00:00O presidente has shown some concern
00:02around President Bolsonaro,
00:03who's being prevented from running.
00:05All of this is coming in the context
00:06of increased censorship
00:08of online platforms,
00:09of American platforms,
00:10and efforts to censor Americans.
00:12I'm personally being investigated
00:14under criminal investigation
00:15with my Brazilian colleagues
00:17for publishing the Twitter files Brazil.
00:19We're very grateful that the president
00:20has imposed Magnitsky sanctions
00:22on the judge.
00:23Is the president considering
00:24additional actions given that
00:26it appears that they're going to end up
00:27with a conviction against
00:28President Bolsonaro,
00:29preventing him from running?
00:30Is he considering doing anything
00:31about this crackdown in Europe?
00:33I mean, it's shocking to see
00:34Joachim Paul,
00:35this mayoral candidate in Germany,
00:38the criminal indictment against him
00:40cites him, quote,
00:41saying that he loves the Lord of the Rings
00:43as reason why he's an extremist
00:46and shouldn't be able to run.
00:47So I just wonder if you could speak to that.
00:48And again, I'm grateful to be here.
00:49Nice to meet you all.
00:50And I'm grateful for what
00:51the Trump administration has done
00:52to push for free speech abroad.
00:54Well, thanks for being here, Michael.
00:55We appreciate it.
00:57Freedom of speech is arguably
00:58the most important issue of our time.
01:01It is enshrined in our constitution
01:02and the president believes in it strongly.
01:05He himself faced censorship
01:07in his road back to this beautiful
01:08Oval Office here in Washington, D.C.
01:10So he takes this very seriously,
01:12as does, I know,
01:13the vice president of the United States
01:15and the entire Trump administration,
01:16which is why we have taken significant action
01:19with regards to Brazil
01:20in the form of both sanctions
01:21and also leveraging the use of tariffs
01:24to ensure that countries around the world
01:26are not punishing their citizens in this way.
01:29And at the same time,
01:30the president is,
01:31while he's leveraging the United States
01:33to safeguard our interests abroad,
01:34he's also making sure
01:36that freedom of speech
01:37remains here
01:38in the United States of America.
01:39So I don't have any additional actions
01:41to preview for you today,
01:43but I can tell you
01:43this is a priority for the administration
01:45and the president is unafraid
01:46to use the economic might,
01:49the military might
01:50of the United States of America
01:51to protect free speech around the world.
01:53Can you have a quick follow-up to that?
01:54Sure.
