Cowra farmer Jo Treasure conducts a hands-on lamb trial with local students, providing them with a clearer understanding of farming.
Transcript
00:00My name's Jo Treasure and I'm a farmer in Cowra and for the last couple of years I've been
00:05coordinating a lamb trial with my old high school in Cowra. Essentially we donate some lambs to the
00:12school. The kids develop a ration for the lambs and then they get to monitor their growth over
00:17about 10 weeks. At the end of the program we process the lambs and essentially the kids get
00:25a realistic insight into what it actually takes to produce lamb and that way they're combating the
00:32misinformation that's rife about our practices in the industry. At the end of the program a student
00:37is given an award, someone who's displayed presence and commitment to the trial and also to their
00:43studies. With the NFF support I'd love to expand the program to four or five other schools in the area
00:51next year and hopefully get the ball rolling with the Connect to Agriculture lamb trial.
