00:00Senator Cruz, how about you?
00:02Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
00:05It's my privilege to introduce my friend Herschel Walker
00:07as President Trump's nominee as the ambassador to the Bahamas.
00:11Now, most Americans know Herschel as a legend on the football field.
00:16At the University of Georgia, he became one of the greatest college players of all time,
00:21ultimately winning the Heisman Trophy in 1982 and the National Championship.
00:25He went on to a remarkable professional career with the USFL and then the NFL,
00:32where he played for the Minnesota Vikings, the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants,
00:36and most importantly, the Dallas Cowboys.
00:40And Herschel still tells me, and it always brings a smile to my face,
00:44that no matter where life takes him, he will always be a Dallas Cowboy.
00:49And Texans are grateful for that and quite proud of him.
00:52Herschel's story is much bigger than football.
00:56He represented our country as an Olympian in the 1992 Winter Games,
01:00competing as part of the US bobsled team.
01:03He's built successful businesses that supply products to schools, to the military,
01:08and to communities across America.
01:10And he's dedicated his time and energy to mentoring young people,
01:14to supporting charities and promoting health and fitness across the United States.
01:18While I've always been impressed with Herschel's achievements, both philanthropic and athletic,
01:24I have an even deeper appreciation of his character.
01:28He is a man of great faith, discipline, dependability, and resilience.
01:33Indeed, when it comes to discipline, one of the things I've learned about Herschel
01:37is he doesn't eat breakfast and he doesn't eat lunch.
01:40He only eats dinner, and I will say, speaking for myself, I don't know if anyone else on the panel,
01:46but I could do to skip a meal or two.
01:49And there's a reason you become a world-class athlete when you have that kind of discipline.
01:55Herschel embodies the characteristics many Texans hold dear.
02:00Determination, humility, and true patriotism.
02:04And I believe his voice and his perspective will be an asset to this nation.
02:10I'm proud to call Herschel Walker a friend, and I look forward to his testimony today.
02:14Mr. Chairman, members of this committee, Herschel Walker will make a terrific United States ambassador to the Bahamas,
02:20and I encourage everyone on this committee to vote to confirm him.
02:24Mr. Chairman, members of this committee, Herschel Walker, and the Board of Trustees,
