00:00To be continued...
00:30It's the business end of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.
00:41Hello there and welcome to highlights from a mouthwatering clash, the second semi-final
00:46featuring the same opponents from the last ICC World Cup final, India and Sri Lanka.
00:52India having reached the last four, in fact, having stormed into the last four, unbeaten
01:00Sri Lanka sneaking in there on the back of victories against England and Australia.
01:07Mahendra Singh Dhoni won an important toss and had no hesitation asking Sri Lanka to bat
01:12first.
01:14India went in unchanged.
01:15Sri Lanka had two changes from their last outing.
01:18Jeevan Mendes and Thysara Pereira coming in for Dinesh Chandimal and Shominda Iranga.
01:24The weather was expected to play a part and it poured as promised from early in the morning.
01:32In overcast conditions, India struck first and struck early.
01:38Taken a second slip.
01:40It's not working for Kuchal Pereira.
01:42He does love bowling to left-handers as Bhubaneswar Kumar.
01:45Once again, has provided India the breakthrough of this day.
01:54He was bringing that ball back in, but this time, from that length which invites the drive,
02:01he's got it to go the other way.
02:03Suresh Rainer wouldn't get any easier catches than that.
02:09Catchable height, a round hip height, slip fielders do love it.
02:12He's one of the better fielders that India do have too.
02:16Six for one, India underway.
02:18Easily done.
02:25Just a little too short, not quite as quick as he can be.
02:36And straight wide of Dinesh Kartik, who's at cover.
02:39So he's got one of the back foot, and he's now driven one down the ground.
02:44These are good shots for Dilshan.
02:50Will beat Chikhar Dhawan.
02:52This will give us an idea of how quick this outfield is.
02:55It isn't.
02:55Doesn't matter how quick it is, because Dilshan's not coming back to three.
03:02After driving on the offside for that four,
03:06he was feeling his leg, his calf muscle.
03:11And he really has pulled up.
03:12So this is a big issue for Sri Lanka.
03:14Steve Mount, the physio.
03:15He was up very quickly.
03:24He's really struggling.
03:25I mean, my eyes are on the ball, really, to see the outfield.
03:28But he's done well to come back for a second in that case.
03:39Really, Sri Lanka need to see off this new ball.
03:41And the biggest threat that the Indian bowlers will pose is right now.
03:49Come the Latovers, Jhawadana being there to control it will be good for Sri Lanka.
03:54Sanghakar is out there right now.
03:56I hate to say that, but I think it's looking a little worse than when we first saw Dilshan call the physio.
04:04I'm afraid that's it for Dilshan for the moment.
04:08And Sri Lanka now got a rebuild, as Russell says.
04:11Maybe a bear with the fact that they might well be two down.
04:16Retired hurt for 12.
04:17Lahuru Thirimanik is the new man in.
04:23Ooh, close.
04:24Inside edge.
04:28Not another injury.
04:29We don't want another one.
04:32One good thing the Indian bowlers have done this morning is really attack the stumps.
04:36They haven't bowled too wide.
04:37They've made the bats from play.
04:39And you need to do that in these conditions.
04:40Not just make them play.
04:42They've actually caused a few injuries too, Sanjay.
04:44Yeah, they've got the batsman to push at the ball.
04:46You'll see the inside edge onto that unprotected area, which is just besides the knee.
04:52And you can see the pad doesn't protect that area.
04:55Something maybe pad manufacturers can look at and work on.
05:00Because inside edges happen a lot these days in modern day cricket when you're hitting through
05:07the line.
05:08So there's going to be a slight pause here as he receives some attention.
05:12Yeah, they've got the inside edge onto the knee.
05:18Yeah, they really hurt too.
05:19And when they get that inside of the knee there, when we saw that inside edge onto the knee.
05:23There again, another full delivery inside edge I would think.
05:30And we have another injury.
05:33Sumesh Yadav.
05:34It doesn't seem as serious, so we might not lose more time in this over.
05:47It's taken a bit of a chance this time.
05:49It's good cricket from Sangakara.
05:5213-0 is gone.
05:53It's 32 for one.
06:02Oh, they'll be happy with that.
06:03Two.
06:04Crunch.
06:05That's going to be four.
06:07I've only lost one wicket.
06:07We just were saying a couple of good overs here and suddenly Sri Lanka are in a pretty good spot.
06:14Edged and out.
06:15A stunning catch.
06:18Suresh Reiner low to his right.
06:20Takes a beauty.
06:21And Tirumana is gone.
06:24This is an outstanding effort by Suresh Reiner.
