00:00Hey, so, uh, Colin, is that your first name?
00:03Yes.
00:04Hey, so, um, do you know Anna?
00:09Last night was Wilson?
00:10Oh, yes, yes, I do.
00:12So, we should really know he's willing to save us, sir, so, apparently last night she passed away.
00:18This is Colin Strickland, and he was just told that his ex-girlfriend, Anna Wilson, was brutally murdered only hours ago.
00:30Austin, 911, what's your emergency?
00:36My friend is staying with me, and I just walked in, and she's laying on the bathroom floor, and there's blood everywhere.
00:47Austin, please!
00:50Can I come in?
00:51Quick.
00:52Do I stop?
00:56I don't know what happened, I just walked in on her.
00:59Sit up.
00:59When cops first arrived at this gruesome sight, they suspected a robbery gone wrong, but a series of damning clues found at the crime scene quickly pointed to not just a meticulously planned murder, but a deadly love triangle, and a killer that was closer to home than anyone expected.
01:20Did you kill Mel?
01:22Did you kill Mel?
01:24No.
01:25No.
01:26No.
01:30On May 11th, 2022, police were called to an address after a woman made this disturbing 911 call.
01:37What's the address of the emergency?
01:40It's 1708 Maple Avenue.
01:43Okay, tell me exactly what happened.
01:45Um, my friend is staying with me, and I just walked in, and she's laying on the bathroom floor, and there's blood everywhere, and I don't know what happened.
01:56Is she awake?
01:57She's not awake.
01:58There's blood all over her face and all on the back of her head.
02:01Is she breathing?
02:02No.
02:02Okay, I've got the paramedics on the way to help you stay on the line, Caitlin.
02:06That caller was Caitlin Cash, and she'd arrived home to find her friend, Mariah Wilson, clinging to life after being shot.
02:20Austin, please!
02:21I don't know what happened, I just walked in on her.
02:34Sit up.
02:35Okay.
02:36One second, let her get up.
02:42Yeah, sit down in here.
02:44Okay, I'll let you guys see if you can talk to them, okay?
02:47Okay.
02:48Okay.
02:49Let's talk about some of those.
02:51Oh, it's okay, it's okay.
02:53It's okay.
03:00Yeah, I had a shot.
03:04Nobody heard any shots?
03:05You don't know how long she's been down?
03:06No.
03:07That's it.
03:09Yeah, right there.
03:11Yeah, oh, we got CSF in there.
03:13After assessing the situation, officers noticed cerebrospinal fluid, or CSF for short, oozing onto the floor.
03:20This fluid surrounds the brain, meaning the bullets had actually pierced her skull and killed her instantly.
03:27This meant there was no saving her, no matter what anyone did.
03:31But officers could still bring her killer to justice, which is why they need answers right now.
03:36Answers that only Cash can give, as she is the only witness that officers currently have.
03:42Do you know if she's talking to anyone or any friends?
03:45I know you say you don't just live here.
03:46Yeah, I know.
03:46She lives with our friend Colin.
03:49Colin?
03:49Yeah.
03:50Colin's last name.
03:50Colin Strickland.
03:52Oh, Strickland?
03:53Strickland.
03:54Yeah.
03:55Yeah.
03:55Did you see a gun or anything like that?
04:01I knew when you were on the floor?
04:02No, he's beautiful at peace.
04:03No, he's wearing a...
04:04I...
04:05Colin?
04:06I...
04:06Colin?
04:07You said Colin Strickland.
04:09Strickland?
04:09Yeah.
04:10And you can know where Colin Strickland is or anything?
04:12No, but I have a phone number.
04:14Okay, Colin.
04:15Um, bro, I can give you his phone number.
04:17No, I can't.
04:17I have an exclamation from you.
04:19You said, so she went swimming with Colin Strickland?
04:22She went swimming, I left to go have dinner with my friends, and then I came back.
04:29Yeah, this is my house.
04:31This is my house.
04:32She's staying with me.
04:33Right now, police are a bit disoriented as to what exactly went down just hours earlier,
04:39but they would soon run into some evidence that would change everything.
04:43Worth noting is that situations like these can be extremely traumatizing for those involved,

05:51When is the last time you spoke with her?
