00:00I am on the Viking Jupiter cruising up the coast of Norway and oh my goodness, look at this scenery behind me.
00:07We are in the Arctic now, we have crossed the Arctic Circle, we are going from Tromstow to Honningsbad
00:13and tomorrow we will go to North Cape, which is the northernmost point on the European mainland.
00:20This is amazing!
00:22We board the ship at Bergen, a delightful historic city where the fish market takes pride of place along the shoreline.
00:30Stallholders selling king crabs, scallops and mussels, plus reindeer and moose burgers if you're game.
00:37Our cruise ship heads north through majestic fjords and breathtaking ice-capped mountains,
00:42making a number of stops including at the beautiful Lofferton Islands where we get an insider's look into the stockfish trade
00:49and what it takes to judge a good dried fish.
00:52As days become longer, we cross over into the Arctic Circle and into the land of the midnight sun
00:58where, for weeks during summer, the sun simply does not set.
01:03Can you imagine? Full sun at midnight? It's quite a sight.
01:08The Viking Jupiter is in home territory up here and we feast on Norwegian and Scandinavian delights
01:14like salmon gravlax, lamb stew and an amazing array of desserts, which for me are the highlight,
01:22including orange crumb cake and a show-stopping princess cake with bright green almond-flavoured icing.
01:28The pinnacle of our journey is reaching the very tip of the European mainland, at North Cape.
01:35This is reindeer country.
01:37At the northernmost point, we stand on a clifftop and look out into the Barents Sea,
01:43imagining what it would have been like for early explorers to reach this point.