06:29He's always, always in the game.
06:32You can never have Suresh Reiner out of the game.
06:36And once again showing his alertness.
06:39He's got loads of stamina.
06:41And he's one of India's top fielders.
06:43Have a look at this.
06:44The ball was falling down.
06:46And he's gone for it.
06:48Brilliantly positioned.
06:49And a terrific catch that by Suresh Reiner.
06:53So a wicket to Ishaan Sharma.
06:55That should give him a lot of confidence.
06:57Tirumana is gone.
06:58And it's 36 for 2 for Sri Lanka.
07:00Ishaan Sharma.
07:08Edged and gone.
07:10Another one to Ishaan Sharma.
07:12A lifting delivery outside the off stump.
07:14Tumar Sangakara couldn't help but bend it away to Suresh Reiner who's taken three.
07:21What a good delivery this is.
07:22This is a tremendous delivery from Ishaan Sharma.
07:25He's bowled the ball on a much fuller leg.
07:28He also has a delivery that leaves the left-hander.
07:32That left him just a little bit.
07:34It bounced a little bit.
07:35He's created a very good angle.
07:37Look at that.
07:37There's extra bounce as well.
07:39And Suresh Reiner doesn't miss those.
07:41This is another fine catch by Suresh Reiner.
07:44It's a tremendous delivery from Ishaan Sharma.
07:47It's a huge wicket for India.
07:50Kumar Sangakara is out.
07:51It's 41 for 3.
08:02Umesh Yadiv nearly picking up another one with the bottom edge.
08:06Angelo Matthews looking to pull that around the corner.
08:11Yeah, he's the quickest of the Indian bowlers, Umesh Yadiv.
08:14Again, hit about 145 kilometers per hour.
08:18This one was about 140 kilometers.
08:21But just surprised Angelo Matthews with that delivery.
08:26Matthews checking his shot at the last moment.
08:29Maybe the ball's not quite coming out of the bat.
08:31Wait!
08:44That's driven away through Square on the offside.
08:52It won't run for 4.
08:54But what it'll do, it'll bring up the 50 for Sri Lanka.
08:56And the batsman will push for 3.
08:59And just get there.
09:01A better throw, Joe Wardner would have been in trouble.
09:0421 overs gone.
09:05It's 52 for 3.
09:13Down the pitch.
09:15That's a big shot.
09:17Over Cow Corner.
09:18Releases the pressure.
09:19Yeah, that's good batting.
09:23Sri Lanka were pushed behind.
09:25And they needed to find a way to get out of it.
09:30It's good, positive cricket.
09:32Clever cricket from Angelo Matthews.
09:33Length delivery.
09:34You cannot allow the seamer to keep pulling that length.
09:38Just shot of a length.
09:39Hit it on the up.
09:40And it's gone the distance.
09:43Yeah, I thought Sri Lanka might have promoted Kulis Ekra in for a little bit of dart like they did against England.
09:48Just to try and get the bowlers on the back foot.
09:52All close.
09:54Was it going over?
09:56Very close.
09:57Just the bounce of Ishan Sharma.
09:59Another Sri Lankan batsman feels pain.
10:05That's cold conditions here.
10:08Lucky him as though he's got the gloves on.
10:10Ravi Chandranashvind at first slip lives in Chennai.
10:14Imagine for him.
10:16Sri Lanka nothing better.
10:18High.
10:18But it's hit him exactly in between the thigh pad and the pad.
10:22And that hurts.
10:27Oh, close in swing.
10:29Is he going to give him?
10:30Is the captain?
10:31Yes.
10:32Would you believe it?
10:34Mihaela Jaya Wardner wants it reviewed.
10:36He might think he's got an inside edge.
10:38He might think it's going down the leg side.
10:43What a moment this is.
10:46This is terrific stuff.
10:49Swinging in the air.
10:50Coming back into Jaya Wardner.
10:51He looks confident.
10:53That is hit it.
10:55Nonetheless, miles inside.
10:58That's what happens when you don't bowl regularly.
11:00But it's what happened at the other end is important.
11:03Good seam position.
11:03Well, he's got a big inside edge.
11:11Bat and onto the pad.
11:13He'll get away with it.
11:17Doni's got a smile on his face.
11:18Well, it's all happening here in Cardiff.
11:24Well, I sympathize with Alimdar.
11:26Because the amount of noise that was going on then when Doni bowled was phenomenal.
11:31And it's no wonder that Alimdar didn't hear that inside edge.
11:39Mihaela wants the run for the inside edge.
11:41Because it's a review, he has to go back.
