Transcript
00:00We also collected footwear impression, a palm print, and forearm imprints for analysis.
00:07I understand there are a lot of questions about motive.
00:12I assure you that all leads, tips, and tips are being fully investigated.
00:17As of this morning, we have received more than 130 tips.
00:21We thank the community for that.
00:23The FBI has brought every resource to bear,
00:26and we will continue to do so throughout the course of this investigation.
00:31The FBI's mission is to protect the American people.
00:36It's to uphold the Constitution of the United States.
00:40Any attack on the First Amendment is an attack on the very foundation of our democracy.
00:47That is why we will relentlessly pursue this case and the shooter until we find him.
00:57We also continue to grieve with the family and the community.
01:02It's our community.
01:06If you have any video or images from the shooting,
01:10we ask you to please submit them to our digital media tip website at www.fbi.gov slash Utah Valley Shooting.
01:19You can also call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
01:25We truly rely on the public's help in these types of cases,
01:29and no tip is too small or insignificant.
01:34Commissioner James Natties from Sky News.
01:40Can I ask about the shooter?
01:43There's clearly information about him or her.
01:47You say you're confident at this stage in terms of tracking down who they are.
01:50Can you talk to us about their movements, their demeanor?
01:54Do you think it's a man?
01:57And also, can I ask, what were the security arrangements in place?
02:01Was that roof being monitored?
02:04It's a question many people will have, particularly after public.
02:07So what I'll release about the suspect is the suspect blended in well with a college institution.
02:17We're not releasing any details right now.
02:19I mean, we will soon, but right now we're not.
02:23But that individual appears to be of college age.
02:28We are confident in our abilities to track that individual.
02:31If we're unsuccessful in identifying them immediately,
02:34we will reach out to the public's help and the media's help in pushing those photos.
02:39That was a new development overnight, working through the night, studying those cameras.
02:43So that's something that's new and that we're working through right now.
02:47As far as the security, I cannot speak to that.
02:49Neither the Department of Public Safety nor the Federal Bureau of Investigation
02:52was involved in the planning or security of this event.
02:55And that will have to be a question later for other agencies.
02:59I wanted to ask you, you mentioned that you found the gun
03:04in a wooded area.
03:05Do you believe that the suspect could be hiding in the woods?
03:09And is that suspect possibly still in this area?
03:13So that's a good question.
03:14And it's a question that goes to the safety of the community, right?
03:19No, not in those woods.
03:20We walked through those woods and secured it.
03:23As to the community, I can tell you that this was a targeted event.
03:27We don't believe the community is at risk.
03:30However, we're exhausting every resource to find him, and we will do so.
03:35From the images you have, can you see clearly the suspect's face?
03:42You say he was college age.
03:43Do you believe he was from this university?
03:45And how far do you think he may have gone in this time span?
03:50So I can't comment specifically on his face or any details such as that,
03:55as it's continuing to be a part of the investigation.
03:57And again, we'll release that shortly.
03:59However, we're doing everything we can to find him,
04:04and we're not sure how far he has gone.
04:06But do you have a clear image of his face?
04:09We have images of the suspect.
04:11So between those images and the gun that you've been able to recover,
04:15do you believe you know who this person is,
04:17the person that he's looking for at this point?
04:19Again, as part of the investigation, we're not releasing any details such as that.
04:23Any fingerprints or DNA?
04:26We are exhausting all of our resources to be able to collect those,
04:30but that's, again, part of the investigation.
04:31Have you said you found the holder of the gun?
04:35Excuse me?
04:35You said you found the weapon.
04:37Have you been able to trace back the holder of that weapon or have you purchased it?
04:40We are working on that, but again, part of the investigation.
04:43One last question, Pauls, there's been a lot of turnover at the FBI.
04:47Do you think that's impacting the investigation at all?
04:49Not at all.
04:50We've got complete and total support from everyone, from the director on down,
04:55and it's been an incredible supportive environment so far.
05:00Are tweets like the one yesterday useful, though,
05:02where we announced that there's a suspect who has to do it?
05:05All I can say is that we're working the investigation the best we have
05:08with the environment we're getting.
05:10Those are all the questions.