05:53Uh, when I left here at 5.30.
05:58Are you guys friends?
05:59You and him are friends?
06:01Or, uh, I mean, like, acquaintances?
06:03Oh, you guys.
06:04What?
06:05Well, no.
06:06What Perry drives?
06:07It's a cyclist.
06:08A cyclist?
06:09Yeah.
06:09Does she live in this area?
06:10Uh, you live in South Austin.
06:12Does she have, like, um, a license or wallet up there at all?
06:16You know?
06:17I mean, she should.
06:19Yeah.
06:19Is she from San Francisco?
06:21Well, she's from Vermont, but she's living in San Francisco.
06:23So she came to visit you?
06:24Yeah.
06:25Okay.
06:25Yeah, I mean, she's here for a bike race this weekend.
06:27Okay.
06:28Did her and Collins have an argument at all?
06:29Do you know?
06:30I don't have any idea.
06:32The only thing I know is she said I'm needing him to go swimming.
06:36Okay.
06:37What time was that?
06:395.
06:395 p.m. today?
06:40Yeah.
06:41I mean, I can see it in my text messages.
06:43When was the last time you saw her?
06:44Was that when you saw her?
06:46I left her dinner at 5.30.
06:51So you left dinner at 5.30.
06:52What time did you come back?
06:54Right.
06:55Two minutes before I called 911.
06:57Oh, yeah.
06:57So, yeah.
06:59According to Cash, Mariah had been with Colin, her ex-boyfriend, all day,
07:03and was home only a few minutes before she was found dead.
07:07This made Colin a major person of interest that the cops would interview later on.
07:11But for now, there are more pressing matters.
07:14It turns out, Mariah was in town for a bike race and had brought along with her a $14,000 racing bike,
07:20which could have been a massive target for someone.
07:23And as the cops would soon find out, that bike was missing.
07:27It quickly became a possibility that someone could have been waiting for Mariah to be home alone
07:31and attempted to rob the bike, only for Mariah to resist and end up getting killed.
07:37This being their only lead, officers needed to trace down where this bike went,
07:41as it could take them straight to the murderer.
07:44That's her, that's her bike.
07:46For her?
07:47For her, yeah.
07:48So where would the bike go?
07:49Out of there.
07:51Could she keep the bike in the garage or where'd she keep the bike at?
07:54So, so she's right through this first unit, right here.
07:58This, this is her, um, these are her landlords.
08:01So this, so this bike covering the...
08:04I think it's, yeah.
08:05So, where would her bike be at?
08:08Where would she keep the bike in the house?
08:10She needs to be right inside the door.
08:13Yeah.
08:14There's her bike inside the door.
08:16Is there a bike?
08:19Anywhere?
08:20You see a bike?
08:22She said she would put it right by the door.
08:27No bike.
08:29That's negative, Jobes.
08:31With no trace of the bike in the house, officers decided to begin searching the woods nearby
08:35when they made a discovery that showed them they were on the wrong track completely.
08:40leaving them with absolutely zero leads.
08:44Hey, come here.
08:46Somebody might be in here.
08:47This might be the bike, okay?
08:49But hold on.
08:50Somebody might be in here.
08:52Henry, hold on.
08:54Henry, second, go ahead.
08:59Okay.
09:00All right.
09:01Over there.
09:03Um...
09:04Since the bike was dumped nearby, officers suspected that this was placed as a red herring
09:11for them to chase.
09:12Officers are being tricked.
09:15And if the killer is smart enough to trick officers, they're also smart enough to begin
09:19covering up their tracks.
09:20This is why the officers swiftly moved to gather evidence from the scene, the most important
09:25of which are the shell casings from the bullets used.
09:28There's one right there.
09:29Okay.
09:30Is it right there?
09:31Over.
09:32There's one right there.
09:33Right there.
09:35You fall.
09:35Okay.
09:36Those bullet shells will help cops identify the gun used.
09:39Now they just had to find that gun.
09:42And the shooter.
09:43Who officers initially believed could have been Cash.
09:46It is for this reason that officers bring Cash back to the police station in order to conduct
09:50a crucial test to confirm whether she's innocent or not.