11:46Because the first thing that happened was the LBW before the run.
11:50And I understand his point.
11:51If Sri Lanka lose by one run, he'll say, well, I hit one.
11:54We were going to run.
11:56He wants to get off strike.
11:59Yeah, but he's not out.
12:00So you could argue that I was not out.
12:02I did nothing wrong.
12:03Why are you penalizing me a run?
12:07We'll get another one.
12:08Why?
12:08Well, he's got Mihaela Jaiwodhani thinking.
12:13It's not the same calm Jaiwodhani.
12:15He's used his feet this time.
12:19So he's worried about Doni.
12:20He's got that smile on his face.
12:24Again, good use of the technology.
12:25Good use of DRS.
12:32Slightly balls off the wrong foot.
12:34M.S. Doni.
12:34At least sort of conditions.
12:36Just someone who gets the line and length right.
12:38Will make it wobble.
12:39A bit in and a bit out.
12:43That's a good sweep from outside the line.
12:46Isshant will have to dive.
12:47He does, but misses the ball.
12:48A much-needed boundary.
12:54Sri Lanka need a push on.
12:55They're halfway into the 50-over game.
12:59Has been tough batting conditions, but Jadeja could be the man today they can go after.
13:03Mahela Jaiwodhani.
13:04That's a strength.
13:07Mahela Jaiwodhani placed the sweep on both sides.
13:09A diving Isshant Sharma.
13:11A little stiff in these conditions.
13:13The colder it is, the stiffer you get.
13:15He couldn't stop the boundary.
13:17Cut away.
13:22Don't think it will go for four.
13:24Third man might pull in.
13:25Yes, it will.
13:27Now it feels still reasonably quick, even with the rain.
13:29A good shot.
13:32Bit of width.
13:33Another boundary for Jaiwodhani.
13:35Two and two overs.
13:39He's got to keep it full, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
13:42Standing so far in front of the crease.
13:44Just allowing the ball to come.
13:46And he's a class act.
13:49Yeah, just wondering if Kartik should come up to the stumps.
13:52Because Jaiwodhani is a good yard.
13:55I mean, a couple of feet out of his crease.
13:59He must have bowled a lot with the softball.
14:06The fun cricket.
14:0792 for three.
14:12The five runs off that over.
14:14Well, I do think it's time Dhoni took himself off.
14:18Let's try the experiment.
14:19He's got through four overs.
14:22Maybe turn to the main bowler.
14:24Rabichandra Nashvind.
14:26But there will be a little bit of turn on this pitch.
14:29He's got to see what Ashwin can get out of the pitch.
14:34Good partnership.
14:37Valuable in this situation.
14:38India winning the toss.
14:44Elected to bowl first.
14:48That's interesting.
14:50Yes, finger goes up.
14:52And you would think Sri Lanka might just want to have a look at this one.
14:55Mahela Jaiwodhani will tell his partner exactly what he thinks about it.
14:58He was in a good position to know whether the ball pitched in line, whether it was going on to hit the stumps.
15:05He's not got an edge on it.
15:07He's just asking about the line from Jaiwodhana.
15:10Jaiwodhana seems to have told Matthews initially it looked like it had straightened down the line.
15:17But they built a partnership and I think this is a tactical move.
15:22He's got the feeling Mahela Jaiwodhani may not have been too convinced.
15:25But they're thinking that, well, this is an important stage of the match.
15:28This is an important wicket these guys have put on.
15:31Over 50 runs.
15:32Let's take a chance with this one.
15:34Never a problem with that.
15:38Gives you the impression he's going over, but it comes back.
15:44Where does it pitch?
15:46Pitch is in line.
15:48How's the height?
15:49That might be a question, but we'll know very shortly.
15:54Well, we can't see the edge because the sign is coming in the way, but I don't think there was any outside edge.
16:01Let's have a proper look at it.
16:03Anything appearing on the outside edge of the bat?
16:05No.
16:06Hits him on the thigh, not on the pad.
16:09And once again, the ball gripping and turning.
16:13That looks out.
16:14But we'll have to wait for that third indicator to come up.
16:17Wickets missing.
16:23It's worked.
16:26And by a long way in the end.
16:33Oh, he's knocked him over.
16:42How many times does he do that, Jadeja?
16:44Does people in with that little extra nip of the track?
16:46The rock star, Jadeja, strikes a big blow to Sri Lanka.
16:56I was just looking around the field and the big gap was out of mid-wicket.
16:59I was thinking Jay Wardner might be trying to sleep sweet Jadeja or go over mid on because he was up.
