00:05My name is Hannah, I'm an Agemba woman of Garorina and I grew up in Korka in that bit of good land.
00:11Perfect. And what made you want to enrol in the IFAS program?
00:16I've wanted to be a firefighter my whole life. I love to serve my community.
00:21I am a volunteer surf lifesaver at North Canola Beach and I grew up doing that from under sixes, learning being with my community.
00:32My uncle Danny Eastwood was actually the first known Indigenous firefighter.
00:37So it's very exciting in my family to hopefully take our team and make my family proud.
00:44Yeah, perfect. You're welcome to repeat a bit about your uncle again, just because I think there might be some background stuff there.
00:50So tell me a bit about your uncle.
00:52My uncle Danny Eastwood was the first known Indigenous firefighter.
00:56So I hope to make my family proud and take after him.
01:00Great. And what have you been learning as part of the program?
01:04So we're doing a Cert III in fitness, which I really enjoyed.
01:08I love to learn in a classroom and I like all the assignments and I obviously love helping everyone else with the assignments
01:17because a few people did have trouble with technology and I came from a background in my love school.
01:24And so it was really good to help everyone out and yeah.
01:27Yeah. And did you find, I guess, like it to be like a culturally safe or that cultural component of the course to also be quite beneficial?
01:34Yeah. So I grew up because my mum is blind.
01:38I, we never really got a chance to, like she couldn't really take us out by herself to like Indigenous groups or meetings.
01:45And, um, I really only got to experience things in school when my school had days and that was pretty much it.
01:52Unless I saw my family and they live out west, pretty far away from me.
01:56Um, so it's honestly been so nice to come together with this, like we've become a family here and I've never felt more myself and at home with these people.