09:53So, let me tell you this up front.
09:56By no means in the world do I think that you did any of this.
10:00Okay.
10:01But, so what they're going to do, we're just going to have them swab your hands for gunshot
10:06residue.
10:08If we don't do this to you, then in court they can say, oh, what about this other person?
10:15Why didn't you do this part of the investigation?
10:17A GSR or gunshot residue swab test of Cash's hands presented a negative result.
10:23Considering that Mariah was in a very narrow space of the home, officers concluded that
10:27Caitlin could not have been the one to murder her.
10:30Fortunately, though, Cash did provide an important piece of information.
10:33The last person in contact with Mariah was Colin Strickland.
10:38Digging deeper into this, cops discovered that the two were having drinks at a nearby cafe
10:43and have never suspected that this would be the last time that they saw each other.
10:47This is why Colin was an important lead who could give officers valuable insight about
10:51the events leading up to the murder.
10:53But before police went in to interview Colin, they noticed some houses in the neighborhood
10:56had CCTV cameras installed, which could possibly help reveal the killer's identity.
11:01When investigators watched the footage back, they found something very interesting.
11:13CCTV footage revealed this black jeep driving directly towards Cash's home where Mariah was
11:19staying that night.
11:20The moment it arrived, ring cameras caught this gut-wrenching audio.
11:25And immediately after the shooting, the killer escaped.
11:38Although this was a massive breakthrough, there was one glaring issue.
11:43Officers had no way of identifying the driver.
11:45After all, the cameras were too grainy and the vehicle was too far away for officers to get a shot
11:50of the driver or run the plates.
11:52However, only a few days later, they come across something incredibly interesting
11:56when going to question Colin Strickland, Mariah's ex-boyfriend.
12:07This is the same black jeep that officers saw on cameras parked right outside Colin's home.
12:13Hey, so, um, do you know Anna?
12:25Um, Mo.
12:28Anna Mo.
12:29Yeah, uh, everybody calls her Mo.
12:32Um, uh, last name's Wilson.
12:36Ryder, she's, uh, uh, girl Ryder.
12:39Yes, yes, I do.
12:40Okay, so, um, I don't really know if he's willing to say this, sir.
12:46So, apparently last night she passed away.
12:54How did you get one?
12:56She, right now it's an open investigation, but it is being investigated as a homicide.
13:04Right now, the cops know he was the last person to see her alive.
13:08They've discovered a vehicle in his driveway that matches the one captured on security
13:12cameras, and it even has a bicycle rack attached to the rear end.
13:15Colin Strickland has just become their number one suspect.
13:19But he doesn't realize this yet, as officers continue to question him.
13:23Do you happen to have her mom's address for all of a chance?
13:39I know that she lives in Vermont, but I have an address for her brother, but we're just trying
13:45to send someone to her mom's address instead of us actually calling her over the phone.
13:51The cop intentionally avoided telling Colin how Mariah died, as they do with any sense of it.
14:21suspect in a murder case, but they notice his body language is concerning, as he is barely
14:26able to look them in the eyes.
14:27This could either be because of pure shock, as the two had spent the previous day together,
14:32or in the worst case scenario, he's afraid to look them in the eyes because he had something
14:36to do with the murder.
14:38So, to uncover these secrets, police started looking into Colin's life and his history with
14:42Mariah.
14:43This is when they discover Caitlin Armstrong, Colin's girlfriend who separated from him in
14:48October 2021, but then got back together a month later in November.
14:53However, during their breakup period, he had a month-long romantic affair with Mariah and
14:58remained in contact with her even after he resumed his relationship with Caitlin.
15:02Immediately, officers begin suspecting that Caitlin could be one of the major suspects in
15:06this investigation.
15:08These suspicions were further confirmed when they ran the plates of the black jeep and found
15:12that it didn't belong to Colin, but it was actually owned by Caitlin.
15:17Considering that Colin was good friends with Mariah and Caitlin hated this, this made her a
15:22suspect in this investigation.
15:24So, to get to the bottom of this, officers bring in Colin two days after the murder in order to
15:28achieve two objectives with one interview.