17:05But he's gone fast and straight as usual.
17:07He's tried to pull it out to the vacant mid-wicket area, Jay Wardner.
17:10And Jadeja strikes.
17:11He's been a key player for India in this series.
17:15Really has bowled well.
17:16Fast and straight at the stumps.
17:17Former captain Mahala Jawadhané gone for 38 of 63 balls.
17:25The captain at the crease.
17:27Would he be able to provide some much-needed impetus with the lower order?
17:31We'll take a break and find out how Sri Lanka finished up after that.
17:36Just building up Sri Lanka for this last few overs.
17:40I reckon the slog will be on now.
17:45They need to get up past 200 somehow.
17:48Give themselves a good chance.
17:56Can't afford to be short on this pitch.
17:59It might have movement but it's not overly quick.
18:02Short again.
18:10Four again.
18:13A good start to the over.
18:16Anthony not happy.
18:17Brings the 150 for Sri Lanka.
18:20There's still some work to be done from both the teams.
18:22Sri Lanka need runs.
18:24India need to restrict them to below 180.
18:27Very quickly on the back foot.
18:30Big open spaces there.
18:32Yep, it's an area that they've not replaced.
18:36It's the death bowling of Zaheer Khan.
18:39All the other legends of the game they've moved on from.
18:42But just those death overs from Zaheer.
18:44Reverse swinging Yorkers.
18:46Need to find someone.
18:51Maybe Kumar could do it.
18:52Maybe Jadeja bowling at the death.
18:54Firing him in with a low arm.
19:02Direct hit and he's struggling.
19:04Misses and Matthews goes to 50.
19:0750 in 85 deliveries with one four and a six.
19:11He's given his side half a chance here.
19:22A very good innings.
19:23Hasn't been in the best of the forms in this competition with the bat.
19:28But come the semi-final, he's played well.
19:31We don't know whether it's enough.
19:34He has to bat till the end and bat well to get to Sri Lanka to 200.
19:38Ravindra Jadeja was very quick.
19:41If he hit, he could have been gone.
19:42But terrific work by Raina.
19:45A deep mid-wicket.
19:46It's been a very good fielding side by India.
19:48And again, good running from Sri Lanka.
20:00This time Sheikhar Dhawan and it hits the stumps.
20:04It's been Raina everywhere in this innings.
20:08He's taken some outstanding catches in the slips.
20:14There you go.
20:15It's gone a long way up.
20:16Will it get over mid-on?
20:18Yes, it does.
20:21And it plugs.
20:23Virat Kohli judged that horribly wrong.
20:27That is unbelievable that that ball was able to land
20:30between him and the rope and plug like that.
20:34One run scored.
20:36I think he was worried about the boundary line.
20:40I'll have to wait and see.
20:44Did it hit the board?
20:46No, it hasn't.
20:46Just a single.
20:48This one's up in the air.
20:55Should be taken.
20:57Is.
20:57The cool, the calm, Kumar takes the catch, makes up for the mistake from Virat Kohli.
21:04And the Sri Lankan captain's gone.
21:05And the Sri Lankan captain's gone.
21:07Once again, an ordinary shot.
21:10Not enough commitment.
21:12Don't know exactly where he was trying to hit.
21:15Top edge and a good catch.
21:19It's never easy under these skies.
21:21The white ball.
21:21And India get a wicket at the right time.
21:25Angelo Matthews dismissed.
21:27Caron ball, which would go the other way.
21:32Trying to hit over mid-wicket.
21:34Not getting to the pitch.
21:35Bhubaneshwar Kumar mine.
21:37And it takes a good catch.
21:41Skipper dismissed for a whale mid-51.
21:43Will that be enough for Sri Lanka?
21:45158 for five.
21:51He's got hold of that one.
21:52There's a man out there for that.
21:54Taken.
21:56Good work from Dhoni.
21:58He put three men out on the leg side.
22:00Isham wasn't going to change from plan A, which was short to Pereira.
22:04And India are having some momentum throughout this innings.
22:11Good captaincy and good bowling.
22:16Poor batting from Pereira.
22:19Probably backing his strength and power.
22:21I'll clear the field, whatever it is.
22:24Not good enough this time.
22:25And a good catch by Shekhar Dhawan.
22:29Nishant Sharma strikes his third wicket.
22:31Pereira dismissed for a duck.
22:36Sri Lanka 106 for 6.
22:38160 for 6.
22:39I beg your pardon.
22:45Caron ball.
22:46Bowled him around his legs.
22:47With the caron ball.
22:50Shane Warne-esque.
