frank had mentioned in a conversation that if anything were to happen to him,
39:16they should investigate in Nimtoft, and it seemed like the police took this information pretty seriously.
39:22The same day Frank's burnt van was found, the police arrested four people.
39:37Two properties were also searched.
39:41One was Matthias and Mybritt's property in Nimtoft.
39:46There are lies, there's intrigue, extortion.
39:58She heard that Frank had been strangled.
40:00She was pregnant with his child, how could she be charged with the murder?
40:04Are you doing a good job?
40:09They have a special relationship, a very intimate relationship.
40:13It also made me wonder, if they might try and kill me.