15:31The first would be able to see whether Colin has a solid alibi that he can present to the officers.
15:36After all, whether he did it or not, Colin was the last person to see Mariah alive.
15:41And the second is to gather information that can be used against other suspects, like Caitlin.
15:47And you said that Joe left around like 6.30 to...
15:53I don't think that's accurate.
15:55I mean, because we must have left a full burger at about 7.45 or even later, probably maybe
16:03more like 8.
16:04Yeah.
16:04Just as it was getting dark.
16:06Okay.
16:06Um, because we went straight to her place and it wasn't dark yet, but it was...
16:11I gotcha.
16:12One of those get cooling off and it was like off in the evening.
16:14I remember that.
16:15Okay.
16:16Well, what about whenever y'all were at the bar?
16:18Um, was there anybody that was like watching y'all or was acting weird with Mo or...
16:28Mo didn't know.
16:29She doesn't live here.
16:31So, no, not at all.
16:32Yeah.
16:33Nobody.
16:34Anybody that did like try to hit on her at the bar or anything or...
16:38No.
16:38Okay.
16:39No, not that I saw.
16:40Nor that she mentioned.
16:41I didn't notice anything out of the door there.
16:43Yeah.
16:44To be honest at the bar.
16:44The cops are looking for more than just details of what he and Mariah did that day.
16:48They're going to try and figure out why exactly the black vehicle from the murder scene was
16:53conveniently parked at Colin's home.
16:57Whenever I was over there earlier, I saw there was the other car, because you said that you
17:01drive a motorcycle and then you drove the Mercedes.
17:04Drove Mercedes.
17:05Up here.
17:06I guess the other one is...
17:07It's hers.
17:08My girlfriend, Caitlin.
17:09Okay.
17:09So that belongs to her.
17:10Okay.
17:11All right.
17:11So you got back around like 7.30.
17:13I don't know exactly when that was.
17:16I think I texted Caitlin as I was leaving, just saying, hey, are you still out getting
17:21food?
17:22Yeah, more like 8.30 is when I dropped her off at her house.
17:26Okay.
17:26Like just before dark.
17:27I texted Caitlin as I was out, like after I left.
17:30Okay.
17:30And that was whenever you...
17:31It says 8.36.
17:33That's not...
17:33I think she was in her yoga class.
17:35She showed up.
17:36I'm kind of close.
17:37So you're not getting back home.
17:40She's not home.
17:41What time was it that she got home?
17:42I'm sure right after I texted her, probably 9.20 or so.
17:49It says 9.21.
17:51Okay.
17:52Like where...
17:52Where has she been?
17:54Like that whole...
17:55She had had actually a laser hair removal appointment, she said, at 7 p.m. downtown.
18:02Uh-huh.
18:03And then after that, I'm not exactly sure, she had texted me asking if I wanted to meet up
18:08and I didn't reply.
18:09And then I didn't see her or hear from her until I was back at home.
18:15Can I just say anything like whenever she got home of where she'd been?
18:20You know, but she was in her, like, yoga outfit carrying a yoga mat.
18:24Although Colin had heard from Caitlin the night of the murder, he couldn't give her a solid
18:28alibi and didn't even know exactly where she did her yoga classes.
18:32He also managed to avoid mentioning his romantic affair with Mariah, but he'll soon be left
18:37with no choice but to tell the cops everything.
18:40So how long had you and Caitlin been dating?
18:43About a year and a half, maybe two years, actually.
18:46Okay.
18:47And how long was it that y'all had broken up whenever you and Mo had gotten bigger?
18:51Not very long, actually.
18:52While you were dating Mo, Caitlin was still living with you?
18:57Um, she was moving out.
18:59Oh, okay.
18:59I mean, she had another house, she had a sister in town, and, um, yeah, it was definitely very...
19:06I was about to say, that would probably be pretty, pretty, uh...
19:10It definitely was.
19:11It was kind of almost like something I felt like I...
19:14I felt like to force the situation, which is secret, but...
19:18So why was it that you had to change the name for Mo in your phone?
19:23Just because I...
19:25I don't know, because in the past Caitlin has looked at my phone, and I just didn't want to...