22:54Once again poor batting.
22:56Whether it's the caron ball or not, it was a half-tracker.
23:01He's not convinced Kulisikara, but a quiet word from Mendes.
23:09Yeah, an umpire review for a stumping is what I'm hearing in my ear.
23:14I think really they're checking, did it hit the bails first?
23:18That's what they're checking.
23:20Ashwin is usually pretty good.
23:24Back leg's fine, front leg's fine.
23:26I think he just left one that spun and clipped the outside of the leg's stump.
23:37Yeah, there you go.
23:39That's why they're checking it.
23:40Generally, the tip is when the bails fall backwards, you're bowled, and when they fall forward, someone's done something else.
23:52Finally given out.
23:54Sri Lanka just falling apart here.
23:56164 for 7.
23:57Kulisikara has gone for 1.
23:59Oh, has he got back?
24:15I don't think he has.
24:17He's been given out on the field.
24:20India all over Sri Lanka here.
24:22It's very good bowling.
24:23Just gone better and better, India, with every game.
24:29With the bat, with the ball.
24:32This time Sri Lanka on the receiving end.
24:34They're happy.
24:35The inside's playing well.
24:38Stop.
24:39See the batsman.
24:41Bowler differently.
24:43No change in technique from the batsman.
24:44That's why he's got to go.
24:46Sri Lanka lose the 8th wicket.
24:475 balls remaining.
24:49171 for 8.
24:50Mendes gone for 25.
24:54Malinga's going to swing hard.
24:55He does.
24:57Straight up and over mid-off.
24:59Again, it just stops in the outfield.
25:01But this time it trickles away for 4.
25:05And finally they have a boundary at the death.
25:07Sri Lanka, 181 for 8.
25:09But the Indians and the Indian fans will be very pleased with what they've seen in the first 50 overs.
25:14At the end, Sri Lanka huffed and puffed their way to just 181 for 8 at the end of their 50 overs.
25:28It was the captain, Angelo Matthews, who held the innings together with 51 of 89 balls.
25:33Jawadene played well for his 38.
25:35And Jeevan Mendes gave his captain support with 25.
25:38But there were no other contributions to talk about.
25:44On the other hand, for India, plenty to talk about in the bowling department.
25:49Ishaan Sharma, the pick of the bowlers.
25:503 for 33 from his 9 overs.
25:52Ravi Chandran Ashwin jipped in with 3 for 48.
25:55A wicket apiece to Bhuvaneshwar Kumar.
25:571 for 18 excellent figures.
25:59As for Ravindra Jadeja, 10 overs.
26:011 for 33.
26:02India's target to make it to another big tournament final, 182.
26:26Two slips in place, so Sri Lanka on the attack, as you'd expect.
26:32I think you're right, Russell.
26:37I think Sri Lanka need to take early wickets.
26:39They need to expose the Indian middle order.
26:41They haven't had a lot of time out in the middle because they've batted so well up front.
26:45And also in such conditions.
26:48The pitches that we've had throughout the tournament so far have been good.
26:51This is the first time that India have come up against real English conditions, I would think.
26:57If these two are in, they'll score runs very fast as well.
27:05There's that angled ball into the right-hander.
27:08There's a couple of slips in place for the outside edge.
27:12There's also a third man and fine leg.
27:14Only two fielders allowed out of the circle in the first 10 overs.
27:18And they're there for his variation.
27:23You did mention that Kulasekhar likes to bring the ball back into the right-hander.
27:28His variation is the one that straightens down the line.
27:30Fuller game, but driven through the gap.
27:44Rohit Sharma finding the middle of the bat in the very first over.
27:47Positive stride in.
27:58That's what allowed Rohit Sharma to just lean into that shot.
28:03Yes, that's the length Kulasekhar should look for.
28:06But look at that.
28:08Beautifully played.
28:09Got close to the ball.
28:10Oh, there's that one that just straightens up that line.
28:20So beautifully bowled.
28:21Good comeback.
28:23Yeah, it's easy.
28:24It's easy to change your length.
28:27But Kulasekhar, being brave, he knows
28:30what length might give him the most chance of knocking Rohit Sharma over
28:34or even picking up that outside edge.
28:37Sri Lanka will have to stay patient, though.
28:38And if they start leaking runs, they have to believe in their plan.
28:47Oh, another beautiful ball to finish the over.
28:52First one gone, it's four without loss.
29:00And he's away in usual fashion, timing the ball through the offside.
29:04And that'll run away for yet another boundary for the Indians.
29:09Darwin's off the mark.
29:13Well, Malinga knows it.
