00:00Today we are gearing up for another journey to visit Samuel,
00:04to check on how he is doing and bring him some much needed food supplies.
00:09Samuel lives about 30 km away from the nearest village.
00:12To get there we have to cross a river and the roads this time of year are pretty rough.
00:18So we have to prepare well just in case our vehicle freezes
00:22and we are stuck out in the heart of the vast taiga forest with no way to call for help.
00:27You might be wondering why would anyone choose to live in such a harsh place?
00:33Well, I agree living in one of the most challenging environments on earth is not easy
00:37and every day is a battle against a relentless cold.
00:41But there is something truly special in this place.
00:45The pristine beauty and serenity of this mighty land becomes a part of who you are.
00:51It's a bond that can never be broken.
00:57While we continue our journey, Samuel's days has already started.
01:20He began his day by reading newspapers and listening to the radio,
01:25his only connection to the outside world in his isolated home.
01:31Even though Samuel has been living alone for two decades, far from civilization,
01:35he is still very keen on the nearest village news.
01:38He carefully reads each article, often more than once.
01:42These newspapers keep him entertained and serve as pressured treasures he brought with him from the village.
01:48Samuel not only reads the newspapers, but he also uses them to decorate his house.
01:56Despite the challenges of living in such a remote place without the conveniences of city life,
02:01he strives to make his home cozy and tidy.
02:04The life in the coldest place on earth is difficult, but living alone in the Siberian wilderness is beyond extreme.
02:17Samuel faces daily challenges head-on.
02:20Even the simplest task can turn into a difficult fit.
02:25Every day he must figure out how to get his food.
02:29Unfortunately, Samuel lacks the hunting skills.
02:33Sometimes he sets traps to catch hares, but success is rare, happening maybe once a month.
02:38During the summer, Samuel spends his time fishing in the nearby lake.
02:44However, as the weather gets colder, securing food becomes a much more difficult challenge.
02:51Today he decided to take a chance and ventures to a nearby lake, hoping to catch some fish.
02:56He is an old man to the ground.
03:11He is a great man to visit a few years ago, though.
03:18He is an old man to the ground.
03:20He is a great man to visit a few years ago.
03:22This one is an extra step in place.
03:26Let's go, let's get.
03:28A little bit up.
03:41Let's get to the third one.
03:44A little bit less.
03:48There's one more.
03:51Sadly, today, the
04:21fish don't seem to be biting.
04:23When there is no food, Samuel embarks on a long journey, often lasting five to seven
04:29hours to reach the nearby village.
04:32The locals often lend a helping hand with food.
04:35He shares stories of his life in the wilderness, and in return, they provide him with food and
04:40essentials.
04:41There are people who are still living with food.
04:56They're still living with food, when they are living with food.
04:58They're from the soil, they're a good food.
05:02We put in the water that we put on,
05:05we put up the water, and the water.
05:08We will feed the water and we will feed the water.
05:14Yes, the water is good.
05:16today with a stock of meat from his recent visit to the village samuels is planning to cook a
05:35simple yet hearty meal a soup made from horse meat he stores his food in his self-made underground
05:42freezer which relies on the permafrost and naturally a curing frozen layer of soil that never melt even
05:49during summer
06:01samuel cooks his food outdoors especially when it's not too cold as he doesn't have a cooking
06:06stove at home he prefers food that's been prepared outdoors food cooked outside in the fresh air always
06:13tastes better however when temperature dropped to minus 50 degrees celsius samuel has no choice
06:24but to cook inside on top of his heating stove
06:29samuel typically has just one meal a day which he generously shares with his only friends
06:35he stocks a steaming bowl of soup is the ideal food to keep him warm and nourished throughout the
06:41harsh siberian winter
06:44it's the ideal food to get drinking water and keep clean samuel melts the snow that accumulates on
07:05his roof which melts and flows into a burial but if he has a choice he prefers to drink the melted ice from
07:12the lake that is only available in the winter to wash and keep clean he carefully warms water in his
07:20trusty stove patiently waiting until it reaches the perfect temperature
07:29with resourcefulness born from necessity samuel has fashioned an outdoor shower using gasoline containers
07:37while he may not have a traditional bath house samuel's creativity knows no bounds
07:44he's already planning to build one next summer
07:47uh