19:30I just didn't want to surface...
19:34Basically, I would always start fighting...
19:36Exactly.
19:37Basically, nobody else can have you.
19:38Yeah.
19:39Yeah.
19:39I don't know.
19:40So, she gets kind of jealous.
19:42Understandable.
19:43I mean, exactly.
19:44You need to know anything you can do.
19:46Yeah, I got you.
19:47After listening to Colin, officers achieved what they set out to do.
19:51First, they cleared Colin, who had texts and times to back up his alibi.
19:55Secondly, they managed to gather information about Caitlin, whose entire story is shady.
20:01That means that out of the three suspects that officers have, Colin, Cash, and Caitlin, only
20:07Caitlin's movements are entirely unaccounted for.
20:10This is why cops were now more suspicious of her than ever, but had no irrefutable evidence
20:16to arrest Caitlin, at least not until the cops searched the police database and hit the jackpot.
20:23Caitlin Armstrong had a warrant on her head for a minor infraction.
20:26It was all they needed to bring her in, and then use it as an excuse to question her about
20:31Mariah.
20:32All right.
20:33So, I'm Detective Connor, and so, my partner is actually talking to Colin right now.
20:40So, I wanted to come in here and start chatting with you and everything so you don't have to
20:43wait super long.
20:45So, it sounds like you may have some information, may have witnessed something, so I just wanted
20:50to chat with you about some stuff.
20:52But, you're here for a warrant right now, I guess.
20:56Are you familiar with what you have going on with that?
20:59No idea.
21:00Okay, so I guess it was like a theft of service warrant, something kind of minor.
21:05Nothing?
21:05Okay.
21:06So, that's why you're here.
21:08You've got a theft of service warrant.
21:10That's why you got picked up today and everything, so I was just letting you know on that part.
21:13Observe how the detective maintains an almost nonchalant demeanor.
21:17Despite the gravity of the situation, this is deliberately done to create a sense of security
21:22for Caitlin, ensuring she remains unaware that she is under any suspicion by the police.
21:27Despite this, Caitlin appears noticeably tense and uneasy.
21:31Can you tell me what it was that was the theft of service?
21:37I can look.
21:38I'm not sure what it is at this point, but I can look that up later and get you a little
21:43bit more information on that for sure.
21:46But because you are here and because you were under us for that portion of it, we always
21:50have to read Miranda and stuff because I want to talk to you about some other stuff that's
21:53unrelated to that.
21:55The officer has ignored Caitlin's questions about her warrant because she is more focused
21:59on digging up information about Mariah's murder, a tactic that becomes dangerous as
22:03Caitlin begins to raise concerns about her legal counsel.
22:07If I have an existing warrant and you don't know what it's about, do I need an attorney here?
22:13So the warrant is just a class B, just theft of service type thing.
22:18The reason I'm here is because your name came up during a conversation with Colin.
22:23I think there's a lot more information that you have that can kind of explain some of the
22:28stuff he's saying.
22:29But to be able to do that, I have to read you your rights just so that you know and you're
22:32protected and things like that.
22:34Okay.
22:34Okay.
22:35And so if you're reading me my rights, then I should have-
22:37That's because of the warrant because you're under arrest for the warrant.
22:40So you're technically in custody because of that warrant.
22:43So they're two separate things.
22:45Does that make sense?
22:47I think so, but I have never heard-
22:49Even though they have Caitlin exactly where they want her, one tiny mistake is about to
22:56allow someone cops suspect to be a killer to walk away scot-free.
23:01Well, good news.
23:04So that's what they were just knocking on the door is apparently that warrant, the date of
23:09birth was wrong.
23:10So it had your name, but the date of birth is wrong.
23:12So it's to a different person.
23:13So that's not, you're not under arrest.
23:16Okay.
23:17Okay.
23:18I know.
23:19It's a little crazy.
23:20Although the cop tries to make a joke of the situation, Caitlin now knows that she can
23:25leave whenever she wishes.
23:26After all, cops have no legal ground to hold her any longer.
23:30This is why it's down to this cop to try and convince her that talking is the right thing
23:35to do, but I would really like to talk to you and clear some stuff up, um, because Colin
23:42did bring your name up.