29:16Malinga knows that's just a good shot.
29:18He just changed the angle of the back.
29:25Doesn't get a big stride in so that he can just swing his arms through.
29:29Look at him opening the face of the back to pick his gap.
29:32It's just wide a slip that could well beat third man.
29:41Ranganaharath down there.
29:43Not able to stop that.
29:46So frustration for Kulasekhar and the Sri Lankans.
29:49Just got him pushing at that.
29:58Found the edge not carrying.
30:00Mileage Iwadana had no chance at all.
30:05That's the shorter boundary.
30:06In the air, but in the gap.
30:13That's four.
30:14Beautiful shot through the covers by Shikidoan.
30:23There's nothing Malinga can do about that.
30:27That's just a quality stroke from a quality player.
30:34He picked up the angle early.
30:37Again, well balanced.
30:38Good stride in.
30:40Once you get a good stride and that good base,
30:43you can hit that ball as hard as you want.
30:51Up.
30:51Is it over?
30:53It is.
30:54Six to Shikilohan.
30:56Down to third man.
30:57Just beating Kulasekhar.
30:58Six gone.
31:06It's 28 without loss.
31:08Brilliant shot.
31:16Just using the pace.
31:18The flick of the wrist also gives a little bit more momentum behind that one.
31:22But unfortunately for Kulasekhar.
31:25It's in that odd spot of the boundary.
31:31He just squares up a bit.
31:32And Davaan gets enough to get it over him.
31:36Oh, he's dropped it.
31:48The move worked.
31:49And a simple catch dropped.
31:51The difference between maybe the slip fielders of India and Sri Lanka.
31:5438 for no wicket.
31:55Yes, this time you see he's pushed at it.
32:02He's pushed hard at it.
32:04And that's why the ball went to that fielder at slip.
32:07The question is whether the wicket keeper unsighted that fielder at slip for just that
32:12nanosecond that can make the difference.
32:14But it is the captain, Angelo Matthews, who's grasped that catch.
32:19And Kumar Sangakara says, ah, now what do we do?
32:25Tisara Pereira.
32:31It's one of his great strengths.
32:34Seen one cover drive before this one.
32:37It was terrific.
32:38This one as well.
32:39Very good.
32:41And there was a fielder there at deep cover.
32:43And that's a long boundary.
32:45The side boundaries here at the Cardiff Wales Stadium are pretty long.
32:50But that fielder had no chance whatsoever.
32:53This was brutally hit.
32:55Off the middle of the bat.
32:59There's sheer power in that shot.
33:07Yeah, a bit of luck.
33:08That's what you need.
33:10Sometimes.
33:13A bit of luck to get into form.
33:1750 runs partnership between these two guys.
33:20Sometimes the luck can go with you when you're, it's your year, your season.
33:29Things go well.
33:31You get a drop catch.
33:32You get inside edges that go over the stumps or besides the stumps.
33:37This one has gone over the top of the leg stump.
33:39So, Shikhar Dhawan is riding his luck.
33:48Good looking shot.
33:50A few runs on the offside.
33:51Just short a side.
33:53Today.
33:53And that is a good boundary for Roy Sharma.
33:56Loves playing that shot.
34:04The short ampoule of Roy Sharma.
34:06He's just almost waiting every ball to play this shot.
34:0913 overs gone.
34:10It's 61 for the wicket.
34:11And that could, that could be the half century.
34:22Certainly is, certainly is.
34:23Well played, Shikhar Dhawan.
34:24The bat raised to his teammates is now becoming, um, becoming a habit.
34:33Yeah, as cool as you like, as easy as you like.
34:35The run machine continues.
34:39What a find he has been for India.
34:41It's 110 for one.
34:54What a shot.
34:59Threw at Coley.
35:00Down the pitch.
35:00One bounce over cover.
35:02Super shot.
35:05Well, the wicket keeper standing back.
35:06He stands up when the left-handed.
35:08Dhawan is at the crease.
35:09But this is a terrific shot from a young man who's brimming with talent.
35:16He went down the pitch straight.
35:18Didn't go towards the ball because he wanted a little bit of room
35:21to be able to play this lofted shot over extra cover.
35:24One bounce over the boundary.
35:28Tremendous shot this.
35:31So not prepared to be cowed down for too long, Gerard Coley.
35:401.22 for one.
35:49Oh, good shot.
35:50Have some of that.
35:52Looked like the wrong one for Mendez.
35:55Gerard Coley picked it early and dispatched it over mid-wicket.
35:59Indian fans, why wouldn't you be happy?