23:43And I think there's a lot more information that you have that can kind of clear some stuff
23:48up.
23:49Does that make sense?
23:50It makes sense.
23:51I feel like I should have an attorney present.
23:53So that's totally your choice.
23:55Um, so you, so at this point you are free to leave at any point.
23:59So this is going to be consensual at this point.
24:00To make matters worse, Caitlin has just requested an attorney.
24:07Legally, the detective is now bound to cease any and all questioning related to Mariah's
24:12murder, but she's about to thread a very dangerous line of breaking the law in order
24:17to get any information out of Caitlin.
24:20I would love to leave.
24:21He would love to leave.
24:21He just arrested me in front of my house, in front of all of my neighbors and carried
24:24me in here in handcuffs in front of downtown Austin.
24:27It was incredibly humiliating.
24:29I can imagine, yeah.
24:30And I'm so sorry.
24:31I don't have control over that part.
24:33Okay.
24:33I'm not upset with you.
24:35So there's a situation that's going on.
24:37Did you hear about what's happened over the past 24 hours?
24:40Colin walked in the house and said one of the women in the cycling community passed away.
24:44Yes.
24:45Yeah.
24:46Um, while Colin was talking to us, your name came up.
24:49Um, and so that's where I would really like to talk to you because it sounds like there
24:54are some, some issues between you and this girl.
24:57And I think that there's probably a lot more to it that you could help explain.
25:03Okay.
25:03I'm not, I'm not sure exactly what you mean or what information you like.
25:07So, so it sounds like maybe he went out with this girl the other day and maybe it sounds
25:13like from what he's saying that you were a little upset about it.
25:16Um, and so that's why I kind of wanted to get your side of it because that's not fair
25:20if he's just saying one thing and, and trying to, to go down a route and I want to make sure
25:26that's not the case.
25:27That is not accurate.
25:29Yeah.
25:30And that's why I wanted to chat with you because it's a guy, he's going to say stuff.
25:34And so we want to make sure that we get both sides of the story and everything and clear
25:38it up.
25:38So what, what were you doing yesterday?
25:41I would like to leave.
25:42I think you'd like to leave.
25:44Yeah.
25:44Okay.
25:45But understand if you do, then we only have one side of the story to go on.
25:49And from what we're hearing from Colin, you know, it's one side and it, well, I just
25:55am uncertain as to even what you mean or what he could have said, because I didn't have any
26:02idea that he spoke, he saw or went out with this girl.
26:05Okay.
26:06Yeah.
26:07Has he been like talking to her on the side?
26:10I would like to leave.
26:10I don't actually know.
26:12And I would like to leave.
26:14Okay.
26:14At this point, getting Caitlin to talk willingly seems like a lost cause.
26:19She knows she can walk out of the station and nobody can stop her.
26:23So the detective decides to drop their bombshell evidence in the hope she might crack.
26:27And your vehicle was seen next to her house.
26:32Um, and we needed to talk about that.
26:35Okay.
26:36Because when he's saying this stuff and then your vehicle is seen, like, I want to be able
26:41to explain, okay, there's a logical explanation for this.
26:45Maybe you were upset and you were just in the area or something.
26:48Like, I don't know because I don't have your story.
26:51When I can't explain that and all I see is that your vehicle's over there, that, that
26:56kind of makes it look not too good.
26:58Right.
26:59Okay.
27:00And then when we're talking to Colin and we're hearing like, yeah, there was some, some jealousy
27:04stuff going on.
27:06Like, that doesn't sound very good.
27:08Um, and so that's why I really want to get your side of the story because maybe there's
27:12a lot more going on.
27:16I would like to leave if I'm free to leave.
27:18Okay.
27:19Okay.
27:19Unfortunately, there was nothing that officers could do to stop Caitlin from walking out.
27:25At this point, they were incredibly suspicious of her as her behavior throughout the interrogation
27:30meant that she was hiding something.
27:32But if officers couldn't find out what this was from Caitlin, they'd do it from the one
27:37person who knew her best, Colin Strickland, who was called in a second time for an interview
27:43in hopes of uncovering more information about Caitlin.
27:46However, there is one problem.
27:47This time Colin brought his lawyer with him and questioning him is about to become exponentially
27:53harder.
27:54How was, how was Caitlin during that time?
27:59I guess my understanding is she wasn't too happy whenever she saw Mo.
28:03Caitlin had, we were, after Mo was in Austin for a week and we, Mo and I had settled, I
28:10had broken up with Caitlin before Mo came to town.
28:14And then I actually did not know that she was coming to Austin in October.
28:20I had no idea.
28:21Yeah.
28:21I hadn't discussed that.
28:22And I don't think so.
28:24It was, it felt like a surprise.
28:25And then she was here and I just said, Oh, let's hang out.
28:28I was mentally ready to kind of move on.
28:32And then I know after Mo left town after a week, Caitlin's things are still in my house.
28:37We were sleeping in separate rooms and effectively, you know, Caitlin was on Bumble.
28:43I know she had made several dates with people.
28:46And I don't know, I never asked like what, how, what they were, what extent they were evolving
28:52a relationship.
28:53But I know that she went on, had several men that she was dating of sorts and I was fine
28:59with it.
29:00I mean, that was kind of the understanding of course.
29:02So, um, yeah, it just seems very weird to me that she would be, that there would be any
29:07dwelling on things that's fading on a person when she was like, you know, moving on to other
29:18relationships, you know, at that time.
29:21From what Colin says, the two clearly had a troubled relationship, especially considering
29:27the facts that both Colin and Caitlin rebounded while on break.
29:30This is why officers need to dig deeper into what Caitlin acted like both during and after this
29:36time to determine if she showed obsessive traits in her personality.
29:39It's just kind of going back to, you know, me just trying to figure out like, just kind
29:45of how she is her personality and stuff.
29:47I mean, if you were to ask me about like, Hey, how was your wife?
29:50Well, yeah, I mean, I'm going to tell you, yeah, she's always happy, but does she get mad?
29:54Yes.
29:55Everybody gets mad.
29:55That's natural.
29:56You know, I'm not, I'm, I'm not going to blow that out of proportion.
29:59Do I think that my wife could go and kill somebody?
30:01No, there's no way in the world.
30:03Do I think my wife would hit somebody?
30:05No.
30:06Now, if you asked me that about my six-year-old son, yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if he wouldn't
30:10punch somebody at all.
30:12Do you think Caitlin would hit somebody?
30:14No, I honestly don't because it would be too, I don't know.
30:21Do I think Caitlin could kill somebody?
30:23No, I don't.
30:24If Caitlin had been planning to murder Mariah, Colin was about to make it clear he suspected
30:30nothing all along.
30:32I said, I think, I think y'all need to stop talking to each other.
30:36You need to separate yourselves from each other while the fact finding is going on.
30:40I just don't think it'd be helpful.
30:41Of course.
30:42And so, and so I don't think there's been very much,
30:46there's definitely not been any being together.
30:48Since she left, and I left Saturday, Friday, sorry, Friday, midday,
30:53eventually to get a new SIM card for my phone, which I assumed was okay.
30:57Yeah.
30:58To have the same number.
30:58You're allowed to have a phone.
30:59Yes, yes, yes.
31:00And then saw Claire since then, I have not, I haven't spoken with Caitlin or seen her.
31:10And so the two detectives, you know, two detectives came by my house yesterday,
31:16looking at them, asking if I, if she was there, if I had seen where she was.
31:20And my father had contacted her that, yesterday morning, he had gotten in touch with her.
31:25I gave him the number that Caitlin had given our mutual attorney.
31:31Has she ever mentioned in the past of wanting to hurt Mo?
31:37No, she's never mentioned wanting to physically hurt Mo.
31:41Do you think that she is capable?
31:44If I thought she was physically capable of hurting another human, I would have extricated myself
31:50immediately from that situation. Not only for my, not so much for my own personal safety,
31:55but my concern for another human.
31:58Mm-hmm.
32:00So what's that answer?
32:01The answer is no.
32:02Okay.
32:02I don't believe in any way she's capable of that.
32:05Okay.
32:06The gun range that she visited with her sister, do you know where that gun range is?