36:00They're about to play in a Champions Trophy final.
36:03The team are playing well.
36:04Look at that.
36:05Clap.
36:07Well done.
36:08Super shot.
36:09133 for one.
36:10133 for one.
36:17It wasn't quite the wrong one, but he saw that there was a gap there.
36:22And the ball was a little too full.
36:24So there wasn't much opportunity for the ball to turn.
36:26So he's hit it over the awakened deep mid-wicket area for a boundary.
36:33Maybe getting just a little impatient.
36:35Want to finish it off early.
36:37A couple of shots we've seen from Gerard Coley.
36:39Inside out in the previous over and then this shot.
36:45Oh, Shikha Darwin in the air.
36:47And oh, got a hand on it.
36:49He hit it hard to point.
36:50And now an overthrow.
36:53Gloves fallen off by Shikha Darwin.
36:57Company of errors.
36:58It was hit in the air.
36:59He hit it hard, though.
37:04Summer Nyka, the sub that was for Dilshan.
37:07He's lost his shoe, not his glove.
37:10Well, that went like a rocket.
37:13It popped up in the air.
37:16Very unlucky for Kulasekra again.
37:18And he had Shikha Darwin dropped by the skipper, Angelo Matthews,
37:21early on in Darwin's innings.
37:23And now Sena Naike, who's a terrific fielder.
37:28Missing out on that.
37:35Might be out.
37:36Sankakara's pretty confident here that Shikha Darwin might have just moved.
37:40His back foot might have just slid out.
37:43It was good work from Sankakara.
37:45Don't think Shikha Darwin picked the wrong.
37:46And Alimdar's referred it to the third umpire.
37:51Sankakara's pretty confident.
37:53Yes, he walked casually away, having stumped the batsman,
37:57having taken the bails off.
37:58That's the decision now that is going to be left to the TV umpire.
38:02It's not a no ball.
38:04You can see quite clearly it's a wrong one.
38:06I don't think Shikha Darwin picked it.
38:09He's bowled well, Jeevan Mendez, in those two overs that he's bowled.
38:11You know, he's stretched forward.
38:14He's brought him forward.
38:15Oh, yes, he's out.
38:16Oh, yes, he's out.
38:18He's dragged the foot back in later, but he's out.
38:21That's why Sankakara was so confident.
38:24Oh, yes.
38:25Shikha Darwin's innings has ended.
38:27He's out of his crease.
38:30And this is a terrific delivery by Jeevan Mendez.
38:34Yeah, well bowled and good work from Sankakara too.
38:38That's out.
38:40The Shikha Darwin show is over.
38:42He's played well, though.
38:43He's done the brunt of the work for India.
38:45He's got him into a position where really she's going to win this easy
38:48and romp it in.
38:49Still fighting, though, Sri Lanka.
38:51Shikha Darwin disappointed to be gone for 68, but it was well bowled.
38:56The player's going to take a drink.
38:58It's 1.42 for two.
39:06Not a good start for Malinga.
39:08He won't like that against someone who plays him well.
39:11Cut shot for four.
39:12Just beat point.
39:14And it raced away off this slow outfield too.
39:16Yes, you're absolutely right.
39:19He does play Malinga better than anybody else that has been seen in recent times.
39:25Whether he's bowling on the offside or on the onside,
39:28whether the Yorkers are there or not.
39:31He really has batted well against Malinga.
39:41Short one.
39:43Dispatched.
39:43Dispatched to the boundary for four more.
39:48Well, it was almost as if he was waiting for it.
39:50It was almost as if he read Lasset Malinga's mind.
39:53Remember, in his previous spell, Lasset Malinga had been banging the ball in short
39:57pretty much every delivery, whether it was to the left-handed Chikhar Dhawan
40:01or to Virat Kohli.
40:02Now, Malinga has begun the first over, first few deliveries.
40:06They were pitched up a couple of Yorkers, a slower Yorker, a quicker Yorker.
40:09It was almost as if Virat Kohli was saying,
40:12aha, I know, now you're going to ball the short ball.
40:14He was ready for it.
40:15Wow.
40:20And then a little bit of power to come, too.
40:22You have some twos, but have some of that, too.
40:26I can dong you down the ground and bring up your 52.
40:29That's a big six.
40:30Good use of the feet.
40:31Well played, Virat Kohli.
40:32Excellent use of the feet.
40:35Excellent young player.
40:37Indian crowd going off, too, and why not?
40:41What a shot to bring up your half century.
40:44His highest score in the game was 31, but in the tournament.
40:48So he's tuning up quite nicely for the finals, Virat Kohli.
41:05Five now needed for India.
41:06They've got three deliveries in this over.
41:09So they can finish it in this over itself.
41:11And that'll be a very impressive win.
41:14Very impressive win.
41:15Eight wickets in hand, 15 overs to go.
41:17Well, we're in Mumbai, sunny, or in Cardiff.
41:25More like Delhi, I think.
41:26Delhi in the winter where spectators do wear jumpers.
41:36Well, Malinga's been brought back a few overs ago to take wickets.
41:40He hasn't brought a ball to Rainey yet.
41:42Virat Kohli's been on strike and scored off him lots.
41:46Delhi, you think, not Mumbai?
41:48No, I don't think you'd ever see a Mumbai crowd with jumpers and wind cheaters.
41:53But certainly in Delhi.
41:53Delhi in the winter can be pretty cold.
41:57But there's other spells that he's pulled.
41:59In the first spell also, he was a bit expensive.
42:02Going at more than five runs and over.
42:04The second spell was a lot better.
42:06But this one's been very expensive.
42:11Well, that's Sangakara.
42:13Good take as an appeal.
42:16Whether Rain actually hit the ball into the ground or it flicked these pads.
42:20Sangakara's a bit amused.
42:22It was a good take.
42:23The Yorker attempted.
42:29I think it might have gone off the pads.
42:32We'll have...
42:33Oh, no.
42:33It's gone off the bat.
42:35But it might have...
42:36It's also landed after that.
42:38Near the boot, you can see.
42:39Oh, that'll be four.
42:52Is that it?
42:53That's the winning runs for India.
42:55Well done.
42:56Well done.
42:57India are through to a Champions Trophy final.
43:00They deserve to be there.
43:01They've been the best side in this competition.
43:02They've beaten Sri Lanka by eight wickets today.
43:05They've done it in style too.
43:06Lots to celebrate for the crowd.
43:08Lots to celebrate for the team.
43:10Sri Lanka tried hard.
43:12They just didn't get enough runs.
43:14And India...
43:15They're on the way to Birmingham for a final, Sonny.
43:18Yes, and they have been very impressive.
43:20Look at the margin of their wins.
43:23In all the four games that they've played so far,
43:25it's been by huge margins.
43:27They have not been put under any pressure whatsoever in all the matches.
43:32It was a good move to send Suresh Rainer
43:34because he batted against South Africa in the first game.
43:38Didn't get a bat in the next two games.
43:41So give him some time out in the middle.
43:42He's just batted for four deliveries.
43:45Unbeaten on seven.
43:47But still giving him just that little bit of hit in the middle.
43:51Nothing like it.
43:52The high fives all around in the Indian dressing room.
43:57And these two young flares walking off the field.
44:01This is a tremendous performance by the Indians.
44:04It's a magnificent performance.
44:12The Sri Lankans tried hard,
44:13but they just didn't have enough runs on the board.
44:16The Indians bowled really well in the beginning.
44:19And restricting the Sri Lankans to 182.
44:21And then the Indian batting tower,
44:25India's batting might, took over.
44:27It was a 77-run opening partnership
44:33between Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan
44:35that laid the foundation
44:36for a convincing Indian victory at the end
44:38by eight wickets
44:40with as many as 15 overs to spare.
44:44Shikhar Dhawan, 68 of 92 deliveries
44:46and Virat Kohli finding form at just the right time,
44:4958 of 64 balls.
44:51He loves playing against Sri Lanka.
44:52Only Angelo Matthews showed some form with the ball.
44:58Four overs, one for 10.
45:00One wicket also to Jeevan Mendes.
45:02But there was nothing really
45:03for the Sri Lankan bowlers to show for their efforts.
45:06The final equation at the end.
45:08Sri Lanka put into bat by Mahendra Singh Dhoni
45:10on a cloudy overcast day.
45:13181 for 8.
45:14It was never going to be enough.
45:15And India proved that in the end.
45:17182 for 2 in just 35 overs.
45:20Winning by eight wickets
45:21and marching into the final
45:23of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.
45:28Well, we move from Wales for the final time
45:30to Edgbaston in Birmingham
45:32for what should be
45:33an absolutely fantastic occasion.
45:37The home team England
45:38taking on the defending world champions India
45:40in what should feel like an away game
45:43for England
45:43given the kind of support
45:45India are likely to get in Birmingham.
45:48We'll bring you highlights
45:49of that grand finale on Sunday.
45:51But for now,
45:52from Cardiff,
45:53for the final time,
45:54it's goodbye.
45:55Bye.