32:12I think it was on South, I don't, South I-35.
32:16I told them to go to the Reds, which is now something else, which is the one I drove past
32:20on my way to school for 12 years at the Waldorf School.
32:24But they went to another one because a mutual friend had been there.
32:29You bought the guns, right?
32:30I bought the guns, yes.
32:32When was that?
32:34I think December, early December.
32:37Okay.
32:37It's, it's, there's, there's a receipt with them.
32:40I'm sure you could look at the receipt.
32:42In an ironic twist, Colin had bought Caitlin a gun for self-defense, but after police conducted a
32:48firearm examination, it just so happened that the bullets it used were the same caliber that were
32:53found near Mariah's body.
32:55So far, the cops had evidence of Caitlin's car at the scene, they knew about her obsessive behavior,
33:00and they knew she owned the same model of gun that was used to kill Mariah.
33:04But while they searched for her whereabouts, the investigation continued to uncover crucial and
33:09damning evidence that not only heavily suggested Caitlin was responsible for Mariah's death,
33:14but also cleared Colin of any wrongdoing.
33:17The cops gathered all cell phone data and compared it to the surveillance footage,
33:22allowing them to map the movements of Mariah, Colin, and Caitlin on the night of May 11th, 2022.
33:29Colin and Mariah were at Pool Burger after their swim and were there around 7pm.
33:33When they left, they headed to Maple Avenue, but didn't realize that Caitlin was stalking them
33:39and was driving in the same direction.
33:41Caitlin thought that turning off her cell phone would cover her tracks, but the surveillance
33:46footage caught her, and what it shows is a black Jeep eerily similar to Caitlin's closing in on the
33:50house where Mariah was killed. As Colin dropped Mariah off at the Maple Avenue address, both were
33:56completely unaware that Caitlin was secretly stalking them only yards away. The same black Jeep had driven
34:02down the back alley of Maple Avenue and was slowly heading toward Mariah's address. Moments after Colin left,
34:08a neighbor's doorbell camera captured audio of Mariah screaming for her life before she was murdered.
34:21Colin's cell phone placed him driving away from the area before Mariah's death and cleared him as a suspect.
34:27This meant that the only person who could have killed Mariah was Caitlin. All that was left to do
34:33was arrest her, but when officers went to find her, they discovered a massive problem. Just hours before
34:40they solved the murder, Caitlin had left the country under a fraudulent passport which was originally
34:46her sister's. Caitlin likely did this to avoid using her own passport in case officers were keeping tabs on
34:52her, but the fraudulent passport gave her enough time to escape. After getting a search warrant for her
34:58Gmail records, officers found a flight ticket that was booked for a one-way flight to Costa Rica.
35:03Even CCTV footage obtained from Austin Bergstrom International Airport in Austin showed her boarding
35:09into the plane. An initial investigation into her records showed that she had booked a hostel in Santa
35:14Teresa Beach while working as a yoga instructor. So, to lure her out, an officer sent a message out on
35:20social media asking for a yoga teacher in the local area. Soon, Caitlin took the bait and replied to the ad and
35:27agreed to meet up. But in the month that she'd been on the run, she'd taken some extreme measures in
35:34order to conceal her identity. Caitlin had undergone several surgical operations to alter her appearance,
35:40but there was no fooling the arresting officer, who recognized Caitlin from her eyes. She was arrested
35:46and flown back to the United States where she was charged with attempted murder. However, that wasn't the
35:53end of it, because in October 2023, Caitlin tried to escape again by taking advantage of a doctor's
35:59appointment outside of jail. She can be seen here fleeing from the cops after she jumped from a
36:04bathroom window. This time, she was caught almost instantly. If the several attempts to escape justice
36:11and falsifying of documents weren't enough to convince a jury Caitlin was guilty, then the surveillance
36:17footage and the testimony of Colin Strickland, and most importantly, the ballistic analysis that matched
36:22the gun to the shell casings found at the scene of the crime certainly were enough to convince them.
36:28Consequently, a year and a half later, on November 16, 2023, Caitlin was found guilty of first-degree
36:35murder and she was sentenced to 90 years in prison for the cold-blooded murder of Mariah Wilson.
